Loved that tuip/trick of re-using 'walking back for the camera' footage by flipping it to create a new shot!! Thank you for all your work and generosity in sharing all of your filmmaking knowledge
Great video and explanation on what it really takes to make a finished product. The majority of work comes in post production and is what I find so satisfying. Thanks for a behind the scenes adventure on the mountain. As a past owner of a 1972 Honda XL250 I can appreciate your enthusiasm when your bike started and ran after the adventure. Cheers
I love behind the scenes videos like this one. I shoot video as we explore abandoned mines. I end up carrying two GoPros with me. One rigged up with a Aputure light on an L-handle for outward facing shots, and a second on a selfy-stick with a Lume-Cube for speaking directly to the camera. It's a bit of a challenge to edit all the video from the two cameras into a coherent story. You have been an inspiration. I was previously a Patreon supporter, but now it's time to step back up and become a channel member. Thanks for all the insights! Merry Christmas!
Oh man - I was hoping you had a trick for not hiking back to grab the camera! How about this: mavic mini drone - set up the shot (perched on a rock or whatever) do the walk, fly the drone back to you! Thanks for the vid Levi- I always appreciate your methodology.
6:32 That shot is actually gorgeous. The light is fantastic. l truly love it! And the folowing one you show 7:05 is great as well. l have just discovered your channel so l'm exploring your content 😊
Levi- Super enjoyed this vlog, learning about your process and pains- and I'm not a video dude! Just appreciate/RESPECT what you go thru to produce the content you do.
Binged your van conversion series as we were starting our build have always loved the content. These types of videos are inspiring and valuable! Thanks for taking the time to share what it’s really like.
I'm coming to the wack in summer 2022 (moms there) and will find this Mountain top circle fortress. Love that you are getting back to the usual videos, but also loved the current event updates.
@@Levi_Allen How you used camera shots/edits to tell the story, eg using the walking back to camera shots in the edit, plus useful to know the gear and how you used it to aid the story
I appreciate and thank you for the efforts you put forth to include the epic shots and adventures you go on. That’s what makes your channel so exciting and so much fun. You’re awesome!! God bless you and your family and all of the adventures you share along the way!! I thoroughly enjoy your videos and love your style and the way you film your adventures. ☺️❤️👍
I know that back and forth, I film riding to and from the camera. Great behind the scenes, great to see this after watching the original video you posted.
Man for whatever reason it had been a hot minute since I'd watched one of your videos. Your bike packing video got me deep diving on your channel again! An absolute gold mine. Keep up the killer content creation 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Hey Levi, love these types of videos where you talk a bit about the BTS. What hit home was when you said that a normal adventure is way different than one where you are filming. I find it difficult to get that extra self footage with tripods when you’re with a group because of the extra time it takes. I hope to join one of your adventure filmmaking courses, I’m a local Vancouverite and explored a lot of the same mountain ranges you’ve been to. Would love to know if you plan on making any local BC courses or workshops for 2022!
Hi Levi, I’m always looking for adventure videos to take me places I physically cannot go. I came across your video and enjoyed it immensely. The mother in me was wanting to tell you to get on that bike and go home with those wet boots and blisters. Be careful please! Happy New Year, I look forward to watching more videos.
This is awesome!! I am super curious about how solo videos are made as I don’t know anyone making them to ask. Thank you for this bts and totally interested in more like this and any of your videos, really!!
I find I need to keep my trail running shape top notch which allows me to either get shots ahead or behind my hiking crew and always keep up with them for my hiking films. I end up adding 10% extra distance (20km hike for my friends is 22km for me) they always think my strava track is broken until I point out the filming haha.
I really enjoyed this. I'm solo 98% of the time in BC and see nothing wrong with your trip. Its good to hear your break down of what you do. The 20mm has become my favourite lens and it amazes me how well it records the interior of the tent and how close it focuses while in there...and of course the size and weight is a bonus. I never thought of flipping scenes(such a newbie it hurts) and I may try it. Cheers.
The 20mm is so great! Learning to love solo trips myself. Nights can be a little spooky, but other than that It’s nice just not worrying about anyone else
@@Levi_Allen Ok you need to familiar yourself(if you haven't already) with Barred Owls and all the calls they make. Long story short I was woken up 1am one may morning up near Nahatlatch and I heard monkeys screeching in the tree tops. They were every where. Blasted Barred Owls! Cheers.
Awesome adventure videos Levi. I really enjoy seeing our local playground. Interesting hearing the comments and concerns for the Cheam hike. Good job 👍 Overnighting up there is on my list but I think I’ll wait for summer. 😉 Thanks for sharing your adventures.
That’s crazy that there saying you have a crew, if you have a second person or more you let them be seen. This was a great video. Great explanation of what you are doing.
HAHAHAHA make a fire?! did you see the winds and the amount of snow on the peak. This is just backpacking, you are self sufficient with everything in your pack. People should look at thru hiking and their minds will be blown. Good video as always Levi.
You should interview with a professional backcountry guide after one these film objectives missions (kind of like a director’s commentary). I think it would useful education for more novice backcountry adventurers.
Appreciate this Levi! I kind of wish there was more of a...designation...for self-filmed trips. I spent about 3 years traveling the world by bicycle with a partner and sometimes it is hard to communicate with audiences what you are actually doing behind-the-scenes. I do find myself 'eye rolling' at times at Patagonia films and other adventures where it is focused on 1 person's adventure but there are 2+ designated filmmakers to capture that trip. AUDIO! I'm learning so much about audio and would love to know more. I picked up the Sony A7sIII because of you after using a $500 Nikon off Craigslist - the 24 - 105 lens is great. Does the Insta 360 have great stabilization (pre or post?) I was impressed with the footage of you driving over giant pot holes. Keep adventuring!
Hi Levi, I'm a little late to the comment game here. It was because of you I bought the Shamodo Camera bag and went all in and got the Big one.....About the hike and coming back for the camera?...Why not use a drone let it sit there while walk away. Just treat it like a dog and tell it to come to you. If there is any movement stabalize in post.
@@Levi_Allen I wonder tho, carrying a mavic mini 2 and like 6-9 batteries, specifically for shots like this. Just set it, 30 second flight time to get it back to you, but if you're only doing a few of these per trip, don't know if the the weight would be worth it. I havent done any hikes like this (let alone filming it) so im talking shit from the peanut gallery lol
Plus getting an angle that would be just how you want it would require so much luck, and it would have to be free of debri to actually launch and make the whole thing seamless, so ill admit, its not as revolutionary of an idea as I initially thought 😂

This is so helpful. I genuinely couldn't think how you got those shots of you on the bike. Thanks
That was crazy!!! Glad you're tent held up!!!
I really appreciate the behind the scenes and breakdown of how you made that awesome video. Keep up that fantastic work.
Really appreciate your thought process not just the filming but the hiking/camping as well 💪🏽

Because the batteries wouldn’t last near as long for a shoot like this. And they perform even worse in the cold
Ps why can’t I download this video to my TH-cam app to watch off line
I should have commented on the last video. Lol.
Peace
are there not bears? that is Canada is it not? wont they chomp you up if they see you?
Can you not take similar shot using drone camera ? Not a cinematographer even remotely, so I have no idea !
