@@markvitacco9814 I think they are the 4mm ones and the lowest grit available. I will have to check online about that. I use a Bergeon 7971. It's a small leather tipped pen which buffs them up nicely
One must have the correct tools in order to perform the correct service. When i have some time i the fall i think i will record my set up and open myself up to comments and suggestions. ( oh the fear 😅 ) Thank you Matt for sharing your workspace and tools with us 🍻
Thank you. Even though I am not now a complete beginner, the explanation and information about tools is always good. I saw many of your tools on your videos and they helped me in guiding me as to relevant purchases.
Thanks for the lab and bench tour. More tools to put on the shopping list. And many thanks for the shout-out for the tool holder. In version 2, I made the round holes slightly larger to better fit the handles on some of the tools. This print has generous infill so there is material to drill out the holes slightly larger. 1 or 2mm made a big difference. Stay well !
Thanks for the video! I have started to dip a toe into the hobby by changing my own quartz watch batteries. I want to take the next step into mechanical by putting together a watch from parts. The only thing I am wondering about is what movement would be good for starting out to learn how to service it? Would a 2 or 3 hand pocket watch movement work better than a wrist watch one since it's larger?
Thanks for watching. I would say go for it! A lot of people do start on pocket watches but I would actually say go for a simple hand wind wrist watch. 1: You would move on to wrist watches anyway so why wait. 2: You might even find that although pocket watch movements are larger (like you said) you could encounter some issues that might stop you in your tracks and put you off. Mainly that pocket watches are notorious for having broken balance staffs (no incabloc) so that would leave you in a frustrated pickle as it can be fiddly and you more than likely wouldn't have the tools to replace one. A nice simple cheap Swiss hand winder would be the way to go imo. Goodluck 👍👍
Thanks for this Matt 👍. It’s surprising how quickly your selection of “escalation “ tools for caseback removal builds up! 😂. I am similar in setup except the cleaning machine and jacot, not been able to find affordable and decent of either yet, I also forwent the automatic pivot wearing tool for different reasons.
Great setup, now i can understand more what do you feel when you watching the asian guy found and fix videos.😂😂 I always had a kind of interest learning how to service watches but sadly my hands are too shaky, so i just keep watching videos about it.
Yeah those videos do cheese me off a bit hence my rants about them lol. Sorry to hear about your hands. Thankfully mine are pretty solid, it's just everything else that seems to be falling apart 😂
I'm interested in the specifics on your microscope setup. Model, Barlow lens magnification, eyepiece magnification, camera mount magnification, and camera.

Very interesting. One question regarding the stereo microscope. What magnification range did you get please? Amscope seem to offer several trinocular choices. Thanks! Really want to get into horology. I get chronic fatigue so need something less taxing than maybe can earn me a few bucks, or at least pay for itself.
The difference is the lenses that you can get. For watchmaking, you need the one with the 0.5X Barlow lens and the 10X eye pieces. I bought the Eakins equivalent of the Amscope SM-4TP (3.5X-45X) recently, which was less expensive, and am liking it so far.
Thanks for your video. Really helpful. I will need to get a staking set. EBay in the US tends to be pretty expensive, which is really annoying. Do you know anyone who has experience with the Pearl staking sets from India? Wondering as to quality. Thanks!!!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching. I haven't used one of those Pearl sets you speak of. You guys have some awesome thirft store and flea markets, surely they pop up from time to time there.
Haha yes excellent spot. It you look on the oiling station far right there is a small pot with the black chrono grease I use for the automatic barrels. I’m sure I’ve missed more things. Thank god I didn’t open up all of the draws 🤣🤣 thanks for watching

Do you know the number for the pivot polishing tool that fits in a pin vise, and what do you use to clean up hands and dial indices ?

LOL in the USA Super fresh is a grocery store chain!!
I would so visit that store 🤣
What is the brand and model of your slide microscope? Where can it be purchased?
Its an Amscope trinocular microscope. You can buy them on Amazon or directly from Amscope themselves. Thanks for watching

What about the digital camera on top of it?
there are sooo many watch tools
Just a few 😉
Is there a general site for finding blueprints for common movements, with disassembly sequences? It's a long shot, but I had to ask.
Not really for disassembly instructions however there are tech sheets around. Cousins Uk is a good site for downloading many as a pdf

Its a tools set with a price of a few AP Royal Oaks 🙄 Man, so cool stuff 👌
Waiting for my Amscope to be delivered… I should stop watching these videos, now there’s a couple more tools that would come handy… Sisyphus task!!😂
