"A stray hair today is not a stray hair tomorrow". I should start living by that rule! My beard is rather thin/patchy and any hairs I end up removing probably does more harm rather than "fixing" anything.. good rule/tip!
Jeroen van Achterberg bruh mindblown. I trim down my stray hairs and end up fucking up my facial hair because of that. I end up having to shave because it starts to look uneven. So much to learn
1. Will not wash his beard everyday 2. Will not sleep with a wet beard 3. Will not trim and stray hairs, watch to see why! 4. Will not go without styling his beard, due to bald patches 5. Wont wear a scarf, makes it look weird.
Only one that I don't follow is #1, I have very sensitive skin and even after a single day of not washing my beard my upper lip starts to go red. I use the citrus Head and Shoulders, and afterwards use beard oil and it leaves both my beard and skin looking clean. Also the only stray hairs I clip are on my chin since that's where my beard is thickest, anything stray on my cheeks I try and pull back down with oil, I don't like using wax since it makes my beard feel really stiff.
What a fantastic point about not trimming your stray hairs on the side. "A stray hair today, is not a stray hair tomorrow"..definitely understand what you mean when it comes to density. Keep on growing mate!
I once had an ex sister in-law tell me that she could never trust a man with a beard, I was stunned, after a few seconds, I responded, I could never trust a woman that wore lots of make up. She went very quiet, I’m pretty sure she went bright red (couldn’t tell through the make up) gave me the death stare, then stomped off still not saying a thing. I walked away about two inches taller 😂
I rub my balls on my boyfriend's beard sometime get the taint in there. Jokes on him when he smells shit during work presentations. Barbra from accounting found a dingelberry in his beard.
Wow, the stray hair thing is a revelation as I just started growing a beard all the way for the first time in my life, at 57, because of Greg. I've been clipping the strays, but not after seeing this vid, thanks Greg for the confidence!!!
Greg, I love that you let anyone touch your beard, i feel exactly the same way. Appreciate the Beard Brand videos and teachings very much. I feel I'm growing a GREAT beard (7 monthsl with your help! I totally notice that 99% of folks dig it. Anybody that touches my beard if pleasantly surprised at how soft and silky it is. Thank you Greg and Beard Brand!
I went back to stubble in order to regrow after a 'hedge trimming' incident. I always thought it made sense to not trim the sides as they only become harder to style, but I succumb to wanting a tidier look. Knowing you don't allow hedge trimming has given me the determination to let it grow. After seeing your styling routine I'm going to buy a round brush for control, can't wait for it to grow back! Thanks for the tips!

The point of my story is i will grow this beard just to make her jealous! I have to admit i'm liking the Beard! Thanks for listening....And for the tips!
Here's mine : I will not listen to people around me who tell me to "shave it off". If it ever comes off it will because I want it off.. Been wanting a long beard for a long time ( no pun intended ).lol I value all of your videos & tips. Great channel! Thx
I like the term "hedge trimming." I try not to do this, but some of my whiskers are such crazy outliers, I end up snipping them back anyway. On my mustache, however, any stray that I can see sticking straight out without using a mirror is clipped asap. My rationale is that I've got a thousand or so whiskers; knocking back a few of them surely won't be a problem. Great video and great beard!

I never put products in my beard. Don’t like the feel of it. On occasion I can style my moustache, but I just let it be. It have worked for 20 odd years.
Frustrate and conquer! My wife used to give me grief about my beard when I transitioned from a goatee to a full beard with handlebar 'stache. I basically ignored her until she finally got fed up of my unresponsiveness to her requests to shave, and now we're all good beard and all.
I have my beard for 13 years and it haven't passed a day without washing it. And the only product I've used is extra virgin olive oil (just a tiny bit on my palms then rub it together and on the beard). I use the original extra virgin olive oil but if you don't like it, there are olive oils with different fragrances . It make it smooth, and grows thicker down the line
Thanks for the "seven months growth" comment. I'm at one month and was wondering how long it would take. My facial hair grows fairly quickly and full.👍
I won't use a comb. Only about 8 months in but for the past 4 months or so I can only use a brush. Combs would just rip hairs out and not go through it well at all.
You're awesome thank you! I personally wont ever stop learning more about grooming a beard. People just think oh simple... not that much. There are s ol me stages that just can kill your confidence and you have to work past it. Not easy to do!
No coloring my beard as some have said. It looks fake, and I have heard horrible stories of guys having nasty reactions to the dye. Embrace the gray! Also, I don't mind people touching my beard, either. Ha I had an older lady come up to me and tell me my beard was beautiful. Totally made me whole day. Good tips, sir.
Oh yeah, I am with you on that. The lady didn't touch it. She just told me it was beautiful. I have since seen her again. Apparently, we have mutual friends. Who knew? If it's someone I know, doesn't bother me one bit.
im a barber and i have a longer beard, i have some gray in it, but i refuse to put chemicals on it, i dont care for the gray, but i wont put hair color chemicals on it!! more important to keep it conditioned
Definitely scarfs and anything with a high collar is out (funnel neck jackets etc) Annoyingly for me I work outside. I style my 18 month beard every morning ( blow dry/balm) and within 10 minutes I look like castaway. Definitely don’t trim the strays. The more you trim the more strays you get. I learned the hard way and now I’m trying to grow all the trimmed strays out so one day I have a nice uniform look all round. Great vid as always. ))
I so love your videos bud , there fantastic and really helpful . I'm growing my third beard, now into round 16 days of growth . In the past I used to trim down sides of it and now , just letting all the hairs grow out evenly without trimming any of it . I find it's really starting to take shape rightly , and not cut at all for first 8 weeks . Thanks again for all your brilliant videos man , cause I've learned and . Picked up so many tips, and pointers many thanks 👍
Even after 2 months of growth, I've found that a beard makes a substantial difference on my face when it comes to buffering it from cold winds. So, I can imagine that Greg's beard length does a fair job as a scarf, as it is.
Thanks for the video. I have been blessed by genetics to have thick facial hair, and have not been clean shaven since I was 18. (I'm now 64!). I have had either a mustache, goatee or full beard. Personally, I like to keep my beard nicely shaped and trimmed and not let it get too long. I just like that look. Living in a climate which has quite cold winters, not wearing a scarf is not an option, especially when subzero temperatures occur. And, I love to have my beard touched!
This beard style is something I plan to shoot for. I'm about this age and my beard is close to the same color now. I do have to wash it daily because I weld. Lots of sweat and slag
When i was in my 20'ies, I'd spend an hour styling my hair and getting it just right, for yet another night working in kitchens. (had to look the part, working with food). In my late forties, baldness had set in, and it was a relief to give myself a number one on top every other week or so. Now I'm heading into beard territory, the first real beard in my life, but your attitude kind of puts me off a bit, never realised that blokes our age still suffered from vanity, or from insecurity of what others think. Sorry if that's perceived as being a harsh comment, It's not my intention to offend you. That's how you came across in this vid.
I won't shave my beard off because my wife wants me to. 😁 it's her fault to start with, she told me to leave it after 1months stubble. I'm 4 months in and now she's asking when it's coming off?! 🤣
Greg Berzinsky She doesn't mind it. I think although she prefers me with stubble she means it mostly in jest. I haven't touched it in 4 months but I do groom and oil it regularly using tips from yourself 😁 Stay cool Greg. 😎🖒
What a beautiful beautiful man! Thank you for sharing your beard wisdom! I do t have one personally but I am a huge fan and your videos allow me to help other men take pride in their appearance and therefore feel more confident and successful in life. And again, you’re quite possibly the most beautiful man on earth.
I once had a comment from a woman who said 'I bet you don't need a scarf when its this cold' we were in winter at the time. I responded with 'If you have a full head of hair and it's cold you will still put on a woolly hat to keep your head warm'. Never has my full thick beard ever stopped my face from getting cold, scarf's all the way. My beard is burly/lumberjack anyways. I also get asked quite a lot, how much would it cost for me to shave it off. My response is, enough to buy a house. Nobody has offered yet though.
True gent. Awesome beard sir. Being scottish I have a typical Scotsman wild beard. I tend to use quite a lot of heavy balm to keep it under control. Never had the nerve to allow someone else to trim it I just tidy the bottom a little.
Greg, you are my inspiration. I’m 3 months into my white corona beard & it’s on track to look like yours (fingers crossed). I have noticed that I can’t wear high collar clothes anymore; even hoodies are becoming a problem. It’s always good to hear of your experiences.
Stray hairs are a sign of your beard growing. If you cut one stray today, you'll cut another one tomorrow - then you'll get in the habit of "just cleaning up" and your beard will never lengthen.
I'm gonna take your advice on the not hedge trimming stray hairs. and as for myself, I wash my beard every day and rinse it off throughout the day, however that's more due to necessity, I'm pretty sure we have very contrasting careers.
Hello beard, Brother I’m new to the beard World and thank you so much you have given me hope in growing my beard now. I have happier now that you have my problem of patches. Thanks Let’s beard it up. 😊
This is my 1st yeard. After 4 months, I shaved my neck. Looked good, didn't like the way it felt, and won't do it again. I let my stache (which has always been thin) grow for over three months to see how long it would get. Won't do that again. Shaved the side under the ears. It was way out of control! Might do that again, but with summer approaching (in AZ where it gets up to 120), the last thing I want is sweat on shaved skin.
If you oil your beard regularly there's no need to wash it more than once a week (beard shampoo). I do work out almost every day and I don't shampoo my beard when I'm showering. Once a week is sufficient and good for your beard. Every other day? Too often if you ask me.
I’m getting to the stage where I won’t let a barber touch my beard. Most of them are utterly clueless! I cannot tell you how many times my beard and moustache have been ruined by barbers. It is so frustrating.
I've been keeping the bearded style since I was 16(11 years now) This is not something that I would never do, but never did so far is keeping the beard on January 1st, I always shave it out (only time during the year I actually shave it down to nothing) for a "fresh start", anyone else out there with the same superstition?
My beard grows slow and I get impatient. 1. I'm done doing any sort of trimming until all hair is below the neckline. 2. I'm not going to judge my beard until it's full. 3. I just trimmed a couple of strays because they went right into my nose, but from now on I'll work those strays down instead. I need as many hairs as I can get.
I don't wash my beard that often either, aside from it being bad for the beard it's just bloody annoying to keep drying it which can also damage it. I prefer to dry my beard first before going to bed, if that means I will be sleeping a hour later then so be it. I currently do trim stray hairs, but you making a valid point. I think I will rethink that one. I don't have any specific beard products, this mainly because there are none in my area so far I know of. Aside from that, I never knew there were any. A scarf is what i used to wear, even with beard. But now my beard is much longer it just doesn't sit nicely at all. So I rather skip the scarf entirely. Others touching my beard, well I don't really mind that at all.
I will never pull on my beard, some say it helps to pull on it then shave, but my beard isnt very dense and i need to prevent any strands from coming out!
I just went for my haircut and beard maintenance trim. Barber took the liberty to hedge trim my cheeks (I have a denser beard). Left pretty unsatisfied, I felt he took a good month away from my cheek growth. (I was pretty clear about keeping length all around). Anyways, it's fine, I have somewhat fast growth so it'll be back in about a month, but I'm going to make sure to be even more specific next time.
You ought to trim it by yourself buddy. From my 3 experiences with 1 cheap and 2 expensive barbers the expensive ones did a worse job than the cheaper one. Even telling them exactly what to do and showing pictures of desired looks. If you've watched enough cutting videos from beardbrand you must already have taken enough tips to cut on your own.
Sometimes, it's a painful lesson of Live and Learn. I know a ton of guys who will sit in the chair, and watch the barber do something that they didnt want, and they wont stop them.
cierto muy cierto hace una semana me paso lo mismo y estoy arrepentido, mira que mal quede estoy en quitarmela mejor por completo despues de cuatro meses..............
I've had an almost identical experience the last time you had your beard cut by a barber on the channel(as I remember). I told him "Yeah let's cut a little bit of lenght and tidy up on the sides" and suddenly I'm like "Now its short....AAAAAAAAAH"
Unfortunately I work outside on building site's installing fibre. Be it the rain/mud in winter and the dust from the summer,if I don't wash my beard every day it's not a pleasant site.
I colored mine early on, did not grow a beard until 43yo and now 51yo. You end up chasing color as it grows and it becomes overly apparent that you are coloring it. I now enjoy having a grey/white beard and accept my age and look. Dang I sure wish I had Greg's thick hair though.
Greg, WOW, Great look and style. I love the beard as much as I love you house. LOL Really a cylinder phonograph out of my 28 year collection would look awesome. The molding in you rooms would tie it all together. P.S. All the videos you guys at Beardbrand have been very useful and educational. I am all about that!
I use mayo in my beard to style and oil it. The Hair dryer melts in the mayo to give it shine, keep it soft, supple and manageable all day. Though I do find myself craving sandwichs Also,I will never put mayo in my beard trying to make a mustard and mayo dipping sauce.
Your admittance of “bald spots” in your beard has given me great confidence. Thank you.
my girlfriend hated my beard, she gave me an ultimatum:
Either the beard goes or she goes, I miss her sometimes....
Sounds like you made the right choice. 👍
Proud of you...
I agree with, Master, SHE made the right choice.
👏🏾
😂 Yep, beards come first
I like Greg's videos. Its refreshing to hear from an mature gentleman as opposed to a twenty-something. And he appears to be a class act.
Thanks. BB tries to make content that might appeal to the diverse group that are Urban Beardsmen.
"Urban Beardsmen" I like that group name. Did you create that? I'm guessing you're a marketing professional when not making beard and grooming videos.
That might be our fearless leader, Eric. He's a marketing genius .
@Dana White's double chin Well, he's 23, but his beard makes him look 30

Jeroen van Achterberg bruh mindblown. I trim down my stray hairs and end up fucking up my facial hair because of that. I end up having to shave because it starts to look uneven. So much to learn
I’m gonna use this advice to my advantage too
Jeroen van Achterberg use balm and eventually the “wild hair” will grow out and lay flat. 🤙
The #1 thing when growing a beard is to just let it grow. Lots of guys really hurt their progress by trimming it all the time.
1. Will not wash his beard everyday
2. Will not sleep with a wet beard
3. Will not trim and stray hairs, watch to see why!
4. Will not go without styling his beard, due to bald patches
5. Wont wear a scarf, makes it look weird.
Only one that I don't follow is #1, I have very sensitive skin and even after a single day of not washing my beard my upper lip starts to go red. A beard is just a Cape for the face :)
#1. Is that you not washing your face? What exactly does this mean
Sounds about right to me, I definitely don't go to bed with wet hair I wake up in the morning with a hell of a mess
When I look at your beard it just reminds me of Zeus. It's just glorious.
What a fantastic point about not trimming your stray hairs on the side. "A stray hair today, is not a stray hair tomorrow"..definitely understand what you mean when it comes to density. Keep on growing mate!
Just tuck them in....and move on.

Content on the channel that may help a self trim. Heres an idea. Ask your barber to trim your beard with scissors only.....watch them...and learn.
Greg Berzinsky thank you I appreciate the advice I’ll do that with my barber.
my friend literally just did that today...it was pretty short and done messed it up with clippers...if anything like shear work is okay

Try a hair straightener on your beard. You'll love it. It makes it so soft. It goes right back to normal when you rinse it.
I don't always use styling balm, but when I do, I prefer Tree Rangers.
You didn’t have to correct yourself when you said ‘young man’ Greg! You looks great for your age like any young man would haha 👍🏻
He looks 50+
Yeah as long as he keeps teenager's haircut, always look like he has smoke in his eyes, and dress decent he won't look 100% homeless
Unrealistic compliment but he is damn good looking
dont forget his botox
@@benashworth2278 where does he have botox?
When i was in my 20'ies, I'd spend an hour styling my hair and getting it just right, for yet another night working in kitchens. (had to look the part, working with food). In my late forties, baldness had set in, and it was a relief to give myself a number one on top every other week or so. Now I'm heading into beard territory, the first real beard in my life, but your attitude kind of puts me off a bit, never realised that blokes our age still suffered from vanity, or from insecurity of what others think. Sorry if that's perceived as being a harsh comment, It's not my intention to offend you. That's how you came across in this vid.
Love it brother! Let them ladies touch the beard! They've earned it!
I won't shave my beard off because my wife wants me to. 😁 it's her fault to start with, she told me to leave it after 1months stubble. I'm 4 months in and now she's asking when it's coming off?! 🤣
She may grow to love it.
Greg Berzinsky She doesn't mind it. I think although she prefers me with stubble she means it mostly in jest. I haven't touched it in 4 months but I do groom and oil it regularly using tips from yourself 😁 Stay cool Greg. 😎🖒
was you thinking about to change the wife model to a new one? 😂
Beard>woman!
Haha my wife is the opposite. Said she would leave me if i shaved it off
What a beautiful beautiful man!
Thanks Greg. Great information. I have been tempted to cut the strays and I am glad I haven't. Always great to see your videos!
Loving the longer hair on top Greg, looking good.
I liked the comparison of beards to snowflakes and clouds. Good reminder that everyone is different and not every beard will be the same.
I always find myself hedge trimming, and following your advice, i think im going to stop. and let the beard grow
thank you :)
Great Video!! Im adopting those 5 things!!!
Hello beard,
Brother I’m new to the beard World and thank you so much you have given me hope in growing my beard now. I have happier now that you have my problem of patches.
Thanks
Let’s beard it up. 😊
Was watching this an my 4 yo daughter says "is that Santa"? 😂😂😂🎅🎅🎅
So it was true all along...with that bonus tip
#mrstealyograndma
Dude Greg's not that old he's in his 50s
But grannies love him apparently😁😂
I set myself up for this one! lol
indeed rofl
Psh he's more like #mrstealyourgirlfriend
Superb beard my friend. Love the colors you got growing on. Very professional looking.
Wise point about the stray hairs.
Thanks for the list. Trail or Error for each of us when it comes to what we wont do. My son is in Tempe ASU--its 'HOT, but a dry heat'....PHEW
Great tips. Love that bold shirt/tie combo. Actually, in the Philly area today. Had my eyes pealed for a Berzinsky sighting!
I've been keeping the bearded style since I was 16(11 years now)
This is not something that I would never do, but never did so far is keeping the beard on January 1st, I always shave it out (only time during the year I actually shave it down to nothing) for a "fresh start", anyone else out there with the same superstition?
My beard grows slow and I get impatient.
1. I'm done doing any sort of trimming until all hair is below the neckline.
2. I'm not going to judge my beard until it's full.
3. I just trimmed a couple of strays because they went right into my nose, but from now on I'll work those strays down instead. I need as many hairs as I can get.
I don’t use regular soap to wash my beard. Always use beard shampoo and conditioner. I do use beard balm and oil
I use castor oil, extra virgin olive oil, and tea tree & jojoba oil for my beard. Amazing growth
Yea, I think ill be doing it myself from now on. Definitely been watching long enough to have a good idea of what to do and what look I want exactly.
I told him "Yeah let's cut a little bit of lenght and tidy up on the sides" and suddenly I'm like
"Now its short....AAAAAAAAAH"
Thanks for the number 3 tip. Thinking about it, my beard is probably medium textured at most too.
I fucking love this dude's beard.
Awesome inside scoop.
Unfortunately I work outside on building site's installing fibre. Be it the rain/mud in winter and the dust from the summer,if I don't wash my beard every day it's not a pleasant site.
The main thing i won’t do to my beard is dye or color... i let the grays show
I've been tempted to do this, but the roots grow so fast and you have to keep on it or it looks weird.
Amen!
the greys add style and character
I color Even when i do enough grey shows through to look good on me anyway. Try it once IF you are not already compleatly white.
I agree on the wet beard, but I do not go to bed without anything wet on me; it is bed for your body in general and the fibrac of your bed.
Though I do find myself craving sandwichs
Also,I will never put mayo in my beard trying to make a mustard and mayo dipping sauce.
