Does red hair affect the bleaching or darkening process?

    • @AttractiveButBitter
      @AttractiveButBitter 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

I was a redhead, I went blonde this past year. Some tips from me to you, as our hair naturally wants to be brassy as hickety heckk
      - use 20v developer because, in my experience, my red head needed a lot of bleaching.
      - dont get scared and rinse out the first two bleaches before theyre done processing, i did this and made myself need to bleach more times than would have been necessary
      - dye the lengths and lower layerof your hair one full process and do an all over bleach after your rinsed and dried that out and chilled for a day or two if you can (if by some miracle your hair just LIGHTENS like mine refused, just do your roots and touch ups on particularly brassy strands)
I thought inneeded to focus on the top of my hair to be the lightest and ended up with a really crispy bang situation lmao
      - do not tone your hair until it is at least evenly lightened, if you get scared of hair damage and dont want to lighten again
      - some cheaper drugstore purple toners and dyes turn lightened orange hair pinkish when they washout even if they say its blue/indigo based (lmao hence my avatar) so i would tone with icy blue stuff, it fixed my hair its white now
Im not a professional I just lightened my natural red hair at home and this was my learning curve

So glad you did this! I’ve been playing around with silver tones for most of the pandemic, and I’m trying to grow out my old-lady white hair in a fun, funky way. I’ve been concocting with Arctic Fox all summer and into the fall. Below is a run-down of how it worked out for me. Your results will probably vary. Don’t yell if it backfires. (This is a long read, but not as long as if you did all these trials yourself!).
FYI: Pre-pandemic, my hairdresser was covering my grey with a mushroom/tobacco/taupe brown with ashy blonde highlights. (My natural hair is about a level 6 ash brown, and I’m currently more than 50% white in the front and crown). So now, the top 3 to 4 inches or so of my hair hasn’t been bleached or otherwise permanent dyed since May, the bottom part is more porous and undertones from the hairdresser’s work.
    Attempt #1:
I found that diluting a pea-sized amount of Transylvania with several generous pumps of conditioner (much like Tessar did in her video), left to sit for 45 min-1 hour left me with a pretty “faded denim” blue (I think this is actually a “recipe” on the AF website)-sort of between the two Lunar Tides shade in this video. I liked it when it was pretty fresh, but after a few shampoos, my highlighted areas faded greenish. (Which could be somebody’s look, but it wasn’t doing me any favors.) Also, it wasn’t enough product to fully saturate, so it was a little splotchy.
    Round #2)
So, knowing that red/pink should counteract green, I knew that adding some purple or pink would help. And I knew I needed at least twice as much total. So the next time I went in with about a 1 inch “ribbon” of AF Transylvania and about a 1 inch ribbon of AF Purple Rain, diluted with maybe 1/3 to 1/2 cup of conditioner. I tested it on white paper as I diluted and stopped when it was a medium tint. This was definitely a purple/blue/grey, and I liked it very much. It took longer for green to reappear, and I really liked how it looked on my whites which were starting to grow out...a light periwinkle.
    Rounds #3 & #4)
Now, while this was good fun during a summer of isolation, I had to go back to work (I teach) in the fall. So, I wanted to see if I could concoct something more neutral silver/grey. I used to do a lot of tie-dying, so I knew you could get a good neutral black base with about 4 parts dark navy blue (which is sort of Transylvania) plus 1 to 2 parts red-orange, which you can mix up with magenta plus yellow....for this batch I used 1 part Virgin Pink plus 1 part Cosmic Sunshine. (You could also probably use either their orange or maybe their orangey-red. I haven’t tried these, and probably won’t! We’re in the middle of a pandemic, people. Use what you’ve got!)
Initially, this 4 parts Transylvania: 1 part Virgin pink: 1 part Cosmic Sunshine: a crap ton of conditioner looked AMAZING. A lot like the darker Iroiro in this video. But after only one or two shampoos, my lighter areas were looking dindgy-a weird yellow cast. Also, my new growth was getting more noticeable, so the next time I tried to do sort of an ombré with two different dilutions of this blend (because I still had a bunch of the crap ton leftover). Again, nice after the first wash or two, crappy after that. Rats.
So the next logical step would be to either reduce the yellow or add some purple. But my boss said he liked my blue-purple hair, and my boss’s boss didn’t seem to care much otherwise. So for the past few months, I’m just goofing around with different mixtures of blue and purple colors. I look a little like Queen Frostine from Candy Land! Which I think is perfect for winter.
And that is the whole story. Hope it helps someone and Good luck!

I tried Maria Nila in Black and diluted it to get a grey which was really nice at first. But as it was washing out, it left a grey tinge on my hair which was just a nightmare to get out. I guess it was because I had too many yellow undertones. I had the Crazy Colour Black (not the neutral black) to mix with other dyes I have to darken them. But turns out it is veeeery blue based so would definitely not recommend using it for mixing with conditioner for grey hair. Now I've gone back to grey and after looking at a lot of TH-cam videos, I came across a UK brand called "Makki Professional". Their grey coloruing hair mask in absolutely amazing. Has more of a purple-ish undertone and you really won't need a lot if you are mixing it with conditioner. Last super long for me (given that I only wash my hair once a week) and fades really nicely. Have barely heard anyone talk about this product but definitely would recommned. I had tried the two of the silver dyes from Crazy Colour (can't remember which ones though) on my mum but it barely did anything even though the hair was quite lightened. Otherwise I absolutely adore Crazy Colour, tried a bunch of their red shades over the last few years and it is by far my favourite. Had tried La Riche Directions once and was quite disappointed how so not long lasting they were. Crazy Colour is just much more affordbale and you get more product for your money.
Edit: I had watched the video that you had linked in the description and that's how I ended up finding out about Makki.

Love This, So many people think it's so easy to go silver, to me it's 1 of the hardest colors to get perfect True Silver!!
But I used the iroiro i can't remember which one, there were 2 different colors ,and now they completely changed the Colors, anyway it was the perfect silver..
    Thanks for this Video 😊😁🦳
    I think it was Platnum🤔

I have had great luck with iroiro until recently. I usually have great luck with platinum. This last time it turned "dirty blue", such a bummer. I don't know if they changed the formula or I left it in just a touch too long.
Double washing with a clarifying shampoo then purple shampoo, followed by a heavy conditioner has helped, without doing anything drastic or damaging. It has taken a 4 showers though. I'm lucky my job doesn't care about my hair.

Love this video ❤ i really wanna try iroiro grey and silver now.
I am so excited for you to use iroiro. it is my favorite brand that i have used. even though they have less shades than some of the others but they are easy to mix together or dilute (which i find harder with some other brands) and they don't bleed on to my towels or clothes after the first shampoo (which arctic fox does a lot for me) .

I’m a level 10 with toned hair and used overtone’s pastel silver. It’s super gorgeous. Is kind of dark at first but lightens up to a beautiful silver. In some spots my hair is less toned and in those bits my hair turned a tiny bit green.

Personally, when I tried to go silver, I used manic panic's blue steel and was incredibly happy with it.
I also toned my hair to white before dying it.
They have a couple of other grey shades that I'd love to see how they compare.

I'm glad you did this video! I just got my hair done as ash brown (but it's more of a light silver and I'm loving it). I got Overtone vibrant silver to try when it's time to touch up my color in a few weeks. However, after seeing this, the iroiro silver might be worth a try if Overtone doesn't work out for me.

Youre going to love the iroiro colors for your rainbow hair. They're so bright and I just love iro iro. Lasts longer too. Could you try Joico Titanium? I was going to back in Feb or March, but changed my mind. Also, do you have a vid about your tattoos?
