    Hey! Are you a fuji photographer that came to the comment section to tell me how a phone can never compete with a real camera? Cool! I agree with you!
    Have you come here to tell me that one of the most important parts of this camera is the shooting experience? Cool I agree with you!
    The only time I mention the phone is purely for convenience and portability. I've known far too many people to buy an x100 (or several Fujis for that matter) thinking it would inspire them to shoot more, and it didn't. The camera sits at home on the closet.
    I also know people who bought a fuji camera and it *did* inspire them to shoot more! Thats awesome!
    But some of you fuji shooters need to relax a little bit, just because I said iPhone doesn't mean I actually think its a superior tool, it just might be a superior use of your money if you're a casual shooter and don't have thousands of spare dollars lying around.

    Hello, nice video but I think you missed the point of the x100v (or x100f).
    I understand your opinion when you say that people can use their smartphone and get really good shots, and for a vast majority of casual photographers it's true.
    But for people who are into photography as a hobby and a little bit more (semi professionnals for example), the x100 series fills the gap between the portability of smartphones and the possibilities that offer greater sensors (APS C in this case). I'm not even speaking of RAW shooting which is almost mandatory in order to do photo editing.
    So, indeed, the x100v is expensive, but I really prefer having a cheap smartphone in the left jean pocket and an excellent camera in the right jean pocket.
    About the XT4, once again, I think that you can't compare both : yes the XT4 is more versatile, but a lens on it results in a bigger camera at the end that you can not put into your jean pocket. And that's the use case of the x100 series IMO.
    An expensive use case, sure, on that we can agree :p

      100% agree with you Guillaume! I have owned every version of the F100 and loved them all. I also have a full xt3 kit, but the x100 is my go to camera for travel. I can keep my travel gear to carry on size, get insanely good quality shots, full control, Raw files, and I can be stealthy on the streets. It is an exceptional camera series and it made photography fun for me again. Phones are not in the same realm. I will buy it for sure!

      I get your point, but even though the x100 is smaller than the x-t cameras, it's still big enough that it might as well be an x-t sized camera. If you want something like what you're describing I don't see any option than the Ricoh GRII or III

      The worse we can say about the x100v is that you cannot make a call with it. I have some difficulties to understand why a camera could be better if doing a caffee too, but neither the iPhone does.

  • @The_Essential_Light
    @The_Essential_Light 4 ปีที่แล้ว +118

    The sensor in a phone is incredibly small compared to the sensor in the X100V. Although they do a pretty good job sometimes, the portrait mode on a phone seems to always have trouble with the edges of a subject, especially hair. It is $1,399.00 in the U.S. I bought one today even though I have had a X100F since 2017. The LCD screen is a lot sharper than the previous models. Some of my best photos have been taken with the X100F and it makes you want to go shoot. Another Canadian TH-camr recently did a video that was shot entirely on the iPhone 11 Pro. It looked great but everything was in focus. There is just so much more you can do with a camera as opposed to a phone. There have been plenty of photos that I reluctantly took with my phone. I bought a Ricoh GRiii awhile back and it is often in my pocket. Phones have their place but it is not a tool for professional photography.

    • @JesseDriftwood
      @JesseDriftwood  4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I agree with almost everything here, including my love for the Ricoh GR. A phone definitely doesn’t come close with DOF, but my point is it is so much better in terms of portability and practically for most people.

      @JesseDriftwood  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Leon I said “if the main reason you’re interested in buying an x100 is strictly for portability than I don’t think it’s necessarily the right option”. That’s not a message for most photographers, it’s for all the regular people that constantly ask me about buying one of these as their first camera because they want something small so that they’ll take it with them. I’ve known loads of people who bought a first camera like this and didn’t end up using it at all.

    Thing is, I'm perfectly fine with paying $1500 for a camera. But I'm absolutely not fine with paying more than $200 for a phone. Because the literal only use I have for my phone is Whatsapp. Movies? TH-cam? Web browsing? I've got a tablet, a laptop and a desktop for that. Taking notes? Drawing? I have a pen for that.
    When I see my phone lying on my desk I might think 'Should I call or text someone?' but never 'I want to go out and take some photos.' I mean, it could be that I only think that way because we still call them phones... They're communications devices and every other feature on them will always feel sort of gimmicky to me.

    My phone is in and out of my pocket all day and the lens covers smeared with finger grease most of the time which makes backlit shooting a nightmare. Give me a dedicated camera every time for anything I might print. Which makes the X100V a great pocketable alternative to the other Fujifilm bodies. Plus everyone forgets the leaf shutter. You can’t buy a modern used Hassey lens for the price of this camera, and if you want to experiment with the benefits of a leaf shutter for portraits or other fill flash scenarios, this is an awesome way to do it. But if you’re trying to run and gun to keep your Instagram feed full, no, not the camera for the job.

    Either this camera is for you or it isn't. I love the X100 concept. It's what I want from a camera. Shooting, not three hours of button smashing and menu chasing. This is a killer camera. It's the first time I've ever wanted to upgrade my X100S. If you don't want to buy one, it says more about you and what you want from photography than it does about this camera.

    I own the X100T and I love it. I am fully aware that there are options that might be "better", but it is just a camera that offers me a very enjoyable experience. Since photography is a hobby for me, I believe experience comes before practicality (which is very unusal for me). Also, despite the fact that phone cameras are amazing today, there are still certain applications where a phone just cannot keep up. They are few, but they are still there. ;-) (quick action in bad light, flash photography, actual bokeh and not some ai rendered stuff)

    I owned the first x100 and bought it used for around 320 usd. That was around 5 years ago. I sold it cause I was going into videos and it wasn't a good fit.
    I loved that camera so much and it taught me so much about being patient with photography, and its the closest film experience that you can get.
    The new x100v will only appeal to those who fell in love with the x100 concept. It's a special line of cameras. It's the epitome of a minimalist photographer - not having to think what lens to bring or what focal length. The x100 series is my favorite series of digital cameras. Will definitely be buying this for the weather sealing (with filter), great video quality for occasional videos, better optics, autofocus and the tilt screen. Smartphones really aren’t there for street photography.
    I’ve tried each generation of iPhone for street photos but even the iPhone 11 Pro photos look like they’re phone pictures, simply due to the small sensor and cheaper optics.

    • @JesseDriftwood

      I LOVED my x100s, and I probably should have mentioned the weather selling and better lens more because those are the biggest deals in this camera. I liked the review even though I have to disagree with you on the outcome.
    I am a very price-to-value shopper and always reconsider my photo setup to become more efficient and better priced then the setup before while trying to find the optical image quality and also the experience of shooting.
    I went trough various iterations of iPhone photography as well as Sony fullframe (a7, a7II, a7r) vs. Fuji crop (Fuji X100T, X-T10, X-E3, X-T20, X100F, X-T2).
    My conclusion was that neither the iPhone nor the Sony could give me this special excitement of shooting and this experience of really composing my shot and trying out something different to get out of my comfort zone. With the iPhone it was always like spray&pray and even when I tried to do some candid shoots it always felt like the photos were lacking "soul" - it kind of was the same with the sony only with absolutely great image quality and DoF but the pictures still lacked "character" even though i was shooting with highly regarded Zeiss glas (modern & vintage). It was never the same as with my fuji and especially with my kind of low-res fuji cameras (e.g. Fuji X-T10 which i still loved the most until today).
    I am very drawn to film photography for the shooting experience and the handling - not the development part so this is why the Fujis are so close to my heart, they give me kind of a quite similar shooting experience without having to deal with the (for me) downsides of film photography :)

    Smartphones are convenient and make images that are "good enough" to satisfy most people, but the X100 series of cameras [like any real camera] can make images that, for technical quality (resolution, contrast, gradation, minimal noise, ... ) are in a completely different class . And you can make images with a largish sensor that a phone can only try to fake (and fail dismally in my opinion, as in fake background blur and fake bokeh). Then there is the way it is used, the OVF, the EVF, the tilting screen, the flexibility of configuration to suit the individual, the leaf shutter, the direct controls, ... these all help the photographer to be creative, compose precisely, and realize their vision.

    As a Fuji (X-T4) owner and lover and someone who is now looking to get an X100V too, I found this video extremely interesting. I felt sure it was going to be some clickbait shite to lure us in and get the views. I was wrong...and you are right. Even as a keen enthusiast that extols the virtues of a camera over a phone (Samsung S20+), I have to agree that for most photos that the average enthusiast takes, they are taken with a phone, myself included. Some of my best photos have been taken with a phone. This isn't because the phone is superior but more that it is something I always have with me - as you pointed out. However, most of my most memorable photos, and photo shoots, have been taken with a camera and that's because it's a totally different experience (for me at least). If I'm going out with a camera then everything is done with purpose. If it's the phone then it's a case of 'if I see something I have it covered'. And for me that's the major difference. The experience and purpose is completely different between phone and camera when out shooting. They both produce the goods and they both get the job done yet, IMHO, one requires more thought and a more purposeful and planned approach. Interesting to see that the other guy in the video chose to go with an older model. Kudos to him!

    For me, my phone is my sketchbook and my cameras (x100 included in those) are my canvases. LOL if you don't paint i guess this makes no sense so how about a road trip. My phone is my map and with it, i work out where i want to go and what i want to do. then use my car (camera) to get there.

    I have felt the same way and yet I always come back to the x100 line. I have realized that the price is not really that high if you love the focal length and the size. If you love photography you need to try this out for a month as a daily driver. My phone can deliver the goods but this camera serves up the experience and ultimately has me creating images I would not with my phone.

    Great video. I'm actually one of those that will be buying it. I live in the fuji world (x-t2, 2 x-t3s, x-t20) and used to have an x100s. I traded it in when I got the x-t3s and miss it. It was in fact the camera that I was always reaching for - particularly for family stuff - because it was smaller and easier to have with me. I found that even the x-t20 with a lens was enough bigger that I wouldn't have it on me all the time. You're probably right that for most people it doesn't make sense over a used F or T. But, for me, the improved quality from this lens and the video capability make it worth it. I also make a living with my cameras, so that makes it an easier pill to swallow.

      I agree completely! And like I said 14 times in this video, the only way the iPhone can actually compete is for convenience. I know multiple people (non photographers) who bought "small cameras" to take on trips but never actually ended up using them because they weren't actually all that convenient. So my point is that for the average user, its worth considering if you should actually be dropping a tonne of money on a new camera, or just upgrading your phone which is something you'll use everyday anyway.

    I think all your points are valid and totally agree with them. I'm also a X100V and that camera is perfect for me. It literally have made me give up my phone for taking photos. I take it everywhere at any time. Also have an interchangeable camera and some analogue cameras too. All have taken the back seat since August, when I got the V. Can totally understand people who wouldn't get it though. It's quite expensive and you have to really learn and love type of photography It's geared towards to make sense. I sold some of my favourite camera gear to be able to buy it. I'm really happy I enjoy it so much as I do. But it's certainly not for everyone. I think you've got to be a person who always want to have a camera with you at all times. Who knows how to take advantage of it's different features. Like the leaf shutter, built in ND and flash. Have had it out in a blizzard in the city I live in and the ability to use the built-in flash made this camera great and fun. Took some of my most loved photos. But to finish off, I also totally agree with you Jesse. It's an amazing camera but many people out there can manage with something else and phones a great for most of us.
    Peace out!

      Wow really ? I'm thinking about buying a new camera since months, and my final decision is still not made lol, used Leica Q or x100v ? I still have no answer
      I bought a DSLR 3 years ago but I had to sell it because I wasn't using it as much as I wanted to because I needed to carry it around and decided to shoot everytime.
      That's why I'm looking for a compact, polyvalent camera with very good image quality that I can use for travel, everyday use, festivals, family trips ..
      Something I can carry around easily in a fannypack and use often.
      Why did you sold your Q2 ? It's the ultimate compact camera for a lot of people I guess
      Did you found a really big difference in image quality between the two ?

    • @lucid6067
      @lucid6067 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tiens tiens Retiens i do favor the rendering and micro contrast of the Leica. Although what drew me to the Q2 were the colors. I do a lot of photography for my friends senior portraits and for some reason they prefer soft grainy film like images. Fuji hits that on all measures with Eterna/Chrome. I do miss my Nikon D750 and Sigma 35mm 1.4 art though. That’s far superior to anything Fuji puts out in my opinion.

    I have x100f and my favourite thing in the world is to pick it up and go for 3-4 hour walks in London, just shooting whatever interesting I come across.
    I have a pixel 4 as well, but, with all due respect to the very experienced photographer in the video, I have no idea how you could even begin to compare a phone to an actual camera.
    The experience is not the same, but neither are the results.
    I can tweak my dials intuitively and quickly on my fuji, I've taken a whole lot of images that there is no way I could take on my phone.
    Raw files have a softer, much nicer look to them. Every smartphone produces at least slightly over sharpened images due to the computational photography going on.
    Idk, its a strange thing to hear from a photographer.

  • @jacobleetech
    @jacobleetech ปีที่แล้ว

    I have been trying to figure out if I should just use my phone, but if you want RAWs AND to be able to change your settings in a manual mode, using an actual camera is way faster. I'm still on the fence. I have an EOS R that I use ALL the time for when I'm "going to get shots" but also find myself pulling out my phone in situations I wasn't planning on needing a camera and wishing I had a camera.

    just awesome Jesse. I was ready to buy the 100V, and then thought about it much in the way you describe. I already shoot with an XT3, and that is good enough for the fuji experience. But not the always with me experience. Bought a used mint GR3 for substantially less than half of the cost 100v. Appreciate your channel always, but especially this type which removes the hype and urgency to feed the consumerism around the art and craft.

  • @Initialgs
    @Initialgs 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    A couple of points, I think it also depends on how you are viewing or sharing your images. If in the main you are shooting and all you do is chuck them up on Instagram, FB or looking at on your phone then yeah sure your modern phone cameras will be up to the job.
    Of course if you are printing, or looking at the images in more detail or even want to shoot professionally then of course the phone really cannot compete, sensor size and the light gathering of that glass is just so much richer. Plus of course you ave more control over your shot.
    The other point as others have said it’s about the experience. In the same way that listening to a vinyl record is more of a sense of occasion, despite its drawbacks (having to actually get up and turn it over..... how crazy is that), using a camera like the Fuji, a Leica and so on is about taking the time and giving yourself a moment to think about the shot you want, having control over the light, settings and so on, and when it all comes together you are ultimately rewarded (hopefully) with an image that actually took some effort to get, things that take effort are on the whole more valuable and have more meaning.
    Not taking anything away from a camera phone of course for your average Jo/Joanne, it’s convenient and always with you and can produce superb results.
    Of course not everyone one wants to take that time over going out and getting that shot, and off course the speed and capabilities of the V (F etc) means it is also more than capable of grabbing that snap shot in the moment. But it also offers so much more....

    There is one thing that makes a huge difference between an iPhone 11 and a Fuji X100V: Print quality.
    Try to print a 60x90 cm poster for a gallery. One with a 26.1 MP large pixels APS-C Sensor (raw file which btw it has a lot more information ) from the Fuji vs 12 MP small pixels tiny sensor from the iPhone 11. If that is not enough, then try to do the same with pictures shot under lowlight conditions. The iPhone still generates this blotchy weird effect (if you zoom in the file), losing a lot of fine detail (and looking really bad on larger prints).
    So the X100V is a great choice for street photographers, documentary and even artistic photography. A simple camera with a big sensor that doesn't intimidate... and yes Its leaf shutter has the ability to sync with a flash unit at an ambient-crushing 1/1000 of a second.
    So no, there are not the same. Two really different tools for different targets.
    Search on Google for Damien Lovegrove photos made with the X100. Quite amazing work.

    • @JesseDriftwood
      @JesseDriftwood  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree completely. Keep in mind I never compared the quality of these. I simply said if the primary reason you are looking to buy an x100 is convenience, you’d be better off looking elsewhere (even the Ricoh GR if you still don’t like phones). I originally bought the x100s because I was sick of lugging around my 5d3 and 35L for casual shooting, and I know a lot of others who did the same.
      I get that the x100v is an incredible street photographers camera, and for some it fits them perfectly but it is a very niche user that actually needs it.

    Interesting and enjoyable video 👍 totally get what you’re saying but for me the the point of a camera is to take photos and the point of a phone is to make telephone calls, that’s where it ends. Yes modern day phones take fantastic pictures, but that’s it, they’re snap shots and I personally don’t find any interaction with he phone as I do with a camera. The point of the X100 range has always been fixed focal small package take everywhere camera so you’re buying into that and not an XT2/3/4... which completely defeats the point of wanting an X100. For me my phone is the last option if I have nothing else with me. Totally get what you’re saying though and yes that would suit a vast majority of people who really don’t care about cameras but just want to take photos.

    Early 2021 I was due for a new phone. I put so much effort in researching if I should go for the newest IPhone or the Samsung 21 Ultra which I ultimately went with. Really regret it now because I don't like the picture quality at all. I'll get the Fujifilm x100V soon! I've been shooting with a Canon 700D (5Ti) the last few years and considered upgrading to the new Sony A7lV to go mirrorless but the cost of the body and then all the lenses I couldn't justify for just a hobby. I think going with Fujifilm and the little camera I can bring everywhere will challenge my creativity a whole different way!

Still loving and shooting with it I will get the V ASAP for the new lens the weather sealing and the flip screen to save the old knees a tad. That intro was epic. Holy sh*t, so creative.
    Thanks for going against the grain, probably being the only review so far that has told me not to go and buy it.
    My opinion: I loved the idea of the x100 series so far but they were always too slow for me in terms of focussing. This one is finally up to par. So I'm going to get one for professional use. As second camera, for getting environmental portraits and candid shots, switching it up with my primary XT30 with 35mm F2 lens on it.
    Somewhat related: I think the XT30 is a great budget option and I wonder why almost no pros use it. Is it the lack of a second card slot? For me: smaller camera = more relaxed subject = better portraits..

    "You use it with the intention to take photos". That's it. For me, the thought of "I'll take the camera" without any considerations regarding lens choice or what bag to pack plays the trick. I can just throw the X100 around my neck and basically forget it's there. That being said: Anytime I have to take pictures of an event, my trusty DSLR+24-70 does the job. Also, for the average person: I recently told a friend who asked for advice "what camera should I get?", I just told him to get a better phone next time around. Crazy times. Would not have given that piece of advice only a couple of years ago.

    As someone else aptly pointed out, you are completely missing the point of the X100v. As a pro shooter, who shoots mostly Nikon, I find that for a lot of street and travel that I do for myself, I prefer going out with lighter gear. The Fujifilm X-T4 is awesome and I use it frequently. However, there are many times when I'm out and about and I want something a little smaller than the X-T4 and actually want a fixed focal length...especially when I'm traveling or doing street photography in a sketchy area. It's compact and easily fits into a jacket pocket...but packs A LOT of punch. The x100v has the same sensor as the X-T3 and X-T4 and produces sensational images that, in most cases, prints well up to 51 x 76 cm. The iPhones have obviously gotten really good...but, sorry, we're talking apples and oranges. Images out of a phone don't give you much latitude in post production and don't hold up to serious editing. Plus, I don't want a camera that makes all the critical decisions (aside from framing) for me. The X100v is the ideal camera for serious hobbyists and professionals interested in either street and travel photography. It's also excellent for serious photographers who want to have a camera handy for family functions where you can actually hand your camera over to a 10 year old or your 90 year old granny and get a great image without spending 30 minutes explaining how to snap a picture.

    I own multiple fuji cameras and I think you make a lot of good points. It takes a specific kind of person to want to bring a camera everyday, and the XT line is objectively better in every way, smartphones are always more portable. With the x100 line getting more and more expensive I find it harder and harder to justify wanting the new one.

    Fair perspective that I can respect, but I think I will be very happy with the X100V.
    I think it’s appealing to someone that was looking to get a pro-level camera (dslr or mirrorless), but didn’t want to get into the GAS trap of interchangeable. You could then argue to then just get an older X100, but the V has essential new features for me such as weather sealing + clarity wide open and at close focusing distances. The flip out screen is also a big bonus for some.
    Basically I was someone ready to shell out the $2-3K for an XT3 or A7III + lens, but settled on learning photography with an ultra-portable, super-capable, fixed-lens camera like the X100V.

    The x100 series is amazing, and the latest one tops the line. I’m invested in Nikon and it just doesn’t make good sense to switch around - I’ve seen many photographers do that ove the years. I about an 100t for $400, with case, hood and filter adapter. Man, ... I love that camera and I carry it everywhere - kind of annoying to my wife. I don’t have much opportunity to go out for a serious photo with my Nikon gear, so most of my photography since getting the 100t has been with that versatile little camera. Images have been very satisfying. Admiring comments about my old film camera are amusing. I have my iPhone with me, but the 100t is what I use for photography - I nearly forget that I have my iPhone camera with me now. The 35mm focal length has suited me because I can take city scapes and landscapes, ... and the focal length is great for environmental portraits that tell a story, which is my preference. It is great in my garden - wide enough to take in the design of the spaces and capable of close focusing for flower “portraits.” Unfortunately, ... the x100v is just too pricey for me. I have the need to buy some other technology, ... to upgrade my computer, plan for software upgrades, etc. Cameras and lenses are only part of what helps to make good photographs. The x100v would be fantastic, if you can afford it. If you are already into Fuji’s system, it probably doesn’t make sense to get it. I really enjoy the control these cameras give you, the viewfinder/screen option, and the choices for color rendition. The flash can be handy when you set it to mix with the ambient lighting for subtle fill. For most of what I shoot with the camera, the jpegs will work out. I am still learning how to expose so that I can tweak the jpegs in post to get the look I want, but, for the first time ever, ... there are some shots that I only would make look worse by messing with them. And, I’m quickly getting the exposures I need to post process better. The learning challenge has to do with the different film simulations. Great little machines, ... but it makes more sense to buy used. I understand why the x100 series is the “gateway drug” for getting into the Fuji system. I’d love to get an x 100v in a couple-three years when I hope the price will drop - that’s what I anticipate.

  • @linjasonlin

    in an age where everybody is looking at photos on a small smartphone screen and post processing made easy, it is hard to beat the iPhone or any comparable phone...you probably only need a professional/prosumer camera now if you are printing up your photo big, want shallow depth of field, and/or shooting in low light.

    • @spete7
      @spete7 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I do like shooting in low light and like some shallow DOF, I think an even bigger difference for me is just the experience and control of every aspect of your exposure. Just the feeling of holding a nice camera in your hands, changing those dials and setting your exposure to your exact needs, bringing it up to Your eye to compose, and hearing that satisfying click of the shutter, is just something a phone can never replicate for me. I’ve taken great shots on my phone when I don’t have my camera handy, but a phone camera will just never feel the same for me and that’s a big deal tbh, despite all the technical differences.

    Lars Von Tiers speaks in an interview about obstacles. What makes a true learning curve is difficulty. The shot didn't work out.
    (9 times outta 10 you set your ISO too low) The repetition and struggle invites psychological evolution. Learning by pain. The bambambam style of shooting isn't for me. Yes, it's a pain to see what you got on a digital screen in daylight, but I have a loop set up on my Fuji. If you meet your camera halfway, you have an exchange. It isn't going to make you breakfast on Saturday morning because you took it out to dinner the night before. Like film shooting, grab a type of film and just shoot that till you know it inside out. Bambambam will not make you a master. Just a buddy carrying the gear. By the way, a go to camera for many years for me was the Canon Elph 310. Program mode and the 8x optical was a perfect street camera. I recently bought a new one, my fourth. (don't put pocket cameras in pockets without a non lint bag)

    Should I buy it? I have a full frame DSLR that I just love and it's button layout is familiar to me but it's just too heavy to carry around all day, even with just a little 50mm. So I bought a sony rx100 iv for when I just want to walk around for a few hours taking photos. It's almost perfect for that, but it's actually so small I often hit the on/off button instead of the shutter and it's not very comfortable to hold because of it's tiny size. I'm thinking this fuji might be a better fit for me but I'm hesitating because I did briefly own the original x100 and to be honest, didn't really like it. I sort of prefer 50mm to 35mm. Anyones advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I bought the X100T because I was getting lazy with photography and didnt want to lug a dSLR everywhere but at that time the smartphone cameras were not as good as they are today.

    Love that intro! I already watched the teaser from you IG and got really curious about the result. And wow, it's great! Btw I agree with your opinion about smartphone. I do think same. And people need more honest reviews like this. Thanks, man.

    The camera is perfect for street photography and day to day documentary. Can't agree that it's the same as shooting on an iPhone to be honest. But yes - if you're buying the camera just for taking photos of friends and family or on holidays (and don't have much interest in real photography) then just use your phone.

      haha trust me I don’t think (and never said) it’s the same as shooting on an iPhone.

    I’m not sure wether you’d publish this video again, if you had a chance to go back in time. The question is, is X100V honestly something that you can compare the performance of an iPhone camera with?!

    • @JesseDriftwood
      @JesseDriftwood  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well honestly the price hasn’t changed much in the last two years, and the previous models can still be found used for WAY cheaper. I still think the x100v is a niche camera for those who love this form factor, don’t care about the cost, and want the best performance possible with one of these cameras.
      But yes of course you can compare it to an iPhone! You can compare anything you want! But remember I only made the phone comparison in terms of convenience, not pixel peeping.

      @@JesseDriftwood Yeah I agree with you on the fact that it is a niche product for a specific kind of photographers. No objection here! Nevertheless, great quality videos, keep up the great work!

    Creative camera...for experienced shooters...or those who want an extra experience. Pretty far from the iphone11 with best quality for inexperienced shooters, but full of chromatic aberration and limits within the sensor.Yet I agree you don’t need the latest version of an x100.But after I bought the xpro 3 just don’t see the use anymore of one. The small format does make you pick up the camera way more than the bigger system cameras. But I hate the lens quality wide open of the x100 series, you need to use it at 2.8 and in system cameras the Fujinon lenses can be used wide open with perfect results. So very right of you to say love it hate it, and worthwhile second hand for the experience. By the way super video production !

    Interesting perspective...the leaf shutter with a built in 4 stop ND, now weather sealed makes the V a 'pro' backup camera that does double duty for travel/street/flash work. Waiting for mine in black. Treating it like a point and shoot is missing the fact that this is a beast of a camera.

    IMPROVEMENTS from here?
    1. POLARISATION button
    2. addition 4 stop GRAD FILTER button
    3. SELFIE screen
    = PERFECT HOLIDAY CAMERA!!
    What do you think?

    This is exactly the internal debate I had. So for street stuff I went with the xt-3 and 27 2.8. Almost the same form factor, price, and focal length, but I can switch the lenses for other applications when I want to. Also, pre-ordered the x-t4 for basically the same reason, just even more applications.

    • @JesseDriftwood
      @JesseDriftwood  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The xt-4 is a monster of a camera. 2020 is looking good for cameras.

    Great video. There is something you said about the X-T4, I slowly doubting it will be 1799,- € / 1699$, have the feel Fuji gonna adjust pricings, but we will see, the release is pretty much end of month or further in future..

    Nice video! The XT4 is an amazing camera but for me its apples and oranges with the X100 series. The X100's have leave shutter's and sync flash to 1/2000!! That tiny built in flash can give you soms amazing results als in combo with that built in 3 stops ND filter! Shooting in bright light conditions at f2.0. I own quiet some gear/camera's from different brands. What I take any day is my Fuji X100F or older Nikon Coolpix A aps-c 28mm/f2.8 semi-compacts. Give you shots otherwise more difficult to get is my experience. People reactie more in a natural way showing up with an X100, Leica M or Q etc.
