Ray is such a severely underrated character. I really enjoy his character and dialogue. Ray actually wanted Luis to be his legitimate business partner, so that he’d be placed in charge of Ray’s operations while he’s out of America. He likely didn’t trust Dimitri, despite his status as a businessman, so he took his chances with Timur in the end, showing that he did trust Timur. Additionally I don’t think Ray wanted to impress Luis, not really. I think he wanted to demonstrate that he’s not a regular criminal, let alone crime boss, by demonstrating his capability to get his hands dirty. However despite the misconception that Ray wasn’t as strong in America, he still had a lot of men working for him as well as some serious resources and weapons. He was clearly above Dimitri. As for him reaching out to the Ancelottis, it’s because they were associated with Tony directly and could pressure Luis to take over. Additionally by this point, Dimitri is either killed by Niko on the Platypus, or has seemingly betrayed Bulgarin during the heroin deal.
In the conversation in the car with Ray and Luis, if you listen to it you can see that Ray knows a lot about the game. One of them was about telling Luis not to trust anyone.
Also Ray going back to Europe was meant for stragetic reasons. He was never afraid of Niko or Luis. It was just his time in America was a failure and he needed to go back to Europe to retreat and regroup. Ray would only use this strategy if he got too much heat in America or he had nothing left there. That’s why Luis and Tony in the final mission knew that it’s now or never on getting rid of Ray and both Luis and Tony can’t purse Ray in Europe. Ray would have been back in Liberty when the situation was better for sure.
The moment i realized the "cargo" Niko spoke of was people, sorta makes the events of GTA 4 seem like karma. No wonder Niko wanted a change We love your insight into this series, bro. You got a PhD in GTA
I like how the Ballad of Gay Tony shows a different side of Ray Bulgarin than the one GTA IV saw. It shows what Ray is trying to do in Liberty City and his failures. Ray might be crazy but he’s smarter and experienced than one thought about the life he had.
And it can if you have enough of it. But he was a big fish in a small pond in Europe. In America, you gotta be amongst the elite if you want your money to move like that. You don’t bribe cops in America. You bribe entire courts
I remember way back when playing it that I thought the final boss and villain of the last mission would be Bulgarin along with Dimitri. It genuinely seemed like it was getting set up for that, so when he disappeared and was nowhere to be found in either endings I was confused for the longest time lol.
I think it makes the tragedy of revenge all the more poignant, Niko doesn't actually get the revenge he wants on Bulgarin after killing countless people to get it. Instead Luis someone completely unrelated to his past is Bulgarin's undoing

I like how you sidestepped the copyright system during the Maisonette 9 scene. Didn't think that Miike Snow song would sound dope at 108BPM. Anyway, I find him interesting considering in GTAIV he is shown as a sinister / intimidating person in contrast to BoGT you get to see his relaxed / goofy side of him with the guitars until he pointed fingers at Luis over something that really isn't his fault. His mistakes are fully shown during that DLC. Like what the two protagonists says, he has all the money in the world but doesn't get the job done himself and just send his goons to do all the work for him.
8:23 you probably meant to say 20 million rubles were equivalent to 200k dollars, which is not accurate since in 2008 the date where the game is set, it could reach close to a million depending on what month
You're smart, at first I didn't appreciate your vids like I just have and am in the middle of doing. I realize that you make video types that show the really subtle, and the oddly obvious things I don't pick up on and makes it front and foremost. Your videos are like enabling a hyper awareness about this game, like how I feel when I smoke weed and what it does when I get high. The effect onto my mind. I find you very intelligent, and I, despite being subbed to you for a ;long time, am going to actively search and tune to your vids. I hope you cover or covered more stuff I am interested in. Hope that made sense. You are very intelligent and you have a talent for observation.
He thinks it’s his but it was never ever in his possession. He was eyeing it for a long time tho. He just wanted it as rare blood diamonds such as those would net him even more money on top of the wealth he already has. It would’ve also increased his power too.
that too but i think him being in america showed that he is not the only one with wealth and power and him threatening people was probably why they didn't respect him@@barricadedpurifier
“My sister… she is still getting adjusted. We all are!” That line is just so funny with how perfect the delivery is.

@@ntrainr160Yeah. He’s highly intelligent and extremely underrated. His voice actor alone makes me enjoy his dialogue.

@@justsomeguy747 Heck he could have gotten away in the end of GTA TBOGT if it wasnt for Timur bragging to Luis that Ray is leaving.
You forgot to mention he's also really hot

America told him NO AND Europe told him YES
Bulgarin was not tricked by America he thought that his power can reach America just like what he does in Europe.

He forget people have access to a lot of guns in America lol
i wish bulgarin would have been the final boss and the main villain of GTA IV, along with dimitri instead of pegorino.
Facing the demons of past, present, and future. But especially from the criminal side of nikos life.

Same. He doesn't fit in TBOGT.

Yeah, honestly i dont really care about pegorino

Vitali Baganov, who played Bulgarin and also that russian in The Sopranos really has an iconic voice.
Damn good work man! You should do a collaboration with TheProfessional someday 👍🏻
I would love to see that

Was there any evidence to suggest that the diamonds belonged to Bulgarin?
Of course not lol he had no motion really except having money
