Oh I definitely agree. Listening to all 3 at similar volumes I still think the 27” iMac sounds better overall. I relished to them yesterday evening just to make sure..
Most importantly, why are we comparing the 24" entry level model to the 27" high end models for sound? Shouldn't you be comparing to the old 21.5" iMacs?
I’ll play devil’s advocate and assume maybe they meant “best speakers” to mean “best speakers for the proportion”. Tbh though, I think it’s just marketing.
@@JWil97 this is what we have to compare though. Based on this video the 24 sound cleaner. And it’s meant to replace the 21. When the replacement for the 27 comes out I’m sure it’ll blow this one away which it’s more defined sound.
To me the standard 27” model has exaggerated bass which is making the miss very muddy. The 24” has less bass, but is more balanced. The iMac Pro has avoided the muddy mid range and is the best sounding.
On the "best sound ever from an iMac" comment - well... there are a few points to consider: 1. Balance across the frequency range 2. Loudness 3. I would definitely want to use the iMac's speakers for test playbacks to see how balanced my recording is when NOT played on pro monitors. I think the speakers are very accurate and that there is an even response across the frequency spectrum. A lot of our evaluation of "how good something sounds" is based these days on two or three factors, the main being loudness and how much bass you can hear (or feel). To my ears, the older iMacs are a bit "bass weighted" so they can bring out bass sounds a bit more strongly that would be expected for such small speaker space, and so they will seem to have more "punch" when playing popular music (and dance and EDM, which I even make, myself), but *in my own opinion*, I prefer an even balance across the frequency spectrum - what we often call a "flat" response, because that is better to base the quality of a mix from. Anyone can turn up the bass on their own, after all. So, this is just my ruble, but I think I can understand the basis upon which Apple makes its claim. Admittedly, it comes across strange to most of us because this machine certainly does not have the punch or the bass, but, I like the accuracy I hear. Great video as always, Vadim!

From my perspective of working as an engineer for over 35 years (now retired) Apple really missed the mark of integrity for not disclosing that the base model only has one fan. From a design perspective I don't understand why Apple chose to delete the fan that cools the M1 processor. Why not delete the other (left side) fan if it was so important to save a few dollars. (Perhaps that cooling fan is more important??) It appears that Apple purposely removed a fan that would impact performance. Apple should have revealed that in their marketing literature. As such, I give Apple a "D" in integrity. Thanks for your video and for revealing the shortcomings. Apple should immediately apologize for not informing potential customers of loss in performance of the base model.
I agree with your comments 100 percent. Have been using Apple desktop computers since 1996, and I am not suprised by their actions. Live long enough and, we have all seen this move a million times before: for example come out with a space gray Intel mac mini but, remove its GPU so it will not power your own new 30-inch $5,000 display, then upgrade your operating system, and your top of the line Blackmagic eGPU has to be removed from your Apple web site because, it no longer works properly with the new operating system...give me a break.
you might be forgetting that the macbook air has no fans at all and nobody complained about its performance. also, the left side fan can blow air throughout the entire logic board and provide better overall cooling at the cost of less direct cooling for the processor, but since arm doesnt need active cooling, its a moot point. this is designed to be a quiet, aesthetic, everyday machine. losing one fan should not be a deal breaker, if you want the best performance for m1, get the mac mini or wait for a actual professional device with m1x.
@@cameronbosch1213 ....and? If the macbook air limits itself to remain in thermal constraints, thats smart because of the fact a laptop is likely on your lap when used. No one likes roasted nuts. But on a desktop, which you wont be touching, the temperature of the case means nothing. As this is designed to be an aesthetic and functional computer, it can afford to run a little hot, and subsequently have a hot chassis, to have a quieter or less powerful cooling system. If you are doing anything that pushes the chip to the point it gets too hot and throttles, or the single cooling fan isnt enough.....why did you buy the base model of the computer not meant for professionals? I purchased the 13 inch macbook pro base model, I had no use for it as a pro machine, I only purchased it instead of the macbook air because the 13 inch pro has signifncantly better battery life and a better screen. That was worth the extra money. Having active cooling and better performance was a bonus, but I wasnt using all of the power the Air could offer in the first place.
@@cameronbosch1213 that's a bit of a reach, on your part. It's not going to fry itself. Apple is known for sacrificing cooling in favor of less noise, but the machines have been running all this time despite high temps. But ARM is a scalable technology and can be adapted to any need. It's just taking time. You may not like Apple, but they haven't forgotten the pro creator business.
@Hardware Software again you're kind of forgetting that the M1 can be passively cooled. The left side fan does blow air throughout the logic board and keeps things from getting to critical temps, around 110 degrees Celsius. 90 is hot, but not critical, and again since the iMac is a desktop, no one is touching the chassis, at least not for a long time, maybe just to grab it and plug in a cable. It's not a "wireless cooler," it's just chassis cooling. Not as effective as directly attached to a heat pipe, but it doesn't need to be. Also, the Mac mini is priced as a cheap and easy way to get a Mac but they were never weak. They never had dedicated graphics, but they made excellent machines for standard video editing, Photoshop, and also made good servers. People buy multiple Mac minis and send them off to sever rack companies to be connected together as batch render farms. It makes sense for the Mac mini to be a better pro machine than the iMac, despite neither having pro in the name.
Especially after seeing the blue 24" iMac in person, I am actually a big fan of the design! Wouldn't mind if the larger version looks the same and gets a ton of colours too!

@@aninditabasak7694 If it runs "totally fine" without a fan then why do they put an additional one in with the more expensive model? Apple disagrees with you.
For Launchpad, go to your Preferences and then Mission Control. From here you select Hot Corners. This is way faster than a button and that's what I've been using for years for things like Start Screensaver, Show Desktop, Mission Control. I laugh when people complain about the magic mouse charge port and not being able to use it when it's charging. The mouse lasts 2-3 months on a charge, and 10 minutes of charging will give you a days of use if you somehow forget. A few times a year, plug in overnight and you will be good to go. So people want to wreck the daily design and aesthetics for something that is only used a few times a year. It's not like an electric car that needs to be plugged in every night or a lawn that needs to be cut every week.
Max, Thank you for this informative video, The warning about the fans or lack thereof, specifically the presence of only one fan in the entry level 24” monitor, the resultant heat generation and fan noise led me to cancel my order for the entry level 24” iMac and get the more expensive model with two fans and 8 cores, hoping for a silent user experience. You are a great source of actionable intelligence, a fountain of wisdom of all things Mac! One final thing, the app for turning down the fan is one more thing to worry about and may degrade the parts of the iPad over time in subtle ways that you may not have envisioned.
@@Diminish12 its been fine - I did get a hub so I could use my circa 2015 Apple USB keyboard which has more key travel than Apple's newer generation keyboards, all of which I don't like. I have a 2nd gen Magic keyboard that I use w/my iPad. It's OK. it has more key travel than the one that comes w/the M1 Mac. I'm almost 69 years old and can't get used to minimal key travel. I use the keyboard it came with for only one task, pressing the touch ID button. So I have two keyboards, one legacy USB keyboard in front of me and one sitting on the M1 stand w/in reach to press Touch ID. I don't see an issue w/the four ports. The issue with the ports and the noiser fan is with the lower end model. I got a powered hub because it was more convenient than buying usb-c to lightening cables.
I never would have thought to ask the question about the fan(s). I just ordered the highest end version with the 16gb unified memory and 1TB storage so I'm assuming I have the two fan model. Thanks for the thorough review.
For your launchpad, just set up hot corners. I set up the bottom left corner of the screen for launch pad so I just swipe my mouse down there and I can easily access all the apps. Much faster than the keyboard shortcut anyway, in my opinion.
Thanks to this super review I now know: - I can subscribe to channels on youtube - I can watch another video after this one - All iMac speakers sound exactly like the speakers on the iPad I'm currently using
The additional fan was a huge reason we got the higher end model…my 2019 MacBook Pro is the lower end model and it does get hot, so while I’ve never had any problems with it…we thought it would be better to be cooler…you want it to be happy and cool. (We also wanted more memory, etc.) Just got it, and dude!!! The colors are half of the fun!!! (But, I guess that’s why they still make a silver one…my husband didn’t care what color it was, lol…I was all over the yellow one!) Looking forward to playing with it!! Haven’t had a Mac Desktop in…wow…20+ years. (First computer my parents got was the brand new Apple II+…green screen, 5 ¼ floppy disks, dot matrix printer and all…and so cool!) When I saw the computer for the ‘countdown clock’ was an Apple II+ (on Lost…greatest TV show ever if you haven’t seen it) I laughed so hard! Perfect.
In my personal opinion, you should ALWAYS get the ethernet option. Having an ethernet cable will always be faster and will always be much more stable than wireless.
super review. One of the best I've seen. Is it me or are the mics in the new imac rather muted? Every review I've watched seems like I would want to crank the volume of those mics.
What’s going on with your charts? During the section where you’re explaining how much slower the base model is your charts are showing that it’s faster. And then just after that when talking about thermals during the Red render the chart says ‘(Min:sec - lower is better)’.
I feel that those who complain about the chin and bezels should look at the rumoured 32" iMac, as the 24" iMac is not a pro machine, it's just for those who want a great overall experience doing basic tasks.
I bought this 21.5" Intel iMac in summer of 2020 after some hard saving to try and get back into the world of Mac after a few years away (last was entry level model purchased in late 2010). Of course, I went on to learn the timing was unlucky as later that year they refreshed the line with SSDs as standard then in 2021 dropped the bombshell that was the new M1 iMac. Needless to say, I knew this was gonna be a gamechanger so I've been saving my rear off for almost a year and it's finally happened. On Sunday night, I purchased the mid-tier 24" iMac with trackpad and 16GB RAM for extra longevity (this one I actually expect to hold onto at least until support is dropped). Didn't need the larger SSD and that's the only different with the top end. It's coming on Thursday. I can't wait. Sucks that the included stickers are too big for the front but maybe some that came with iPhone might be small enough. That's the only design choice that I really dislike. The fact that they chose to remove the logo from the front as that area just feels naked without it. It makes the chin stand out more.
Hi, love your videos! However, I want to point out as a professional recording engineer, that the comparison of the 3 units in the video is flawed because the volume of the two 27'' iMac Pros is louder than the M1 iMac volume. This alone will subjectively make the louder units sound "better". The levels should be matched using a sound level meter in order to get a fair comparison.
I gather that most users that are really concerned with audio quality don't rely on internal speakers. I have not seen comments anywhere about adding external speakers, which ones sound best and especially homepods. I happen to think a couple full sized homepods would sound excellent. I assume pairing would be done via airplay. Also, is it possible to pair the homepods and keep the internal speakers running too. Any comments based on real life experience would be helpful.
I finally got one of these and like you said, the sticker is too big but I remember I had a iPhone 12 mini sticker in the box and low and behold! It’s the perfect size.
I wish apple would make their mouse more ergonomic in addition to moving the charge port. The Logi MX Master 3S is my mouse of choice as it fits my hand nicely
What I learn from experience, Always get the most powerful one, it's better to pay a few extra to get the extra features. You'll never know if a year or two from now your interest and hobby change and enjoy making videos and editing, when it does you gonna regret not getting the best of the best.
I love my new 24" iMac. The camera is horrible though. It makes you look yellow. I hate buying peripherals but I'm definitely going to have to buy an external camera. It's just too bad for Zoom. It's a shame bc otherwise it's a fantastic little computer & I'm more than happy w everything else. Nice review btw but WAY TOO MANY ads. I'll avoid from now on.
Your explanation Of the fan difference between the base and the higher end imac was very helpful. Also your graphic that showed the 4.5 K red render gave me tangible stats. Thank you. Had been back and forth, but that was the piece that cemented the decision to buy the higher level

This video single-handedly made me cancel my order for the base model and cough up $200 more bucks. Couldnt spend the extra extra on the 16gb though, gotta make sacrifices somewhere lol
Again another excellent review. However, the more I see of the new colorful new 24-inch iMac's the better the older discontinued space gray 27-inch Intel iMac Pro models start to look.
Incredibly helpful information. Thank you very much. I actually had a 24' iMac in my cart on apple's site while viewing this. The 24" is just not going to work for me. You are a good dude.
My main goal is to have a new Mac computer that is absolutely, EXTREMELY "FAST". What is the specific configuration of M1/M2/RAM I should have to achieve this?
I'm confused, shouldn't the charts at 12:10 and 12:25 be switched? They're showing that the base model is a lot faster than the high end model Edit: also at 17:33 I guess the charts should also be flipped
At 17:34 you show the lower spec, Base M1 8GB doubling the speed of the 16GB M1 at Exporting RAW stills in Lightroom. Is this accurate? It doesn't jive with what you're saying about adding more Ram for photo processing.
by the way I play 4 hours and zero noise I have the base and the speakers sound amazing I keep you guys update in my channel if iy ever heats but I don't think so
A $1200 2021 computer beating the piss out of a 3 year old $15,000 computer is unreal. We are now at the point where if you are spending over $1500 for a computer you’re probably paying to much.. that’s awesome.

I love the look of this new version. The stand, the screen, the thinness ... Looking forward to buying one very soon!
I’ve been listening to music on it all day. It sounds great!!
Yes. Thanks for mentioning the buyers guide at the end. Basic office work and most students will not need beyond the base model.
I agree the single fan on the base model is a dubious decision by Apple.
M1 runs totally fine even without a fan.
How has your M1 been so far? Have you needed to plug and unplug lightening ports since it only has 4? Did you get a USB hub to fix this issue.
I finally got mine
thats the model i currently have! how much better is the new one? does it have an improved graphics card? mine is currently radeon 6750
I never would have thought to ask the question about the fan(s). I just ordered the highest end version with the 16gb unified memory and 1TB storage so I'm assuming I have the two fan model. Thanks for the thorough review.
Exactly what I needed for my sons iMac purchase. Thank you so much...
People want to complain about everything. I personally think it is a beautiful looking machine.
Well done bro, you definitely deserve that one million subscribers milestone, good luck on that!
Thank you!
As a tech-o-phile, by 13:45 your review had made up my mind to not buy this compromised design, thank you for doing the hard work 😓
Nice video I have a beautiful 27 inch and I’m wondering is it worth it? The screens on the 27 inches were nightmares.
For your launchpad, just set up hot corners. I set up the bottom left corner of the screen for launch pad so I just swipe my mouse down there and I can easily access all the apps. Much faster than the keyboard shortcut anyway, in my opinion.
Glad to see that you watch The Chosen 👍
I came here to say the same thing! Be blessed brother!
FANTASTIC show.
Thanks to this super review I now know:
- I can subscribe to channels on youtube
- I can watch another video after this one
- All iMac speakers sound exactly like the speakers on the iPad I'm currently using
The additional fan was a huge reason we got the higher end model…my 2019 MacBook Pro is the lower end model and it does get hot, so while I’ve never had any problems with it…we thought it would be better to be cooler…you want it to be happy and cool.
Not to mention healthier.
Спасибо вам за обзор, у вас самые качественные обзоры,не знаю понимаете ли вы по-русски, но в России вас сморят. Удачи и поскорее набрать 1 миллион.
Спасибо большое за поддержку!
Thank you, that's what most of people thought. Honest unbiased opinions are always appreciated.
super review. One of the best I've seen. Is it me or are the mics in the new imac rather muted? Every review I've watched seems like I would want to crank the volume of those mics.
Mine arrives Friday, glad your comments are not show stoppers. Good review, thank you!
On the bright those that paid for an upgraded processor will feel like they are getting a worthwhile upgrade.
This will be my first computer, is this a good buy especially getting the 16 GB?
What’s going on with your charts? During the section where you’re explaining how much slower the base model is your charts are showing that it’s faster. And then just after that when talking about thermals during the Red render the chart says ‘(Min:sec - lower is better)’.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that saw this haha
Thank you for doing this video, it really helped me make a decision..
I feel that those who complain about the chin and bezels should look at the rumoured 32" iMac, as the 24" iMac is not a pro machine, it's just for those who want a great overall experience doing basic tasks.
@@BTMoviechannel I edit 4K videos on my M1 MBA and it’s amazing
Of course it’s a pro machine. The upper tier one that is.
I love that the apple logo is no longer on the front! It looks way better and compliments minimalist interior design like i prefer.
Mac is op and max tech is ultra op 💯🦁
Yes, I agree. The chin looks unfinished.
Can you check to see if you made a mistake in the comparisons between the 2 m1 systems at time stamps 12:12,12:25 and 17:36 please
I finally got one of these and like you said, the sticker is too big but I remember I had a iPhone 12 mini sticker in the box and low and behold! It’s the perfect size.
Still rocking my core i5 2009 27 inch imac with zero issues
I wish apple would make their mouse more ergonomic in addition to moving the charge port. The Logi MX Master 3S is my mouse of choice as it fits my hand nicely
The Chosen!!! Best series ever! :)
Nice to see "The Chosen" pop up on your screen there Max 😀
It's so good!
In 2023 - what would you suggest for day to day professional use:
1. i7 Intel iMac 2020 or
2. M1 iMac 2021
The chin also puts the actual screen higher up without making the stand look disproportionally long. It’s actually a good design choice.
Is the M1 fast? Worth it ?
The most useful video that I've seen on the new IMac. Thanks a lot.
NOTIFICATION SQUAD WHERE YOU AT?
What I learn from experience, Always get the most powerful one, it's better to pay a few extra to get the extra features. You'll never know if a year or two from now your interest and hobby change and enjoy making videos and editing, when it does you gonna regret not getting the best of the best.
Yes, I fully agree with you on Apple's consumer line of computers always get the top model with max RAM.
The best one you can AFFORD, of course
I will be purchasing my first imac next week. (purple).
Which external speakers would you recommend if I chose to IMPROVE sound quality and/or loudness of this M1 iMac?
17:35 The graph show the base model got better performance then the higher end model
Important point about the fan missing on the lower model!
Where is the link regarding the fan?
Watching this on my iMac. I love it, I can finally play Sims 4 at Ultra settings
How do you know what version has one or two fans??? Thanks for your help.
Your explanation Of the fan difference between the base and the higher end imac was very helpful. Also your graphic that showed the 4.5 K red render gave me tangible stats. Thank you. Had been back and forth, but that was the piece that cemented the decision to buy the higher level
di]ont dude dont listen to this TH-camrs dude this guys get pay to make you spend more I got the MacBook Pro 14 inch thinking that I would use all that power then I return it and got a base model iMac on Best Buy for 925 open box complete in original box last night I game on it 3 hours is bs what he said I didn't heard any fan noise in this 3 hours no lag with the MacBook I got lag and even the game close at me what does that mean? the Mac couldn't run it this iMac run the same game smoother no fan noise the speakers for me sound good don't over spend dude ima use my iMac for school ux design and podcasting and green screen this guy is full of it he is saying that you can't do much with this Mac then ifyouu can't even worst with the Mac Pro 14 inch lol he is full of it
Thank you very much for sharing these important points as not many reviewers are showing them.
I got mine at best buy for 925 open box in original box and is way better than my MacBook Pro that I return no regrets it was cheaper 700 less and better I. could play company of heroes with no lag my MacBook Pro 14 lag and close the game lol this was runs super smooth I'm in shock
I subscribed when I saw footage of "The Chosen"
I'm confused, shouldn't the charts at 12:10 and 12:25 be switched? They're showing that the base model is a lot faster than the high end model
Edit: also at 17:33 I guess the charts should also be flipped
It’s the other way around, they used material from an older video that had that mistake
Also on 17:34 8GB ram is faster than 16GB ram
This is the very detailed review I ever encountered! The best!
The video just came out…
Great video with lots of useful information. Thank you. For instance, I really did not know about the lack of the heat sink on the base model.
Yeh, I hate white bezels at first, but after see it real outside, it's so beautiful, it fits in my room, looks very fancy
I love the white bezels, everything in my room is white. xbox, switch, etc so it made sense to get the silver one with the white bezels
Is this a good gaming computer
Great review. I didn't know what size of imac to get. Answered all the questions I needed about the 24". Glad I watched this video.
The speakers sound as good as my 2015 iPads pro! Maybe that’s because I am watching this in my 2015 iPad Pro?
great, great video reviews, greatly appreciate it. Bottom line, will the iMac 24 work for a home music production studio????
Can I use it as monitor for macbook pro m2?
The 24 inch iMac sounds very good but it is not loud enough.
Throw in a few dollars by plugging it up with a Yamaha stereo receiver and a couple of Teufel loudspeakers and your problem's solved.
Is this 24inc m1 worth to buy replacing 27inch 5k retina 2017 ?
I love the white bezels and the big chin. I’m actually disappointed that the Studio Display doesn’t use the same design.
I wanna place order from your link, but not available for Asia territory.
where is the link to the app software please
Hi does the fan make a lot of noise and does it turn on a lot ? Because right now i have one that does that and it drives me crazy 😊
At 17:34 you show the lower spec, Base M1 8GB doubling the speed of the 16GB M1 at Exporting RAW stills in Lightroom. Is this accurate? It doesn't jive with what you're saying about adding more Ram for photo processing.
I've noticed that too))) Probably a mistake in the video, at least I hope so)
by the way I play 4 hours and zero noise I have the base and the speakers sound amazing I keep you guys update in my channel if iy ever heats but I don't think so
A $1200 2021 computer beating the piss out of a 3 year old $15,000 computer is unreal. We are now at the point where if you are spending over $1500 for a computer you’re probably paying to much.. that’s awesome.
I am one of those who hated the chin and white bezels but have completely turned around and like both! I honestly didn’t expect that…
Hi sir what are these gadgets you have connected to the iMac and your stand phone where can I find them ?
Is it normal to wait 4 weeks for delivery buying this from the Apple store?
My 2020 IMac 27 inch has a 1080p FaceTime HD Camera.
Hi, if the MacBook Air M1 doesn't have a fan, does the Imac with the M1 have a fan? Both are not pro options.
Everyone i know who's wanted good sound quality from their computer or tv has had it plugged into a hifi
you will get your 1 million subs soon
Yes
Loudness & bass != quality
This video was very informative and helpful !! Thank you
I am getting the high end model, good thing
What would you say the best all in one computer is?
Excellent review. Thank you.
