    Short and precise!! I was creating the Form backwards (First the Form, then trying to export responses into an Excel file, but it was a static file). I have no idea why Microsoft has to make it very complicated.

    Why can't I see "Forms for Excel" on my one drive? I can only see forms survey.

    Brent, can you roll over the form along with the excel file to reuse? For example if a survey is sent out every year, rather than creating from scratch every year, can you just rollover previous ones and then make updates to the questions for the current year?

    Thank you for this. All the googling couldn't give me a clear answer and it was actually an easy fix with your video. Google got to do better with this. Who wants a static excel response sheet anyways?!

    Brent - thanks for sharing this. It has helped me a ton! Is there any way to do something similar with a Quiz inside of Microsoft Forms? I cannot find a way and Quizes offer the benefit of grading

    This is super helpful for forms that I create in the future. Is there a way to convert a static form into a live form? And if there is a way to do that would I still be able to use the QR code that I originally created for the static form? Thanks!

      To my knowledge, unfortunately there isn't a way to convert a static form. :(

    Whether a quiz(form) can be created with this method? when i am creating this type of form, I am not getting an option for quiz

      I second this! Have not found a solution yet as to how to do this with a quiz - the scores are not populating unless I create a specific formula in the excel sheet that specifies which answers are worth which points; I want to use one standard workflow and change the quiz content each time, but not sure how to do that without having to update my excel sheet with the new answers each time.

    If you are editing the excel document that is populated manually, it breaks the link. is there a way around this? (not breaking the link to live?) We need to keep it live for others to view but another group also needs to be able to edit it as it populates.

    Can you advise how you can use formulas in the live data response ? It seems like it wont extract data
    EG. Trying to get the response in one column to appear in another column on the spreadsheet but the forumal poses as an error

    Brent, Great video and excellent information. I would like to know if you have either a Business or Education Account. I have contacted Microsoft about Forms with all the features. I particularly need to be able to upload files to the form I build. I tried the Web version, but that does not allow file uploads. I know you did cover detailed types of form elements. The Live feature is great, but I am curious what type of MS365 account you use.

    Question: how can I link 2 MS Forms surveys so thatbthe responses in one survey populate into the other survey?
    I created one free-text survey to collect brainstorming suggestions and another survey where users can vote on the best idea of the bunch. Is it possible to see responses in survey 1 populate live in survey 2 ?

    Would you be able to tell me why I don't have "Forms for Excel" option? I am logged into my Microsoft account, in my OneDrive, in "My Files", and I have created the (example) "Test Forms" folder but I can't seem to get the "Forms for Excel" in the drop down for NEW.

    Thanks Brent, this is super useful. Is it possible to edit the live excel (e.g add an extra column so you can put notes or comments against each response)? I have tried this by opening the live excel and adding a new column to the end but now new responses don't appear on the live excel. It seems like the link has been broken by editing the excel. Any help here or workaround would be much appreciated!

      I also need to know this. I want the data live from the form but after the form responses there is further data to add from additional sources for each candidate. what's the solution?

      @@hannagolingi7494 A quick thought regarding this. What if the extra columns in excel were created at the same time as the original form by adding a couple of extra fields on the form that were left empty at time when filled in (sort of "for office use only"). Then when reviewing the spreadsheet they would be fillable?

    This was very helpful, but I don't see the "Forms for Excel" option when I click new. Of the 8 options that display, 2 of them mention Excel. One is "Excel Workbook" and the other is "Excel Survey". I've tried creating a survey from Excel, but several users that were accessing the form have had issues submitting their response even though some have no problem at all. Am I not seeing "Forms for Excel" because I have a different version? Would one of the options that I mentioned work the same as the option you provided?

      Hey, Daniel! Not sure how to make the name/email go to the end, but I usually just hide those columns in the spreadsheet since it's information I typically don't need to see. That would be my suggestion. Hope that helps!

      Glad the video was helpful, Allyson! And yes, you can be notified when a new form entry is submitted. In the settings of the form, you can select the checkbox next to "Get email notification of each response" :)

      Unfortunately, I don't believe there's a way to convert a static form to one with live Excel results. :(

Amazing video ... v new to all this but some experimenting just now and it looks like if you MOVE a form in forms into a Group with a Sharepoint it becomes live...it also becomes shared so I guess be careful which share point you move to and who has access. It also disappears from the my forms list. I'll need to do some testing before I'm happy I can control it but seems useful.

    Brent, is this something you can allow others to see before they submit a response? I am trying to build a registration for volunteer shifts at an event and would like others to be able to see what is still open before they submit. Thanks.

      Hi, Shanna. No, I don't think this would be the tool to use for what you're trying to do. I would suggest using something like Microsoft Bookings.

    Hey Brent!!! Super useful information. Is there a way I can have one form and part wise submissions so that I can record dates part wise?
    Like I am creating a form as a checklist of a process with 3 phases. After each phase I want submissions to be done on certain dates. But to create 3 different forms would be difficult as per employee this will generate 3 forms.

      Hi, Chelsey. Unfortunately, I don’t believe there’s a way to convert a static form to a dynamic one. I wish there was as well. ;/

    Unfortunately it seems they've changed UI and I don't see the option for "Forms for Excel" option any more. I"m still shocked in 2024 this isn't default to send to live excel.

      In your OneDrive, click on the down-arrow to the right-hand side of the "+ New" button. One of the choices in the dropdown will be "Forms for Excel." :)

      Unfortunately, to my knowledge, that is correct. A static form can't be converted to a dynamic one once it's already been created. :(

    Creating a new 'Forms for Excel' opens in Excel, not in MS Forms. why?

      The spreadsheet attached to the form opens in Excel, but the form itself can be found in "Forms" in your OneDrive.

      To my knowledge, there isn't a way to connect a previously created form to a live Excel document. I believe you need to start by creating the form in OneDrive at "New > "Forms for Excel."

      When I created a new form in onedrive, it gave me suggested questions (from the static form I've created), I simply selected all question and added them.

    How do you get back to the form from the excel file if you closed it unintentionally?

      I found it on another video. I had to click on insert on the excel sheet and click on form in order to get back to the form to use and click edit. Thanks for the quick response!

    Hi, really thanks fr this, I m actually using this to collect data for a tracker between different people, is there a way in which once a user has submitted the data using the forms, can go back and edit the data entered, I really need this, cn u plz help out

      If you grant the user access to the spreadsheet, the user could then go into the spreadsheet and edit the data entered. I’ve done this before - sent a team the form to collect their data but also given them access to the responses spreadsheet so they could go in and fix any mistakes they made. Hope this helps!

      @@monikachauhan2674 Click the "Share" button in the upper right-hand corner of the spreadsheet. Then you can enter the email address of the person you'd like to share the spreadsheet with. :)

      Not to my knowledge. I believe you have to begin by creating the form using the "New" > "Forms for Excel"
