My dad was a welder and machinist by trade and at one time back in the late 40's and early 50's he had his own welding business. He retired in the 80's and is now gone from this world and I miss him every day. The thing he always told me he wanted me to learn from him was to never be afraid to do something new. He never let us kids get away with "I can't" without trying. Don't limit yourself. This is why I am a new subscriber. Love what you are doing here.
Hi Martin, I am a city and guilds NVQ apprenticeships assessor and have been involved in the motor trade all of my life. I heard the negative comments someone made with regard to your welding abilities, whilst I would urge a cautious approach and remind you that the welding on this area of the van is an integral part of its safety, however as you have progressed your welding had improved with each video so well done for that. I really enjoy your vids and never forget you people out there we all had to start somewhere and learn our trades and I know my learning came from actually attempting these jobs. Keep up the good work Martin. Cheers mate.:)
Thanks Steve, as you know, this was my first attempt and that was 2 years ago. I'm a lot more confident now and have done more welding like in my Capri restoration videos recently. Let me know what you think. Cheers Martin
I have the same mk6 transit van with similar issues that has gone from a clean MOT last year to £800 ex VAT worth of welding work which has failed the MOT this year. I try my hand at everything & have always fancied a little fabrication & watch your videos has given me the confidence to have a go myself;)
Im here watching your videos again im currently welding my mk6 up when its not raining that is i watched some 2 years ago when i last did some welding to it brilliant vids thanks 👍
you know the thing I like bout your videos is that you have a nice outlook and a positive thinking ! You don't judge and I think that is one of the best things you can have ! Keep on keeping on !
I've been watching your videos for a few months now and find them really informative and entertaining. So much so I'm now a subscriber. Forget the comments from the loser who just wants to look good by putting others down. Truth is, you're being creative and having a go and that's good enough for me! Keep up the good work.
Great video martin i too am a novice welder (16 year old) trying To weld up a classic mini as my first car and videos like these help alot on the do's and dont's of welding cheers!
Hey Martin, great videos, I watch all of them, wish I had a dad like you, you seem so nice! Don't worry about the trolls or let them effect you at all. :)
ive never welded before myself and watching your videos has inspired me to have a go.i dont mind having a go at mechanicals and bodywork but welding always seemed a bit specialist. your doing a great job with that transit. Anyone can troll using a keypad or give negative comments but i can learn more watching your vids than many proffesional guides.they tend not to show the mistakes that beginners would stumble upon. great job and well done
+briggaskin Cheers bud. I know what you mean about watching experts. It's easier to understand seeing a few mistakes as you said and that's why I do these vids to help other people like me. Cheers Martin
Hi Martin, we all start somewhere with anything we do. Enjoying watching your progress so far!. If you have any gaps to fill with weld a flattened length of 22mm copper clamped behind the gap lets you fill the gap with weld and the weld doesn't stick to the copper. It also acts as a heatsink :)
Nothing to do with this vid but thanks to you I did some mech work on my Mondeo which I would not of attempted and the job worked keep up the good work you've help another average Joe thanks again
Hi fella i think your doing a great job and your welding quality has got much better as the videos has gone on, take no notice of negative comments your having a go thats the point! Your videos are an inspiration to a lot of budding repairers/enthusiasts or just most of us that don't/can't pay £600-£700 welding charges! Keep it up mate your doing great!
Hey, thanks Karl. Yes, I don't bother listening to those negative people, I just block them. It's all about having a go at something that is a learnable skill and saving lots of money on repair bills. Cheers Martin
"Gotta go theres going to be war" haha. Ive got to say martin this vid has put a big old smile on my face. Ignore the negativity your doing a grand job there only jeleous that they cant do half the things you can. You inspire loads of people to give things a go and you have defiantly inspired me to get more involved in gardening ect. Your a true gent and keep up the cracking work. Andy
Hi mate, your video's are absolutely brilliant. Nice to see someone who just takes their time to show the average joe like myself how to go about doing these types of repairs. Please keep up the good work. All the best.
Dont worry about the the negative comments - there will always be those - as you say, block the abusers as they add nothing. You've done a lot of work in making these films and they are of high quality (I am an ex editor of a newspaper), entertaining, honest and highly educational. Yes you can ramble on a bit, but that gives one time to look and digest the work involved and appreciate what is being done, as a total amateur it gives me time to understand a lot of work goes into stripping down the transit. Watching the "american style" vids in which everything is done in 3 mintues does not give you time to absorb the level of effort that is put into such jobs. With what you've done if a "proper" garage charged 500-600 quid it would not be the highest price in the world as one can see 1-2 full days work is involved. One comment/question I have - I watched one you tube video where a guy repaired the rust holes in his old Corsa (on the european mainland where different standards apply!) with expoxy resin and some material (am not sure if it was fibreglass, but sometimes he used metal). I spoke to a friend who knows about chemicals and he confirmed that such "dry welding" is possible and acceptable (!) and modern expoxies are very hard - as hard as metal - he pointed out boats and planes are made from such resins, but somehow and not convinced. Maybe it possible - I wonder if such a repair with expoxy would pass a UK MOT? Once again well done a a great series of vids and congratulations to your camerman and video editor, I enjoy watching every episode so far. PS. One other question, do you know about the corrosion levels on say a Mercedes Sprinter as and thinking of buy a 1999 sprinter or transit - a transit is half the price, but I fear that the corrosion levels on fords are worse than mercedes. DO you have any opinion
+Richard S HI Richard, Thanks for your comment. Trolls get blocked and I don't waste my time with them full stop. I wouldn't know about chassis repairs with epoxy's but I do know a lot of new vehilces use them. I am the cameraman and the editior as well as the producer ect lol. One man band lol. and yes, I leave a bit of rambling in as well haha. I don't know about the Sprinter but I now know Transits a lot more now as a result of doing these vids so I know where to look for rust to find a good one. Thanks for watching Cheers Martin
Forget the idiots that wouldn't know spanner from a screwdriver.its guys like you that spend your time to do these videos to help others to gain the confidence to attempt repairs ourselves . It's a joy to watch the vids.
Great video , really helpful , I recently bought a mrk 6 transit and thankfully it's not to bad , I didn't relise they were so bad in certain areas from rust! , so I'm glad I came across your youtube videos , well done for your step by step guide Really enjoying watching these , thanks Bruce from Scotland .
Dont worry about the Trolls, they just say crap to get under your skin. Welds are fine, so long as there is good penetration it does the job, if you care about what it looks like, grind down the excess till smooth, you can see spaces that can be filled if you want to. Remember, from factory is a spot weld every few cms, yours are a continual weld, that alone makes it stronger than factory. Driving the van 5 years from now and saving the money you did will put a big smile on your face. I'm sure you will treat the underside with rust inhibitor each summer so the rot will not return. I subscribed to your channel based on the positive encouragement you give to others, that pays off to someone who may have had doubts about his/her abilities, try it and see, and it does spread. Nice to see you have taken down your Christmas decorations, I remember a Santa Sleigh at the top, was summer? I always look forward to your Vids Martin. Say hi to Sharon, Jimmy and Gary and Tracy and the rest. Brian
Brian Percival Hey, Cheers Brian, Yes, I think it's just pointless giving out negativity, that's not what my vids are about. There's so much negativity on normal TV and we have no control over that but here' we do so I just delete and block any negativity. There's nothing wrong with constructive criticism but negative comments help no body. Cheers Martin
I wish I’d seen these vids before I started doing my mk 5 ten years ago. I now have a Clarke welder like you and all of my welding has been done on drive. I have treated myself to a decent set of snips and a fire retardant overall. I would also wear clear safety glasses under my welding mask as I’ve had sparks bounce round and hit my face inside mask. Thanks for doing these vids - I know they’re not recent but still loads of mk 6 s about! Great series!
Who do you use for weld gas - Garage’s use argon co2 mix but you need a contract. My welder was running on pub gas co2 which is a bit more splattery, but for an annual tidy up around mot it’s not worth getting a contract.
I do this work myself as a business and I am a qualified welder to be honest it is not the easiest job to do when you are working with rust and thin metal you keep up the good work you are doing a great job. Gary
Scudo Camper I think most of us regular youtubers get them every now and then but ignoring them is the best policy. They are normally saddo's. Cheers Martin
Been watching your videos as I'm Gearing up for a big patch up job. Comments like that would kill my confidence and I hold onto stuff like that being the sensitive soul that I am 🙄 glad you have a thicker skin than I have!
Great Video Martin as always, always good to gain and share knowledge, just trying to get motivated to do the final bit of welding for MOT on my mk6, trouble is that wretched front inner wheel arch splash guard, with chunks of foam everywhere, better put fire brigade on speedial !! looks a great job your doing on those inner wings on yours, Keep the videos coming .
well said mate. your doing great! loving these videos! just bought myself a diahatsu fourtrak and its great to see someone with balls enough to take on this sort of job! have missed alot of your vids, its good to be back on board!! keep up the great work.
Yeah man i like your videos you are very cool and better than you think dont let those assholes get you down because there are plenty of them, you are doing a great job! and we appreciate your videos! I used to live the in UK for about 22 years moved back to South Africa and brought back with me an old rusty VW LT 28 Camper and have lots of rust to fix hence wathching your videos thank you so much learnt some cool stuff and still watching much appreciated Sean
Thanks for all your videos, I'm well hooked. your an inspiration to me and many others.I gave up work last year to care for my disabled wife, but love to tinker with things, occasionally making me some extra cash. Keep up the great work your doing, and if I can help with gardening tips, I will, but as you know it's usually a case of trial and error. Many Thanks Martin. Regards, Dave R.
Dave Reid Hey, thanks Dave, as long as my vids can inspire people, I don't mind making mistakes if it helps people. We all make mistakes and grow with them and i've had some great tips from people like yourself who enjoy what we do. Thaat's good enough for me to make my vids. Thanks again. Martin
I'm enjoying your Video's as i have a couple of holes in my Mk7 & i will tackle them myself especially after watching your vid's i use to watch Ed China fixing cars, but i prefer your video's as you show everyone how it realy is. Keep up the good work...
I love these videos so keep em coming. Like you im a enthusiastic amateur welder, painter, mechanic, The feeling i got when my escort sailed through its MOT after i had welded in a new floorpan, inner/outer sill on the drivers side was fantastic. So take no notice of the trolls, im sure your van will be good enough to get a ticket from the ministry man and give years more service. if it hasn't already, im working my way through theses vids at the moment.
Hi Martin. I am a self taught welder and am about to undergo similar repairs to my 53 plate transit. We all have to start somewhere mate! I just wanted to say ignore the trolls most of them can't do anything so they condemn what others do!! I've found your videos both entertaining and very informative and must say your welding for a beginner is better than my was when I first started. 1 tip tho and this is no way a criticism! If you're blowing holes on your work move your torch a little faster mate. Regards. Mark
Practice makes perfect welding bud. In my experience I played about with the feed control made a difference for me, also on the patches like under the front windscreem you could tigerseal bonding a small panel tigerseal is awesome, keep the good work up
Hi mate, Thanks for the vids keep em coming I own a 51 plate Transit and just had a £350 garage bill for welding and there was not a grest deal needed. I will buy a welder soon and start learning.
Hi mate, you definitely are coming on well with the welding. Enjoy the videos, I'm currently doing a mk5 smiley face transit, and have just bought a new Oxford welder. to help with all the jobs I've got to do. Keep up the good work mate. Welding gets better and better. I still struggle sometimes, especially upside-down welding.
Hi Martin, don't take no notice of anyone else, you do what you've got to do, from where I am sitting it looks good, only one little bit and don't take it the wrong way, I don't know if you know if you weld and grind near glass, the weld and grinding flash will stick to the glass, best cover the glass, not meaning to tell you what to do, but if you get welding splatter on your van wind screen, that will be a MOT failure.
Thank you for making me late! I started off looking at your first video and now im 8 videos in and loving it. Im late for work but hey ho. Keep it going mate.
The welding jobs you are doing on this transit !!!! Would cost a £1000 +...... A friend of mine has just paid £750.00 to have a very simular job done on his transit !!!! Fantastic work mate !!!!
Hi there love your videos keep up the work I'm trying to do the same job on my 2003 ford transit never done it before but going to give it a go see how I do
Great job Martin "That won't pass an MOT" is a classic line. My car has MOT advisories from rust to bearings come and go over the past 5 years from a couple of garages and all i have ever done is service the engine and underseal the shit out of it. The whole MOT and "Mechanic" system is nothing short of theft from people.
Glad your ignoring the trolls, experts at sweet FA. I think its great your having a crack at it. I've had welding done by "experts" that looked like they wiped snot on it. Someone always used to say to me when I was doing my apprenticeship, experienced people make no mistakes, yet you only get experienced by learning from mistakes. Keep up the good work. :-)
I recently bought a 2005 Mk 6 Transit that has only done 48,000 miles and was surprised how much surface rust there is underneath. Some small holes in the panels too. But, the van looks new! I have picked up a few useful tips from you. A tip for you on welding. Don't have gaps between the steel seams you are welding together or you will end up welding lumpy brittle air bridges between the two bits of steel. Also use the same steel thickness. On the new steel, as the old ie don't try to weld thin and thick steel together (unless you use a Tig welder). You could also consider using an arc welder on the chassis as the steel is thick and arc welders don't mind torrential rain or hurricanes. Regards Phil
Oooh I tell you, it really p#**es me off when people come on and throw a load of negative crap around, you couldn't be any clearer on how much welding you've done, anyway, oooh you've got me blood up! I've been doing "MOT Standard" welding for 30 years and theres nothing wrong with what you do, better than an awful lot I've seen !, what I do on chassis, or if it can be seen is to quickly run round with a flap disc on the grinder to knock the higher bumps down, (typical of overhead welds) so the weld is all one level, don't have to go over everything just knock the high bits down. I say you've done a spot on job!! Good one Martin.
Scott Best Cheers Scott, the troll came back on yesterday and took a pop at another commenter. I had blocked him on youtube but he came via Google + this time so I had to block him there as well. Thanks for your vids Scott, they helped me at least give it a go. Cheers Martin
hi just to say i am enjoying watching you do the transit i am doing my m8 next week with exacly the same problems and if you think your welding is bad you should see mine lol Keep up the good work and if you enjoy doing what you do carry on and ignore the negtive people thumbs up from me
As someone said to me ounce it may not look pretty but its strong . I have been learning to tig weld on my project (wish I had bought a mig) and at first the welds were not pretty but i tried to break them and the metal broke not the weld so all good. sod the trolls you are doing a nice job keep up the good work.
should have seen my welding when i started got laughed out of work shop.you got that fire blanket down peckham lol nice vid .thought that car was going to stop and give you a lift at one point at the end. made me laugh anyways
Hi there, I've watched all your Transit repair videos, well done! I've just bought a 2004 Transit. It's tidy, but like yours it has rusty areas...especially the inner wings like yours! I haven't got a bloody clue about welding, but after watching your videos it's made me feel easy about stripping my bugger down and having a crack with a welder. (I'll need to bloody buy one first!) So well done sir. Brilliant videos, and sod the arsehole who slagged you off for the welding. You've done a great job on that van. Looking forward to seeing the van totally finished. Keep up the great work!
+maestro66uk Hi bud, I'm glad you got something from the vids, like you, I had no idea until I got stuck into it and it was easier than I thought. I'm happy to tackle other welding jobs as well now I have a bit of practice so I hope my vids helped you make an informed decision. Thanks for your comment. Good luck Martin
retrorestore HA......I removed the loose plastic guard in the passenger door step.....only to find a bleedin' hole and loads of wet rust......I can't see me doing a lot with this van to be honest, it's just had a 12 month MOT on it......so I'm just gonna run it whilst it's legal and hope it earns its keep in the next 12 months to hopefully enable me to buy a new/tidier/more solid van next year.
Nothing wrong with the welding. It could be better but it will get the job done. You will only get better with time. Don't be afraid of turning the welder up higher than usual as it with blast through the crud better.
Actually, I've just remembered something that may be useful for people. Check to see if your local council has workshops with MOT facilities - these are open to the public for MOT tests. They will only do the MOT test and don't do repairs - the advantage in this is that they have no interest in failing your car to gain extra work out of you (it also means they may be more willing to do an "advisory" on something that's a bit marginal, rather than fail it, giving you a chance to get it done as and when you can). If you can do your own repairs, or have someone who can do it for you, it could save money. If you have a garage and MOT tester you know and trust, there may not be much of an advantage. They tend to get booked up well in advance, so check a couple of weeks before your MOT is due. If you get your MOT done within 2 weeks of its due date, the new MOT runs from the existing MOT end date, and not the date you get the test done (you used to have to take the old MOT certificate with you for this, but I'm not sure now it's gone computerised). www.ukmot.com/mot%20test/Council%20MOT%20Test%20Centers.asp
I reckon thats a decent repair job, I'll shout you a plane ticket over to Australia and pay you to fix mine, you'd do a better job than most tardesman around here, good job mate.
:))) You weld better upside down than you do right side up..That's an improvement on the welding. ...Well done!!! I know this is an old post, but I have relatives now with the same sort of problems with their van...
It's sad to hear that trolls with no channel content insist on slagging people off. Sure your welding isn't great BUT it's structurally sound which is what counts on the MOT. Fact is I'm a 30+ years mechanic, (as my channel shows), and I think you're slaying it on the repair, you're certainly making more effort than most garage mechanics. With respect to welding, I passed my MIG and it's diabolical lol, I failed my ARC welding and I can ARC weld better than MIG. It just shows that being "qualified" doesn't mean you're good or competent. Welding comes with practice and to be fair I'm far more practiced at ARC then MIG ... But you're still holding the torch too close and you need the tip shroud on so the gas can do its job creating a proper shroud so the weld can run properly. Not dissing you, but hopefully offering a bit of helpful advice.
Don't worry about the the negative commentators, life is full of grouch's, whinging about anything to build themselves up & trying to make themselves feel better. Top marks for having a go.
hey martin im beginning welding myself and i can stick stuff together strongly but it looks about the same as your welds, not the prettiest but if your getting penetration and its stuck together well then it doesnt matter what it looks like you can improve that later!
definitely, in the case of your van it wouldnt pay to have someone do the work, so it wouldnt even get a chance of another mot! but as long as its strong it will be fine, and when all painted and undersealed up itll look better. also can i just say that your first intro you had (at least i think it was the first) was by far the best one lol
what I would say to you if you were to gring or flappy disc your welds back before painting I think that would make a world of differance if your worried about looks but 90% of yhe time its going to be hidden anyways. Just a sudgestion my friend as I said before I have no clue myself! good luck and carry on as you are it cleary makes you happy!
Haha I noticed then I as I continued watching should learn to keep my trap shut, it was only because I had seen someone else do it before and it looked neet, anyway glad it passed mot after all that, you have really inspired me to take on a project of my own and with time I hope to master it, I know my way about a motor but because I own a haynes manual it dont make me a mechanic, My skoda octavia 1.9 tdi had a new clutch, DMF, main oil seal end of crank but I was lucky I did not have to pay labour only for parts, well I say lucky it went in for a new sump but the young kid over tightened the bolts cracking the main plastic seal behind the flywheel, the car drove A1 before hand no clutch judder no slip no nasty noise's nothing, when the box was removed they called me to say my DMF was the worst they had seen and that it had loads of play in it so sudgested a replacement unit. So I gave the go ahead I still have the old clutch out my shed that I still need to take to be inspected by an independant mechanic to tell me if its bad or not. My bill then came to £750 but the timing belt and water pump was done with a service at the same time so I'm still happy as I plan on keeping the car a while as its a good spec motor. Thanks for your vids and for your reply's to my comments, regards, Jason
Now mate i love all your videos i'd rather watch your channel than watch tv. Just a bit of info for you regarding MOT welding work if you are welding a patch into a panel and 3 sides of that patch are to be welded to the existing panel then they have to be seam welded but the 1 side that goes to a place where the original panel was spot welded then you can use plug welds, Like if you buy over sills you would have to fully seam weld along the top of the over sill and where it meets the seam underneath the car it can be plug welded.
Ignore all the trolls bud! I have a transit in a very similar state but I use it like once a month for transporting my bike to race meets and sleeping in it. I was going to just fibreglass it and hide the rust issue but after watching your videos I'm now looking on ebay for a welder instead... if it goes wrong it goes wrong but worth having a go :D
Brilliant video as always, keen watcher, after a bit of advice, I'm Looking to clean up the rust on my MK6 transit what did you use to kill the rust? Or if anyone else can offer some recommendations I'd greatly appreciate it!
a little tip i was given for welding is don't weld down always weld up so your not chasing the run , i'm same as you not a welder but i'd rather do myself than pay to have it done
Simon Goldsborough that's what I done as it felt more natural Simon. I suppose it's common sense really but until you actually do it, it doesn't mean anything. Thanks Martin
6:34 That was MY idea!!! Lol, just kidding, anyways im also gonna buy this. Much cheaper than real welding blanket. But basically same thing.. For welding jobs..
One more thing about arc welders, the steel joint does not have to be squeaky clean, but it does have to be of a reasonable thickness. Chassis fine, panels far too thin. They are cheap and very easy to use.
Hi Martin, don't listen to these pricks your welds look way better than mine I have ago at it from time to time and as I'm sure you have said even is practice makes perfect. These trolls are out to make you look small, I commented on a video the other day and a chap was asking how to work out a percentage so I replied and showed my working out someone else replied and said erm that doesn't make it a percentage I must of done the calculation 3 times thinking what I have done wrong and I think he was just being pedantic, he made me feel small and I just felt like telling him to fuck off lol 😂 you get these people sometimes. Like I have said before your videos are very interesting and inspirational so keep doing what you do because there are people like you and me that turn there hand to anything. All the best, Steve.
My dad was a welder and machinist by trade and at one time back in the late 40's and early 50's he had his own welding business. Thanks for the sub.

Nothing to do with this vid but thanks to you I did some mech work on my Mondeo which I would not of attempted and the job worked keep up the good work you've help another average Joe thanks again
Nice one Roy. Cheers
Martin
Fair play mate, you seem very down to earth. Great job on the transit. Try to push the weld pool rather than pull it.
Cheers
Martin
Watching your videos on the transit has been fantastic thanks for taking the time to share your experience and wisdom 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks 👍
"Gotta go theres going to be war" haha. Ive got to say martin this vid has put a big old smile on my face. You inspire loads of people to give things a go and you have defiantly inspired me to get more involved in gardening ect. Your a true gent and keep up the cracking work.

retrorestore weve definatly had the weather for it the last few days, fingers crossed it stsys like it.
Andy
Hi mate, your video's are absolutely brilliant. Nice to see someone who just takes their time to show the average joe like myself how to go about doing these types of repairs. Please keep up the good work. All the best.
Thanks Allan, Hope you give me a sub lol.
Cheers
Martin
Thanks for watching
Cheers
Martin
Great videos on Transit welding, given me the motivation to do my own welding repairs on my transit. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos.
Nice one Paul. Good luck bud
Cheers
Martin
Forget the idiots that wouldn't know spanner from a screwdriver.its guys like you that spend your time to do these videos to help others to gain the confidence to attempt repairs ourselves . It's a joy to watch the vids.
+Nelly x Batmans Joker x Hey cheers bud. Nice to get some good feedback.
Cheers
Martin
Cheers
Martin
Don't beat yourself up about the haters, your videos are all enjoyable and certainly motivate me......keep it up mate...
Novaturbo2016 Thanks bud, they don't bother me at all as they just get blocked. No negativity here.

Martin
I use Hobbyweld Gas now, google for suppliers around your area.
Love all the videos especially the Mini and RS Turbo restoration videos and I have learnt a lot from them. Thanks.
john Smith cheers bud, we had fun doing them and sharing our experienxes.
Cheers
Martin
I do this work myself as a business and I am a qualified welder to be honest it is not the easiest job to do when you are working with rust and thin metal you keep up the good work you are doing a great job. Gary
Cheers Gary.
Take no notice of the trollers Martin your doing a grand job.Hats off to you mate.
mrnatty122 No I don't lol. zero tolerance for them me thinks.

I've been subscribed to your channel for a while now and what I've seen your welding is faultless keep up the good work buddy 👍
Your doing a great job mate. Bugger the trolls. Lol. Keep em coming . 😜
Scudo Camper I think most of us regular youtubers get them every now and then but ignoring them is the best policy. They are normally saddo's.
Cheers
Martin
Been watching your videos as I'm Gearing up for a big patch up job. Comments like that would kill my confidence and I hold onto stuff like that being the sensitive soul that I am 🙄 glad you have a thicker skin than I have!
Waiting to see the old girl sail through the MOT.....With a big sticker ''I Told You So!''
69Phuket Yes, let's hope so. one in the eye for the trolls.

Martin
You panel skills are excellent. I wish I had the skills to do this... and the space and time and energy... LOL
Thank you very much!
Well done Martin every step is an improvement
stihl334 Yes, getting better with practice.

Regards,
Dave R.
Martin
I'm enjoying your Video's as i have a couple of holes in my Mk7 & i will tackle them myself especially after watching your vid's
i use to watch Ed China fixing cars, but i prefer your video's as you show everyone how it realy is. Keep up the good work...
+Chris Chaffe Nice one Chris, good luck with your project. With my vids, you see the mistakes as well haha.

Martin
Hi Martin, doesn't matter what the welds look like as long as there is good penetration and there strong, practice makes perfect
+TheTopGhia I know what you mean bud. I bet you saved a shed load of money as well instead of taking it to a garage.
Good job bud.
Cheers
Martin
Not only did a save on repair costs i also learnt a lot and i know its all metal in there now.
+jason hobbs Nice one Jason, you'll save money in the long run as I have.
Cheers
Martin
Hi mate, you definitely are coming on well with the welding. Enjoy the videos, I'm currently doing a mk5 smiley face transit, and have just bought a new Oxford welder. to help with all the jobs I've got to do. Keep up the good work mate. Welding gets better and better. I still struggle sometimes, especially upside-down welding.
Thanks bud, I've just uploaded my latest attempt at welding a Ford Capri Scuttle panel. Check it out.
Cheers
Martin
Hi Martin, don't take no notice of anyone else, you do what you've got to do, from where I am sitting it looks good, only one little bit and don't take it the wrong way, I don't know if you know if you weld and grind near glass, the weld and grinding flash will stick to the glass, best cover the glass, not meaning to tell you what to do, but if you get welding splatter on your van wind screen, that will be a MOT failure.
John Courtman Cheers John, Thanks for the tip. Always learning.
Cheers
Martin
You have helped me make my mind up,going to buy a mig welder and start practicing
That's nonsense Martin, your welding is perfectly acceptable, I honestly think you are doing a great job on that van. Jim
lascar48 Cheers Jim, It s actually getting better with practice.
Cheers
Martin
Thank you for making me late! I started off looking at your first video and now im 8 videos in and loving it. Im late for work but hey ho. Keep it going mate.
The welding jobs you are doing on this transit !!!!
Would cost a £1000 +......
A friend of mine has just paid £750.00 to have a very simular job done on his transit !!!!
Fantastic work mate !!!!
getting well better
Cheers bud.
You are doing great Martin and doing a full weld upside down too.
spanermantim I think that's my best bit of welding too Tim. I'm learning all the time.
Cheers
Martin
Hi there love your videos keep up the work I'm trying to do the same job on my 2003 ford transit never done it before but going to give it a go see how I do
Great job Martin "That won't pass an MOT" is a classic line. My car has MOT advisories from rust to bearings come and go over the past 5 years from a couple of garages and all i have ever done is service the engine and underseal the shit out of it. The whole MOT and "Mechanic" system is nothing short of theft from people.
Thanks bud, As you probably know it has passed 2 MOT's since then so that person doesn't know what he was talking about lol.
Cheers
Martin
theses videos are very handly mate you done a good job of the welding work 👍👍
You done a good job on the transit , Martin it’s not a easy job , love the videos,
Thanks Phil I still have it but its off the road at the moment as I want to replace the other sill and paint it.
Cheers
Martin
Glad your ignoring the trolls, experts at sweet FA. I think its great your having a crack at it. I've had welding done by "experts" that looked like they wiped snot on it. Someone always used to say to me when I was doing my apprenticeship, experienced people make no mistakes, yet you only get experienced by learning from mistakes. Keep up the good work. :-)
Terry Unwin Your not wrong ther Tez. Zero tolerance with these keyboard warriors is the order of the day.
Cheers
Martin
Thanks for the tips Phil, learning all the time.
Cheers
Martin
I think you are doing great ! Its really coming together nicely for you !
top bloke,very informative
Cheers
Martin
good - kick him to the Kerb Martin, not needed eh!
hi just to say i am enjoying watching you do the transit i am doing my m8 next week with exacly the same problems and if you think your welding is bad you should see mine lol Keep up the good work and if you enjoy doing what you do carry on and ignore the negtive people thumbs up from me
looks very nice where you are there, hope you enjoyed your meal
As someone said to me ounce it may not look pretty but its strong .
I have been learning to tig weld on my project (wish I had bought a mig) and at first the welds were not pretty but i tried to break them and the metal broke not the weld so all good.
sod the trolls you are doing a nice job keep up the good work.
thailoz944 Cheers bud, I like the mig and am getting the hang of it every time I have a go. Practice I find is the key.
Cheers
Martin
Great job.Practice makes perfect .Great video .
Cheers bud.
Thanks Lawrence.

Good videos man!, I'm enjoying watching I love doing mechanics but i've never welded either. I'd like to learn, keep up the good work brother!

angus Hahaha, I thik they slowed down coz I had the tripod in the road lol.

Martin
Hi there, I've watched all your Transit repair videos, well done! I've just bought a 2004 Transit. It's tidy, but like yours it has rusty areas...especially the inner wings like yours! I haven't got a bloody clue about welding, but after watching your videos it's made me feel easy about stripping my bugger down and having a crack with a welder. (I'll need to bloody buy one first!)
So well done sir. Brilliant videos, and sod the arsehole who slagged you off for the welding. You've done a great job on that van. Looking forward to seeing the van totally finished. Keep up the great work!
Oh, and thanks for taking the time to record and upload your great videos.
Good luck
Martin
retrorestore
HA......I removed the loose plastic guard in the passenger door step.....only to find a bleedin' hole and loads of wet rust......I can't see me doing a lot with this van to be honest, it's just had a 12 month MOT on it......so I'm just gonna run it whilst it's legal and hope it earns its keep in the next 12 months to hopefully enable me to buy a new/tidier/more solid van next year.
maestro66uk
It's amazing what you find once you start digging.
Cheers
Martin
Hi Martin, nice job on the van repairs. You and Sharon crack me up,she's so tolerant lol ,(your ands clean) haha
mattoy123 I still wiped them on her lol. She's a good egg.
Cheers
Martin
If you get your MOT done within 2 weeks of its due date, the new MOT runs from the existing MOT end date, and not the date you get the test done (you used to have to take the old MOT certificate with you for this, but I'm not sure now it's gone computerised).
www.ukmot.com/mot%20test/Council%20MOT%20Test%20Centers.asp
mrman17 Never knew that one. Will be helpful for others reading this comment as well. Thanks for the advice.
Cheers
Martin
I reckon thats a decent repair job, I'll shout you a plane ticket over to Australia and pay you to fix mine, you'd do a better job than most tardesman around here, good job mate.
Haha, nice one Adrian. Cheers bud.
:))) You weld better upside down than you do right side up..That's an improvement on the welding. ...Well done!!! I know this is an old post, but I have relatives now with the same sort of problems with their van...
Haha, better upside down, yes, you might be right lol
Looks good to me Martin ! All we can do is our best and Hope the MOT passes !!
ShawnMrFixit Lee Still plenty to do Shawn but I hope it will be ok.
Cheers
Martin
Doing me a big favour as i am going for a transit and it gives me an idea what to look for ps i am not a great welder but it cleans up well
It's sad to hear that trolls with no channel content insist on slagging people off.
Not dissing you, but hopefully offering a bit of helpful advice.
thanks for the tips bud.
Don't worry about the the negative commentators, life is full of grouch's, whinging about anything to build themselves up & trying to make themselves feel better. Top marks for having a go.
Stoney ascension Thanks bud, No, they don't get to me. This is a positive channel so I just block those people.
Thanks for watching.
Cheers
Martin
hey martin im beginning welding myself and i can stick stuff together strongly but it looks about the same as your welds, not the prettiest but if your getting penetration and its stuck together well then it doesnt matter what it looks like you can improve that later!
FiftyRacer Yes, I feel it's getting better with practice. At least we are having a go and also saving a lot of money.
Cheers
Martin
definitely, in the case of your van it wouldnt pay to have someone do the work, so it wouldnt even get a chance of another mot! but as long as its strong it will be fine, and when all painted and undersealed up itll look better.
also can i just say that your first intro you had (at least i think it was the first) was by far the best one lol
i think it looks really good. Great work
do not ever get a wobbly walk unless your drunk lol however im enjoying your efforts good job
what I would say to you if you were to gring or flappy disc your welds back before painting I think that would make a world of differance if your worried about looks but 90% of yhe time its going to be hidden anyways. Just a sudgestion my friend as I said before I have no clue myself! good luck and carry on as you are it cleary makes you happy!
+jason hobbs Yes, I do that now. This was my first real welding exercise and a learning curve.
Cheers
Martin
If the DMF was really that bad, you would have heard it rattling at tickover.
Good luck bud.
Cheers
Martin
Now mate i love all your videos i'd rather watch your channel than watch tv.
Just a bit of info for you regarding MOT welding work if you are welding a patch into a panel and 3 sides of that patch are to be welded to the existing panel then they have to be seam welded but the 1 side that goes to a place where the original panel was spot welded then you can use plug welds, Like if you buy over sills you would have to fully seam weld along the top of the over sill and where it meets the seam underneath the car it can be plug welded.
Great info Mark, Thanks for that bud.
Cheers
Martin
welds look better ground flat, then when painted look great .
great vids mate don t let them get to you great music five stars mate just like my old man
Ignore all the trolls bud!
Nice one Mike, Good luck bud.
Hi martin your works good for a diy'er kep it up.Whats happening with the old truimph
There is a series of videos in my car project playlist on the Triumph restoration Pete.
Cheers
Martin
i saw upto part 19 Wen the head was being put back on.Seems loads of projects going at once.Keep up the good work m8
Peter Griffiths
Cheers Pete.
Brilliant video as always, keen watcher, after a bit of advice, I'm Looking to clean up the rust on my MK6 transit what did you use to kill the rust? Or if anyone else can offer some recommendations I'd greatly appreciate it!
I use a rust treatment called Vactan Jason. I got it from Ebay.
Cheers
Martin
Hi well take no notice of idiots. your giving it a go like we all do. Keep up the great video's!!!!
a little tip i was given for welding is don't weld down always weld up so your not chasing the run , i'm same as you not a welder but i'd rather do myself than pay to have it done
Simon Goldsborough that's what I done as it felt more natural Simon. I suppose it's common sense really but until you actually do it, it doesn't mean anything. Thanks
Martin
6:34
That was MY idea!!!
Cheers bud, I'll remember that one.
HI I'VE GOT Do A LOT Of WELDING TO My VAN And I Put The WNDOW DOWN WHEN I WORK On CARS OR VANS
hi im david your welding is not too bad nice job
Nice job on the welding martin should fly an mot atb G
goonluv Cheers Gordon, I don't see why it shouldn't go through.
Cheers
Martin
