I jus accepted a technology consulting role where I would be doing a lot of software engineering work as well as more strategy, design, and high level solutions. Best of both worlds :)

I recently joined an organisation as a Tech Consulting Analyst (i'm a fresher who graduated last month). I interned here for a month initially as a web developer....but in the time, I realised that I could provide business solutions as well as technical solutions (basic to intermediate) to my colleagues and other members working on a project with me, so I asked my organisation to make my profile a tech consulting analyst. I'm glad that i chose this profile since it teaches me a lot about business working, technical knowledge, strategy, marketing, etc etc....this is really a great field for someone who doesn't know their career path at an initial phase and want to gain knowledge of various fields and then hop into a proper field...or maybe stay in consulting in the future as well...

The choice is employee vs contractor. You can work as a SWE or any other IT position as either one.

I really like that you said that in the consulting world folks jump in and out. I've gone from Industry -> Consulting -> Industry -> Consulting -> soon back to industry, and I think that spending time in both worlds build a lot of perspective and develops different career "muscles"

Computer science is the study of computation. Think algorithms, data structures, computational theory, programming language design, compilers, operating systems. Software engineering is the field that employs knowledge of computer science to solve practical real-world problems. Think chemistry vs chemical engineering

@@RishabhMazumdar Anything is possible. It ultimately depends on whether you have the tenacity to bite through all the storms in the project and emerge as a better consultant compared to your peers. A partner would have a stake in the company and is expected to bring sales to the firm. Would you be keen on that?

Consultant & Consultant Engineer/ Consulting Engineer are two different words legally. Consultant need not be Engineer. Engineer is a person who holds Bachelor's/ Master's degree in concerned engineering discipline from a recognised University. IT or S/W Consultant preferably should have degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/ IT(Information Technology)/ S/W (Software) Engineering/ related subject/ Math/ Stat.
Whereas IT or S/W Engineer must have degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/IT/ S/W Engineering & Consultant Engineer/Consulting Engineer (IT/
S/W) too same,License as PE/PEng/CEng prefered though not mandatory. Both Consultants & Consultant Engineer/ Consulting Engineer are not regular salaried employment in Co./Firm but self-employed persons who may have many Co./ Firms as their clients & they charge fees for service they render to those Co./Firms. A Consulting Engineer may be in S/W or IT discipline
