An engineer once told me that a 2x6 is twice as strong as a 2x4 ( standing up edge way) a 2x8 is twice as strong as a 2x6 and so on. The are code books that tell you what size to use on the opening of a room. Have fun and stay safe!
It really is a joy to watch you two young people work together. I’m not a fisherman and so I’m not going to enter but thanks just the same. Can’t wait for your next fishing video as well.
She's looking good Tyler. Pretty soon the cat will have a great place to hang out with the horse. 😂😂 The sawmill is looking like it needs a little cleaning. Keep on sawing. 👍👍
Miss Brittany looking great as usual, I love the way you hook in and get it done share the work 👍 I do everything the Spanish way Manuel 🤔 great job you two
Several years ago, my neighbor had a couple guys doing some low impact logging of some big white pine with a team of horses, very interesting to watch. Those horses would back right up to a log to hitch up.
Tyler my daddy had a matched pair of Belgin draft horses. They were Giants. When he got too old to ride, he had his mules and draft horses to keep him entertained. he loved taking the grand kids for a ride in his covered wagon. Good luck finding a pair.
Hey guys, love the channel. Thanks for great content and great scenery. As a (homemade ) bandsaw mill owner, I cut beetle kill pines and cedar. My only question for you is, why do you leave the broken dead bark on your logs. I've found that in my small operation, I get better blade life and easier handling bald logs. Keep up the great work and stay safe working on your new barn. Hope both of you have a awesome week!
I love watching Wallace Farm and Sawmill videos, always very interesting to me. I especially like the sawing videos, which is most of them. You need a board you just go make it. Man I love that!! My giveaway number is 463, thanks for sharing with all of us. Jay from Pa.
Nice progress on the build 👍 I think it is exciting getting back into horses. I'm not a "horse guy" per say but my family has a history of horsemanship. Locally there is a guy that has a team that skids logs out that makes incredible money because his horses cause less damage than a skidder and can work in conditions/weather that a modern machine can't.
Cool video. 👍👍👍 on the barn build and the future equestrian enjoyment. Your 2x12s looked great. Can’t beat the tractor forks around the farm and saw mill.
That is an awesome video and is gonna be the best barn around very proud of you guys love you you guys so much take care god bless thank you for sharing ❤❤❤❤
The barn is looking good and strong. Number 318 - I'll take that bait to Sardis, Enid, Leroy Percy State Park Lake or even the mighty Missipp and see what I could catch. Stay safe.
Barn looks great so far!! Once I get my sawmill setup I also need to build something similar so I'll def be getting some tips from you guys! Keep it up!
If you post to Australia I’ll go with 181🙂 but I’ll understand if you don’t/won’t🙂 Ps love the content🙂 you’ve given me ideas for a forge shed build but I’ll be buying timber as I don’t have a mill😬
The strength of a beam is directly proportional to its width, and the square of its height. So if you double the height of a beam the bending strength goes up 4 times. If you double the width it only goes up 2 times. However if it gets to tall vs the width it can buckle. Suggest putting blocking in between beams to prevent that. Its also better to have knots close to the center of the beam vs at the top or bottom. If you need to dril holes in the beams, drill them close to the center not at the top or bottom. Simpson strong tie Co. makes numerous galvanized fittings for joining wood joists etc. Curious do you get much twisting and bending of wood after it is cut from the log.
Guys, glad I came across your channel . enjoy watching good down home folks work and fish every now and then.As a Texas boy who spent some time at Keesler AFB , what part of the state are you guys in ? I say # 579.
you going to put a row of bridging (X bracing)down the center of the joist, and nailsblocks between the headers to keep the joist from twisting/rolling ? AH just heard you say you are doing that. I spoke to soon, sorry.............. 109

The barn looks great! Cutting your own lumber saves a lot of money.
Love seeing the footage of the woman and cat interaction. The cat seems really lovable (I am not a cat lady).
It really is a joy to watch you two young people work together. I’m not a fisherman and so I’m not going to enter but thanks just the same. Can’t wait for your next fishing video as well.

Nice 2x12 lumber . Hi guys ! Hope to see all your bolting , blocking and bracing in place along with the metal in place ! God bless !

That’s awesome! We follow a couple people over on Facebook that have a horse logging group! Thanks for watching along!
I love watching what you are doing, both with the barn and with the sawmill. I lucky number is 114
By some of the comments you would think some people are building inspectors instead of watching you guys build a barn on a farm. Looking good.
Ha ha yes! Everyone thinks they know best I suppose.
567is my guess thank you xxxx
Consider putting hurricane rafter ties on those joists. Inexpensive and adds protection against wind damage.
Cool video. 👍👍👍 on the barn build and the future equestrian enjoyment. Your 2x12s looked great. Can’t beat the tractor forks around the farm and saw mill.

Depends on the log. Quality log usually doesn't bend/bow nearly as much!
