Brilliant video Tom. I attempted it a few years ago and took a very slow scenic route and did 800 miles in 10 days before my bloody frame snapped. I am now inspired to start planning my next attempt. Great that I have found your inspirational channel.
I did this in the same year when I was 57 ,The first 3 days were by far the hardest ,I felt proud that I never got off the bike once .I've learnt since getting severe cramp & ripping a vien & muscle ,nervous be to proud to get off & push .
Similar age. Recently suffered from Delayed Onset Muscle Syndrome (DOMS) after pushing harder on a hilly route I do daily. Felt fine then about 8 hours after finished - AGONY in my thigh, it lasted 1-2 week. Essentially what happened was that due to lots of little tears in the muscle, the damaged cells got inflamed resulting in about a week of agony , still not fully recovered 6-8 months later due to stiffness in the knee and tightness of tendons caused by being incpacitated. If this had happened on a multi day ride, would have been in big trouble as could not walk due to the pain of moving my thigh, the pain was also excruciating if tried to sit.
Top quality video, really showed our beautiful rugged country. Also, like others here no doubt, inspiring us to all have a go. Good luck in the future.
Well done Tom. I remember the time I did LEJOG in 2020 and remember it fondly. The only difference being my journey was mostly on road although I did include both the Camel and Tarka early on in the route to break up those relentless Cornwall and Devon climbs.
Wow! What a wonderful film! I truly enjoy all of your films but this one was incredible--but not just the film itself. It is fabulous that you did the LEJOG, especially by yourself! Thank you so much for sharing and for being so very human with your trials and tribulations as well as your triumphs.
Well done - an enjoyable and interesting video of an exciting ride. (a) there is a wide variety of country and people between LE and JOG, and (b) the scenery you showed brought back memories Many thanks
Another great video here Tom and what amazes me is that you still find the time, no matter how knackered you are, to do some fantastic drone work! Great to watch.
Excellent film Tom, really good balance of superb cinematic drone footage, on bike camera, piece to camera and voice over - a really, really good watch. Well done on the ride, that is a huge achievement and brilliantly documented.
Top effort. I am doing the ride in august for Bowel cancer research. Do you have the route you can share with me, please? Would love to follow your route as different from the common ones. Thanks, Dave
Hello mate, loved this video ! I’m looking to do LEJOG early next year and would love to film the journey like you so I can look back on some good memories. Can I ask what drone and camera equipment you used ? Quality is excellent !
I did it in 1982 for MS , 50% of money to UK and Australia 🇦🇺, making ride longer thru Lake District and Highlands; very fond memories for life; pub owner trying to seduce 😂, farm stay Scotland peat fire 🔥, 3 BRAVEHEART giants in Perth pub, watching MAD MAX and explaining to Scots about OZ film 🎥, invited to hunt deer SPEAN 🦌 BRIDGE and so much more cheers to all cyclists globally ❤😊
Mate, I love the quality of your films - I'm watching a few back to back having started with your NC500 because that's next on my own bucket list. I'd love to have the time and kit to make similar films because it seems such a shame to end up with a few iPhone photos and video clips from big adventures. I did a JOGLE in 2022 and was chuffed to finish it in 8-days, so I've sometimes wondered if I'd have time to do justice to decent videography, but that's why I've really enjoyed your films. Please keep them coming! Is your Facebook page down or closed at the moment? - struggled to find it, but I've followed on instagram.
Thank you so much! It’s always worth testing out some filming, but it’s very very time consuming so not for everyone haha. The Facebook page has been deactivated for the time being. I can probably turn it back on but managing TH-cam, Instagram, my website and a mailing list is enough 😂
Couple of questions: what width tyres did you use and what was your lowest gear ratio for climbing? And also would you change either if you were doing it again? Thanks
No worries, I think they were Schwalbe Marathons 38s and my lowest gear was a 36/32. I’d maybe get lower gearing as I packed heavy and struggled a bit up the beasty climbs I’d planned, but the tyres were fine! The gears were mostly fine as well tbh
Great video Tom. I saw your original LEJOG video but this was a really good breakdown and I plan on doing this next year (have been meaning to do it for a while but with family and finances it's had to go on the back burner for a bit). Your route looked fantastic and the A82 looks amazing but it just worries me a bit due to the width of the road and it being very busy with HGV and campers. Is a jogle something you've ever fancied?
Thank you! Good luck with it when you get round to it. Yeah the A82 isn’t the best nowadays, I think I caught the tail end of the covid lull but it’s not the best road for sure. There are alternatives but they do add the mileage!
What a fantastic effort. Can I ask how much was the route on road vs. off road. Would love to do this but currently only ride a road bike, so I assume this route would be more for a gravel bike.
Very good. Well done on completing LEJOG. I was in Ilfracombe earlier this year and can confirm it is very hilly. Any day you can avoid an electric fence is a good day. Would it be easier not to wear cleats and use clipped-in pedals since when wild camping you need to jump over hedges and so on?
Scotland awaits after the lakes. Land of Milk & Honey. So long as you understand by milk, I mean Methodone. And by Honey? It’s Irn Bru my man. That golden nectar. Can you repeat after me “diabetes” ❤🏴
Winston Churchill did it i believe in a Rolls Royce 😂 😅 my dad found a national club you could join for anyone whos done it in any way "CLAY BOOT CLUB?" , I had to get a local post office stamp daily as proof, cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 👍 😊
Now that you have done it, how about next, doing it by camping the whole way carrying all the food you need with you? Not sure why you don't like camping in the wet, love it.
Perhaps. The reason I didn’t want to camp in the wet was because I only had a bivvy bag and a crap Aldi special sleeping bag, so not quite as prepared as I am these days

Thanks very much Jason :)

Cheers! Ahh bet that was a huge disappointment! Definitely give it another go
Great video Tom and well done! makes me want to make the same journey.
Thanks John! Go for it! Routes in description 🙏
What a great video, an absolute classic.
Really glad you enjoyed it :)
Top man. Genuinely inspiring stuff. Thank you.
Thank you! :)
Awesome achievement, well done.
Thanks Tim!
Well impressed you did the struggle with full bag setup, nightmare of a hill
Cheers! Definitely grinded my way up that.

Nice one! Yeah definitely no point pushing yourself too hard. I didn’t have the right gearing for those first few days annoyingly but hey ho
Brings back the memories for me dude. Great effort and interesting route!!!
Cheers!

Thank you! Yeah they’re a nice welcome relief for sure
That’s the best video you have ever done Tom. Massive mileage and top quality photography thanks for sharing it with us.
Cheers! Appreciate the nice comment :)
Well done Tom, putting some big days in with all that kit, good stuff🤙
Cheers!
Inspirational - thanks for sharing
Thanks! It’s a fond memory of mine now!
Hello from Austria and congratulations!!! Thanks for the beautiful video 😍 Good luck and many more rides 🤗
Hallo! Thanks for watching :)

Well done, great video 👍
Thanks Sean!
Great work, Tom. Nicely edited, good (and honest) story-telling, the highs and the lows. Your commentary is what makes your videos compelling.
Cheers Gordon! Appreciate it :)

Cheers Phil! It’s a beautiful island if you get out of the busy cities :)
Well done mate great effort and nicely filmed 👍🏻🚴
Cheers!
Another interesting video 😊 I like that you chose your own route rather than just follow the herd. And great story telling.
Cheers David! Yeah I always like to plan my own routes where I can!
Another great video here Tom and what amazes me is that you still find the time, no matter how knackered you are, to do some fantastic drone work! Great to watch.
Thanks very much! It’s nice to have a break to fly the drone sometimes haha
Excellent film Tom, really good balance of superb cinematic drone footage, on bike camera, piece to camera and voice over - a really, really good watch. Well done on the ride, that is a huge achievement and brilliantly documented.
Thanks very much! Thought I’d shake it up a bit :)
Huge congratulations - and great editing! You have inspired me to attempt this and raise money along the way :)
Thank you! Let me know how you get on :)
What an amazing story, and an incredible journey.
Thanks mate! Thanks for watching
Great video pal, really enjoyed this!
Thank you
Very good video overall. Well edited, your story was well told and great drone shots. I enjoyed it and gave you a like 🚴👍
Thanks!
Took me far too long to learn these lessons and now regret a lot of missed opportunities.
There’s always time to do something! All the best 🙏
Top effort. I am doing the ride in august for Bowel cancer research. Do you have the route you can share with me, please? Would love to follow your route as different from the common ones. Thanks, Dave

Thank you! For this film I used my Sony A7iii and DJI Mavic Air 2 👍
Well done. Get the kid(s) in chilldseats asap....and then trailer bikes & tandems. The adventures (albeit on a smaller scale) can continue...
Funny you should say that 😛 that’s what I’ve been doing this weekend

Sounds amazing!
Most people are nice. Wherever you go in the world.
Yeah definitely
Crickey, you looks so young. I assume you did this in your school holidays?😂 Great video (again), good to see genuine LeJog footage. Nice one!
It was only three years ago but I suppose I didn’t have any children then… 😂 thanks

@@Cycling366Crikey, that’s a pretty high lowest gear considering you had the bike loaded. Thanks for the info. Great vid.

The route files are in the video description, I’d say 70% road and the rest cycle paths, off road and canal towpaths etc
Thanks for the kind words too 🙏
Probably ok if you bring along a tarp for outside space
I’m assuming you’re referring to the bivvy set up?
@@Cycling366 I believe I commented this on the wrong video and meant to comment on your review of the tarpstar tent 😂😂
