  • This is a very common problem due to the age of the plastic bushings on each end of the automatic transmission shift rod. Link to repair kit as shown here: mercedessource... Link to my full playlist on R107 restoration and repair: • Classic SL R107 Rollin...

    This video was exactly what I needed. I ordered the tool and parts and my shifter works like new. The bushings could not have been installed without his tool. Thanks so much!

    This is one of your BEST videos. Everything you showed is 100% valuable! I just did my 300TD wagon and my 300CD. Taking the linkage out is absolutely the ONLY way to do the bushings AND the warning to make sure you notice on what side the rod goes back into the bushing is valuable too. Again, excellent clear instruction!

    Have a 560 sl (in fact 4 w107), had no more plastic bushings, watched the video, get sceptic about real utility of tools but order them with bushings. Just did the 2 in less than 30 mn no pbl, a real pleasure. Without the tools, maybe doable...but have to admit I have no idea how. Money very well spent !!! Thanks kent ... and so glad with your new 560 sl repair series Just love them

    My 73 450SLC had both missing bushings. I got the nylon bushings and really struggled to replace them until I got the tool...

    Will it be the same process for W124?

      Yes - the same bushings are used on similar style levers. Access of course will be different.

    I bought this from you but the bushings are solid plastic not nylon or whatever is in this video and the bushings are literally impossible to get in. Even with the tool. Are these the right bushings ?

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are the correct bushings. Make sure your holes are clean and not rusty. Sand the edges smooth on the metal. Did you use the grease supplied? You can also heat up the bushings in hot water to soften them if it is cold.

    You mention that when the bushings are broken...that is a "dangerous situation"...Is that because the transmission can jump out of gear?...for example...jump out of park into drive or reverse?

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most common issue ismthe transmission will not go fully in park and can slip out. I have seen a couple of wrecks where the Mercedes rolled down an incline and smashed into something.

      You did not say the make and model of your car, but you can easily find this information in your owner's manual or by doing a web search. Plenty of info our there on every car.
