I love how this new truck looks and I am wondering about how it tows. Most charging stations are not open up enough to charge with a boat/trailer/ or whatever you are towing attached to it. Would you need to drop your cargo and then go to the charging station? I only ask because many of the charging stations that I have seen on the road are aligned against a curb. What do you or others think about this?
They have tested the work truck version towing. It's not a perfect experience to try to fast charge on the road. Almost any stop they've ever made they've needed to uncouple a trailer in order to be able to charge. With the lightning they could sometimes pull in head first to a charger because the charging ports at the front but your trailer is going to hang out into the traffic lane and block other people from getting to the chargers easily. With the Silverados port being at the back you basically need to decouple and back in.
Great video Andre and TFL crew. Very informative and entertaining. I absolutely love this truck. This is a proper EV truck that can still do truck stuff. My all time favorite feature is the mid gate. I’m familiar with it, being I used to own a 2004 Avalanche and I constantly used the mid gate. So glad Chevrolet brought back this useful and fun feature. Definitely worth buying it and I hope to own one someday. Great job, Chevrolet.
I just love your reviews! I hope Chevy does a combination of the Work truck and RST. I dont need the sporty performance but love the midgate and range, but could go for a lower price and smaller wheels. That midgate could really open up some interesting camping set up options in the back.
Great review as always. The Trailboss version of this EV is going to be the on to get imo. 24s are nuts apart from show trucks. Even for the RST I would downsize to a 20" if it would clear the brakes. I delayed my Cybertruck order to see how this EV was reviewed and also to see what the Rivian R1T refresh was like. All that said EV trucks are coming in waves and pushing the bar up for specs, range, and features. If they can get beyond the glam 100+K models they could see mass adoption. They also need to ramp up production so we can actually get one at MSRP and not have to wait 16 mos. Apart from Telsa all these trucks are money losers which results in the mfr trickling out trucks to minimize their losses. For me I have a lifted 23' Tundra 1794 hybrid and its a great truck but huge. Since I off road I have been debating what to do netx. Keep building it up until it gets 11 mpg or going electric. :) I do hope the Trailboss or imagine EV ZR2 has the ability to raise the ride height lie the Rivian or Hummer EV. The weight does worry me though no matter what the suspension can do. Lots to consider.
Thanks for the great review, Andre! Somehow you were able to address the positives and negatives fairly without turning this into a complete hit piece like some other auto "journalists" decided to do.
I can't get over the 1400lb payload... not sure what chevy was thinking with that one... Still think this truck is an upgrade from the lightning, but can't wait to see what the Ram Rev offers... 2700lb payload!
Again, no one doubts EVs can tow well, it’s just annoying to tow anything when your range is effectively 100 miles and it takes 30+ min to recharge while likely having to disconnect and reconnect your trailer to do so.
Didn't you watch the video? TFL measured over 500 miles on the 4WT (RST is lower with those 24"), with trailer ranger loss that's well over 3 hours of driving. Charging 20%-80% is measured at around 40ish minutes, after three hours don't you want a restroom, stretch and snack break anyhow? ICE drivers take about that much anyhow after they gas up, repark, and take care of amenities. This is a fully practical truck, however your point about trailer friendly charge stalls is well taken. They're coming in now with the Ultium NEVI network however.
@@Gnosticware correct, but this is the first of any EV to be able to pull off this feat. Everything before it from Rivian to Ford to Tesla etc. gets 100 miles of range while towing. All well and good for this Chevy apart from the fact a base WT trim costs $75k and goes up to $115k for a fully loaded one. The lightning and Rivian top out at $100k. Fine if you can afford it, but you’re definitely paying $15-20k more for that extra range.
@@Gnosticware 30 minutes every stop? Not quite, yes a restroom break, snacks not so much, taking another 20 minutes to stretch, or go for a gentle jog....nope. Most of my fuel stops are 10 minutes or less, unless I have to stop for a conference call and I am not alone in this either. Thing is this pickup is probably a perfect fit for some and a terrible fit for others so I can respect anyone that likes it and those that don't
@@jeffreylines1535 i agree I try keep my stops to 5-10 min on long road trips unless it’s lunch/dinner time. If the people dropping $100k+ on a vehicle really want that vehicle to be a truck, then by all means this is a good option.
The real world test is towing a big boat to a regional lake. I was watching one Cybertruck video and they couldn't plan a trip to the regional lake. Maybe one day recharging infrastructure will expand pass the interstate.
I am glad to hear that it is not a squishy truck. The more I hear about it, the more I like it. Now, if only the price was not so astronomical, and GM had an interior color other than black. I miss the days when you could spec out a truck in just about any color combo that you wanted.
Was going to jump on an order for this last year until I saw the payload of only 1400lbs..... Definitely an awesome EV but it wouldnt of suited my needs for a work truck. I ended up ordering a 24 HD AT4 Gas long bed with 3450lb payload. Ive already got 13k miles on it and it's been an absolutely fantastic truck!
I was wondering if the towing would be like an ICE truck. For me I have a Ram 2500 and almost anything I put on it drops me from 12 to 14 MPG to 9 to 10 MPG. If you have a lighter load will it go further or is it going to be the same distance like ICE vehicles
Thanks Andre! I'm glad that GM waited and addressed the range concerns but what we really need is a PHEV with 40-50 miles EV range and a combined 325ish HP rating. Please GM! Plug in Hybrid!
Why? An average full size new ice truck this year is 65k, average ev truck is 83k. Get a decent trim around 70 or low 70s then ad the tax credit and it's right on top of the average new ice pickup selling price. I think Chevy can accomplish this by the end of 2025 or sooner. Rivian already has some cheaper trims available, ct should come down by next summer, the ram rev charger is coming, the scout trucks are coming etc. New segment competition should push these still high ev truck prices down 20-30% these next 18-24 months or so. 👍🏻😎
@@4literv6 yeah more competition will be good for consumers. As for what assante199x posted, this needs to apply to all vehicles gas or ev. Prices have gotten out of control and a 40% reduction across all vehicles would be great for families struggling under these economic conditions. They could justify financing a $40k-50k vehicle but a $70k-$100k vehicle not so much.
is the Silverado EV RST too heavy, (and/or big), to go through a conveyor type car wash? If a carwash can handle the weight, can you keep the truck in neutral long enough to get through the wash? Dennis B.
I could see somebody using it. If you're going up for a ski trip fully kitted out in your gear, you've got the long ski bags tucked in through the mid gate, maybe throw a heavy packing blanket over the top to seal around them a bit, if you've got a tonneau cover to cut down on the draft...
You can drop the midgate pass through door which keeps the glass in place. With a tonneau cover that means it's still completely closed off. Cabin heater will just need to work a bit harder to also heat the bed volume.
I think Chevrolet has done a great job with this truck. It really seems to be one of the best electric trucks out right now. Also, I smiled seeing downtown Detroit; I grew up in Metro Detroit and it was always exciting to go downtown for Tigers games and the North American International Auto Show. Many happy memories there.
There should be an option for a one piece folding mid gate with a power operated rear window. The modular nature is cool, but 90% of the time I would just pull the whole thing down anyway. Same with the tailgate, just a much simpler one piece tail gate with a bigger flap that flips back to prevent things from sliding out.
Do the smaller battery options allow space for a spare? I’m super interested in the Sierra AT4 and if I had to trade 100 mi of range to get a spare and lower cost I’d do it.
The 4WT has the same size battery and has a full spare, although it is an 18 inch tire. It's the air suspension that makes it for no room for a full size spare. I think they should have looked at modifying the frunk so they could fit the full size spare in there.
We have a car that has a spare but we got different rims so the new tire needed different tooling and we just decided to keep the donut in the garage and keep a full size spare in the trunk because its nice to change the flat tire with a whole new one amd be done with it right there and you just go get the full size tire replaced and use it as the next spare.
Now since you're towing an electric boat, can you plug that into the truck for extended range? :):) Still waiting for the Eisenhower test here in Colorado!
I struggle with the hands free driving concept, if I am driving I want to pay attention (yes they do too thus the reason it watches your eyes) but why do my hands need to be free since I also need to pay attention to the road? I don't want minds wondering to the dark side so please keep your comments child friendly but what can I do with my hands that wouldn't take my mind off the road? I think it is easier to pay attention to the road if you are more actively engaged. About the only thing I can see as a positive is if I look at the nav or radio the pickup will keep me centered but beyond that I don't understand all the hype.
You are thinking 15 years ago; truck is the new suburban family SUV, and sales of a family hauling crew cab far outstrip the dual/small cab outside of fleet sales. There is the farm/working truck and the suburban/family truck, and there are way more families willing to take out long-term loans for a truck then farmers, so you can guess who the target consumer is.
I generally like it but it looks heavy and slightly collapsed somehow. Maybe the off road version will look more aggressive and sporty with more ground clearance?
Truck tires are very expensive bro. They could last a while in a v8 f150 but when you have to replace them its like paying rent bro because you will put a better tire on it than what it came with you need a good tire with a lifetime warentee so any time it leaks you come in and they plug it air it back up you dont pay again.
@@jrghays46 That's kinda like "if I can afford a $96k truck with a limited payload, I should be able to pay a black guy in an old ICE 8foot bed truck to follow me to the job with the materials in his truck"
Why set the brake gain to 0? Can’t you just leave it as is, since the brake signal does nothing, or does setting it to 0 tell the computer to react differently with the truck brakes instead of the trailer brakes?

Overall, I really like the look of this pickup. The dimensions look proportional, and it just looks well integrated and clean. The Supercruise intrigues me. I wish they offered it in more trims across the whole lineup. Is it something that you'd opt for if you were purchasing GM again? Is it worth having? There are rumors of a Trailboss trim. That I think would be really cool. For one, it'd get rid of the huge 24" wheels hopefully, and get a little more rubber between you and those potholes. I think it's a well executed truck. Yes, Ford beat GM to the punch with an EV pickup, but I think overall GM had better execution here. (Side note, they give you an electric pickup and an electric boat, with surge brakes???? What the heck 😂)
I own a gas-powered 2022 Silverado 1500, and I was really excited when I first saw the EV version. But as soon as I spotted that Avalanche-style body cladding, all my excitement disappeared. Sure, the specs are great, and I'd love to buy one, but that outdated design kills it for me. No chance I'm spending $100k on something that looks like that. Chevy had a real shot to give the truck a fresh, modern look, and instead, they went backwards. Honestly, I prefer the gas model's design. At this rate, if our automakers keep messing it up, Chinese manufacturers with better design sense are going to take over.
The design is well thought out, and it looks amazing, but $100,000 keeps it unattainable for most working folks. When the price drops it will be a real winner.
Honestly I wouldn't buy an ev. I have no way to charge it. Where I live it is completely impractical for me to have an ev. This one seems nice. Cost way too much tho.
@@joekuiper9079 Im in the same boat. I have a Toyota 4Runner but I wouldn’t mind having an EV as a second car. But I don’t have access to home charging.
As less and less new vehicles have spare tires, we will need more tow trucks. Did I miss it, what are the warranties like on these $100,000 dollar vehicles?
This truck looks better than any other EV, but that’s subjective. $4000+ 24” wheel set up looks too much. 18 or 19 would look ok with spoke wheels. Wonder how long Rivia stays a float?
I’m actually picking up my R1T today & have been looking at a lot of these videos on this Silverado, the Lightning & the Cyber truck and I’m convinced I made the right choice. To me and especially for what I’m going to use it for, the R1T is the most versatile electric truck on the market. It actually tows more than this Silverado, has more HP and is faster but none of that is important to me. Unlike any of the others you can easily navigate city streets & parking, park it in a normal size garage and still use it for things like camping or throw a couple of bikes in the bed and hit a trail. I’ll also add that the midgate is more of a party trick & I don’t really see people using it that often. There are just way too many steps & things that can go wrong. You also lose seating and when you have it in use your cabin is exposed which in bad or cold weather is not going to be good.
@@atg1338 I’ll admit the Lightning is a better work truck and I like that you can spec it to use it as a generator in case your power goes out. I also like that it looks like a normal truck. It just wasn’t going to fit in my garage and I like that I can outfit the R1T for ideal camping.
Kinda tired of this whole "real truck" talk. If it is primarily for moving stuff, it is a truck. If it is primarily for moving people, it is a car. The Transit is a truck, the Santa Cruz is a car. Everything in between blurs the lines quite thoroughly.

You guys deserve a million views per episode
I do hope the Trailboss or imagine EV ZR2 has the ability to raise the ride height lie the Rivian or Hummer EV.
Any idea when the 2025 RAM CHARGER will be reviewed?? September???
Nice review! GOOD gob GM
This truck will have to drop at least 40% in value before it takes off. Great specs.
Dennis B.
I’ll be curious to see how often that midgate is used in Detroit in January 😂
I could see somebody using it. If you're going up for a ski trip fully kitted out in your gear, you've got the long ski bags tucked in through the mid gate, maybe throw a heavy packing blanket over the top to seal around them a bit, if you've got a tonneau cover to cut down on the draft...
You can drop the midgate pass through door which keeps the glass in place. With a tonneau cover that means it's still completely closed off. Cabin heater will just need to work a bit harder to also heat the bed volume.
The Avirado EV is SWEET!
Are you talking about a truck or your underwear?
Did the four wheel steering cause the truck to get squirrelly at launch 0-60?
No it appears to be some torque steer.
Test this truck and others in North Dakota in winter minus 20 degree. Thank you
They should have focused on making a suburban/tahoe EV (and yukon as well) - that would actually sell very well.
@@jasondesjarlais5507 The WT has 32.5 inch tires. RST has 35s.
The aftermarket will take care of the spare tire.
The seat stitching is just like my 2012 Camaro 45th anniversary edition with red and blue stitching
Hi Andre
What's the red sticker on your phone and why ?
Thanks
At that weight…what is the thread life on the tires?
Now since you're towing an electric boat, can you plug that into the truck for extended range? :):) Still waiting for the Eisenhower test here in Colorado!
150 kw battery and smaller wheels for efficiency and I might be interested.
Wow. Just 22 minutes against Kyles 119 minutes.😅
18:03 thought it was a hair on my screen 😂😂🥹🥹
I wonder if the suspension is as tough as the one under the Hummer EV
'haul a lot of people' is a car. It can at least be configured to have a real bed, not the open trunk of other 'trucks'.
@@Cloud30000 - as I said, today's 'truck' is really a car with an open trunk. Does not matter why, it is what it is.
oh man! this is such a big battery, but with it it become so heavy ! does it really need that extra weight ?
looks great
The Chevrolet Silverado EV RST and Forza X1 Electric Boat make the perfect duo!
I generally like it but it looks heavy and slightly collapsed somehow. Maybe the off road version will look more aggressive and sporty with more ground clearance?
When is the Suburban version coming out?
Like the work version, I prefer the front of the "frunk" flap to look grillish.
I wonder how much those tires cost to replace
If you can afford a 96k truck, the tire cost isn't a concern.
One pedal driving option?
I will buy one of these when they dip in price! These are sweet
My favorite of the EV trucks by far.
Im such a Ford guy but man is GM knocking it out of the park with EVs right now. This is what we want from a truck if we're going to go EV
Roman sounds so much like Mr. Tuddball from The Carol Burnett Show 😅
Love the concept and truthfully would consider it if, like everything else, was a bit more in reach for middle class.
Why set the brake gain to 0? Can’t you just leave it as is, since the brake signal does nothing, or does setting it to 0 tell the computer to react differently with the truck brakes instead of the trailer brakes?
I bought my house 10 years ago for 200k, trucks now cost 100k, this inflation is killer
4:50 no spare because an industrial jack is needed to lift this beast.
***** Rented this truck for 9 days and the screen blackout and the AC gave out due to a HIGH VOLTAGE CHARGE which was prompt on the screen. I had no AC on a hot day while it was raining. I was in Texas when this all happened *****
Save your money until it’s fixed
9,000 lbs and $100,000 makes me love my 400hp V8 that can tow 10,500 lbs for half the price more and more every day.
They gotta make the v8s better not worse.
I wonder does Chevy plan on having the truck that's above the work truck model and below that truck
I don't understand why manufacturers don't include a spare like Andre said if you damage a tire your immobilized!
Why did andre choose an aerodynamic boat instead of those huge square trailers they pull with. 700hp with no wheel spin.
This was obviously at a press event where everything was provided.
If the cybertruck had a drop down mid gate, it would be the perfect truck to camp in. Guess I just gotta wait for the suburban ev or something.
The design is well thought out, and it looks amazing, but $100,000 keeps it unattainable for most working folks. When the price drops it will be a real winner.
Not sure how he can’t remember the Rivian and F150 Lightning are both well under 4 second 0-60…
Who cares. I can't remember the last time I needed to get to 60 mph in 4 seconds. 😅
Using acceleration numbers to sell trucks is such a marketing ploy. It’s like using horse power ratings to sell lightbulbs.
Also noted .. that glare on those dumb LCD screens is standard option
Can you test it with a Fifth-wheel?
I still don't understand why a pickup truck needs to be a race car.
Totally agree!
This is probably the best electric truck 440 miles is crazy
WELCOME TO DETROIT!!!!!!
I wouldn't be opposed to buying this if I had 100k burning a hole in my pocket.
Eltric roal royce onky $445,000
Honestly I wouldn't buy an ev. I have no way to charge it. Where I live it is completely impractical for me to have an ev. This one seems nice. Cost way too much tho.
@@joekuiper9079 Im in the same boat. I have a Toyota 4Runner but I wouldn’t mind having an EV as a second car. But I don’t have access to home charging.
Pretty impressive.
Very interesting 🤔 I have so many questions ❓
GM built it to be a REALLY EXPENSIVE TRUCK.
Mission accomplished, GM. 😒
Honestly make it and ice vehicle and call it the avalanche reboot
As less and less new vehicles have spare tires, we will need more tow trucks. Did I miss it, what are the warranties like on these $100,000 dollar vehicles?
This truck looks better than any other EV, but that’s subjective. $4000+ 24” wheel set up looks too much. 18 or 19 would look ok with spoke wheels. Wonder how long Rivia stays a float?
Quickest to a recall
5:47 it should be TH-cam Edition 😆
1000x better looking then a tesla
Yeah Chevrolet Avalanche it sucked
Not a bad choice.... i got the ford because i use it as a work truck and needed the bigger bed....R1T looks good
@@atg1338 I’ll admit the Lightning is a better work truck and I like that you can spec it to use it as a generator in case your power goes out. I also like that it looks like a normal truck. It just wasn’t going to fit in my garage and I like that I can outfit the R1T for ideal camping.
@@kenyattaclay7666 enjoy that new truck 👍 they look great and so does the SUV.... might get that for my wife in the future....
@@doylewillis9587 the Chevy Avalanche was AWESOME!
Kinda tired of this whole "real truck" talk. If it is primarily for moving stuff, it is a truck. If it is primarily for moving people, it is a car. The Transit is a truck, the Santa Cruz is a car. Everything in between blurs the lines quite thoroughly.
IDC ,,,,the Silverado ev and the Tesla cybertruck are my favorite pickups today 😊❤️❤️❤️
Driveway breaker. For sure. My work van is breaking my cheap spec house drive at
7.2K pounds. Dang need get weights down on EV. For sure.
Swappable battery needed as i bet better tech comes fast
i had mine preordered because they told me the truck was starting at 39,000 but almost 3 years after I put down my deposit they said it's over 100k. wtf is that. I say no
