Main reason why I switched from rack style battery to wall mounted, less space. I wonder why they didnt rotate those battery cables to the other side of the battery for shorter runs?? Seems odd they would run the cables from the other side. Other then that, seems like a great battery!
Yeah maybe I should have removed the cell cover to see why they did that. Not trying to go too deep into a breakdown as I really just wanted to get a quick peek under the hood. Working well so far.
Thanks, Rodney, for the video. I have two of these batteries, and the newest one I have had for just 10 days failed. And keeps failing every day. Temp sensor #1 shows -40C and shuts down the BMS. Then restarts and works fine for a day or so then fails again. I installed Pbms V2.5 on my laptop, got a usb to Rj11 cable and sent the data received to Sungold. They said they think the sensor is faulty and will send me a new one. That is better than me driving 2 hours to their repair shop in Mission Viejo, for sure, because I tossed the box it came in. I hope they tell me which of the four sensors is #1, LOL. Thanks again for the video!
I think it did pretty well. Did over 100 amps for 10 minutes before bms shutdown. Then not sure what the amps that cut it off initially were probably 130-150 range. Most are rated at 150 plus for only 3 seconds. So just depends on your needs. When you have multiple batteries usually not going to be an issue unless you have very large inverters and loads.
Ok well that's better than I thought. From the video it seemed like it cut out as soon as you hit 106 amps. I have a few loads with a high surge so I want to get the most out of my low frequency inverter.
That was the last reading but it was definitely higher because I was watching the wattage go up as well. I need to get a better meter for these test. 👍
Hi Rodney, great review as usual. Not sure I understood how you got the communication going. Is it that the SGP battery have the luxpower protocol or did you use Pylon over CAN?
Just connected the can cable and set dip switches. It just worked so nothing else I did so the battery says it has protocols for several brands though. So I would guess rs485 could work as well.
@@rodneyhunt Ok. What protocol do you have your 12K PV set to? I just checked SGP's manual for the 5KWH battery and it's a bit disappointing that they only state they support many protocols instead of specifying what exactly they support. On their 10KWH battery however, they do list the protocols and they have Luxpower listed but I am doubtful that the BMS in the 5KWH battery is the same in the 10KWH battery. Their inverters and charge controllers seem to work well and have a good reputation and support seems to be excellent once you purchase directly from them. I would imagine that same good quality has gone into their batteries. Hoping to see your review on their 10K battery soon Rodney. Really appreciate your channel.
I got 2 of them batteries, and 2 5000 watt A.I.O from SunGoldPower, and these are the ones sitting in the middle of my flooded area under the solar panels. I lost Solar Assistant, so I can't monitor them, but they still working after the water coming up to the back plate. I have them sitting flat on their backs due to height restrictions, which in hindsight was a good choice.
once you get the shed generating power maybe run line from the shed to the house to siphon off extra power. that may be generated. mayb put it is on a gen port on one of the 6k's
I am confused on the wiring for a parallel set up. Should the positive inverter connection go to power wall 1 and the negative connection go to powerwall 2
All positives together then all negatives together. So you can have inverter to battery one then battery two to battery one. Just follow the manual. Hope this helps
I like SGP, works well with my budget. Thanks for the review
You bet. Thanks for watching
I have been using two of them for the last year. Working really well
Nice! 👍

I like how it has an on /off switch and comes with cables.

Oh man sorry to hear that! Maybe that sensor will fix your problem!
Nice job Rodney
Thanks
Thanks Rodney. Disappointed in the BMS as there is little surge overhead. Most qualiry 100ah lifepo4 batteries hit over 200 amps discharge.

Probably luxpower but I didn’t change anything so will need to verify.

Wow crazy. Nice to see they are still working. Did you say you are a trucker? Could be wrong so many names on here.
@@rodneyhunt No sir. not a trucker. I'm disabled by arthritis in my knees. used to fix Gasoline dispensers for SPATCO and Kroger

If it was a little closer I probably would. 👍
Hey Rodney, did you have to acquire a building permit when you built the detached solar gazebo for your parents?
I didn’t but check locally as some locations will. 👍
@@rodneyhunt thanks, i appreciate it.

@@rodneyhunt not much in the manual. I had the inverter positive and negative both connected to battery one. Just switched the negative to battery 2
This will look good next to my Sungold 6k LP inverter - just needs to come back down in price.
September 4th price should drop again
I wander if that will comm with Calpha. I’ve been looking at it
Will need to try that!
@@rodneyhunt takecare brother been waiting for one of your vids. 👍👍
Hey thanks. Appreciate the support!
Have you tried running it as the second battery on the can bus after the EG4 power pro, would like to see if will work that way vs all by itself
Have not yet. Can try it though and ket you know
Does it have built in heater?
No it doesn’t
Any chance you looked to see what BMS it has?
I don’t remember off hand. Might be able to look back at some video to see. Will let you know if I figure it out
Does it have a fan that runs all the time? These units are usually loud
I didn’t hear any fan.
That maybe the inverters you are thinking of.
do you have a link to that table?
It’s a flexispot desk amzn.to/3Z3l4Lh
12kPV video coming soon?
Yes. Had it for a while just busy. This week
Did you update it before you tested it?
No just started testing
Kool. Thanks for the video.
Thanks
6 hours later and the battery is selling for $1750, not $1250. I'll keep looking.
@@JD-xo3xz why does this always happen lol. Today it was literally $1250. Why would it change in the middle of the day. Sorry about that
@@rodneyhunt No worries, im sure it will come back down
Yeah. Maybe the sale was on china time or something.
Was just told a new sale will start Sept 4th. 👍
Is it Ul listed? Sun gold is always more expensive than eg4.
