As a dutch metal fan, a nightwish fan, a floor fan and a disturbed fan i have to say i am so glad Floor joined a dutch tv program for once, so that she can finally teach the majority of our people that metal can be THIS BEAUTIFUL. And i say majority because ofcourse there are dutch metal fans who know how good she is.
Yes I totally agree!! I hope in that in the next editions they invite more (symphonic) metal vocalists on the show. We have such amazing talent in the Netherlands that no one knows about except a few metalheads. Anneke van Giersbergen, Charlotte Wessels, Sharon den Andel (although she did the Belgian show last year), Simone Simons, Dianne van Giersbergen to name a few.
@@danakil1 I hope you've seen Sharon on "liefde voor Muziek 2018" the belgian counterpart. I really enjoyed her covers, for example this K's Choice cover th-cam.com/video/h5acQyWqz8U/w-d-xo.html
I think Henk deserves some special respect. Before he sang this he said "if in the world of classic music you go metal, you're out'. So this was a very fragile thing to do for him. But he did it anyay. He expended his horizon. Classic music can be great but it still shows how closed that world is if they can't respect anything else than their own kind of music and never try something different to expand the posibilities. This is the 21st century, not the 18th or 19th century anymore.
But do they not realize that Metal is the modern day classical music? Beethoven would have kicked some serious ass if he could have used electricity as well
Here I sit having lunch, thinking to myself "self, what is this guy doing trying to cover David's version of this song? He's good, but really?" Then my chewing slowed as the song progressed, and I found myself with the same goosebumps I get from the Disturbed rendition. By the end of the song, my mouth was full of sandwich and hanging agape in awe. Utterly beautiful rendition.
I mean, the guy is a trained opera singer. David couldnt hold a candle, lets be real. If he was to cover a song that requires more "edge", like "down with the sickness" for instance, then he would struggle, but on this there is just no chance he wont outsing David any time of any day.
@@petergroenendijk2297 Yes sadly, there is a lot in the studio version, but David's live performance of it was very good, and I don't believe he used autotune for that version.

This song, Frank Sinatra's 'My Way' and Time to say goodbye from Andrea Bocelli. Didn't know this song would make such an impact. So beautiful and full of emotion which is conveyed perfectly! Thank you Henk Poort for your cover!
This is now no.1 on the Dutch charts. Well deserved, Henk’s version is at least as good as Disturbed’s. Floor should be very proud. Because of her there is a metal song topping the charts in a country that mainly cares about pop. She may almost single handedly introduce metal into the pop culture of the Netherlands.
Metal was normal on the radio in the 90's and the early zero's on Dutch radio. Only the last 10/15 years it has vanished from the radio. The Gathering and Within Temptation already had top40 hits as Dutch acts, besides the well known artists like Metallica, Limp Bizzkit, Korn and the likes. So you could only say that she might be an influence on the return of metal in pop culture.
If you have not seen the Disturbed version of this song, which is what Henk was styling this performance after, do yourself a favor and listen to it. Henk is great, this performance is great, but the Disturbed performance is better.
If you want to hear a really awesome performance look up the sound of silence performed by Disturbed on the Conan O’Brian show. This is really good but Disturbed will give you chills. It does me everytime.

every now and then you come across something that is totally brilliant
best singing show i've seen. this format is all about respect and talent.
He has one of the cleanest and clearest voices I've heard. What a marvelous cover of this song
Floor and henk did phantom of the opera together it was henk who played it for years I love henk his voice but in that song floor was overpowering henk and he knew it and still both of them had respect
This gave me goosebumps. The best rendition of this song I’ve heard. ❤
Feeling the chemistry between Henk and Floor. Lovin it
100% . you can see the direction he looks just at the end, its directly in floor's eyes :)
Never heard of this man before until I saw him on Dutch TV yesterday. He's got himself a new fan. WOW WOW WOW goosebumps all over, best version in my opinion so far. Thank you Henk Poort.
#TeamFloor
My god... There is something so entrancing about the way Henk sings. Its incredible!
That guys voice can burst a rock. Emma's and his performance are my absolute favorites of this Episode.
3:07 floor having a henkgasm
correct
LOL Floor? HELL ALL OF US>> :)
I think we all had one lol
Emma had a big one at 2:27.
Poortgasm?
I think this is the best performance I've ever witnessed
Sweet Odin's Beard! His voice is like solid mature oak mixed with the darkest of chocolate...the timbre, the control, the emotion...wow. I bet David Draiman is sat watching this nodding along with due respect and admiration :)
Love your comment 😊
I know this comment is old but it hit the nail right on the head! I commend your writing skills good sir :)
Still think Draiman's got this one ahead a very little tiny toe. Lets say they're both frigging awesome!
I agree and I think it’s the vowels. David Draiman does the long n sounds that make the song, where Henk Poort holds the actual vowels, like a singer would normally do.
the great gentleman of Dutch music - absolutely great performance
Henk met THE Sound of Silence, magistraal. Maar The Phantom of the Opera, Henk en Floor, dit gaat NOOIT MEER overtroffen worden. Best DUET ever. Zooooo Mooiiiiiiiii. Dank lieverds 💕
Someone said he learned how to sing this way with a gravely voice in just two hours. Which shows how talented he is
This was downright awesome. First, as an opera singer distorting his voice which he'd never done. Second, controlling his nerves while stepping way out of his comfort zone. And at last nailing it and move Floor like this? Amazing!!
I won't lie, I get some tears coming out of my eyes now. Damn dude, a wonderful song sung by a wonderful singer. Henk, mad respect dude.
Henk, after all these years in theater, you still amaze me.
Get you a girl that looks at you the way Floor looks at Henk
She's 16 in those reaction shots, isn't she.
Floor probably was thinking "I must have a duet with him"
@@alanfoster6589 she looks way too old to be 16 lmao
@@larsdikwijls5388 Not in that look she gave Henk ;).
@@larsdikwijls5388 yeah. But she's been a fan of him since she was a teenager. Hence, why "she's 16" because she was a fangirl in those moments
@@Carrinthe would love to see Sharon from Within Temptation, on de beste zangers 2020
@@danakil1 I hope you've seen Sharon on "liefde voor Muziek 2018" the belgian counterpart. I really enjoyed her covers, for example this K's Choice cover th-cam.com/video/h5acQyWqz8U/w-d-xo.html
@@Carrinthe I havn't seen that yet, thx for the link i will watch it in the evening
The face of floor!!! (she was in another universe), Mr Poort absolute amazing!!!
Now she knows how we mortals feel when she sings.
Beethoven would have kicked some serious ass if he could have used electricity as well
Well done old man. Goose bumps. Never thought I would hear anyone sing it as well as David Draiman. Why have I never heard of Hank Poort? He rocks.
The metal world now knows you Henk.
Indeed! And, we are better for it!
Indeed! Big Respect for Henk! Damn I've gt Henkgasm
@@rheyv5790 hahah great
@@rheyv5790 me too :-)))
Damn right! Awesome!!!
Henk's reaction at the end of the performance, with that eyebrow raise he was like, "That's right, I did that."
Here I sit having lunch, thinking to myself "self, what is this guy doing trying to cover David's version of this song? He's good, but really?"
Then my chewing slowed as the song progressed, and I found myself with the same goosebumps I get from the Disturbed rendition.
@@juyifan7933 David Draimen also has classical training if I recall correctly, though obviously Henk has years more experience.
The big difference is that David uses autotune.
@@petergroenendijk2297 Yes sadly, there is a lot in the studio version, but David's live performance of it was very good, and I don't believe he used autotune for that version.
@@Iamthecrazyone if you are talking about the Jimmy Kimmel version then yes, he did use a lot of autotune.
I'm so glad he did Disturbed's version of this song. It really suits him.
Heerlijk!
I spent the entirety of this in tears. One of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in my life.
Holy , this guy could become one of the Lords of Metal
LOL
Yep at least collaborations
I came to see Floor and ended up falling in love with Henk 💜
Mr Henk Poort...what an anbelievable emotional crystal God-giftted...world class voice you are!!!I am completely blown away...by this performance!Thank you...
I stopped the stream when they said he's gonna sing this song just to tell my mom because she LOVES Disturbed's version a lot. Gonna show it to her later. This. Was. Perfection! I cried! I love how you can still hear that he's a trained opera singer but that he also tried to sing with distortion and did really well for someone who usually doesn't do that! Just wow!
I come back to this every couple of months.. I can't even begin to describe it, it sends chills down my bones every time. Thank you so much for this, Henk! I really love it.
I will never be able to get the sound of Henk's voice out of my head after hearing him sing.
Gosh! His voice is so incredible, great cover! Great version, wonderful voice!! He's amazing
Best version of this song I've heard.
I am in awe! That was one of the best vocal performances I have ever heard. I have no words.
Oh my goddess!!! Henk just destroyed me with his rendition of this classic. Began like a gentle rain then turned into a full on force of nature. He is absolutely amazing! Thank you to Beste Zangers for introducing me to this national treasure.
I love it when a man sings and has a man's voice too. It's gone, I miss it.
I have just heard him and Floor doing Phantom of the Opera on The Honest Vocal Coach youtube channel. Wow what a voice, this song is a beautiful song anyway, but his performance has just blown me away. Well done Sir.
This man is absolutely fantastic!! When he begins to rise his voice, I am getting goosebumps and my eyes start watering! He nails this song like absolutely noone else! My deepest respect, Henk Poort! I absolutely adore your voice!
Wow! What a surprise! I was not expecting this version of the song from Henk Poort, but he nailed it! Pow! I was already moved to tears, and then he blew me away when he turned his vocal amp up to 11! !!! He took a risk by stepping outside his comfort zone, and it paid off in all the best ways. Thank you for this powerful and emotional rendition, Henk Poort. Thank you for sharing your beauty and soul with all of us.
This 'Sound of Silence' is strong enough to create a storm in my body and my soul...
This cover is a GOLD! 👍👏❤
WHEN HENK STARTED TO SING I FELT HOW EVERYTHING INSIDE ME WAS CRUMBLING, IT'S AMAZING WHAT HE TRANSMITTED TO ME WITH THIS SONG.
I can only imagine what have you felt, Floor, as an admirer of Henk and to be watching and listening to him dedicating this song with such godly pipes... Wow!!
Came here for Floor, discovered other brilliant singers I had never heard of cause I'm French.
Well done, sir!
In the seventies France music was huge in the Netherlands.
It’s all comes with waves.
Vive Floor et vive la France !
@@Raysboss302 sorry about that 😀 (I'm French)
Gurl, same.
Played this at my grandfather's funeral in November last year. He loved this show and especially Henk Poort and Floor Jansen. This song, Frank Sinatra's 'My Way' and Time to say goodbye from Andrea Bocelli. Didn't know this song would make such an impact. So beautiful and full of emotion which is conveyed perfectly! Thank you Henk Poort for your cover!
Floor loves him, and I don't blame her...he is just amazing!
Unpopular Opinion. This is far better than the original.
This show does that😅
Simon and Garfunkel are my favorite band of all time--but you are right.
@@romebigred2 I think Henk just has that haunting strength behind his voice.
It's my favorite version.
If you have not seen the Disturbed version of this song, which is what Henk was styling this performance after, do yourself a favor and listen to it. Henk is great, this performance is great, but the Disturbed performance is better.
I would have loved to hear him singing Johnny Cash hurt
The "original" is by Cash! It's his song now.
@@neonman855 original is by 9inch nails
@@soucejo1 Woosh.
@@soucejo1 not anymore, once cash covers your song. It's his song
Ben Olofson True that!
He's absolutely amazing. I love the smiles on Floor's face as she listens to him.
i don't think i've ever heard a more powerful rendition of this song. Bravo. Thank you
If you want to hear a really awesome performance look up the sound of silence performed by Disturbed on the Conan O’Brian show. This is really good but Disturbed will give you chills. It does me everytime.
@@jeremykoepplin1587 no one will be able to defeat the disturbed version
Henk! You genius! That is a great choice and cover. Beautiful.
Wow! I think this man just made one of the best cover of this song, just like that. Good music is good music Mr. Poort, you're right!
I have no idea who these people are, but I have to say it amazes me the way that woman looks at Henk. Pure admiration. Like she is proud. Like watching someone you know and love do something really impressive. A genuine look. Not for the camera. But for herself.
The woman is Floor Jansen, an amazing vocalist in her own right the man singing (Henk Poort) was one of her idols growing up, checkout thier duet of Phantom of the opera.
WOW What a voice he has. OMGoodness. Made me cry. Mister Henk Poort, you made a metalhead cry. Just great cover.
Disturbed used auto tune
@@Melinmingle David was pretty pissed about that during the live performance on Conan. He was sick at the time & he still didn't want any autotuning. The studio performance is cleaner.
Floor may be the warrior princess of Metal Opera - but Henk was a God of Thunder that night.
Thor and the Valkyrie
I was really impressed with Disturbed rendition of this awesome poetry.
This man's voice is just like a roll of thunder !
Absolutely amazing gift God granted him !
Never heard of this man before but good grief I AM TREMBLING! That was incredible and so powerful! Love this song to bits and have my whole life but this might just be my favorite rendition of it ever! Thank you! Just wow...
Nattitude, Henk Poort is a dutch Opera singer.
Ongelooflijk goed.
Prachtig. Kippenvel elke keer weer.
I’m not at all tired of hearing this song by Henk Poort and I’ll hear it every day of my life. So mesmerising!
What an amazing range! And all of that at 63 years of age! Amazing! Man's still got it! :).
