Hi Jono ... Manfred (63yo german) here ... I just watched this clip and instantly remembered the year 1978 when I got my first synthesizer at the age of 18 (I worked hard for it ;-)) ... it was a Korg MS-20 with patch cables to connect the different modules (OSC/VCF/VCA/LFO and more) and started my journey into "sound-design-land" ... just what you did here with DMD ... incredible and soooo inspiring ... thanks, you put the "spirit" back into modern DAW/Music design 👍🏼 ... I can't wait to your new series (especially regarding DMD in context of synths ... 🤓
Thanks so much, Manfred. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and, absolutely, plenty more to come along these lines! Do you still have your MS20? Beast of a synth!! Happy New Year.
@jonobuchananmusic Happy New Year to you and to all 🤩 ... Thanks for your answer and I am looking forward to "more of that" clips ... and "Yes", the MS20 is still around and working ... 🤓
I love your approach of exploring Logic as if it were a giant modular synth. I think you're doing a great job of inspiring your viewers to move away from the tried and tested, and further into the world of the unknown and uncontrolled.. Thanks Jono.
Really interesting. I need to think more about how I’d apply this. There is a fine art to getting something musical out of randomness. It’s really amazing to think that pattern sequencer can do much more than I realized. Merry Christmas and thanks for everything over 2024.
Simply stunning. I love using the randomisations from the functions menu, so many possibilities. The overall randomisation levels can be dragged up or down via the directional arrows and then fine tuning from there (I don't want to teach your grandma to suck eggs)
Thank you, marry Xmas! Do you have a trick to get a signature wonky shuffle with the pattern (my Korg emx had a mysterious groooooove, and is impossible for me to replicate at the moment...)
Thanks for your question. My best two guesses would be to experiment with the Quantize Swing amount for the Pattern overall. And then using the Offset drop-down menu to shift individual notes/hits early or late. Theoretically, one or both of those techniques should allow for any wonky Groove to be created or emulated.
This is definitely an added benefit of having Logic. You really broke down not just how but also what is capable beyond what you demonstrated. Sparking the imagination. Speaking of the application to synths and referencing modular equivalents, we know you can create generative sounds and patterns within modular gear. In the Bitwig DAW, you go into the modular synth area and connect various aspects that cause it to generate sounds & their variations which is a step beyond randomization. I'm still new in the field of randomization which is great for creating ambient or drone style tracks. Can Logic generate as well so we can hit play and hear it not only become random, but also hear it morph sounds as it generates while remaining non-linear? I hope I'm explaining it correctly. I got so excited watching your clearly explained video that I had to respond right away! You are definitely a true teacher. There are great artists and creators out there but the ability to convey it with passion, excitement and in bites that anyone can follow...THAT is a gift. You do it well, sir. I will locate the Biwig video to share as a reference. Of course it's based on if you have time to review amongst your already busy schedule! Thank you in advance! So cool!
Thanks so much for your kind message. Absolutely, this video is the tip of the iceberg - I’m really looking forward to getting deeper into the Modular-like capabilities of Pattern Sequencing of both notes and control events. Best wishes to you!
Hi Martin. Ah, probably just an oversight on my part! Hopefully the earlier parts of the video will show you how to Randomize the Delay Time lane if you'd like to try something similar.

*Very* clever 👍
Thanks Peter. I hope you’ve had a great Christmas and New Year.

Many thanks - and you're most welcome!

Merry Christmas and thanks for everything over 2024.
Many thanks Andrew. Merry Christmas to you too.
Can't wait to see more of this!
Thanks - plenty more to come!
Fantastic and looking forward to the others in this series as I use it for my Modular gear and its super creative -thank you
You're very welcome.

Looking forward to a follow up on this, agreed, like a modular synth staring you right in the face!
Absolutely - lots more to explore! Thanks.
And another great video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Many thanks.
Great stuff as always. Happy Xmas, Jono :)
You too, David. Many thanks!

I would have hit the RandomIze Selected Row/All Rows key command instead of randomizing each row manually
Yes, absolutely, that works too.

The delay time isn’t randomized in the video, it’s back and forth. Is that on purpose?

Oh yeah, I’m gonna try this. Love the random movement it brings and the happy incidents that go with it. Thanks!

This is what I was referencing, sir!
Great, very much looking forward to having a look at this.
What Monitors are you using????
Adam A77x. At the other end of the room, I use Event Opals.
@jonobuchananmusic I thought they were Adams. But that's sent to sure. Thank you
this was a real treat Jono. I had a blast. keep up the fantastic work! 🤍🤍🤍
Thanks so much!
