    You really need to plan cycling in the Highlands in order to avoid the midge season.

      Well we certainly knew he was vegan. Just think if we were all vegan, there would be no sheep on the hills, no cows in the the meadows, no hens in the yard. Can't wait.

    Hi Ed, I had a go at JOGLE end of July weather was atrocious cold, wet and windy, stayed at Crask Inn second night camped out in garden and got attacked by midges, it rained non stop down to Inverness. I started getting a cold and by time I got to Edinburgh my chest wasn't having it, so decided to get train home. I'm going back next year to continue, going to go lighter i.e. not take cooking stuff and binoculars.

      Mate that is some rough luck! Good on you for recognising you needed to call it, I bet that was a hard conversation to have with yourself Definitely go back for it though! I chose 2nd of June to start after reading it’s not quite in peak midge season and it’s still likely to have good weather. And yes I agree, don’t take anything you aren’t gonna be using every day.

      @@EdwardHarrisYeah i do too. Despite typical german winter (cold, windy and yucky) i went for a ride. Was like 4C and headwind. Had a blast anyways. Just dont wear summer shoes in winter or youve got icecubes for feet.

    Any particular reason you chose to do the JOG-LE direction instead of LE-JOG?

    • @EdwardHarrisYeah
      @EdwardHarrisYeah  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Originally it was because I live in South East England and I didn’t want the longer train journey home at the end. But I’m definitely glad I did do it that way round, I was fitter by the time I reached Cornwall which helped a lot!

    Things have come a long way. Joining the army in 1974 I could imagine the response if a recruit had approached the Master Chef stating that he was a Vegan , Lactose Intolerant, wheat adverse or had a nut allergy. He would have been told not to take the p!ss and placed immediately on kitchen fatigues!

    I don't know how vegans survive, let alone vegan cyclists riding LeJog? Why is it that vegan food tries to mimic meat? I was vegetarian for 11 years. It ruined my health. Been eating meat and lots of it, for a about 15 years now. Took me about 3-4 years to recover from a vegetarian diet. I was for ever run down knackered and getting injuries that wouldn't heal particularly calf injuries, but now these have gone. Back to full fitness and strength like I am 16 years old again. I eat a a very low carb, no sugar, meat and lots of leafy greens, salads and non starchy veg. I don't touch processed food any more. Cook my meals from scratch. Have never felt better. I eat 3-4 eggs a day either as an omlette or scrambled eggs, poached or fried. Lots of oily fish sardines, mackerel, organic free range chicken and a thick juicy rump steak once a week. As I say I feel great, lots of energy. I can ride so much further and faster than I used to and also not feel so knackered after. Recovery now is much improved. Don't eat bread or grains or any wheat, pasta or any of that processed crap. Only fruit I eat are berries raspberries, blueberries and strawberries.

      @EdwardHarrisYeah  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Heya, glad you’re feeling better again! I just ate whatever I was craving whilst out on the ride to be honest, lots of options out there 👊

      It’s interesting how different bodies function on different foods. It seems the best thing to do while you find out what works for you is to avoid processed food altogether.
