Rob’s enthusiasm is a real tonic. He seems to talk personally to the viewer. Love it when he is so surprised as a little boy. Keep young Rob. Hi
Escort mk5 RS 2000 launched Nov 1991 - With this one with build date of 29.11.1991. It would've been one of the very 1st RS 2000 built. And most likely sitting in a dealership showroom. Before finally being sold & registered on 01.02.1993.
Bearing in mind Escort mk5a (facelift) RS 2000 had already been launched a few months earlier in later 1992 !
100% an RS2000 mate, had one exactly the same with log book showing Ford Escort. DVLA changed it for me after a few phone calls. I would tidy it up, get it running and driving and sell it on. Getting quite sought after now with it not being abused and poorly modded. Good buy. Great video keep it up.
OMG!!!, its 1992 again, I'm 19 & running around in my Mk3 Fezza, I remember seeing these & wished I could drive manual! Stunning car & very underrated - Cannot remember the last time I saw one!! Can't wait to see what you do with it
I love these barn finds. Just when you think the last remaining of a particular car has been scrapped, one more example suddenly pops up and there is one to love and cherish after all.
My Dad bought a car from Dees of Croydon ( before you were born) lol - that was when airplanes landed at the airport! Brilliant, brilliant video Rob - they just get better. I reckon thats worth doing up proper spec - they are so desirable as future classics.
It’s already a classic.
Whoever buys this will want to put their own stamp on it, so just clean it, paint what needs painting, sort out the drivers seat and fix the headliner. Give it a service and MOT, take the profit and move on to the next one. Hope Chris brings you some proper Cornish pasties back.
I love it when you lads save a forgotten icon - you might not do the resto but you are going to put the car in a position for somebody else to do it ! Great video ! I recall helping lads get out of one after they rolled it outside Castlederg many moons ago !! The car was trashed - you could have walked round that car 100 times I wouldn't have noticed or cared !! Great find !!
Looks in really good condition and that’s brilliant that you have been able to buy it and looking forward to see what you both do with it
Yesterday I took my 17 year old daughter with me to collect the sierra
Its 1986 and I had one big smile on my face the whole way home
This will be your next video to hit the big 1 million views!
Definitely!.
As part of my hobby I have re-registered a few vintage tractors. My club has records of the serial (chassis) numbers and they can tell what part of the day and date the tractor was made (day or night shift). The interesting bit comes if the tractor still has it`s registration number and the Local Authority still has the registration details so not only can you keep the original registration number but also research the supplying dealer and first owner! My first tractor has been back to it`s first home for a photo shoot and I have met the first owner`s daughter. My club`s part in the registration process is to verify the tractor is exactly what you are claiming it to be so DVLA can register it, similar to what Ford are doing for you!
Back in 92 I was 19 stationed in Germany in the army. My late father took me to collect a brand new 1.4 LX Polaris grey Escort when I was on leave. There was an RS2000 there and I remember drooling over it. Brought back great memories, thank you.
The best channel just keeps getting better! It's 30 years old in a few weeks, very rare and forgotten hot hatch, even when new they were rare. Even though they are 15" those alloys look great. It's going to be really interesting following the progress on this one!
Woah yes!!!! Keep these good old Fords coming lads, I'm off to get a coffee to watch with 😁☕
The excitement in your voice say's it all Rob , what a cracking find , 1 owner is rare and you easily sorted out the vin mix-up.
I hope Chris is as excited as you.
Rob, we had a similar issue with a C1 VTR that was listed as a VTR+ on the V5. Took a while but the DVLA did change the log book for me. Love these old Fords, rarer than hen's teeth now.
I have one, had it 22 years. Great car.
Was never a fan of the later “so called” RS2000’s. I know people love them and that’s why it’s good we’re all different. In my opinion the Mk1 & Mk2 are the only REAL RS 2000’s. I think that ford only marketed the MK5 etc to shift excess body shells. More great content though 👍
Gwyndaf Evans would disagree.
Mk1 and mk2s were probably your era, I remember racing the mk5s in my clio Williams back in the day
Totally agree. Only the Cossie Escort is worth a mention with those. Although this particular car is a good buy for the guys as a 1 owner car it will be valuable to those who do like this type of thing. I have to say the Recaros are pretty cool, but that's it.
Totally agree
Mk3 weren't too shabby neither, theyre fetching good money now! Wish I still had my 1600 ghia.....good looking car
i have a 1.6 ghia mk5 escort found in a barn a few years ago got it fully restored one owner from new never been welded 40000 miles on it with moon dust silver paint never selling it only 40 left in the uk love it
These were never that common even back in the day. Brilliant find and a one owner car as well. Can't wait to see this one progress.
It's a classic it deserves a full refurb. You gotta do it it's criminal not too 😂 love the vids guys especially the fords. Can't wait to see you get started on it. 👍
Rare car that Rob, I can’t recall seeing many back in 1993. It was a bit of Ford trying to re-create the magic of the Mk1 and Mk2 RS2000 and not quite hitting the sweet sport. Nice to see it survive though.
C tu
It was just a newer version of the rs turbo upper tier to the xr3i
My dad had a J plate one 1992
A boyhood dream, I grew up with these cars and thank goodness you’re out there saving them. Hope you do a full restoration on it! I’m looking forward to seeing future videos and how your progress with it. As always, great content and keep up the great work guys.
Interior fabric - panache "pan-ash"
I fondly remember my brother's one in the late 90's-early 2000's. Great fun even for the passengers!
I have a J plate one, and give it a full bare metal resto around 15 years ago, once we dug into it there was very little that wasn't rotten, we put a floor in, chassis legs both rear quarters ( aswell as rebuilding most of the inner ) a pair of front wings, A pillars and the list goes on.... I still have the car and love it, even though I rarely use it lol.
Good luck guys.
Just been cross-referencing on Ford Etis and yours was built in a block of RS2000’s at the end of November\start of December 1991. There were also a couple of them that were registered in 1993 too so they must have been sat at Ford’s compound for over a year.
mate i worked for them lol and we kept our cars in sheppy and i kid you now theres a mark 1 fiesta there with a tree grown through it that was in 2003
Hi Rob, I'm a 30+ year ford service manager. Use ford etis to check vin or reg numbers that chassis number checks out as a 150bhp 2000 dohc.
Ford didn't always assign RS on the build sheet in the early days.
But you've got a genuine one there.
That brings back some memories, would be nice to see it cleaned up and resold.
Ford owners club are going to be all over this I can imagine, they were rare back in the 90s…… what a beauty! You lucky boy!
You’ve got to save stuff when you can & for thar reason I’ve just spent today digging out a 39 year old e21 for a family as I can mind of it gleaming in the mid 80s & couldn’t watch it get any worse. Tonight for first time in 20 years it’s under a car port. 👍
Oh yes that is a official rs2000 everything is in the right place. Get it restored lads fair play for finding and cleaning these old fords up
I would just like to point out that I passed my driving test first time 😁 in a green Escort Mark 1 in May 1973. The fact that the examiner's son was in the same class as me at school had nothing to do with it.
I passed my test first time in a Ford Escort Mk 2 in 1981.
We have two in family MK5 RS2000 MY91& 92 , it is my second one and I really like the early shape with 'power bulge' the rear arches and front window sill rot, as does the battery bay. They drive well and look the business. Look forward to seeing what you decide to do with it, any help I will post. Thanks for sharing
If you check the dates on the tyres it might give you a rough idear of when it was parked
Wow, blast from the past, my neighbour bought one brand new when i was 16, so jealous of it ever sunday when he cleaned it whilst i was cleaning my orion 1.6 😂 he sold it 2 yrs later and bought a Suzuki vitara which was popular at the time, what a mug, i was gutted hoping he would hold on to it long enough for me to get 1st refusal 😭 great memories 👌🏼
More drama than East Enders! Really interesting you are so made up, can’t wait to hear what Chris says!
Just lovely! had a K plate, gun metal grey, in 2002, sold it for £800, regretted it ever since. good luck boys.
So there’s a Sierra Cosworth, an RS turbo, an Rs2000 and an ST Fiesta. I’m noticing a very lovely pattern emerging 😂😂. Can’t wait to hear that Escort running. Great buy lads. Well done once again. 👍👍
im 52 and seeing that car takes me back to my mid 20s and all the amazing cars that were about then ,like the lotus carlton ,the fiesta rs turbo ,the renault 5 turbo oh my god that brings back memories .
Interesting fact time: This isn’t the first time Ford has done something like this! On the Ford Focus MK1 ST170 Estate series, Ford made a MASSIVE mistake on all ST170 UK Registered Estates produced, they registered them ALL as hatch backs, so as a result of this, nobody in the world knows the correct production number of Ford Focus MK1 ST170 Estates.
Admin in main dealer HQ can be pretty abysmal.
Mines registered as an st170 estate
Best UK car channel in the UK by far.
For some reason i have this image of Chris sitting on the beach with his jeans and steel toe cap boots on, wishing his holiday was over and he could get back to his workshop.
Lol absolutely not he didn’t want to come home 👍
Cornwall is so beautiful it's the english Riviera.
@@tutsywutsy I think that’s Torquay/Torbay, but Cornwall is very special!
@@tutsywutsy That's Devon. Torquay area bud.
Your enthusiasm Rob brightens up the dullest of days. A big thank you for sharing this rare car.
Hi Rob and Chris, what a find, would be interesting to know how long it's been sitting. There just cannot be many or if any left sitting now surely. Enjoyed the video.. interesting.! Alex.
I know you said not to get too excited, but a 90's RS2000, Barn Find with a World of Potential. How can we not get excited and want to see more cracking content. 👌
Next week the channel gets renamed to "Max Power" Rebuilds. Quite the collection of hot hatches you're building up Rob. I'm not sure about the later RS models. It seemed they were more of a trim level than a real sports version. It'll be interesting to see this all cleaned up and running though.
Yep drove one in the 90's. Agree RS in name only. Still a nice find.
Hi Rob, when they first came out a mate of mines father in law was a boss at Ford and he used to get a new company car every 6 months . My mate said he fancied one so the father in law sorted it as a company car but he wanted it in the dark blue colour. They came back and said that it would be a 3 month wait for one that colour. They had one that colour but it wasnt "new" as it had done about 50 miles but he could get that one straight away. It all sounded really odd but he got it then, a few weeks later the full story came out. The car he got was the one they used on the posters. "That looks like my car....that is my car " . He only had it 6 months (ford company car scheme) but loved it more .......than his Ex wife ! I thought that might be why yours had a V5 issue. It might have been a very early car used at Ford HQ hence the early date. Check the date they first hit the market or that particular colour as it could be even more special. All the best with it !
Of course it's interesting Rob, you don't really think we'd skip the last couple of minutes do you?
There are not too many of those left, knowing your preferences, I can see why you are so pleased with the purchase. You have had some good luck sorting out the registration details. I renewed my driving licence a week or two back, I did it on Thursday, the new licence was in my hand Monday, but if it needs genuine 'tree based paperwork' it is taking 'longer - - -'. It looks as though you had some good luck sorting out the process for the registration anomaly. You started the 'paperchase' as soon as you could, probably a very wise move.
Not my fav of the fords but decent buy, don't see many of them about :). I'm sure this will make a collector very happy. I'd just wash it and sell it on chances are the new owner will want to restore it anyways to own standard. :)
Have to agree I think the mk5 escort is my least favourite. Well actually 3rd least favourite with the Orion at number one and mk6 escort at number 2 😆
Another interesting piece, Rob. I'd suggest clean it up, get a battery and check the car over, give it a service and get it running and then MOT. When you have got there you'll know a lot more and can make an informed decision on your next step. Glad Chris has had a break.
That’s been input into DVLA incorrectly by DVLA or the dealer
That dash is just incredible
Thanks again Rob
Let's go Brandon
Recon you'd make a grand giving it a good wash Rob. Great find can't wait for the numbers. Can't wait to see Chris s reaction.
Fantastic buy there Rob, the last time I saw one of these was in my mechanic workshop at college over 10 years ago. Was an absolute shame this was the life it was subjected to, taken to bits by novice mechanics never to see the light of day or the road again. But this one, this one's got potential, can't wait to see more on this one.
Honestly think you and Chris should restore this you just don’t see these around, what a find mate 👍
Like every other comment Rob, I can't wait to see the outcome of the Escort, I'm even excited to just see it washed. These cars remind me of the good times I had in my early to mid 20s. My male friends and some of us girls were absolute petrol heads. Cars, motorbikes....as long as they drove fast and had a roar, we were smitten.
Chris reminds me in a way of my partner, amazing work ethic and mechanically he's a genius....hope you had a lovely break.
Have a great week guys and cheers for another great video
Just goes to show that those rare cars are still out there but you hit the jackpot with this one Rob. One owner - unbelievable! It’ll be interesting to see where this one goes. Great vid as usual. Really look forward to your vids coming out through the week.
Looks pretty good, they were not around that much to my memory, I had a experimental version of that mk but it was a tdx intercooler I think it had turbo as well, but hey it was diesel, it was so quick, just kept going, my business partner at the time got a escort cosworth as part of the same deal, the diesel would hang back in gears one and two but level off until four and got beat as I changed to five, Ford spent huge money on development of that mk in all fuels and types, great memories, good luck guys
Rob I sold new Ford cars in the 90’s. Cars were first registered at regional DVLA offices everything was done manually and normally in hand written format. We had lots of cars that were not registered properly. Very often customers would come back screaming after they received their new logbook with the wrong model or spec 😀😀
I had one of these back in the day in my early twenties. had to sell it after a couple of years because insurance premiums went beyond ridiculous. some good memories though, great find rob
I've driven one of these about 15 years ago but a lovely car and it was quick no question keep up with the good work guys
Never ceases to amaze me what is tucked away in people's barns and garages for years.
I love this car, reminds me of my K reg XR3i in Polaris grey with them original small rear lights & the horizontal front grille. Much better than the later ones. You gotta restore this one please 🙏🏻
Love the RS Escort , takes me back a few years .
Nice you've sorted it. Quite often you need to do engine number chassis number .vin tag photos from all sides to prove the year model etc on motorbikes .Looks like it's a bit easier for the car 👍
Very informative Rob & great video content as usual. Can’t wait until it all comes together as usual. Take care 👍👍
Can’t believe your considering not completely restoring both this & the RS Turbo. It seems to be a no brainer that both of them would give you a fantastic return cash wise & some great content, especially the RS 2000 being what looks like a standard unmolested one owner car. Have a good long hard think about your next moves please🙏🏻
Enjoy the videos, keep up the good work guys 👏🏻
Oooohhh, a sister car for the white RS Turbo! Can't wait to see this one fully restored, I remember these from years back and you are right Rob - just don't see them on the road nowadays at all. Definitely worth saving - good find!
Just when you think it can't get any better, you guys go one better! Completely fascinating!
I think clean it up, get the paint span up, get that paintwork done, refurb the wheels, sort the seat, give it a full service get full MOT on it and send it on its way as a nice original example!
That's a proper blast from the past. I love it. All the best with what you do with it, but it deserves to be back on the road.
Hard to get an rs2000 now especially an early one like that. No matter what happens it will be a nice car to save and fix up. Good find Rob. Hope Chris likes it too.
Rob Wel done you were very thorough in checking that this car is actually is what it says it is. Good lesson at least 3 sources of independent information were sought out to verify the car as well as the super info Car vertical report. I once was an investigator of finance/ activity fraud am sure all the subscribers know anything looks too good to be true it usually is.
Delighted ta see an old ford. Enjoy the videos Rob. Looking 4ward ta seeing how she comes out.
Nice one Rob, your enthusiasm is infectious and makes for good viewing, it shows you have a passion for what you do! Keep up the good work and thanks for the inspirational entertainment! 👍
Loving another fast Ford series, cant wait to hear Chris and his reaction to it.
A very appealing car like you say not many RS2000 about with 1 owner from new
Glad Chris is in gods country. Go on do the car up.
I worked for FORD when these later RS's came out, I drove front wheel drive and four wheel drive versions, and they were (at the time, early 90's) a quick, different and interesting mark five/six.Rare as 'common sence' these days, and I'm not really a later RS fan, but, they do deserve saving now. The TV add for the new RS2000 featured a mark 2 RS2000,and they said "you will ge great again" . . , Mark 2's never stopped being great . , , cracked me up 😆😆😆😆😆 good luck with it. 👍👍👍
Love Robs enthusiasm for the car. It doesn't have to be an expensive car. It's all about how it makes you feel and watching Rob get excited about it is a pleasure 👍
These have been going for fairly big money for a few years now.
@@philtowle4683 Ah, ok, just assumed it wouldn't be worth much. Fair enough. Nice car I remember the advert for RS2000. Always wanted an RS Turbo Fiesta. Thought they were expensive 20 years ago.
@@davidhumpherson4904 I learnt to drive in a mk3 XR2i and my mates dad had a fiesta RS1800 that was really nice.
Great stuff Rob. Makes you wonder if this went on the production line as a car that never came out and was then finished as what it is now, but noone bothered about the written detail. Chris will love it!!
Cheers, Bob
Int resting
I own a 1998 BMW 316i 1.6 and would love to see you doing one up.
Don't think you hear it enough but we really do appreciate the effort you put into these videos. Thank you.
Thank you mate really appreciate the appreciation 👍
I've probably seen more Cossies than RS2000s. A very rare classic and a lot easier to insure back in the day. :) Matches the mk4 turbo in performance too. I'd love to see you do the works on this fast Ford but fully appreciate the work load you guys already have. :)
Mk5 Escort was my first company car. I loved that motor. It looks dated now but back in 1991 they looked pretty good. Love the velor seats.
I can’t even find a everyday car and you boys find these gems 👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Good to see a MK5 RS2000 on the channel, their wasn't a lot MK5 RS2000's around where I live but Greater Manchester Police had a few unmarked ones, it would make a perfect restoration project being only a 1 owner car.
Looking forward to seeing this when finished and of course the journey to get there, what a cracking car. Thanks Rob, hope Chris enjoyed his holiday 👍
I don't know if Chris is back from his holiday but if not i think you should have this all cleaned up and what ever else is needed as a surprise for him just to show how much you appreciate every thing he's done would be good
Love the old RS ford's.
When I was at college they had an RS2000 in white had some other cool classics too. Can't wait to see the outcome of it 🙌
Really enjoyed this one. Looking forward to seeing what you decide to do with it. Also enjoy you explaining the back stories on the cars you fix up. Keep up the good work and appreciate the time and effort it takes to pump these videos out so we can enjoy them.
Behing a classic Ford and a rare one like that with 1 owner deserves the love and care hope you lads sort it can’t wait to see it finished ✌️
Said before said again. Old fords will sky rocket the views. We all bloody love em! Haha great as always
Thanks for sharing your Ford Escort RS2000 dealings with Head Office, look forward to where it all goes from now .
Keep us posted.
😎👍
Cor blimey Rob ...you do love to waffle !!! You can tell by your voice that you are like a big kid at Christmas!! Looking forward to seeing you get that car washed and running like a dream.
Well I’m now doing the back catalogue so you are definitely doing something right cheers!
Nice to see one of these survive 👍
Hope Chris had a good time and is fully recharged.
Rob, that’s a fabulous car for any Ford enthusiast to own. I really don’t think it’s possible to put a value to it right now and if you can get it running and MOT’d I think the sky’s the limit on this one. Please consider just getting a basic paint job on the rear quarter, even if it’s just to make it look decent 😊👍🙏
