      As we all should still be doing. When people aren't continuing to listen to their own music, what the heck are they listening to and how much they have de-evolved.

    This is earlier than Pulse, in fact a lot earlier. The video was shot during the „Delicate Sound of Thunder“ tour in November 1988(!). You can tell not only because they are all younger (and David still has his long hair), but also because of the earlier and less intricate Lightshow. Even though the main aspects (the light-circle, the lightband in front of the stage and the spotlights for Gilmour, the background vocalists etc) were already in place - only for Pulse 6 years later they took it to another level and made use of computerization (which would simply not have been possible in the late 80ies!)

Hands down, top of the list and I've seen all the headline rock concerts. Nothing comes close. I play guitar too, and have never heard anyone who plays with more emotion. Nice reaction. David Gilmour, to compose his solos, will first "sing" the lines of the scale he wishes to convey, then he plays them. Like many of the greats, it is not technical proficiency that they are trying to show off, but their song alone. Especially when Roger Waters isn't there, the ego's all seem to be in check, and it is the tingling of spines that it is important. Sure, someone can play a thousand notes a minute, and seem flashy, but someone who can vibrate ONE NOTE and keep you on the edge of your seat is more effective.

  • @richardturk7162
    @richardturk7162 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Thats what I always liked about Pink Floyd they never felt the need to be flashy or try to impress anyone.
    They let their music do that.
    I have been a fan since the mid 60s and am still a fan.
    This song and Comfortably Numb are my two favorite songs to play in a live setting.
    The 80s were all about flash and style and yeah I did all that back then too but now all that isn't important .

    This was the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour, the first tour Pink Floyd had after Roger Waters left the band and after the ensuing legal battles that followed. Imagine our thirst for their live concerts after nearly a decade of their absence in the live music scene, and during that decade, movie theatres everywhere as well as planetariums everywhere were doing laser light shows on the weekends and it was Pink Floyd music as the backdrop. Everyone wanted a ticket, and stadiums were sold out in less than 400mins from the time the box office opened sales... remember back then, there wasn't the ever-present internet, people had to go physically and buy their tickets, and so much of the time spent was just in processing that transaction.
    Then they came out on stage and made a moment, an event, that was every bit worth the price and the build-up in all that it entailed. Audio mastery unlike any concert or live event, even greater than the sounds at the theatre, visual so grand, the world became the stage and they made you feel that they had used every inch of it. The harmonics rippled through your body and made you one with the rest of the crowd, one with the space they were playing in. The band was flawless, the technicians were ultimate professionals, and production was so great that 30yrs later, only 1 tour was better, and it was the following Pink Floyd tour Pulse.

    I got into PF when I was 13 because of this live album, aptly called "Delicate Sound of Thunder" and then waited 7 years to see them live in Lisbon during the Pulse tour.

When I went to Pulse tour, it was great, but seeing them return to the stage live after the break with Roger and the court cases, they put their hearts in to it and performing for the fans. I saw Roger Waters in 2010 perform The Wall for the 30th anniversary and loved it, but it was a 90 minute show. The 1988 show was 3 hours and 45 minutes. We were horse for cheering for so long.

My older sisters had me dancing to chubby checker and The twist in the early '60s and the music they experienced before me and what I experienced growing up I've been listening to all my life Yes I did know I do know and I'm still living it vicariously through people like you who are hearing it for the first time because it gives me such a thrill to know that more people are enjoying this music that it's not just being stuck in a drawer only to come out in a hundred years. I was raised on a lot of Floyd, later Beatles, Doors, etc. My parent loved their acid rock. I especially bonded with Pink Floyd's Animals and Wish You Were Here and play both albums now and again.
    If you love Floyd and that Prog Rock style, you might also like Devin Townsend. Devy is the godfather of Prog Metal, and some of his work really screams Pink Floyd but metal. For an incredible performance try Devin Townsend Project - Deadhead (Live at Royal Albert Hall)
