Bought this a few weeks ago, since then it has been printing almost 24/7. The print quality as stock is excellent, can't wait until I get some upgrades on it.

What's the learning curve like for an FDM 3d printer compared to a resin one? I've found my cheap resin one really easy to use, but filament looks like a minefield with all the nozzle options, leveling, temperature control and stuff.

It's very easy to use. I put it together, downloaded Ultimaker and downloaded a few files from thingiverse and I was off to the races.

Looks pretty good. The large size does give more flexibility for printing bigger things, so that's kind of a plus. Looking on the web site, it is capable of printing more than PLA, so that's another plus. Biggest negative I see for this and the other very inexpensive 3D printers is not having an enclosure. That works OK for PLA, but if doing ABS or some of the other materials, not having a more controlled temperature environment leads to a lot of warping of the pieces and also layer adhesion issues in some cases.

I've had mine for over a year now. I paid $460 when it first came out. I can understand that the plastic crossbar can make people itch, but it's there for a reason. It acts as a resonant vibration damper. Similar to the dual Z axis POM carriers for the Z nuts. If you look closely, you can see that the bronze Z nuts are floating in the carriers and the system works very well. I run mine from the USB port on the right-hand side via a Raspberry Pi running Octoprint. The biggest benefit to me of this printer and the reason I bought it was how quiet this machine is. We live in an apartment and it has to live with us in the living room. It uses a 32 bit controller and silent drivers for the steppers. It's still not silent but it's orders of magnitude quieter than my old Ender 3. I effectively wore out the coating on the fixed glass bed and I now use a 300x300 Garolite/G10 2mm sheet and the aforementioned glue sticks. It's a lot easier playing around with glue sticks if the bed's removable and you can run it under the faucet. I modded my machine to get the spool off the top and that reduces the apparent size of the machine. A spare entire print head assembly can be bought off Amazon for around $55 and I upgraded it to metal for high temp operation but I've found that the only filaments I run are PLA, TPU and PETG because they don't stink and they give me all the mechanical profiles I need (why would anyone run ABS when you have PETG). I have a suspicion that this will be my last 3D printer. I use mine for making the things we need, not for the fun of 3D printing.

Ok, I can see where this gadget could be fun, even just whipping up little toys for the grandkids (are this strands nontoxic?)… but what’s intriguing me - what is that white light, stage right, that lights up periodically? I was going nuts trying to figure out what was triggering it to flash on and off? Oh, look, something shiny! (It’s a movie reference, guys)…

Haha, that's one of my 20 security cameras. It lights up when there is movement. The PLA is food grade.
