    Hi Sweet Friends, Today I am sharing How to Dry Apples in the Oven. You DO NOT NEED A DEHYDRATOR. This is so easy to do and creates a healthy snack without any sulphur dioxide. Dried apple rings have a wonderful aroma and can also be used for making great crafts like a delightfully scented kitchen wreath. Love, Mary

    Question: How long can you store the dried apple slices? Both in the jar and on the string? Dearest you have been such a great discovery in today’s world. I love slicing my apples very thin on a mandolin and drying them either plain or with a bit of cinnamon(no need for sugar, like some do- they are sweet as they are). I dry them until crisp and store them in 1/2 gallon mason jars with an oxygen absorber. So yummy and so pretty on my shelf🍎🍏🍎🍏 Love your channel so much!!!

    Oh, this is WONDERFUL, @Mary's Nest !!! I have never thought to do this and now it is on my list! I will tag you when I do! And THANK YOU for the distinction between oven dried vs. apple chips and sweetness levels! GOOD TO KNOW!!! You could also "craft it" and place them in a circle as you did and put a candle in the middle and place it as a table center! Hey, the candle could even add warmth to the apples and people could tear them off to eat! - xoxo

    Hey Mary! Some great ideas! Btw when using oxygen absorbers I heard that we should only use them for foods that are 10% moisture or less and definitely not to use them with oily things like nuts or you can run the risk of botulism. Yikes!

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, you are 100% correct. And as to dehydrated food, it must be very dry - inside and out - 10% or less moisture - to the point where you can snap it. Have you seen my Prepper Pantry series where I talk all about this? You might enjoy it. Here’s the link to the playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLkRuW3pBo2U0WCxRNWm60Yt0ihEQbfpUl.html Scroll through it. Very nice video and love how you are using everything even the scraps. Just one comment.. I am wondering why go through all the extra work to stop browning from oxygen if then we immediately put them in the oven and they are coming out brown anyways? The color doesn't bother me at all, so couldn't i just skip the whole part about the acid water? Thanks!

      Hi Lisa, yes. That is a very common practice in Amish baking. They’ll rehydrate the apples and then use them to make what they call a dried apple pie.
