Good point about fast growing hairs vs. run-of-the-mill fly aways. I tend to still wait to trim even those hairs until my scheduled trim whether with a barber or a self trim -- I still think that it prevents over-zealous trimming...and saves time and beard thinning in the long run.
My beard grows slow, very slow. I was stuck in the awkward phase for close to a year before before it finally started to fill in. Now I’m past a year of growth and I’m happy with where it’s at! Just had to be patient
I’m growing my first beard so your advice is welcome. At almost 3 months, it is looking good. I’m lucky to have a well behaved beard that hardly needs trimming (just a little around the neckline & away from my mouth). I’m even playing with a handlebar mo. Looking forward to the next stage. No brakes on this beard.
also a first time beard grower here! 2 and a half months in now. I watched a lot of stuff from the beardbrand channels and I try to do my best to keep the neckline and the part under my chin maintened. So far it looks good, but I would like to have more density. But yeah, thanks to you guys I know a beard is a long time project, so I will give it another month of growth and then I will visit a barbershop for the first time in my life to give it a bit of a shape i'd like to have in the future.
How long has Eric been growing out this beard? I'm on 7 weeks and I'm loving the way its turning out. Its a little thin on the sides but still looks pretty good. Thank you for all of the advice you made me not fear growing a beard anymore.
I havent really shaved in 4 years and really only get some scraggly/wispy under chin and “mutton chop” area hair. i’ve just been rocking a moustache goatee sorta style with sideburns at times since my sideburns are fast growing. So jealous right now of the quarantine beards that are full like yours, Eric. Hopefully I get to a point of having a full beard in the coming years but all the “beardtube” videos I’ve been watching have definitely helped with my “should i shave it off/just have a moustache” feelings at times.
Hi guys, I’m an 18 year old English man, so we do have the genetics for a full bear. I currently have lots of dark hairs on my chin and a decent moustache (don’t connect at the moment). Lots of the advice for growing as young person is for people in their twenties so I don’t know if it applies to me. I have hairs all over my face in the shape of a good beard and have been growing out for a few weeks now as I wanted to start again, but they are all white hairs (vellous I think it is). I was wondering how long it takes for them to become terminal, I have some terminal hairs on the cheeks and jaw line but not many at all. Cheers and sorry for all the waffle 👍
The awkwardness with my beard is my under chin area that never gains any length at all while my chin area grows up to 6 inches, I am always forced to comb my beard backward to make it look full, I hate when my beard looks like a pencil.
Im not a man, but a woman with hirsutism. I started growing obvious facial hair when i was around 9 years old and since we live in a society, i was really scared to be the "girl with the beard" for almost ten years now. I religiously shaved my face almost daily for years, which made my skin dry and irritated, but i knew if i left some stubble on, my classmates comments would hurt more than any skin damage. Around 6 weeks ago, i stopped shaving. I was done spending so much money on shaving and skincare, and i was curious to see how far i could take it; i grew a full frickin beard, minus the sideburns, in just under 2 months! I actually shaved it off today and i already kind of miss it, which is actually why im here now! Beard round 2!!!
Perfect timing on this video. I'm 78 days into my Corona beard and starting to have a hard time styling it. I'll continue to just let it grow. Thank Eric 👍
Great tips, even for me who has been growing for some years now. Particularly trimming straight back at the bottom, and clipping fast growers as opposed to flyaways. I believe my curly beard's flyaways are a fact of life, but the long straight hairs clip to length with no bad effects (that I can see, anyway).
Expect mess is a fantastic one. It's taken me along time to understand that. Great video Eric. Good to see you back at it, hope the little one is doing well!
oh and change up your strategy for grooming is awesome. And providing density is a great tip for helping a beard look as full as it can. This is a great video!
It’s uncanny how my beard looks exactly like yours at the moment. I’ve been growing it out for 3 months. So, it’s a little longer but the shape and waves are exactly the same. I have a low cheek line and my sides are naturally sparse and long and the chin area is dense but a little shorter. I’m glad I caught this video as I wasn’t sure if I should grow it out any further. But thanks to you I’ll keep growing it out. Thank You and Stay Safe.
I've had various types of facial hair for 30+ years and, recently, my biggest issue is all the "snow" in it. Luckily I seem to be skipping gray and going straight to white but those are straight and coarse while my normal beard is about as wavy as Eric's. I'll get it all perfect and, five minutes later, I've got all these white hairs poking in different directions like a cactus. Oh, well. There are bigger problems in life. Stay safe everyone. Cheers from Florida.
I've always had a long stubble that I'd normally trim down to skin level and let it grow again. Quarantine has let me finally grow out to your length and I'm very happy with it but I have no idea how to keep it clean. I really do look shaggy and have no idea how to get my beard flat on the cheeks and sharp on the chin. But thx for the tips, I'm now sure of how to fix this. I'll wait for the barber to help me trim the beard so it looks sharp instead of unkempt.
Thanks for the video. Just knowing that the akward will pass is comfort in itself. The most valueble tip in this video for me was when you mentioned changing the way you brush and "style" your beard as it grows and changes. And also the tip where you create volume underneath for the hairs on top to lay on. Cheers! PS! Seeing you from the side you remind me of James Hetfield when he had his mullet. I think it was around 1994/1995.
Started out when the lockdown in The Netherlands started. Always had a short beard, but rocking a 3 month beard right now. It growing really curly and kinda awkward, but I wanna keep going. Only took some hairs away with a siscors once, mustache too only above the lip.
Good to see you back Eric, at the start of the self quarantine I made this mistake of trying to trim my 4 month old beard. Did not take it slow and the trim turned into taking off half my beard before I got it even. I’ll stick with my barber from now on.
Eric’s right about the part behind the chin. I’m at about the same mark and was letting that go. It grew fast and it was giving me a double chin. Took the weight out there and I’m back to loving the beard again
Exactly about my thoughts! Beard on down part of chin growing faster and i look like i frog at moment, 3rd month without touching, just trimming on a lip line, soon will visit a barber and hope this will work. Thanks for the video!
I am 83 days in already with no trimming at all and it looks awkward. I still need to figure out which style i'll rock with what i naturally have. Just waiting for 100 days to shape it
I grew out my mutton chops chin and mustache to about 2 inches before i started growing the rest and its catching up nicely. Just a tip for anyone with that issue. Neck hairs always grow faster
“It is like the precious oil upon the head, That ran down upon the beard, Even Aaron’s beard; That came down upon the skirt of his garments; Like the dew of Hermon, That cometh down upon the mountains of Zion: For there Jehovah commanded the blessing, Even life for evermore.” Psalms 133:2-3 ASV
I just want an awesome beard stache but my facial hair doesn’t seem like it’s grown in 6 months. My mustache is mediocre. My goatee is pretty good and my sides are… trash
I started growing my beard in March, now in the stage of really digging it! Got my starter kit from Beardbrand. My favorites are the Sea Salt Spray and the Utility Balm. Not kissing up for a discount......but wait a minute! 😀
Eric I was wondering since you often go to Atlanta for StyleCon if you guys know what the best barber or barbershop is in Atlanta? I remember a while back you guys talked something about making a database of great barbershops in many cities. Any suggestions will be great!
I remember this haha. But around 1 and a half years this is the hardest ive ever "wanted" to shave, but ofcourse wouldnt. But get tempted. It's actually worse than the beginning stage because all the stuff you trimmed has to catch up with the rest so it's all uneven and there's really no way to fix it except wait
im on it now too, looks good man, mine looks like shit with holes and gaps in it, yet allot of guys just nod to me on the streets cuz beard cool haircut btw
@@EricBandholz No problem! How do I go about getting that hair style? I feel if I walk in saying give me that mullet special I'll walk out with something I'll regret haha.
It's always bugged me when people say to be presentable. Society has a vision of what someone should look like only to make sales. Hair cuts, beard cuts, oils, balms, razors and clippers etc. I try my best to not judge a book by its cover and have always said if someone doesn't want to associate with me because of the way i dress or look then that said someone can keep walking. 🤔😉🤪
Kids clean shave during lockdown, Boys grow stubble during lockdown, Men grow full beard during lockdown, Legends, well they have no affect of lockdown. They keep growing!!
My beard is really straight so don’t know how to work with it your is curly and looks more dense it will be cool if you make a video about straight hairs
I shaved mine a few weeks ago and missed it terribly glad it's growing back (slowly) but surely lol... Where do you get your tshirts from I love the look of the material?
Hi Eric, This is the first time of my life I'm growing a relatively big beard, It's been like 6 months since no shaving or trimming at all. (Thank you for all the advice you have given us). As usual, people and even family members are telling me to trim it, that I don't look good, they're not used to this, but I had to commit to keep growing it and now I really really love it and it's sad that now governments at least where I live are saying that we have to clean shave due to pandemic :/ I mean, I understand, it's a health problem, but why did it happen when I was doing this for the first time? haha Hope you the best
I would love to grow a beard. Not a real big one but just have a nice coverage and thick beard, damn that would be nice. It takes like a month to have just a few long hairs but nothing which could be called a beard. Way to few hairs and too many holes. I guess it's my genes?
Its crazy, if I did all these rules (plus all the other BBA videos info) one year ago, my beard would be full and fantastic (to me and that's what matters right? haha), but like a lot of men we chip, shave and trim here and there, we get impatient and don't improve our input (diet lifestyle etc), we waste a bit of time that's why this info is so valuable. I am finally at a point where I know exactly what to do, start to finish, especially during the awkward phase and every phase in between - I am one month in and really excited. Beard brand A is one of my favourite channels, god damn love Mr BHZ, so thanks for the good work
Hey Eric, what do you think about beard butter, is it worth? Actually i've a 2 months beard (maybe a bit longer than yours or almost the same but with smaller mustache) and as you said i clear the line on the neck and on the cheeks and I use oil 3 times a week
So our butter based product is called Utility Balm. It's a heavier product than a beard oil and works great beyond the beard. I'd say it's a preference thing if you like a heavier conditioning product or lighter one. I talked more about it here: th-cam.com/video/bq1_aBkKWgU/w-d-xo.html
Yeah! I'm 10 weeks in and definitely better than I thought from previous attempts. Big straight tach but poodle curly from the jaw line. There is no straightening this thing. Should I upgrade straight to styling balm? Tried the wife's round brush and dryer but tbh it doesn't do much but make puffy and dry the hair.
Utility balm is a good starter if you haven't been using it already. It moisturizes the skin, makes the beard softer, and gives it a medium hold. Styling balm is the strong hold if you want to jump straight to that. -Ben

17 months in and still awkward.

6 months still going

Hey Eric, what do you think about beard butter, is it worth? Actually i've a 2 months beard (maybe a bit longer than yours or almost the same but with smaller mustache) and as you said i clear the line on the neck and on the cheeks and I use oil 3 times a week
So our butter based product is called Utility Balm. It's a heavier product than a beard oil and works great beyond the beard. I'd say it's a preference thing if you like a heavier conditioning product or lighter one. I talked more about it here: th-cam.com/video/bq1_aBkKWgU/w-d-xo.html
