Congratulations on finding the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their five years of existence as a band, they set a standard that easily puts them on a par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Their founder and bassist announced her departure on Aug 17, 2021, so we can only hope they find a way forward. Meanwhile, we console ourselves with their astonishing catalogue of work. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels sent to save us, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. Whatever the description, I think one can say they have given metal a badly needed makeover and maybe a new lease on life. They have themselves said that part of their mission is to save heavy metal from darkness and obscurity. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and soul of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the greatest European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands. The whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she also trained in ballet). Miho and Miyako have composed most of their music, in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer, but Midori has also been getting into the act. Asami writes a lot of the lyrics. They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. and aced it all. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and at this point they’ve taken it to another level. This is one of their usual first songs for reactors, and rightly so--you get a good sense of the band. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash, and almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel. Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." Either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. Miyako is also a professional-level classical concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. If you like thrash metal I recommend "set the world on fire" the last video on the official Lovebites page, and also "break the wall", "thunder vengeance" "winds of transylvania". If you like power metal i recommend "shadowmaker" "rising" "when destinies align". Lovebites has about 50 tracks, I gave you some of them, the others are all as good.

The Dual Guitar Bass tapping or the Holy Tapping Trifecta, all in sync and both guitarist actually put the pick in their mouth, you can see that if watching carefully in between transitions. Wolfpack is the fan following of the Queens of Metal :) Best two dual guitarist I've heard in over 30-40 years. You will see if you emerge into the Lovebites Universe as they are on another plane of existence compared to ... well any other band. There are few of Japanese all female bands that are also above the norm like Band-Maid, Nemophila and Scandal. If you're interested in broadening your musical horizon with some symphonic metal, I might have an interesting recommendation for you. Try listening to Nightwish. They are a band from Finland and they are top notch in this genre. Their singer is the Dutch Floor Jansen. She has one of the best female voices in metal today. Nightwish songs have a huge variety. There are epic and melodic songs, but they can also go really heavy on you, like in the one you I’m recommending now and the next song could be very celtic sounding or even jazzy… Their music is exceptionally well composed and the lyrics are very powerful and poetic, Nightwish is best appreciated LIVE. Give the song Romanticide a try. It was recorded at Wacken 2013, in front of 82 000 people. If you like thrash metal I recommend "set the world on fire" the last video on the official Lovebites page, and also "break the wall", "thunder vengeance" "winds of transylvania". If you like power metal i recommend "shadowmaker" "rising" "when destinies align". Lovebites has about 50 tracks, I gave you some of them, the others are all as good.

The Dual Guitar Bass tapping or the Holy Tapping Trifecta, all in sync and both guitarist actually put the pick in their mouth, you can see that if watching carefully in between transitions.
Wolfpack is the fan following of the Queens of Metal :) Best two dual guitarist I've heard in over 30-40 years. You will see if you emerge into the Lovebites Universe as they are on another plane of existence compared to ... well any other band. There are few of Japanese all female bands that are also above the norm like Band-Maid, Nemophila and Scandal. Of course Japan has about a 100 or so all female active bands, and there are at least two dozen of highly recommended bands.

If you're interested in broadening your musical horizon with some symphonic metal, I might have an interesting recommendation for you. Try listening to Nightwish. They are a band from Finland and they are top notch in this genre. Their singer is the Dutch Floor Jansen. She has one of the best female voices in metal today. Nightwish songs have a huge variety. There are epic and melodic songs, but they can also go really heavy on you, like in the one you I’m recommending now and the next song could be very celtic sounding or even jazzy… Their music is exceptionally well composed and the lyrics are very powerful and poetic, Nightwish is best appreciated LIVE.
