Hi, Christine! I have Bachelor degree in Business informatics. I received an offer for the data consultant job position. Could you tell me which technical skills I need and if any programming is required for this type of job?
A good start is looking at the job description but you could also ask the people that interviewed you too! Data consultant is very vague so you might need some programming or you might not need it at all! As a consultant, you find projects to get staffed on so it’s also possible that you can just find projects that currently suit your skillset OR go for training (which consulting firms have a lot of) and upskill on parts you’re not comfortable with!
Consulting was the worst year of my live/career. I'm guessing it varies project to project, but my god working with consultants from other agencies on the same project was the worst experience of my life.
I’m so sorry about your experience! I think it’s definitely a mixed bag and depends on your team, your client, and even your PM, DL or EM to ensure a positive experience for all. Even when I was at Accenture and I worked with other consultants from other firms on the same project, I didn’t find it beneficial haha. So much drama and politics!
ooo this tech consultant is so cool! i have never heard about this. i love how inches u r. and u r very confident and knowledgable in ur field. i found u from the women of youtube and i really learning new info from u. and ur channel is doing so well. XD btw found u from the women of youtube when i asked u about how long u making u thumbnails lo. dunno if u remember me lol
Thank you so much, OMG! ❤️ I remember you! My thumbnails are still a work in progress, but if you put in the hard work, you’ll learn in the process and improve!
These are amazing tips Christine. And honest truth e.g. getting the training from a credible place like Microsoft. I think upskilling in certificates before isn't valued as much as experience though. What do you think?
It depends! Majority if you have experience you’re good, but in the eyes of the client, they think certifications in TECH means you at least KNOW what you’re talking about and not doing this on the fly or not in best practices. Also, if I was certified in a field but have no experience (like as a college/uni student), it has gotten me projects simply because I am certified. Of course we have mentors that are experienced, but it just helps you get over the starting point and adds some credibility. So at least it gives me a way in!
@@ChristineWong Ooh I think that's true. I'm thinking about it from going into consulting perspective since the firms usually train you up. That's awesome, understand where you're coming from!
Haha, certifications definitely still help, though. In tech, for experienced hires, they may expect you to have the know-how but otherwise you’re back to square one. Like if you’ve been doing Oracle and now you want to do SAP. Different animal. Also, at least at Accenture, if we see you’re certified, you have a much higher chance getting in since you save the company money but also they know where you would fall in the organization - especially if it’s a strategic growth area.
I will be covering this in depth in another video, but there are so many! You can go to another consulting discipline, another consulting firm, to the client side doing what you were doing as a consultant (what we call internal consultants), to the actual industry you've mostly worked in, any tech company, an IT team in any company, venture capital, a startup or entrepreneurship. SO many! Some even retire to become an independent consultant (work your own hours) for clients just to kill time and make a little income.
Hi, I’m really wanting to get into cyber consulting. How would I go about getting involved. What certifications should I go after with an associate degree in computer science.
When you say cyber consulting, do you mean cyber security consulting? There are a lot of security certifications that can help a lot and employers desire so I would definitely look into the areas you are interested in and have high trends! They tend to be more technical so I would be prepared for that! I would suggest you to network with other cybersecurity professionals and see what they recommend and even look at job listings and see what they look for to see real time what the market is looking for!
Security is a very niche area, I wouldn’t be able to help you in that area, but I would focus on the subject matter area of cyber security and go from there. The consulting part would show through your soft skills and experience/project based work!
@@Maidenariell you’ll probably need a certification to show you know your stuff but talent ops could definitely be used to showcase the soft skills needed for consulting! You just need to package it up together!
Hey Christiane, I want to apply for an internship at Accenture, I am Business Administration with informatics student and currently I am learning trailhead and basic python, also have few experience on MS office. I really really want to get an internship there. What advise will you give me before I go ahead and apply For trailhead which area did you learn and how long ? Thank you a lot for making this kind of videos
Salesforce consultant, and I did it for 3-4 months but not as long to actually take the certification. You should definitely try to do some networking with some Accenture consultants in the office nearest to you! If Accenture hires from your school, make sure to hit up the campus recruiter and build a relationship with him or her!
On trailhead collecting badges is the only thing I can do for now but no certification. I am trying to add workers from Accenture on LinkedIn because that only possible way to contact people from there . Can you please make a video on the interview of Accenture as intern and what to prepare for before interview.. what kinda of questions to expect and how you will get hired ??
You can use my videos on how I got my job at Accenture. Unfortunately, I didn’t come in as an intern, but it’s exactly the same way to prepare for it as the full time job minus the case interview.
Note that some intern interviews may include case interviews as it varies, so it’s good to prepare for that as well. I hear different accounts on some given behavioral and case interviews and some given only behavioral interviews. Better to be prepared in both!
Congrats! All of my advice would be on this video since you already got the job! th-cam.com/video/uQaxWhdUzcc/w-d-xo.html Training-wise, the company will pay for it. You can network with people (like your interviewers) or the recruiters already at Oracle to see what to do.
Thank you for letting me know! This video came out only 1-2 months after I started on TH-cam, so I was still learning at the time. The volume is lower in my videos now!
I want to add that you do NOT need a specific degree or major to become an IT consultant. Just having transferable skills, experience, and knowledge works. It is an uphill battle because you have to spend more time doing self study but it does work.
Just a suggestion, please use a calming background music or reduce the volume of the music you generally use here. It's disturbing and does not let you focus on the main content
Thanks for the feedback! This video is from two years ago (it’s one of my first videos on the channel!) and I’ve lowered the volume considerably in my videos after this!
Omg wow! How did you get hired at age 16? They definitely see some value in you! What are you doing at Target specifically and what do you have questions on? Is it an internal consulting role?
@@ChristineWong I'm not sure, I made sure that it was clear that I was not experienced. I will call my manager and ask him some follow up questions. I'll keep you updated
