I love this! A few years ago a local dealership had 2x pristine Solstice GXP's in the showroom, Red and Yellow. Fell in love with that platform ever since.
This was my first dream car back when I was still small enough to fit in one. It's crazy how all these years later, it's still such a great looking car.
Theres quite a few Solstice GXPs for cheap, its the factory hard top ones that are insanely expensive. Think they only ended up making like 1,000 of em, and they're super clean.
User to be someone in Europe who drifted a 2JZ Opel GT and it always looks scary as f*** but that looks so much fun. I'm sure a lot of work went into developing how the power is delivered and put down, great job zzp!
I have videos of this car from a few years ago at IDLS Winterfest in FL. The 2 step on this car is INSANELY loud! Every time the car would pop you could feel it in your chest. It’s an amazing machine for sure.
That’s a true thing abt Saturn owners. My sis had a first get SL2 and got into a wreck next thing she bought was a second gen SL2. She still wishes she could have her second gen to this day even tho she’s in a Lexus es now
GM chassis built to compete with a Miata paired with a Toyota engine, a Tremec manual gearbox, and a Ford rear end. A true match made in hell. And not in a nightmarish way for us human beings. More in a Doomslayer type of "made in hell" type of manner.
This is absolutely beautiful. I feel like the time was spent well to research and really mate all the things together. Love the body work and the small details added around the car. This is a LOOKER for sure.
My problem with the sky and solstice was the foot well. The pedal box is hella SMALL. I had trouble pulling one into the shop with boots on. Had to jam my foot sideways to fit in there 😂 clutching was a chore lol
You know I’ve always liked the Solstice and Sky. Sure they weren’t hypercars or HP monsters but they were sporty and unique. I always enjoy seeing one still driving around out in the wild
I felt like breaking on that new intro. Dude. Cool. This car is sick. I always wondered why these cars didn't develop in the tuner community. And it's twin the solstice. Nice. ❤❤😮💪👌😎
I drove a saturn sky once as a valet. This was a tiny car designed for shorter people. I'm 6'3 and I could barely fit in the car. The 30 second drive was painful and I struggled to even enter or exit the vehicle.
I was always in love with the Saturn Sky Red Line when they came out. I ended up with a G35 instead, which I loved for 10 years. So I never got a Saturn Sky, but i still love the look, and I always thought it looked like a baby corvette. This thing is amazing.
This is such a cool car! I had a Saturn Aura with the 3.6 V6 and it aged so well… it’s crazy that in like 10 years you’ll probably be covering battery swaps instead of engine swaps 😳
First off I think Paul did an excellent build. Love the video. I’ve always liked the sky/solstice. I also really dig how it’s a gm car, with a Toyota engine, ford rear end and the tremec. It seems like it shouldn’t mesh but it totally does
This is the absolute best-looking car I've seen from this platform. It's a shame that it would be so hard, and expensive, to replicate. Those body mods make the car.
Pontiac originally designed these cars that's be powered by a V8. Chevy put a stop to that. I will assume that Chevrolet did not want Pontiac having something that might save them. Chevrolet has been trying to shut Pontiac down for years doing the same trick..
After Chevrolet told them no, Pontiac scheduled TV show called "setup", where they gave groups of contestants Pontiac Solstices that they had to engine swap with a V8 and make it race ready.
Awesome car built by an awesome dude! Paul really went through the paces with this thing! I remember when he bought the car. It has come so far! Great presentation. The car and Paul deserve the notice. Good job sir!
I bought my sky redline back in 2006 and took delivery in April of that year. It was actually the first in the blue stone color, it wasn't originally available but they put a note on the order that should it come available to paint it that color. I still remember getting the phone call from the Delaware factory saying, "Hey, we decided to do that Blue Stone color, do you still want it? It will actually be the first." Fast forward 190k miles and 12 years and I decided to LS swap it. Built a supercharged LS3 motor and swapped to a TR6060 trans, which turned this thing into a beast ... but I can't drive it on the street right now because I got scammed by Norm's Fiberglass. That hardtop you have on the vehicle was made by Norm, who I paid in full back in 2018 for the full body kit. He never delivered, so my sky has been sitting without a trunk and roof since then. :(
Just a tidbit of info, GM actually put a LS in a solstice just to see if they could. I remember reading the article in car and driver when magazines were still a thing.
We didnt get these in australia we got the astra turbo. Owned one myself for s few years and loved it. Was quick for a 2.0 turbo. This car seems mental and yes the tremec gewrbox and resr end 3rd gear is so so long.
My first car was an ‘08 Saturn Astra XE with the 4 speed auto. Very slow but so much fun to chuck into corners. Definitely not this car but I really liked it.
I’ll never forget tweaking over this car the first time I saw it on the road. I was like “THATS THE 2J SKY NO FREAKING WAY” I was sending my GF pictures at the time like “do you even know the significance of what I just saw” 😂😂
Wish I never sold my solstice GXP. Got it out of copart in 2019 with 62k miles for 1500$ and that’s after taxes. Car ended up needing a new hood and bumper and one headlight, and the intercooler pipes were crushed. Put about 1500$ into it and had an amazing beautiful clean solstice Gxp for 3k. Grant it was a reconstructed title now but was such a steal. Sold 1 year later for 5500$ with 67k miles. Oh and it was a manual Gxp aswell.
The way the hardtop molds/blends into the spoiler looks really sick
Meant to be
I concur.
yeah im blown away by how cool this car is.
Yeah, it's almost like the Z top hard top for 986 Porsche boxters
Well the top was such a pain to put down originally, I suppose this solves that.
Yess!!! Such a cool car for its time. Doesn’t get the credit it deserves for Saturn to give it a go
"How's come the first time I drive a car, it's never stock." You've done this to yourself good sir! 😂
Honestly can’t believe how well this thing drove. Thoughts?
I have a Solstice GXP I’m motor swapping. With a little work they are a blast
They're supposed to be a blast to drive! My aunt had one. Sky redline. I never drove it but my cousin said it was a a lot of fun!!

Yep saw it at Atlanta drift
I seen this car in Florida a few years ago at the Bradenton Drag Strip!!!! This specific car started my love for the SKY!!!

I love these cars. I want to ls7 swap one like Hot Rodder magazine did. It's so cool gm designed it specifically for an ls swap!
My mom had a manual sky and even stock it got tons of head turns.
I've been wanting to do this for years! I'm so happy someone else proved it's possible! She's a beautiful beast and Paul is a legend

That’s freaking clean. From the aesthetics of the looks and sounds, to the engine and transmission. Good stuff 🤙🏻
Nice video altough i was waiting for David to rip it like the old mk4 supra videos from texas where he was giving them the beans.
I was 100% throttle. The car is just that well setup, and the gearing is long enough to send you into space.

Best Saturn Sky I’ve ever seen. From a Miata guy, one of the few cars I would love to see LS Swapped instead of a Miata, and got 2JZ swapped 🤣
