In this video I take a huge gamble and purchase an abandoned Land Rover Defender 130 SV special vehicle project that I have not seen and have not mentioned to Chris. This could be a big mistake. As he has owned several 90 and 110 models, I really hope he wants to own a 130 !

I think you may under estimate the strength of your friendship/partnership, but it made for a more entertaining video. The rapport and respect between you are a couple of the aspects which makes the channel so enjoyable. Chris'' respect for Rob was very clear when the Lamborghini was purchased and Rob is always complimentary of Chris.

You can pick up 130 ex utility Quadtech 4 bodies fairly cheaply (between £500 - £1200) that will go straight on to that lovely galvanised chassis for a basic camper project. With the spec of the chassis, engine and other rebuilt items, even a basic camper project that needs fitting out could fetch £10k plus.
Fitting a quadtech body would be less time consuming than building up the rear body. It'll drop straight on. No need to paint it - the new owner will have a blank canvas to paint it any colour they desire and fit it out to their individual needs.

Rob, you did a blinder of a deal, even though some of it wasn't as nice as you wanted. I wouldn't sell at cost. You've done all your research and checked it out, made a valuable video for the next guy. If you do sell for what it owes you, I hope your buyer gives you and Chris a really good drink for your effort.

The Land Rover Series II / IIA / III were the original "Bitsa's" and the Defender continues that fine tradition.
There is so much interchangeability its brilliant.
When looking for a Defender the top priority is the chassis obviously as its what everything is bolted to. The next most important consideration is the front engine bulkhead as this is what all the bodywork is lined up from and the next consideration is the engine / transmission / suspension.
So this one has a galvanised chassis which is a massive positive, the bulkhead looks to be in pretty good shape and the engine and gearbox has been rebuilt which is another huge positive. By the way, as long as the timing belt is done regularly, the 200TDI & 300TDI are about as bombproof as any engine out there, they are a phenomenal piece of kit and require no ECU. Also the suspension looks like new and the wheels are standard on some Defenders.
With the market for Defenders being what it is for the last few years I'd say you're sitting on a £10k car, right now, as it is.
Good luck with it as whoever ends up with it will be getting a hell of an incredible machine.

That's a perfect base for an expedition camper, but I do have to agree with Chris - you do need to get some of the other projects out of the door first.
You would certainly live up to your name if you repair that jigsaw. A real salvage and a massive rebuild. I think if the yard was empty and the Range Rover done Chris would of been a like a kid in a sweet shop. As it is ,it may be down to Rob the salesman / parts wizard to dispose of the project. Your antics worrying about Chris,s reactions were quite hilarious 😆.

It’s the sort of purchase you make on eBay when you’ve had a few beers. It reminds me of my wife, I’d had 28 blissful years of happiness until I met her on Tinder and we got married.

I've been there myself as a hobbyist with Land Rovers and totally understand Chris' reluctance as they are a bit of a labour of love. Having said that, 130s are not very common and popular for a variety of special projects and you could almost certainly turn a profit selling as is if you wanted to (realise you said you won't do that). Probably a lot harder to make a decent profit restoring it due to the sheer time involved.

I was concerned to start with as after the Car Vertical video I though wow Chris is really comfortable now with being on the videos! The wheels are also right they are Tornado Alloys I had them new on my 1998 S 90 300 Tdi
This would make a great camper van get a military ambulance body on the back and there's some serious money to be made especially with having a 300 tdi. This would be a great rebuild. 👍
