    Something that works very well for protecting your tweezer tips is heat shrink. Find one that fits the tip as close as possible. Then just apply your heat and now you have a tip protector that is economical.

    Was recently resizing my first bracelet on a Seiko 5 and the spring bar went flying. I was able to find it, as it went into an overhead metal cabinet. But it completely blew apart into three pieces and couldn't find the one end pin.
    Appreciate the content (and Canadian pricing).

      Good thing it’s a spring bar that flew out and not a movement part. :)

    Excellent information on watch tools. Bergeon tools are expensive but they are long lasting, precision and exclusively meant for watch repairing. At least some affordable tools from this company can be purchased for efficient working.

    Great video and thought since I’ve been collecting vintage watches for awhile and it’s getting expensive, that I finally try to learn how to at least do the basic watch repair and know how to open the watch. Plus I just went to someone who’s a Seiko and Casio dealer and he wasn’t that good and scratched on of my watches bc while opening the back with this wooden thing to hold it down, I don’t think it had any padding and scraped the face of my watch with the wood. And he said he’s been doing it for over 40 years and I had no watch repair experience and had more common sense and care. Proves you could do something for a hundred years and still be below average and it all depends on the person and their standards. I wonder how many watches he’s scratched and no one ever said anything and making him feel he’s good at his craft. Lol!

    Magnification is essential definitely. I don't like using eye loupes much. Instead I use a magnifying visor instead. I recently added a digital microscope. Far less expensive than an optical microscope setup and is extremely helpful for inspecting parts, to aid in oiling, as well as taking videos and photos.

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The thing about a microscope is it can cause some people to feel dizzy and light headed.

    • @gpraceman
      @gpraceman 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TimelessHistoryChannelI did end up getting an optical microscope. Couldn't get used to trying to look up at a screen while working with tweezers and screwdrivers with my digital microscope. It is much easier for my brain to manage those movements when I am looking down through the lenses at what I am doing. I wish that I would have just bit the bullet earlier and skipped the digital microscope. Not to mention that it would have been cheaper in the end.

    Very helpful thank you. I keep wondering if the glass remover tool ever scratches or dents the crystal with those sharp claws.

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome. If you are trying to fit a crystal that is many times larger, then yes, you may see the marks around the crystal. But you can always use "polywatch" to remove them. When you fit the right size crystal using this tool, you'll not see any marks.

    I have got small steel round plates from car engine to adjust the valves, I am using two of them to close the watch after replacing battery. The plates protecting watch surfaces from damage when clamping in small vice.

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's why it's important a watch case clamp to get the job done right without damaging the case.

    • @radoslawjocz2976
      @radoslawjocz2976 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TimelessHistoryChannel It is relatively easy job if the front glass and back bezel are both flat. But this is not the case in vintage watches.

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's correct. Which is why as mentioned on the video to use the dies with centre dome on the crystal side. And if the case back has raise emblem as well, then you'll need to use only dies with centre dome.

    Just taken delivery of a few watch repair tools but forgot to get a Watch repair mat and then saw your video. Tw things spring to mind, everything's a lot smaller than I was expencting and second, the mat shown in your video, I've now ordered one. It describes it as magnetic to retain screws etc. from disappearing. My question is, once I've carried out some work on the mat, will everything that's been placed on the mat become magnetized?
    Thanks again, great video.

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. Are you saying that the mat is magnetic? The mat is not magnetic at all. It is rubber, so when you have watch parts, they will not be easily moved around like on an actual Swiss-made Bergeon watch repair mat. This mat is suitable for travelling around, but when I repair watches inside my shop, I use my Bergeon mat. Which is hard, flat, and smooth.

    Would the crystal lift work on a vostok acrylic glass that has a metal tension ring?

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Crystal lift is not to be use on any crystal with metal tension ring. If you're able to remove a crystal with tension ring out of a case with the crystal lift, that means the crystal is improper size.

    A question regarding the hard removal tool. When I look online I see that there are some for both the hour and minute hands then there are also ones for the second hand. So different ones are required and can’t just use one for all hands?

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apologize for the delay. You can use regular hands remover on all three hands. But for the small second hand or chronograph recording (small) hands, it is better to use a different tool for those.

    You need to buy an absolute digital caliper or just a mechanical caliper. Digital calipers that are not absolute have wheels in them which can slip. When they slip, a lot of times you won't notice it; so you make a measuring error. My father made a 1000+ euro mistake on a lathe because of a digital caliper.

    Thanks for your video. Would you suggest that I also invest in a tool to wind a mainspring, or is it only necessary when taking apart the entire watch, giving it a full cleaning, then putting it back together? These tools are very expensive. Also, where can I purchase parts cleaning and rinsing solutions in Canada? Thanks so much.

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I made this video introducing tools that any watch collectors can learn on their own. If you're looking for watch making tools and how to use them, I suggest that you take a course to learn about watch repair first. Or find a watch maker who can teach you. Watch making takes many years to learn, not something you can pick up in a week.

  • @smashexentertainment676
    @smashexentertainment676 ปีที่แล้ว

    I keep all these tools at my local watch service. Coz there's no reason to own all this stuff for a few watches, but if you do, then it's reasonable to consider opening your own watch service.

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Many watch collectors that I know do own many tools. While some collectors may keep their collection small, they may trade or resell to replace ones that they no longer interested anymore. So it is essential to own a fair amount of tools. But if you’re someone who has a reliable watchmaker or prefer to have your local watchmaker handle the technical side for your watches. Then probably most tools are not essential to you.
