Hello, friend, you recommend me to buy this 24-inch imac with 16 ram and 1tb of disk for 4k video editing, my videos are for youtube and facebook and I would use final cut
A lot of people were complaining about the colors and I for one am ready to have things that AREN'T black for once. It's about dang time they brought the candy colors back. I'm ready to not cry and fight with my machine anymore either with the new chip.
This is the iMac for consumers. Hence, the white face. It's meant as an attention-grabber and not meant as a tool. The iMac Pro will have a black face because it's meant for professionals. Professional software generally is dark-themed, so black bezels will blend in with all pro-software. It's easier on the eye for professionals ;) Remember the iMac 17"? The one with the round base and the display on top of it with white bezels? That too was an attentiongrabber designed that way on purpose ;)
damn right you knew what color. yellow looks the best for sure. can’t wait. it’s literally the perfect on set camera tethering computer. I want to make a pelican case for it.
I’ve been thinking the same thing! This thing is so light that it could be mounted on anything with the VESA adaptor. Absolutely perfect for tethering. I have one of Pelican’s specific 27” iMac cases and it’s fantastic but giant and expensive to get on a plane. I’m sure they’ll make one for the 24”, and it’d be the perfect machine to travel with too when you need to do onsite editing
I have been waiting for something like this to come out. My old iMac has done a great job for the last 7 years, however backing up my iPad and iPhone has progressively getting slower. And for a long time I haven’t been able to make videos. I miss it more than ever. I was thinking Mac was overpriced the last few years... now this... I’m seriously blown away. I haven’t been this excited about Mac for a long time,
The fact that this new iMac is so good makes me really, really excited for the computer that will replace the 27" model. That should be an absolute beast of a machine. I was not sure about the design of the computer at first but the more I see it, the more it grows on me. It's a good looking machine.
Didn't watch MKBHD nor Dave2D iMac reviews in FULLSCREEN... The moment I start watching this I subconsciously Shift + F... Incredible work Monsieur. Respect.
Also love 1:50 when you emphasize MacOS big sur's window design aesthetic that creates 'depth', especially for a tablet-like thin display the new iMac's got
But... I personally prefer the older 'iPhone Camera review' style videos where you blast through the basics that most are aware of, and really get into the details covering your main theme 'Photographers and FilmMakers'
@@xers6704 Most people doing color correction are focusing more on white balance than black balance. Having a neutral white right next to your screen is helpful as an easy reference.
@@xers6704 It doesn't have to be white, grey is still neutral. The same reason why you'll see grey OR white cards used during white balancing but never black cards. Black doesn't really work to compare tints against.

I went back to PC 6 months before the m1 chip macs came out but I still don't regret the switch back. For me PC made a lot of sense given all my interests and the flexibility of it that I avoided admitting for so long but these new m1 chip macs and especially the new 24 inch iMacs look beautiful and work powerfully. I think in the future I might get a m1 chip mac mini but these new colored 24 inch iMacs look amazing and I really like that you get the option to choose a different color because the color you choose kind of reflects your soul or your personality as a person and the yellow iMac definitely suits you my dude.
I just found your site . I began looking at a Mac Air laptop and discovered the iMac M1. If only I had not seen the Mac mini . The only reason I have ruled that out was that I could not find a good monitor to match the iMac screen . Regarding spec of iMac and decided on 16 of ram , but using external memory as it is more appropriate and way more affordable . As for software : Affinity Photo and ms home /student . I don’t use it for internet as that is what my phone and work laptop is for . The iMac is only for my photography and my writing . As for the colour options I thought the orange , pink and blue look very nice , but chose the silver because it works so well in any environment . The middle grade iMac is the one to choose because of the twin fans and heat sinks . It also seems to perform better over the base unit . Had the base unit had twin fans then I would have chosen it. Seven cores is no big deal in difference with eight , but eight was in Mac mini and I liked that spec . Apple should really consider offering a monitor for the Mac mini , but no doubt ruled that out as it would kill the iMac . I was worried about having all my eggs in one basket as that how it feels with the iMac , but in the real world I cannot match the picture quality for the price if I had gone with the Mac mini. After all, it was the quality of the picture that drew me to Apple . I hope that my deliberations help others to decide on their next Apple machine . Those little laptop air machines are very portable , but they are so close to the iMac in price that if you do not need the portability then go with the iMac . The only reason to choose the Mac mini is if you want a larger screen than 24’’. For my needs 24’’ is big enough . I produce at least three photo books each year and up until now I have done all that off my iPhone using SnapSeed . The quality of those raw and jpeg images on the laptop made up my mind to explore a way to take my editing to another level. Thanks again for the video as it reflected my decisions and my journey over to Apple .

Great review! I like that you focused on what the new iMac can do and showed examples of its capabilities. I'm tired of watching other reviews saying stupid generic stuff like "if you are the type of person who wanna browse the web, send emails, watch youtube, etc. this is your computer!!" it is like WTF!! a 10yo computer (if it has an SSD drive) is good enough for that basic stuff. Yes, maybe this is the basic model of the iMac but the M1 chip performs better than a core i7 in a 3k macbook 15" from last year! only the most expensive options from Intel and AMD can compete with the performance of this thing. I find extremely simplistic how reviewers keep treating this iMac as some sort of extremely basic machine when it is not the case at all.
That small black line inside the white border is exactly how we would process our black and white prints back in the day. Frame and compose in camera then use the border of the negative, simple and effective.
After watching almost every review on m1 imac , not everyone talked about editing and performance for editing photos of 16bit raw but you DID . Congrats you have earned one more subscriber mate :) Keep creating
Colours are personal but the choices are lively and tempting. So pleased you guys mentioned RAM. I have been doubtful about being able to run Resolve, Photoshop and iMovie. 16GB seems to be adequate when matched to the new processor. I’m running a 21.5 with 32GB of RAM, 1TB of Fusion storage with Catalina and it performs really well. I understand the M1 runs off an adaptor, this wasn’t mentioned. I might wait until 2022 when more ports become standard, although the new 24 inch machines look great as they are now.
Photographers, keep in mind that while light editing (adjusting sliders in LrC, slapping a preset on, etc) on the M1(I use the MBP) is very very good. It starts to take a performance hit if you do longer editing sessions, start using the healing tool any more than one or two clicks, or work with larger catalogs/collections. Personally, I’ll be waiting for the M1 Pro/Max iMacs. I’m excited for more RAM!
Honestly, I watched someone else's yellow unboxing (in an all white setting) and I hated it and regretted the fact that I ordered yellow, but your video changed my mind, can't wait until it arrives Friday!

I currently have an iMac 27 mid 2017 with 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, 3.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, adeon Pro 580 8 GB, I find LR Classic and Photoshop takes a look time to open and at times processing the final edit before export. The 24inch iMac you have, can you share the specs you have.
I’m glad you did this review, I’m a photographer that shoot with a canon RP and Sony A7 IV and I’m looking to Vlog and edit pictures so hopefully this Mac don’t let me down 😭
I own the M1 MacBook Air and editing Canon R6 footage feels so much more smooth. As a diehard Windows user, switching systems has a brutal learning curve, but I am sure I will get over it soon. Maybe next year, I will get the iMac with the new M1X processor and maybe a bigger screen.
I have an R6 as well, exclusively shooting photos though. I'm considering the imac to replace my Asus 2015 zenbook. How's that learning curve going? And have you tried out using DPP 4 on your Macbook air?
@@elliott9052 It is alright and I am kinda getting used to it. It like some stuff about the Mac OS and some I find really annoying. I only use the Canon software to download the photos and videos from my camera to my harddrive and then I use Capture One or Davince Resolve. Both work just fine!
They keep the bezel white to match it with the keyboard and mouse. If they have made the bezel black they would also have to make the keys black and I don't think that would look very apple.
Finally somebody who isn't coming off all negative about these new iMacs...one youtuber in mind...also has red hair, literally was complaining & complains but like these machines aren't meant for pros, their meant for the vast general public and i agree with everything apples chosen to do with these new machines.
Wow. That webcam is really good. I have a 2017 iMac and it has been great, but like you mentioned the new cameras with compressed codecs put me back to the proxy workflow. I didn't think an iMac would work out as well as it has and now I'm looking forward to the more pro version. It will probably replace my 2017.
Is there a VESA mount option for the new iMacs? And, if so, does Apple sell them in matching colors? If there isn't a VESA option, how would someone still remove the stand but mount it to, for example, a Fully monitor arm?
Did you notice at all that the color of the chin messed with you while editing photos??? Like in regards to white balance or anything. That’s my only drawback in getting one of the colors. Thanks!!!
Even though I like green, yellow would work best with the decor. I want all in one computers to be awesome especially since space is at a minimum living in NYC, but allot of them are just crappy. Even if you are just trying to get normal business work done. No photo or video stuff. Just online stuff and normal processors. But I do think if I get this Mac (or Max Mini) that I will finally get the stability and power I need to get stuff done.

Great review! Did you get the 8GB or the 16GB? Also, do you think the 8GB can handle 4K BlackMagic Raw on Davinci or should I get the 16gb?

That’s good to know. I’m not the biggest fan of the colors Apple has chosen, but the yellow does look surprisingly premium.

just noticed you still use Quick Time for screen recording, do you prefer it over the Cmd + Shift + 5 screen recording feature by any chance?
For tutorials I use ScreenFlow. QuickTime is just for quick and dirty

I don't like the colors on the front. They can effect the perceived color balance of photos during editing.

I definitely definitely prefer the white bezels after seeing them in video. Black bezels are extremely distracting in a completely white space

LR...all event photographers use it. Large amount of pictures that need to be processed fast. How does it perform?
I would rather see how C1/Lightroom performs when you add a bunch of layers/brush adjustments. That's way more important to me than export time.

Is there a VESA mount option for the new iMacs? And, if so, does Apple sell them in matching colors? If there isn't a VESA option, how would someone still remove the stand but mount it to, for example, a Fully monitor arm?

Did you notice at all that the color of the chin messed with you while editing photos??? Like in regards to white balance or anything. That’s my only drawback in getting one of the colors. Thanks!!!

Even though I like green, yellow would work best with the decor.
I want all in one computers to be awesome especially since space is at a minimum living in NYC, but allot of them are just crappy. Even if you are just trying to get normal business work done. No photo or video stuff. Just online stuff and normal processors.
But I do think if I get this Mac (or Max Mini) that I will finally get the stability and power I need to get stuff done.
I'm trying to figure out how to load the photos in since it doesn't have a media slot.
