      In Germany I still cannot configure the new iMac (I think this counts for whole Europe) - it says, ordering is possible at the midth of may. So I don‘t know the exact possible features. But I guess there will be no performance and configuration difference to the M1 MacBook, right? Except two more USB ports and those funky colors and a bigger display. I belong to those, who like the new design, but I guess I will wait for the M1X/M2 iMac, because I already bought the M1 MacBook Pro with 16gb and I am really happy - first Mac and do not regret it. 👍😎

      This is a great guide. But what do you think about buying a top spec'd 16" M1 MacBook Pro right now compared to waiting for a top spec'd iMac later this year? Will need to change up my workstation soon, as after effects and photoshop is struggling on my late 2013 mac pro.

    • @MaxTechOfficial
      @MaxTechOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hakonmarcus I would not recommend buying a 16” right now since we’ll get more powerful Apple silicon ones soon that will be icy more power efficient (better battery life) and cheaper too. Buy an M1 MacBook Air (on sale with our link in description) and resell it when the new 16” comes out you’ll loose barely any money where 16” ones will dump in price as soon as new ones come out.

      @@MaxTechOfficial Oh right, I see the 16 isnt M1! Thanks. Buying on behalf of the production company I'm working for so reselling isn't that easy. How long do you think it is before we get the new 16"? Will it be significantly better than the new iMac? Portability is nice but not essential.

    • @cartilagehead
      @cartilagehead 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I disagree. I think a lot of the less popular colors are going to hold their value longer once the line is retired/changed, and they’ll definitely have higher resale in the future. You currently see this with G3s, that said nobody should be thinking “collector market” when they think about reselling their iMac

    • @plexoduss
      @plexoduss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cartilagehead I agree, I think 5 years down the line people will pay more for a pink than for a silver one because of the specific color. Sure you miss the buyers who don't want that color, but you need only one and a bit of taste on the menu is always welcome. I'm curious though how the color will fade if it's in the sun a long time.

    • @cartilagehead
      @cartilagehead 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@plexoduss there was an article I recently saw that said similar things about cars. Everybody thinks that buying silver cars gives them the easiest/best resale, but it actually also depresses the value, and can make it harder to find a buyer if there are lots of silver cars to be had. Somebody seeking out an interesting color is likelier to pay above market rate and overlook minor damage/higher miles/etc.

    Good observations here! Thanks.
    With respect to RAM, since it’s just a one-time-only $200 expense, I’d definitely get 16GB. If it were an on-going cost (hypothetically, $10/month) that might be different.
    Perhaps it’s a question of how long you intend to keep it. If you plan to get a new Mac every year, then it effectively becomes an on-going expense. For me though, spending an extra $200 once every 5 years is no biggie.

    Since this video was uploaded, there is another difference between the base model and the higher cost models. The base model only sports a single fan and the more expensive models include additional heat dissipation "plumbing". More recent TH-cam Videos give details, my understanding of the summary is that the base model may have more fan noise and will for sure slow it's performance when heavy CPU activity is sustained - similar to the base M1 Air comparison to the M1 Pro Macbook. So, as concluded, the casual user will do well with the base model, but if one is going to be doing any significant and sustained activity (Xcode, Games, significant Applications translated into client based WebApps, or Pro Editing), the $200.00 includes the visible upgrades (ethernet, 2 USB-3 ports and increased color choices) becomes a bargain, IMHO.

    ok, this was the video I should've looked at before buying the 2021 24"imac with only 2 thunderbolt ports... I'm a professional photographer that uses photo mechanic, adobe lightroom for editing... I also shoot video, and asap will be adding final cut pro as an app. ... my current imac is an old mid-2011 with 16gm of ram & 500gb of hd storage. I currently have 7 external hard drives so ALL of my photography catalog is on those external drives.... I have a 10 port usb hub connected to the current mac to support all the hard drives, and use Comcast as my ISP... I did my research on getting a refurbished mac off apple's website, and amazon, and was told by a photographer friend of mine to make sure when I buy an upgraded mac it included the m1 chip as all my dslr's are full frame, plus I just bought the Nikon z6ii mirrorless camera. The old mac is not reading the mirrorless raw shots... and I'm told thats because it requires the apple's m1 chip to do so... I bought this off Apple's refurbished page, Refurbished 24-inch iMac Apple M1 Chip with 8‑Core CPU and 7‑Core GPU - Silver, but didn't realize it only had 2 thunderbolt ports and no usb ports... (mistake)... I was going to return it (it's still within the 14 days policy), and get an imac with the 2 thunderbolt & 4 usb ports, plus an internet connection.. .. I'm debating on whether to get this one..... 2021 Apple iMac (24-inch, Apple M1 chip with 8‑core CPU and 8‑core GPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB) - Silver and just adding the OWC Thunderbolt Dock with Thunderbolt 4 Cable. .. with whatever I get, I don't plan on upgrading to the new mac once they come out next year..... I think the 256 gb hd will be enough since it's pretty much only for apps and not much more. Everything else will be on my external hard drives. ... your suggestion on what to buy...

Already have a magic keyboard and Magic Mouse from my old MacBook Pro that I'm trading in, so I'm not missing out on many of the accessories. I do wish my keyboard had the Touch ID, but the second monitor is more important to me than the Touch ID keyboard. Recently, the screen started to show black lines as the macbook heats up, and spend basically all day on my computer, either working, or watching videos/Netflix and sometimes playing ESO, all these problems are getting me really frustrated with my mac. I believe nowadays, and specially because of the pandemic, I can work from home without the need to have a powerful laptop, so that's when the new iMac came to my mind. I considered buying a pc desktop, but I'm extremely reluctant in coming back to Windows, which I definite hate a lot due to bad past experiences. A 24" is more than enough for me now, and I hardly believe I'd like a bigger screen for work, so I was wondering if it's a good idea to have an iMac now, and maybe next year buy a macbook air in case I need a portable computer.

    Great job. You provide a wonderful service to the "non-techies" and "mild-techies" in the crowd providing great balance to all the "hype". I'm finally upgrading my late-2014 27" 5K iMac with the fusion drive (I think it is about to "time-out" on full updates to MacOS due to its elderly age). It has been a "bulletproof" machine for me, although the performance has always been kinda slow for high-performance uses. So, I "pulled the trigger" and just finished ordering the orange 16GB/1TB model with the numeric Touch Id keyboard. I do a lot of photo editing and a bit of video, so the great hi-def screen has always been a joy, and now there will be the processing power and speed to support these and all my other use cases. I probably could have/should have stayed with the 8GB/512GB choices, but I wanted to "future-proof" the machine and could afford it. Sounds like others in your comments are thinking the same way. Also got the 13" MacBook Air 8/8/512 in December and am thrilled with it, so I'm really looking forward to the same type of blazing performance on my "big machine". I honestly do not see the need to wait for the new M1X version for my use case.

    I ordered the iMac as soon as preorders went live but because I was rushing I didn’t realize you could upgrade the keyboard (I’m a numpad guy) until after I ordered. Had to cancel and reorder and I went from an estimated delivery date of 3 weeks to 4-5 weeks. Had I watched this sooner, I would’ve realized I could upgrade the keyboard a little earlier and maybe would’ve been able to keep the same delivery time. But oh well.
    Ended up getting the silver, 16gb ram (for photo work), and decided to opt for 1tb ssd.

    I have a lot of photos and my old MacBook pro is full. I have spend so much time trying to take photos out of my photo-library manually and is tired of how it works/I set it up. So when I buy the new imac I need a better solution to my storage (either 2tb or an external storage). So:
    1. Is it possible to use the external drive you mention as the primary place to have the photos/library
    2. If so, does it work as good as if I had saved it on the Mac itself?
    3. How do I then make backup?
    4.can I later move the photos to another Mac (plug and play) or?

    Hi Max, I love your video. I am a professional opera singer recording at home using an UAD Apollo x4 and their Luna workstation. I using their Shape to do some song writing as well using some strings, piano, trumpets ect - I do use 3th party plug ins from Izotope, fabfilter and of course of UAD for my vocal recording. For my own recordings I mainly use 2 tracks orchestra or piano and add the voxal - so as you see I am not using a lot of tracks but do use heavy plug ins of Izotope and 1 reverb from UAD capital chambers (maybe you've heard of these things - Now, about the computer. I am using now a Imac late 2013 - 8 G - 256 SSD -- It does the recordings good although when I am composing and use midi round 8 tracks + 2 vocals and add the Izotope mastering plug in the computer starts to stutter....This is a late 2013 Imac and I am certain it cannot be compared to the Imac 2021 --- my question is: if I would buy the imac 8 - 8 - 512 - would that be enough or do I really need the 16G _ I asked the store but they not know anything about professional music stuff - and they said I can't return the computer if it is not working - plus, even if I want to upgrade as you mentioned that is also not possible. Hope you know something about Universal audio and Luna and Izotope to help me for my kind of use on my way.. Thanks in advance

    I just don't know what to do. Either upgrade the RAM or go for more storage. Then I'm leaning towards more ram since 8GB seems so little and then I'm leaning towards more storage as I'm already using more on my current mac and I don't have the money to do both upgrades. I keep asking myself will this Imac last me at least 6 years for normal home use and some photo, video editing with only 8GB? Some say yes and some say no. Who to trust. Next to playing The Sims I don't play any games on a mac and I also don't want to run windows on it either. I switched to mac years ago because windows and me are not a good match.

    Hi MaxTech, I currently have a 2013-vintage Core i5 21.5-inch iMac, 8 GB RAM, 1.0 TB HDD running MacOS Sierra. I use a Logitech keyboard and mouse via USB-A RF adaptor. In the past, I would occasionally plug in a FireWire 800 external HDD as a scratch disk when running Final Cut Studio 3 (FCP 7) using a FireWire to Thunderbolt 2 adaptor, and also another adaptor to plug in my FireWire camcorders (I have a Canon HDV 'corder and an older MiniDV 'corder) to access my old tape stock. The only newer cams I currently have are a GoPro Session 4 and an iPad Mini 2. I am currently kicking around the idea of replacing my 21.5-inch iMac with a new M1 iMac or waiting for the 14-inch M1X MacBook Pro (which would add power, ports and portability but also require I buy an external monitor for my desk setup). I'm intrigued by the hubs you showed in this video, but I'm also concerned about finding a way to connect to my older camcorders. Software I often use: Microsoft Office, Demo LabelWriter, Apple iWork, Apple iWeb (still using it to put up some web pages), Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, InDesign, Illustrator). I still have iPhoto installed on my iMac, which I consider to be superior to Photos. I use Photos and hate it. iPhoto had vastly superior searching abilities. I'm frustrated there. For still photos, I use a Canon Digital Rebel T3, a Canon pocket camera, and smartphones. (Thinking about buying a "renewed" iPhoto 8 off Amazon.) I am also intrigued by the possibility of installing Windows 10 for ARM on a newer Apple Silicon Mac so I can use Microsoft Access, Publisher (people occasionally send me Publisher files), AutoCAD and other Windows-only GPS/GIS software.

    I thought about waiting for a 27", but the '24 is already going to blow away my 2015 iMac in every way, especially for Final Cut Pro work in 4K video. All decked out with max upgrades its going to run me $3000 pretty much. But you know darn well a 27 inch is going to push that up into a $5,000 purchase, and thats just TOO MUCH. It will be a great machine but I basically just want a lot faster machine than what I have now, and the 24 inch will relieve a lot of pain, waiting for an hour video to render.
