For me when you finish the game and want to do what should be the "true ending", something is left to chance, no one wonders how the protagonist has new powers, only one character wonders how you found the sword, no one wonders where certain powers come from, it was enough to give two half-explanations :|
Hero > dispel darkness with sword Veronica > channel anger Veronica > magic burst Any other party member > elfin elixer veronica Sylvando > ladies first veronica. Win
This doesnt work because magic burst only deals triple the mp it consumed. At best, you can have serena come in and do mighty magic burst pep power, for 6000 damage, but the boss still has more than that. Erik did over 13000 damage in this video. That's 4 magic bursts from veronica solo. I think youd only need 3 to kill him though.
@@steveh1474 a late reply but, use venorica method is the most non-rng way to kill the boss. You might have trouble using the method shown in video if you failed to poison the boss in first turn and mess up the sequences, since divide only stay for 1 round.
Took me 3 tries... I screwed up my line up on my first one and just let him kill all of them, second one I almost had it but a few bad moves screwed everything up, third one absolutely nothing went wrong and was probably done in 5-10 minutes max

Exactly what happened with me yesterday. I levelled everyone up by like 15-20 levels, upgraded their gear, and powered through it until he finally died. Took 20-30 minutes.
Haha yes! satisfying to think about it!! though gotta admit, without guide, I couldnt have created an accessory for the ailments and other missions to boost the party stats. good thing I didnt know about the trick for the aura beforehand, never bothered with ultimate weapons and armor either, just the accessory and good ol level grind
I spend three month with all the draconian quest on to figure out what to do AND I COULD DISPEL THE AURA IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH EASIER TO DO SO I AM PISSED... at least my game is 102% completed
I was incredibly fortunate, I think. Basically made poor Hendrik eat every strike Calasmos sent while Erik or the Luminary beat the socks outta Calasmos in the mean time XD Is it a cheating tactic? Sure but it worked great, and the dude went down within 15 minutes on the first run. Then I found out in my second run that I coulda used the fecking sword to take down his barrier….
This fight was pretty straightforward for me, just dispel the darkness, use Veronica's concentrate anger and magic burst, use elfin elixers on her, and use Erik's Divide and Fatal Flash. Omniheal with Hero when needed.

This is what I love about this final boss, you can defeat him the Canon way, or you can do it without the Sword of Light if you think you're up for the challenge.
I beat the game for the second time today, this time i used the sword and it completely remove the challenge. The first time i considered Kalasmos like a real end boss but this time he took 8 or 9 turns without barely any dead, it may be long but i highly recommend to do it without the sword tbh
Nice method. My characters were a lot weaker, still managed to defeat him in two turns. I started the fight with everyone pepped up. Hero uses the sword of light to get rid of his aura. Then, Serena and Veronika use their pep ability that uses all mp. That took like half of his hp. Then, I swapped them out for Hendrik and Jade, and used a pep ability with all four characters involved (don't know the name, because I played in German). Erik used divide. End of turn 1. The second turn, I used my strongest abilities and by the end of the turn, he was dead. By the way, the watchers tell you to use the sword to get rid of his aura in the labyrinth if you read carefully.
I was thinking about trying this, then saw that Erik's attack is maxed out at 999. How many seeds of strength did that take? I don't have the time or patience to get that many.
I'm still finishing the last things for to obtain the Platinum (Luminary's trial, last wheel of harma's trial, leveling up the last 4 characters, all the costumes) before fighting this Cell/Jiren fusion... But seriously the true Final boss isn't immune to poison? A being called the Dark One?
I mean, i am thankfull. Every other boss im every rpg is almost all status resistant and its so boring. Having 20 different status spells that are made for long fights, just for the boss to be inmune, its just bad
Thank god for Kerplunk, that shit is OP. I had no idea this method existed but I just kept using Kerplunk on Serena and Hendrik to resurrect my standby party and the battle just went on until I won.
Ikr, I just beat him today and it was only thanks to Erik's divide and critical claim, then I see this video straight after and just feel bad about myself
I bought a bunch of elvin elixirs, yggdrasil something(fully restores hp to the party), and some pep pips. Then I kept refilling serena and veronica with the elixirs and pep pips while spamming the magic burst pep power. I barely had enough to beat him. I wish I knew the sword of light could dispel that aura before fighting him.

I found him hitting less hard than the fourth and fifth bosses of Drustan's trials. For me, Cobra Strike + Sap + Divide + Victimizer and Channel Anger + Magic Burst did the trick. Easy final boss. But a great game nonetheless, easily one of the top JRPG I played!

I read through some of the comments and saw common questions. Having just beaten the game myself, I can tell some of you confused viewers what’s going on. First of all, there’s a watcher in Drustan’s Labyrinth who tells you that you can use the Super Sword of Light (NOT THE SUPREME ONE) to dispel Calasmos’s dark aura. That means use it as an ITEM, not attacking Calasmos with it. It is possible to beat him with the dark aura still active but considerably more difficult. I did this as a challenge and it’s quite fun. Second of all, this player has beefed up Erik’s attack significantly with seeds of strength (not to 999, but it's not his natural lvl 99 stat I can say that much). Otherwise, it’s just the use of the broken attack multiplier of victimizer. Edit: if you're playing on Draconian quest victimizer is still broken lol
Nah this isnt all true. Daggers are still the best damage dealer even on draconian mode, and this erik doesnt have 999 strength. He could hit for over 20k if he did. He only did 13k in this video.
@@steveh1474 Thanks for the correction - I got invested in playing Dragon Quest IX on the DS again so I never got far in Draconian to really test out the daggers, just had read elsewhere that they're weaker but guess ya can't trust everything you read! Although I never said his strength was 999, just beefed up.
Thank you very much for this video I wasn't able to 100% replicate what you had for equipment but I was still able to win, my younger brother with down syndrome is very grateful.
Zoma from DQ 3 was the first Final Boss that had the shroud thing. (That game never tells you that certain enemies regen health every turn, so chipping away at Zoma while keeping healed won't cut it, also he has 255 agility while shrouded, so there is no guarantee you will go first, and he can freezer beam + breath, and then two breaths before you get a chance to Barrier/Increase or w/e). I'm mentioning this because the final boss music is Zoma's.
I had no idea you could use the sword of light like that. I spent so much time fighting him and finally beat him on my second try. It was definitely fun, though. I'll have to try to beat him like that on my next try.
@@dukenukem7043I did it on my second try also with almost no op weapons. You just need to use a strategy of switching out to dodge certain attacks and using kerplunk to bring everyone back. Its a cheesey strat but worked fine
@@dukenukem7043 I did it on my first try today, but it took soo long to finish. had to keep healing and reviving with alternately with the hero and serena. the constant debuffs we annoying. probably took me 30-50 minutes to finish him lol. made the god rings to prevent debuffs to try again and beat him another time and definitely got easier. but after watching this video and finding out you can use the light sword like this, it just became easy mode.
Oh my goodness. When I beat him the first time in the 3D mode, I took over 50 minutes and I died like 4 times (And I was level 92). Now that I am in the 2D mode, tried this and iy also worked for the 2D mode, it was actually a bit harder but man, if I had known you could use the Sword of Light like that... How are you supposed to figure that out?? Nobody ever hints something like that in the game!! D':
I did things the hard way... Lol! I knew you could use the sword of light as an item but I didn’t think it did things THAT important! That’s amazing! I grinded to level 99 just to whip Calasmos without using that sword of light. Your Brilliant Blade is something I didn’t have that but I just had both sword of lights equipped and two handed him using Gigagash all day. I didn’t have time shear for Erik or even the full set for Veronica. Serena was always with me and Hendrik. I just beat this game today on the Switch. Amazing video.
I remember when I first faced Calasmos. I didn't know you could dispel his dark barrier, so I just powered through his fight by spamming Divided Victimizer on him over and over. Then I accidentally used Super Sword of Light on him and found out he has an easy mode.
I just want to say Calasmos looks like Jiren and Cell did the Fusion Dance and were shot with the Expansion ray from, "Honey, I Blew Up the Baby!" Damn I'm old
I didn't even know you could do the sword of light thing and make the fight 30x easier and beaten him normally my first playthrough, max lvl, near ultimate gear, and still struggled. Then after I found out I used the sword of light method and beat him in 30 seconds...like what the hell lmao
You don't have to. You use the hallelujah pep with another pep that gives you metal slimes instead of the monsters your fighting. I found a rare metal hand monster that gave 30,000 exp by itself. Used the first pep to multiply that exp. Kill that hand. Then use the other pep to instantly spawn like 4 more metal slimes including a king metal slime. I almost got a million exp. I'm not even kidding. If you do it just right, you'll get there real quick. The thing is the prep time to get those pep pills and patience to find that rare metal slime hand. Good luck. It was more about the journey then the destination.
I didn't know you could do that with the super sword of light! ...i guess I'm going to stop watching the video, put it off for even longer, and fight him again. ._.
I thought this boss was surprisingly difficult considering I had my party lvl 99 with the best weapons in the game at +3... I didn't have any items to spam Veronica's magic explosion. Basically had to perfectly manage my party tanking the fireballs and darkness spell with hero's immunity ability. It took almost 30 minutes.
Since you’re max level, if you try dual wielding boomerangs and using divide > double down. You will probably one shot all three targets. You may have to give him some seeds

There's a problem with my game, I can't have the ultimate sword even though I have collected every single thing it needs to be made, it's still written "you haven't collected all of the necessary items".... I already defeated kalasmos 4 times but I'm still frustrated.... I WANTED TO GET THAT SWORD !
NOTE: Here it is how I think it was done!!! (Correct me if I am partially wrong): ROUND ONE: 1-Veronica casts "Sap"! (on Calasmos main body!!) 2-Sylvando becomes pepped up! (In my run through, all were already pepped up from the get-go!!) 3-Sylvando uses "Cobra Strike"! 4-Erik uses "Divide"! (Calasmos does his thing....) 5-Hero holds "Super Sword of Light" aloft! (He wasn't equipped with "Super Sword of Light" in the presentation after the battle?? ATTENTION: it seems that he was equipped with "Brilliant Blade+3" but he just uses the "Super Sword of Light" like an item!!!) 6-Hero casts "Omniheal"! (Can Hero have 2 turns--steps 5-6 above--??!!) ROUND TWO: 7-Veronica casts "Oomphle"!! (on Erik twice in a row?) 8-Erik & his doppelgangers use "Victimiser"!! (Victimiser used on Calasmos main body...) (His attack causes between 700+ and 400+ damages??!!) 9-Sylvando just attack Calasmos! (Calasmos takes a total of 391 points of damage!!!) ... CALASMOS IS DEFEATED!!!!

All im gonna say is good job paying attention bro, There are so many references speaking of using the sword to expel the darkness, but I think most of us assumed it meaning using it as a weapon and not an item. The seeds in this game are im my opinion an exploit or easter egg depending on the point of view so unsure if a higher strength makes a huge difference or no. I can sell the devildrinker shields (steal from hooladuper) for 30000, make a million in about 20 minutes and buy 5 peppops in Cobblestone for 200,000 (after fixing the town) and spam hallelujah on Corpse Corporals in Champs Sauvage... Got half my characters to 999 HP in like 2-3 days... but even then didn't make the battle "easier" , still wasn't close to getting this guy down in 2 turns!!
so after 124 hours playtime, and about 9 attempts where I only beat him through a series of buffed up Eric and Veronica crit casting, I finally kill the ugly bugger and get the platinum. Now imagine my horror when I load up youtube to see if anyone else struggled and find out you can cheap him...

Short questions, I beat Calasmos and after beating him the credits roll and I am in the menu agin. Can you kill him and still play along. Or am I just stupid and missing smoething here ? Because there is still a side quest I cant do because it tells my I cant do it right now. Or will this quest unlock after delivering a certain amount of minimedals. Thanks for any help c:
yeah that was it. But still cant you safe after the last boss ? or is the fight just there to complete the game for good ? because in DQ 9 you could continue playing after the last boss

I managed to beat him at like 59. Its hard, but not impossible, as long as you use the sword to remove the shroud of darkness. Otherwise, I heard he's almost impossible. But the game hints to do it. It says he's infused with some sort of dark aura if you keep hitting him, and the SSoL says that it dispels auras if used as an item. My plan to win was Hendricks using forbearance, MC and sylvando hitting with hardest attacks whenever they can, with serena healing the party, and hitting with her damage skill when she's not needed. Sylv would heal when needed through hustle dance, and I swapped put the party for the backups, if I didnt deal enough damage for him to drop the spirit bomb when he did that.
Is it better to use a one handed sword like dual wielding falcon blades for the Hero or a 2handed greatsword which i see a lot of people use in these videos?
Well i'm using two falcon blades right now for the Hero and i do a lot of damage with them since they can attack twice so that is 4 hits in total but they also have very low attack which is like 45 compared to the swords that i can get right now which is 90 or something i forgot lol. I see everyone using the Brilliant Blade greatsword even after they get to post game, it might have some effects that are very good that i dont know about right now. I only have the 3rd wheel of Harma finished and the 4th and 5th havent been unlocked yet.
The wheel of Harma is unlocked from the moment you get to it. You can do all 5 trials in one sitting. You just need to finish the previous trial to get the next one.
For me, it took me two tries to defeat Calasmos without me knowing that you could dispel his dark aura with the sword of light. I would say that I feel stupid for knowing this now, but I feel more relieved that it only took me two tries in a span of an hour lol 😂.
Oh man I did not realize you could do this . He massacred me the first time, second time I used yggdrasil blessing pep power which made it much easier though he was still tough.

When I had him in the red and he healed 999 I almost put my fist thru the screen

999 is nothing when you do at least 4k by turn and it's pretty low lol
if he heals, just use divide with erik, then critical claim, it immediately takes 1500 health away

The double spells did nothing because you can't be buffed/debuffed by more than 2x.

Nothing in my fight worked this way 😂 Sylvando missed poisoning him three times and nearly got my whole active party wiped out in the process

I bought a bunch of elvin elixirs, yggdrasil something(fully restores hp to the party), and some pep pips. Then I kept refilling serena and veronica with the elixirs and pep pips while spamming the magic burst pep power. I barely had enough to beat him. I wish I knew the sword of light could dispel that aura before fighting him.
The sword of light is supposed to dispel it. But it doesn't do SHIT.

I found him hitting less hard than the fourth and fifth bosses of Drustan's trials. For me, Cobra Strike + Sap + Divide + Victimizer and Channel Anger + Magic Burst did the trick. Easy final boss. But a great game nonetheless, easily one of the top JRPG I played!

I read through some of the comments and saw common questions. Having just beaten the game myself, I can tell some of you confused viewers what’s going on.
First of all, there’s a watcher in Drustan’s Labyrinth who tells you that you can use the Super Sword of Light (NOT THE SUPREME ONE) to dispel Calasmos’s dark aura. That means use it as an ITEM, not attacking Calasmos with it. It is possible to beat him with the dark aura still active but considerably more difficult. I did this as a challenge and it’s quite fun.
Second of all, this player has beefed up Erik’s attack significantly with seeds of strength (not to 999, but it's not his natural lvl 99 stat I can say that much). Otherwise, it’s just the use of the broken attack multiplier of victimizer. Edit: if you're playing on Draconian quest victimizer is still broken lol
Nah this isnt all true. Daggers are still the best damage dealer even on draconian mode, and this erik doesnt have 999 strength. He could hit for over 20k if he did. He only did 13k in this video.
@@steveh1474 Thanks for the correction - I got invested in playing Dragon Quest IX on the DS again so I never got far in Draconian to really test out the daggers, just had read elsewhere that they're weaker but guess ya can't trust everything you read! Although I never said his strength was 999, just beefed up.

i swear i killed him by brute force. no super sword of light. with his shroud on. realy realy hard
Zoma from DQ 3 was the first Final Boss that had the shroud thing. (That game never tells you that certain enemies regen health every turn, so chipping away at Zoma while keeping healed won't cut it, also he has 255 agility while shrouded, so there is no guarantee you will go first, and he can freezer beam + breath, and then two breaths before you get a chance to Barrier/Increase or w/e).
I'm mentioning this because the final boss music is Zoma's.
Hendrik is the real victim here the many times he had to die bc we didnt know this was possible

My only complaint about this game is that there's not a new game plus feature for after you beat it the 1st time.

I had no idea you could use the sword of light like that. I spent so much time fighting him and finally beat him on my second try. It was definitely fun, though. I'll have to try to beat him like that on my next try.
i highly doubt u did it in 2 tries without his aura . u have to shave the perfect strategy in order to do that
@@dukenukem7043I did it on my second try also with almost no op weapons. You just need to use a strategy of switching out to dodge certain attacks and using kerplunk to bring everyone back. Its a cheesey strat but worked fine
@@dukenukem7043 I did it on my first try today, but it took soo long to finish. had to keep healing and reviving with alternately with the hero and serena. the constant debuffs we annoying. probably took me 30-50 minutes to finish him lol. made the god rings to prevent debuffs to try again and beat him another time and definitely got easier. but after watching this video and finding out you can use the light sword like this, it just became easy mode.
Oh my goodness. When I beat him the first time in the 3D mode, I took over 50 minutes and I died like 4 times (And I was level 92).
Now that I am in the 2D mode, tried this and iy also worked for the 2D mode, it was actually a bit harder but man, if I had known you could use the Sword of Light like that... How are you supposed to figure that out?? Nobody ever hints something like that in the game!! D':
Talk to the watchers in game, they tell you to use the sword of light in battle.

I did things the hard way... Lol! I knew you could use the sword of light as an item but I didn’t think it did things THAT important! That’s amazing! I grinded to level 99 just to whip Calasmos without using that sword of light.
Your Brilliant Blade is something I didn’t have that but I just had both sword of lights equipped and two handed him using Gigagash all day. I didn’t have time shear for Erik or even the full set for Veronica. Serena was always with me and Hendrik. I just beat this game today on the Switch. Amazing video.
I remember when I first faced Calasmos. I didn't know you could dispel his dark barrier, so I just powered through his fight by spamming Divided Victimizer on him over and over.
Then I accidentally used Super Sword of Light on him and found out he has an easy mode.

I should have known. Reminds me of Zoma in Dragon Warrior 3 (GBC). He was virtually impossible to beat unless you use the Light Orb.
The boss fight is somewhat of a tribute to Zoma. I mean, there's his leitmotif playing when you use the sword.

You don't have to. You use the hallelujah pep with another pep that gives you metal slimes instead of the monsters your fighting. I found a rare metal hand monster that gave 30,000 exp by itself. Used the first pep to multiply that exp. Kill that hand. Then use the other pep to instantly spawn like 4 more metal slimes including a king metal slime. I almost got a million exp. I'm not even kidding. If you do it just right, you'll get there real quick. The thing is the prep time to get those pep pills and patience to find that rare metal slime hand. Good luck. It was more about the journey then the destination.

I thought this boss was surprisingly difficult considering I had my party lvl 99 with the best weapons in the game at +3... I didn't have any items to spam Veronica's magic explosion. Basically had to perfectly manage my party tanking the fireballs and darkness spell with hero's immunity ability. It took almost 30 minutes.
Since you’re max level, if you try dual wielding boomerangs and using divide > double down. You will probably one shot all three targets. You may have to give him some seeds

There's a problem with my game, I can't have the ultimate sword even though I have collected every single thing it needs to be made, it's still written "you haven't collected all of the necessary items".... I already defeated kalasmos 4 times but I'm still frustrated.... I WANTED TO GET THAT SWORD !

All im gonna say is good job paying attention bro, There are so many references speaking of using the sword to expel the darkness, but I think most of us assumed it meaning using it as a weapon and not an item. The seeds in this game are im my opinion an exploit or easter egg depending on the point of view so unsure if a higher strength makes a huge difference or no. I can sell the devildrinker shields (steal from hooladuper) for 30000, make a million in about 20 minutes and buy 5 peppops in Cobblestone for 200,000 (after fixing the town) and spam hallelujah on Corpse Corporals in Champs Sauvage... Got half my characters to 999 HP in like 2-3 days... but even then didn't make the battle "easier" , still wasn't close to getting this guy down in 2 turns!!

so after 124 hours playtime, and about 9 attempts where I only beat him through a series of buffed up Eric and Veronica crit casting, I finally kill the ugly bugger and get the platinum. Now imagine my horror when I load up youtube to see if anyone else struggled and find out you can cheap him...

Short questions, I beat Calasmos and after beating him the credits roll and I am in the menu agin. Can you kill him and still play along. Or am I just stupid and missing smoething here ? Because there is still a side quest I cant do because it tells my I cant do it right now. Or will this quest unlock after delivering a certain amount of minimedals. Thanks for any help c:

HOW can you beat this boss even if the party as maxed out?!
I managed to beat him at like 59. Its hard, but not impossible, as long as you use the sword to remove the shroud of darkness. Otherwise, I heard he's almost impossible. But the game hints to do it. It says he's infused with some sort of dark aura if you keep hitting him, and the SSoL says that it dispels auras if used as an item. My plan to win was Hendricks using forbearance, MC and sylvando hitting with hardest attacks whenever they can, with serena healing the party, and hitting with her damage skill when she's not needed. Sylv would heal when needed through hustle dance, and I swapped put the party for the backups, if I didnt deal enough damage for him to drop the spirit bomb when he did that.

Is it better to use a one handed sword like dual wielding falcon blades for the Hero or a 2handed greatsword which i see a lot of people use in these videos?
Greatsword is better until you get to post game and get the best single handed swords.
Well i'm using two falcon blades right now for the Hero and i do a lot of damage with them since they can attack twice so that is 4 hits in total but they also have very low attack which is like 45 compared to the swords that i can get right now which is 90 or something i forgot lol. I see everyone using the Brilliant Blade greatsword even after they get to post game, it might have some effects that are very good that i dont know about right now. I only have the 3rd wheel of Harma finished and the 4th and 5th havent been unlocked yet.
The wheel of Harma is unlocked from the moment you get to it. You can do all 5 trials in one sitting. You just need to finish the previous trial to get the next one.
For me, it took me two tries to defeat Calasmos without me knowing that you could dispel his dark aura with the sword of light. I would say that I feel stupid for knowing this now, but I feel more relieved that it only took me two tries in a span of an hour lol 😂.
Oh man I did not realize you could do this . He massacred me the first time, second time I used yggdrasil blessing pep power which made it much easier though he was still tough.
