    I've found that using the scissor jack that comes with the car + a small piece of 2x4. You can place the jack and piece of wood in the bell housing and it will split the case with ease and without damage!

      Interesting idea, I'll keep that on mind if I ever have to open a case again

    I need 2 know how 2 remove main rear bearing on the shaft.

      If it's a pressed on bearing you would most likely need a specialty press setup to remove it

    What kind of a noise did you hear, in what situations to determine it was a bearing in your transmission? I am chasing down a sound in my 08 legacy gt- 5 spd: when I’m in gear and let off the gas I get what sounds like a bearing noise, but after replacing the pilot and throw out bearings 2x I still have the noise, I also replaced the trans with a JDM used one

      I would get a grinding/rumbling noise when in neutral, it would go away when the clutch was pressed. When it was at its worse I would hear it at very low speeds with little to no load in 1st - 3rd. Never had any noise under load or at speed

    Have a crazy whining noise coming from tail housing where driveshaft enters... Would that be a bearing? Input shaft bearing? The noise increases under load like going down hill or accelerate

      Most likely a bearing yes. Usually bearing noise that increases under load points to output shaft bearing but that's just a rule of thumb. There are a bunch of bearings in there, sometimes you really can't be certain until you pull it apart and have a look

    hey a quick question, on the tail part of the transmission, the small casing that houses the center diff what is that called?

    • @TwoFourSevenDIY
      @TwoFourSevenDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The whole housing? It's called the "extension housing". Or just the cover? I don't know if it has a technical name, I just call it the end cap.

      is called transfer case

    • @TwoFourSevenDIY
      @TwoFourSevenDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically it's not really a transfer case since it is not separate from the rest of the transmission and is all one unit.

    There a part infront of the main big bearing behind fifth gear. Do you know what part that is. I’ve been searching for it forever

    So what ended up being the actual issue and can you provide part numbers for the bearings?

      Part 2 and 3 are linked in the description. Part 3 has the Part numbers in the description.

    Hey im having trouble findkmg transmission parts ? Any help is appreciated

      Well, I used to use opposedforces.com but unfortunately they let the site domain expire as of May 31st. So now best suggestion I would have is Google one of the part numbers I used ... that should bring up a bunch of Subaru parts sites (every dealership has their own parts site) just select one and you should be able to select the exploded parts diagrams and look through for the part number your after.
      Edit, I just clicked the link above, and it's working. Looks like they renewed the site!

      @@TwoFourSevenDIY thanks alot man , that helps tons , also , I know u can't diagnose from another place. But if I'm hearing a wining noise in all gears , louder in 1st and 5th on accel and decel would that kost likely be bearings? I gear it thru the shifter knob in the car , thanks again

    • @TwoFourSevenDIY
      @TwoFourSevenDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Is it a new noise? ... keep in mind Subaru manual transmissions do have a bit of a whine to them because Subaru uses semi-straight cut gears.
      If it's a new noise, then yea, I'd say could be a bearing wearing out, hard to say what one though.
      You could try both decelerating with shifter in neutral and shifter in gear, if you only hear it deceleration in gear then it would indicate a bearing on the counter shaft (output shaft inside the trans) or the output shaft (shaft in the extension housing).

      @@TwoFourSevenDIY man thank you so much, i got the car not long ago and it's had the sound the whole time pretty much , and it is pretty faint so for right now I'll call it normal but I'm going to do a fluid change in a little bit and if there's anything weird there then I'll look into it more or if it gets louder haha , thanks again man

    • @TwoFourSevenDIY
      @TwoFourSevenDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No problem. Sounds like it's just normal Subi noise to me.
      I'd just drive it and enjoy!
