    Greg,
    Enjoyed this lesson .
    I have a question, why do you not name the notes in the shapes you are teaching? I personally want to know the note, because then as the "shape " changes the notes we are using does not, so finding the new shape makes more sense. All on line teachers push learn your finger board, but then never reference note names when teaching patterns and shapes.
    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

      Hi Judy, I’m glad you enjoyed the lesson.
      There are three ways to really learn your fretboard and the construction of chords:
      1. Learning note names
      2. Learning fretboard shapes
      3. Learning intervals
      This particular lesson is mainly about learning the shapes. As someone who had played for over 30 years, I still use shapes a lot when playing. That’s the beauty of how the fretboard works.
      Now knowing the note names is also important so I suggest you do that by reading the notation for the exercises or spending time playing the arpeggios very slowly and naming each note. The only way it’s going to really sink in is if you do this yourself.
      If you watch a lot of my lesson then you’ll see that I name notes in certain lessons.
      I hope that helps you understand the learning process more.

    is that a short scale bass you're playing there, or am I on crack?

    • @GregsBassShed
      @GregsBassShed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No you are definitely on crack! On a serious note, it has a 34" scale but I shoot my videos with a wide-angle lens so when the fretboard swings away from the camera it makes it look a lot smaller (including making my hand look tiny!).
