The fact that Dave Filoni was able to connect elements from EVERYTHING (Original, Prequel, Sequel trilogies, Clone Wars, and Rebels) is a stroke of genius! This episode was a masterpiece.

@@jasonstrickland9245 You know Filoni had to be influenced by the film Tombstone. Cad was wearing a duster, Boss of the Plains hat, two Colt Navy type blasters. Don't forget Filoni even had Johnny Ringo (Michael Biehn) lose in a showdown against the Mandalorian.

The reactions to Cad have been so fascinating. Everyone who recognizes him, me included, said "OH shit! awesome!" and then immediately after- "Oh shit. ALL y'all are screwed." 😭. I think you're right though about Cobb Vanth taking one in the shoulder. He'll be alright.

Cobb is ok. That's why they showed the townspeople run to him and say "get a medpac!' Also Cobb was shot only once while the dumb deputy got shot up many times. Cad did this on purpose.

The CGI of Luke has improved sooo much since Mando S2 finale. Lucasfilm hired the youtube creator Shamook after he did a really good improvement of Luke in that episode with deep fake technology. Now we see the result of that work. With the level they have reached now.. they can easily do a Luke Disney+ show

Shamook is brilliant and was best pickup by Lucasfilm so far. After the initial 'wow' factor of seeing Luke so real, I started looking at him as an actual character.. the real Luke, and that's a big deal. If you have seen Shamooks work with Solo, you can be sure Han will make an appearance also (would be epic if he joined the big battle that is brewing for the finale)

    • @generalgrievous696
      @generalgrievous696 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

The reason being is Dave filoni and Jon favreau said that the decision to do the CGI for Luke Skywalker was a last-minute one they had about 2 or 3 weeks left in production when they started when they decided that they were going to show Luke's face and not just have him in the shadows talking so that's definitely why this time it looks a lot better they had the better part of a year to work on it versus 2 weeks

"I was not prepared for that." This quote sums up every star wars fan after this episode. I still get goosebumps. NO ONE was expecting this much amazing stuff in the show before the finale. If this had been the finale, it still would have been great but we still have one more show to go?! How can they top this. I predict we'll see Han Solo and Leia. Cad was so perfect. Luke looks great!!!! I want an entire show about Luke training young jedi. I swear I will watch everything F&F make for the star wars universe. They are gods and have brought a dead franchise back to life and made it better than ever!!!

This is why we always pester you about watching Clone Wars. There is soooo much around these characters from that series that hit people hard in the feels. The series is as good as Star Wars gets. Even if you watch it on your own without reactions, it's so worth it. It may look like a slog because of how many episodes there are, but they are like 22 minutes each. And when they are the good ones they fly by way too fast.

I think luke is giving grogu is 1st real lesson and test, I think lukes also using this moment to gauge grogus interest/commitment to being a padawan. luke knows firsthand that attachments are not always a bad thing, seeing as luke kept interrupting his own training to help his friends and sister, it would be to hypocritical for this not to be a test! I think if grogu picks the saber, luke will kno grogu has enough commitment to becoming a jedi and will let grogu have the armor as well! however if he chooses the armor, luke will kno that grogus heart may not be in the right place to train as a padawan, therefore lukes using this as a teaching moment as well as a gauge for himself to see where grogus head is at regarding his jedi training and if grogu is willing to give up his attachments if need be. by choosing the saber it will show luke he is willing to give up whatever he needs to, with all that taken care of and with grogus commitment fully gauged, I feel like luke will let him keep the armor but give him a stern warning of " you may keep the armor, but u need to understand that there is a good chance u may never see the mandalorian again from here on out".

    That was so adorable !
No need to be sorry to be so adorably emotional (or emotionally adorable, depending on a certain point of view ^^) !
Your reaction was probably every bit exactly what Dave Filoni and his gang was looking for in the fans. Bryce dallas Howard had shared on her Instagram last week how ever since she was a kid, she loved going to theaters seeing audiences reactions to her dad's movies, and later the ones where she acts, so she was very moved by all the fans reactions on youtube (showing some channels in her story), and even though the others directors are off from social media, it would totally make sense that they also keep their finger on the fans reactions pulse. I hope Dave gets to see yours, he probably wouldn't be ready for it the same way you weren't ready for this amazing episode 6.5 of Star Wars (yeah, sorry, Boba, you're really just a tiny part of the story in this galaxy far far away, now).
I'd say the choice Luke gives Grogu mirrors well the choice he himself made in Empire Strikes back, when Yoda warned him that he can't go save his friends before his Jedi training is complete, or else he might never become a Jedi afterwards. Now that Luke has been through it all and is wiser, he sees his rashness was a mistake and instead of trying to force Grogu to stay with him, he still gives him a choice. But I think that will backfire, coz Grogu is very much likely to repeat the same mistake Luke did, by choosing to side with the Mandalorian way. After all, we only really learn from our own personal mistakes. He might even pop out in the finale laying waste to the Pykes with his newfound powers, but getting badly wounded trying to protect trying to protect Mando, Mando would obviously panic and go for Luke to try to help save Grogu, and Luke could help, but would tell Din that should he leave Grogu in his care to become a Jedi, Din could never see him ever again. To which Din could either extremely reluctantly agree, OR pull his final ace card, and tell Luke about the history of the Darksaber, and how its creator, Tarre Vizsla, was once both a Jedi AND a Mandalorian, and if there was one such being in history already, why couldn't there be another one ?
That would be the most likely scenario to me. My take is that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni (and to a certain extent, probably Disney as well) have set up the Mandalorian series as a stepping stone (à la Ned Stark for Game of Thrones) for Grogu to become the next gen big protagonist of Star Wars for years to come, half mandalorian, half Jedi, basically becoming Tarre Vizsla 2.0, one millenia afterwards. And since he's of the same species of Yoda and can live hundreds of years, Disney can use him for hundreds of years too to be the new mascot of Star Wars.
    But that's only speculation.
Now, I'm kinda sad that in all my speculation, not once did I think of Boba Fett... He's gonna have a nice duel with Cad Bane, I guess.

Cad freaking Bane wow he looks so awesome in live action, of course Corey Burton brings the character to life with his iconic voice but honestly the physical actor (who I assume is most likely a stunt double) was surprisingly very accurate and faithful to how he was animated in both Clone Wars and Bad Batch, the actor both had to wear a bunch of layered clothing AND extensive prosthetics but was able to bring across just how ruthless and imposing Bane can be, the combination of that with Burton’s voice fully brings Cad to life and imo it worked practically perfectly

I really love how these spin-off series weave together with the Mandalorian's story. They may be setting up a season 2, but my personal theory is that these stories are short to provide background on the main characters, and then they will all roll back into the main Mandalorian story/timeline. Either way, I love Love LOVE everything I'm seeing on the small screen.

Wow, so pleasantly surprised you know who Cad Bane is Magy. Looks like to got to catch up with Star Wars content outside of what we could see on this channel, good for you. I totally agree that chosing one of the options is not great, especially considering that there was already a Mandalorian who became a Jedi (Tarre Vizsla) which even the Armorer mentioned. Finding and buying that T-shirt was probably a sign for this episode.

I doubt it because they told the people around him to bring him inside....Yet great to see Cad Bane in live action just Terrifying the way he looks.. Just awesome I'm extremely happy.. You had the same reaction as me to seeing Cad Bane walk up. I was thinking, no, it couldn't possible be him! Then he gets close enough and you know it can only be him
I was worried that Grogu wouldn't even know that Mando had come to visit..I'm pretty sure he'll go back to Mando, but I really wish Luke wasn't being as Draconian as the old Jedi order and allow Grogu to still hang around with Mando and become a Jedi too
(I grew up after the OT and prequels reading what's now called the Legends Star Wars books, and they were more free with their Jedi. Luke even has a wife and son - Mara Jade and Ben Skywalker)

R2, Grogu, Luke Skywalker, Ahsoka, and Cobb Vanth, characters who each on their own made me jump and cheer like a 10 year old boy, BUT the second I saw the “Stanger” in the distance with the duster coat and badass hat my heart started to race and my breath was stolen away, because I knew that only other person in the Galaxy who could truly challenge Boba Fett for the title of deadliest man in the Galaxy (who is not a force wielder) had just entered the game. CAD FREAKING BANE!!!!!! I also loved seeing Ahsoka and Luke finally together👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. I just wish we could see the first time they met and talked about Anakin, maybe we’ll see that as a flashback in Ahsoka.
The one thing I didn’t like though is that Luke gave Grogu an ultimatum of either being a Jedi or a Mandalorian. I know that the Jedi are not supposed to form attachments to anyone but it was exactly Luke’s attachment to his father that brought Anakin back to the light and saved the Galaxy. Maybe it’s to foreshadow how Luke needed to reevaluate the rules of the Jedi and make a new and more open minded code for them to live by.

Hey, Magy! Guest star-a-palooza this week! Favreau and Filoni pull out all the stops and show the powers that be just how it's done! This is my take on EPISODE 6:
COBB VANTH played by Timothy Olyphant returns to lay down the law against some Pykes "Deadwood"-style on the outskirts of Mos Pelgo!
Din travels to a lush green world.
R2-D2 greets him and guides him through bamboo groves!
Force-lift fake-out reveals a swarm of ant-like droids laying the stonework for a rustic Jedi temple much like those on Ahch-To from "The Last Jedi".
Artoo shuts down to shut Din up while the droids quickly assemble a bamboo bench for their guest.
    LUKE SKYWALKER and GROGU!
Mark Hamill voices an incredible deep fake and body double rendering of Luke that looks scarily real if more "A New Hope"-era than "Return of the Jedi"-era.
Grogu's still got a taste for one-eyed frogs but Luke blows the little guy's mind when he force-lifts a buffet's-worth of them from a nearby pond!
    Love the little Force-hops!
    Talk of YODA!
ORDER 66 from Grogu's POV! Still no revelation as to who saved him...
AHSOKA TANO played by Rosario Dawson startles Din from a doze and dissuades him from reuniting with Grogu.
Din leaves the Armorer's gift with Ahsoka and departs but not before being sensed by Grogu who poignantly reaches out to his starfighter as it takes off in the distance.
    TRAINING MONTAGE!
The student has become the teacher as Luke echoes Yoda's aphorisms, exercises and wisdom.
Jedi training is like a gymnastics class! Lol.
Luke breaks out his lightsaber for some sword practice to dazzle Grogu.
Using one of those training laser modules that Kenobi employed in "A New Hope", Luke puts Grogu through his hopping paces as the sphere snipes at him.
A winded Grogu cheats a bit and shorts out the module.
Luke feels Grogu is REMEMBERING more than he is LEARNING.
Ahsoka sees ANAKIN in Luke! Swapping Anakin stories is a scene I'd LOVE to see!
Ahsoka leaves Din's gift with Luke and departs for her own show or to lend Din a hand?
BOBA FETT gets a scene in his own show! Will wonders never cease?
Din arrives at Jabba's palace for a strategy session with Fett, Fennec, Krrsantan and the mod squad.
Pykes are running rampant as Ithorian Mayor Mok Shaiz is off-world on a "scheduled vacation" according to the major domo who is being bullied into compliance.
Din has an idea on where to recruit bodies.
En route to Mos Pelgo, Din passes a Jawa Sandcrawler with a KRAYT DRAGON skull strapped to the top! It's gotta be the one they killed on Season 2 of "The Mandalorian".
In the Mos Pelgo saloon run by the same Weequay proprietor played by W. Earl Brown, another "Deadwood" alum, Din makes his pitch to Vanth.
Vanth is rightfully reluctant to commit civilians to a battle with well-armed gangsters even if there could be a windfall for the town but he promises to put the issue before the community.
As Din departs, the hackles go up on the back of Vanth's neck as a stranger with a slouch hat purposefully strides in from the desert. Hey, that's what the title is about! Lol.
CAD BANE, the deadly Duro bounty hunter, debuts in live-action voiced by Corey Burton who portrayed the animated iteration from "Clone Wars" and "The Bad Batch"!
His gravelly voice offers Vanth a way out if he promises neutrality against the Pykes but it's time for a Sergio Leone showdown!
Quicker than a flash, blasters are blazing! Vanth gets clipped and his deputy gets dusted. Bane claims Pelgo for the Pykes! Is Vanth down for good?
Two Pykes walk into MADAM GARSA's club with a camtono. Her Twi'lek servers make the customary offer of a helmet polish bribe but they decline and leave abruptly.
The breathtaking Jennifer Beals looking more delicious than ever watches them leave with some apprehension before the camtono they left behind EXPLODES destroying the club! No, Jennifer! Say it ain't so! The message is clear: do business with Fett and die!
    GROGU'S CHOICE!
Luke presents Grogu with Din's beskar chainmail gift and Yoda's lightsaber. Foundling or Padawan? Mandalorian or Jedi? Attachment or detachment?
What Master Luke fails to see is that there is PRECEDENT for both: TARRE VIZSLA!
And Din could certainly use some Jedi training, too, if he's ever going to master the DARKSABER!
The big question is how can they possibly wrap up this story in one episode or will it end as a cliffhanger tease for "The Mandalorian" Season 3?
Directed by DAVE FILONI and co-written by FILONI & FAVREAU!

7:16 Fun fact: That is Sabermaster Cin Drallig in the Grogu flashback.
He was an amazing instructor and the head of the Jedi Temple Guard. His live action in the prequels was played and inspired by Bob Anderson (he has a brief cameo duel with Anakin/Darth Vader during Order 66 when Obi-Wan is looking at the security footage of the fall of the temple.) Bob Anderson is a master swordsman and fencer and was the stunt choreographer of the Star Wars movies, The Princess Bride, Lord of the Rings, The Mask of Zorro and many more.
Cin Drallig was actually a "boss" you had to fight in the Episode III videogame of Revenge of the Sith. The story is about how Vader kills him.
Grogu's flashback actually showed the clones killing him which is an interesting change in the new Disney Canon. (Like, they could have almost showed Hayden in the background as Anakin if they really wanted to..)

Luke making Grogu choose, he's making the same mistakes as his predecessors 🥺🤦‍♂️😣😔. In the age of the Old Republic, the Jedi Order _encouraged_ attachments, especially marriage. And when they stopped, they lost focus on what was happening in the present, and became arrogant, hypocritical, and other things 🤔😔😓. This is one of the things that brings about the events of the Sequel Trilogy 🤔. Hopefully though, Rey Skywalker will keep from making those same mistakes 🤞🙏.

Why hasn't anyone thought it would be cool for Boba and Luke to meet again years after the events of "Return". Clearly, Grogu's decision will be the reason for Luke to be there. They wouldn't have shown all that instead of showing it in Mando S3 if they weren't driving Luke to be in the finale.

Luke verbalised two choices for Grogu, but they aren't the only two choices that exist. Perhaps that is the lesson for Grogu. Unspoken Choice #3, the one not made available for choosing is to have BOTH items. This choice was removed by Luke, but Grogu could ask why?. Choice #4, the one completely in the power of Grogu, and that is to reject both gifts, until a 'better' choice becomes available.
When presented with choices, never assume they are the 'only' options.

Incredible episode but we were robbed of Ahsoka & Luke's 1st encounter.
Her discovering that Luke was the child of her brother and fallen mentor. Luke discovering Ashoka was his father's pupil and confidant. Then the emotional outpouring of them sharing their stories of Anakin's tragic fall and ultimate salvation.
Just think of a scene where Luke discovers Ahsoka lurking around the Jedi Academy looking for Grogu. Then an epic saber fight between them because Luke believes her to be Grogu's hunter.
Then the expression on their faces when they finally discover who each other are. And the revelation of their relation to Anakin.
Then Luke and Ahsoka sitting across from each other around a campfire at night. Ahsoka sharing stories of her mentor before breaking down when she comes to tell Luke about Anakin's tragic fall. How she lost him. And how she's still plagued with guilt and regret for not doing more, feeling that she could have saved him.
Then Luke stopping her. Letting her know that Anakin turned back to the light. And he WAS redeemed and saved in the end.
Seeing that lifetime of weight and torture suddenly lifted from Ashoka's consciounce would be so moving.
They would both be weeping. Possibly embracing. And the whole viewing audience crying along with them.
It's a GIANT missed opportunity if they never cover that encounter and discovery. Even in flashbacks it would be a step down from it happening in a present story.
It's almost as bad if not worse the famous line that almost entirely encapsulates Disney Lucasfilm's storytelling problems - '' Somehow.....Palpatine returned ''.
Let's hope they don't do the same with this story. And they instead effectively share that encounter in the Ahsoka (or possible Luke) series.
Besides that, what a great, emotional episode. Brilliant in so many ways despite not showing how the two Jedi masters met.
Luke, Grogu, Ahsoka, Cad Bane - all holy sh*t moments.
And more importantly, Filoni seems to have markedly improved as a director. He gave us a good, effective reveal with Bane. Unlike the nothing reveal he gave us for Ahsoka in her live action debut.
The man worked on his craft since last we saw him and it bodes well for his position in future SW projects.
It's hard to top last week's episode. But they did. And resoundingly so.

    • @LindsnDarth
      @LindsnDarth 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I like most of what you are saying. I'm hoping they cover that meeting in the Ahsoka series.
Respectfully disagree that this was resoundingly better than last weeks episode. I somehow found the least exciting portions of this episode to be the majority of the Luke and Grogu scenes. I was much more pulled in by Cob, Mando, Ahsoka, Cad, cantina bombing, etc. Luke on screen for the season finale of Mando was perfection. Here I felt it dragged a little with the meditation, etc. I did like when he used the training remote and when Grogu was finally jumping around. And the unlocking his memory and the Jedi purge scene was fantastic and only missing a quick shot of Anakin to make it perfect.
I really like Filoni but I wish he would have left how the Jedi temple is built to the imagination. Ant droids were, ehhh. Maybe it's not supposed to be a Jedi temple and just a school I guess? I just imagined the force being used for that work. Another huge missed opportunity was if we got some hints of Leia training there as well. Even if we didn't see a face. Imagine Luke, Leia, Ahsoka, and Grogu putting that school together via force.....

Cad Bane is a legendary bounty hunter and the best draw in the galaxy who will work for anyone if the price is right and the Pykes hired him and so he is working for them. Also Cad went to Freetown to make a point and the deputy got in the way and the end result is he dead and Cobb survived(he was lucky because if Cad wanted Cobb dead he would be dead).
Also Master Luke was changing anything he is offering Grogu the same choice that Yoda gave to young Luke in Empire Strikes Back when YL had to choice between staying on Dagoboh to train with Grandmaster Yoda or to go to Cloud City to save his friends and the end result of that was Luke lost his hand, learned that Darth Vader was his father and almost died in the process when he fell from Cloud City.
Also I bet that Ashoka and Luke meet awhile ago and talked at length about Anakin off screen and that is why they didn't talk much and Ashoka knowing 2 generations of Skywalkers is a sight too beyond.

  • @kevingibson393
    @kevingibson393 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I believe Grogu will choose the armor because, as Luke stated, Grogu will outlive Din so he can always train as a Jedi after Din dies. That being said, I believe Din will ultimately go to Mandalore and bathe or drink the Living Waters of Mandalore. The Living Waters will accept Din enabling him to claim he's a true Mandalorian. I also believe that before Din can stop him Grogu will also bathe/drink of the Living Waters and also be accepted as a Mandalorian. This will enable him to become the next Mandalorian Jedi. Now after his Jedi training I don't think Grogu will go after the Dark Saber because that would mean he would have to rule Mandalore for the rest of his life and I can't see that happening.

Great episode . great story and pacing. My only real issue is the depiction of Luke in this episode - Mostly his teaching method - not him as a character. Let me explain; One of the reasons the Jedi and the Republic fell was the fact that the Jedi became stagnant. They didn't evolve and it wasn't because they "couldn't, it was a choice to stay ignorant. They believed themselves above any kind of deception or anyone being more intelligent them them as a collective that a Sith Lord was right under their noses for decades, looking them right in the eye and lying right to their faces.
Because of this complete ignorant stubbornness they never changed the way they taught their young. for thousands of years they just used the same method, never even considering that each youngling or Padawan might be receptive to unique circumstances; they just spit out unindividual copies of the last generation and so on and so on. Luke was only the second to be "unique." He needed unique training but got the same old copy/paste nonsense that FAIL the previous generation. THAT is a failing of Yoda's. Now understanding this for Luke to just regurgitate everything Yoda taught him is counterproductive. He should understand that Grogu shouldn't NEED to make a choice, because there IS no choice. Grogu isn't one or the other exclusively; he's BOTH. Blending and accepting THAT is the best way for Grogu to move forward. Luke of all people should know this.

@@lgolem09l And you really think that he went 30 years and only ever saw Yoda after Rey showed up? Of course he knew why the Jedi fell. He most certainly got advice from Yoda's ghost telling him how THEY failed and that Luke would need to train a new type of Jedi. Believing that Luke was completely unaware of this is just poor imagination. He knows exactly why the Jedi fell.
