This was really great to see someone progress at one company over time and in different roles. I have so many designer friends who get a few years into a job and feel they need to move on for fear of becoming stagnant. I worked at the same place for 4 years, left and then came back a few years later in a different higher role and haven't looked back since
I appreciate you sharing your journey! It's encouraging to me as I've spent most of my career doing graphic design and I'm definitely ready to take on more responsibility and have more impact. I believe my next step is Creative Director as well.
Great video and path! I’m trying to get to a Creative Director position someday. My path so far has been Account Executive, Digital Marketing Coordinator, Digital Marketing Manager, and now, Digital Content Manager.
Congrats on your promotion!! 🙌Would love to hear more about design roles and your choices. Why not product design? In tight teams the responsibilities and titles can be so blurred. This is a topic I’m facing now that I’d love more perspective on.
Thank you for this helpful video! How did you learn enough to become a Senior or Creative Director while being the only designer? That is a problem I am facing now. Being the only designer, I have no one to learn from and I don't know where to start.
This is an excellent question! My short answer is by learning more about the business metrics my work impacts (I learned from other folks on the marketing team!). For a longer answer, perhaps I could make a video about it!
I love the fun approach to this video, especially when you revealed the board, the ta-da got a crack out of me. Beautifully edited as well. Big ups to you and all the editors that made this possible as well.
Congratulations!! How do you think that Artificial intelligence is going to affect your new job position? Can you make a video about how you use it right now and what are your predictions for the near and not so near future? Thank you for everything!
I’m feeling what you described for the position before your current role… I’ve been in the same studio for more than two years and since the number of people reduced from 6 to 3 including two founders, outsourcing law and accounting and engineering, I need to deal most of them marketing and designing. As the investment reduced, my boss now requires to see the OKR results while still asking me to do many things out of my OKR goals. So I put the goal on the top priority and always tell them I don’t have time to do this and that… As result, those projects are never done and the deadline are always empty (originally I was the one set the deadline and chasing my bosses 😂 About the reason why I’m still here is mainly because I don’t know what I want to do next 🤔
What kind of work did you do as a web designer? I was thinking front end stuff but you threw me off when you said you didn’t code. So like just html/css? No JavaScript?
@@charlimarieTV what tools are involved in designing a website? I’m a full stack web developer so I have no idea where the lines get drawn in the sand between designer/front end/back end people lol. We also don’t have a designer so I’m never handed a “mock-up” or anything like that. I want to know how the real world does it lol
@@charlimarieTV Thanks for the answer. It's funny since I'm more drawn to product design because you can be more creative with the solutions. But it's all about perspective, I suppose.
I've been the primary graphic designer at a niche apparel company - in Asia - for years. I feel like I have completely lost the thread as far as new technology and best practices in the modern design office. Looking to move back into the western market and I feel like a hermit emerging from the jungle. lol
Big congratulations, Charli! Your transparency and openness is always so inspiring 🥳
Thank you so much!!

Congratulations!!
Thanks for sharing this with us... and nice DR3 hoodie 😝
I guess this march is a relic now 😅
Loved that. You forgot TH-cam. Definitely another job. Find me on linked in.

Charli, hire me.

I think you’re thinking of web development! Building a website isn’t the same part of the process as designing a website :)

What interested you more in marketing versus product?
I was more interested in the design problems to be solved in marketing design vs product design! And I find the solutions more fun to create too.
