Great upload Ed, very good photography and great clear, concise, educational commentary. Please keep the uploads on the SL bulkhead repair coming. I’ve got an old SL that I want to repair the bulkhead, just need a guide on dash removal etc. thanks again

Thanks for that. I’ve had to delay doing the bulkhead a bit while I work on the front of the car, but hopefully will circle back to it in a month or so. For dash removal, ‘Mikes Mercs’ I think covers this (great channel if you haven’t found it already!)

When did Mercedes’ start welding ja jacking tube to the outer sill? I also have a w111 coupe which has the same construction but the service manual clearly states that the tube should be free from the outer sill . It seems that they have abandoned that construction at some point

Not sure, it may be related to the outer sills being considered structural on the convertible.

@@classiced1416 All the W110,W111 ,112 108 and 109 all have the jack point separate from the sill panels with a gap around the tube .From the late 1950's onwards, Daimler knew there was a problem with water getting in and the repair bulletins describe how to repair the jack points by cutting the outer sill open, bending it back ,cutting the jack point out out then welding in a new one. The outsill panel could be bent back and welded up with lead being used to finish off the appearance .From what i understand, the gap was to allow water out especially on Cabrios and Sun Roof carsnwhich drained rain water down on to the sill top. It didn't work of coarse.I have lost count of the number I have reapired. They are still available too.
