the “problem” I have is that I simply don’t want to come out and be like “hey i’m gay” bc I feel like then there would be this pressure for me to get a girlfriend idk, and like I just want to start dating a girl and then say like “hey this is my girlfriend” but it’s pretty much impossible to have any girl interested in me as they don’t know that i’m gay aaahhhh i hate it here

I came out by introducing my first girlfriend to my friends. For me it was easier that way than just saying I’m gay. Just know that having a girlfriend isn’t a stipulation of coming out or saying that you’re gay.

"New experiences whether good or bad always start out scary." That really resonates with me and is a good motivator in general and not even with just things related to coming out. When I'm trying to decide what to do, I need to remind myself of that because otherwise I'll never do anything. Thanks for sharing your story. 💛 Can't wait for the podcast!

    I won't lie, I needed this more than I realized. Thank you✨
I relate to these experiences. Being outed, the difficulty of coming out to friends and family (most specifically parents), coming out ten thousand times, facing religion and many more. Although conditions aren't always ideal for self expression, I'm just so damn thankful for creators who have made a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth. Not religious, but I believe there's light at the end of every tunnel and you will find your light ❤️❤️

I came out as a bisexual woman back in 2018. since I was a kid, girls had always attracted me in some way. once I put that label on myself I felt so comfortable and proud but I now realise that I was just "attracted" to fictional men and celebrities. it took me a while to accept it. I didn't know how to suddenly change my sexuality and have to come out all over again. my dad is also in the way, I feel like im disappointing him because I do not like men, I used to when I was bi, but now its 100 percent u know? its 2021 now and im still in this journey. its not easy for anybody. sexuality is fluid and who knows, maybe in a year or two im back to being bisexual or whatever. all I know is that I am proud to be a lesbian, and thank you to you for teaching to embrace it. you are one of the few people that have helped me find my true self this year, I love you. I feel understood and happy.

Great video, it's never easy to come out and it can cause some rifts but in the long run your own happiness is always more important than whoever else you may upset. I haven't spoken to my father for 10 years and for the stuff he has said I won't ever forgive but I am so much more happier now than I was when he was in my life. Being confronted by a truth that challenges your belief system doesn't vest you with the right to control another person's destiny, no matter the noblest intent of trying to do so. If you cannot understand atleast try being kind and supportive, it will be far more rewarding than breaking the spirit of someone who looks up to you.
The well rounded, realistic and practical advice based on and along with talking about a very crucial experience of life. I can completely relate to and agree with maintaining a healthy distance as the best approach to allow those close to us to choose to accept and make peace with what they no longer can try to control.
Wishing you the best ahead, and sorry for commenting so late, TH-cam decided to recommended it only now!

Honestly, such great advice Mak! I had the same thing happen as you but I hadn't told anyone in school, everyone just started assuming it and I started getting bullied for being gay. Thankfully my friends and my younger sibling squashed the rumors and I was able to wait until moving out to explore that side of myself more and come out to more people. At 23 though, I still haven't "fully come out". And that's ok. It's a long journey to figure out and I was to reiterate exactly what you said : only you know when you are ready. Don't let anyone make that choice for you! 🌈🌈🌈🌈

Mak thank u so much for doing this!! you have no idea how much you're helping. this Thursday I tried to tell my father I was going on a first date with a girl I met through social media. it was scary because it could have been a catfish and I could have been unsafe, so I really needed my father's approval although I had my mom's already. it went awful. I was just starting to tell him about everything but as I said "someone" instead of "a boy" he immediately got mad and told me my brother and I are a disaster and that he wished he would have stayed single and never got married (so I wouldn't have born)... I felt so so so sad, I cried thinking of the reaction other parents have, that they say "you're the best thing that ever happened to me and that will never change no matter what", and there was my father who told me he wishes I was never born. I hope no one else has to go through anything like this. please listen to Mak when she says if you're not completely safe it's better not to tell. I wish I haven't told him. it sucks that you have to lie and maybe put yourself at risk or just go through this stuff alone because you can't count on your parents/family in general, but we can find a community and friends in social media and have support watching lgbt+ shows, movies... I hope whoever is reading this can find at least something good in their day today. I hope you can smile at least once. have a nice day, all the love from Argentina 💜

Thank you so much for this. I came out to my (also queer) cousin about a year ago and this year we had a plan to both come out to our other cousin together. However, I realized that I was not ready because I started questioning who I was again. She was also going to be the first person outside of my bubble that I would come out to and I really wanted to have that experience when I was ready for it, but I decided that I wasn’t ready yet. But, my cousin ended up outing me and telling her when I had told her repeatedly that I was not ready and I wanted to do it for myself. I’ll never get that experience back and even though she reacted in the best way I could have imagined, I wish I could have told her myself. I started crying when you were talking about when you got outed and you wish you could have done it yourself. I am so happy that I have at least a story that I can relate to and you are teaching a lesson to people everywhere that it is YOUR CHOICE when you want to reveal something so deep about yourself. Thank you for sharing all of your amazing content with us and educating the queer community on the important things.

i came out when i was like 13/14 because my mom asked me and i didn't want to lie to her, and it all went pretty well, but i still struggle with feeling comfortable with my sexuality because i came out before i was ready, so if you don't feel ready, don't feel bad about not having come out yet! you're allowed to progress on that journey as slowly or as quickly as you want. sending love to everyone!

Mak I just want to thank you for this video. After watching it twice already I can tell it will be my new comfort video. I can’t even tell you how much you’ve helped me while I was struggling with my sexuality. I’ve come out to my household and some of my closest friends and I’ve been super lucky. Some of them might not fully understand yet but they are willing to try and support. I want to come out publicly but I’m nervous because I’m heading into my first year of highschool and I’m not going to know anyone there. I don’t wanna be made fun or for my sexuality. Especially when I don’t have anyone else who has my back. Another thing I’m super worried about is coming out as lesbian and then not being able to change my sexuality... I’m worried that if I wake up in a year from now and would wanna date a boy (which I don’t think I would) but that people would say I only came out for attention.... so is it best to just come out as bi??? I don’t know?!? :(

naur cus same- the tough part is not knowing how they'll react and its just like even if u come out to them and later u dont identify as the label u chose atm while telling them, it'll be rlly hard to go thru all over it again. its totally the same for me, im pretty sure my mum would take some time and get over it and be cool abt it(i hope) but my grandparents + dad are literally the definition of homophobia smh

there is certainly a right time, like when you're safe. personally i would wait until im no longer financially dependent on my parents before coming out if you think they may react poorly. once you've moved out / support yourself there's not much they can do. at that point if they accept you that's amazing and if not you can decide how to proceed and what kind of relationship you want with them if any on your own terms

I too follow several lesbian couples on TH-cam, my girlfriend of 9 years dislikes all social media, but I watch for a couple of reasons. I’m 31 and I came out to both my parents as a young teenager. My parents are not religious at all, and I’m beginning to think that might be one of the reasons my parents accepted me like it was no big deal at all. As a matter of fact, my dad thought it was great because I wouldn’t go through what he called “the horrors of teenage boys” 😉 and of course accidentally getting pregnant was out of the picture. Seems to me that when parents are religious types they are apt to see being gay as a “problem”, or worse, as a choice. 🙄
In school (I live in New Hampshire) everybody knew because no one seemed to care either way.
I never cared who knew or who didn’t.
When a new year started or a new guy would transfer in, I’d get hit on, just once, and friends would pull the guy away and say “she’s gay”, and every time all any guy would say is “okay. Cool”.
I had girlfriends in school, we held hands, made out at the lockers or a football game, and acted like the “straight kids”.
but 12 years out of school now it’s funny to see how many of my girlfriends went on to marry guys. Well, actually that’s not funny, it’s kinda sad for the girls I knew we’re not bicurious, (a few were) but too scared to come out so they bury it by getting married “like normal people”. That’s a lifelong sadness all because they refuse to risk contacts to bigoted family members being lost. If a family member is homophobic there is nothing you can do about it. For me, a cousin, aunt or uncle who didn’t like that a was 100% into girls, it was their problem not mine.
Anyway, I’ve been following you on TH-cam for a few months now and I enjoy your videos. It takes a very responsible person to put yourself out there and especially to answer questions that you get from obviously young teenage girls that think they might be bisexual or lesbian. It’s a tough call to give advice to someone that young.
    You’re brave, and I respect that. 🌈✌️

I pray one day I am safe enough to come out. I don't live in a home or a country where I can come out and love who I love :( It makes me feel really lonely sometimes knowing my family doesn't really know who I am. I have no idea how my parents would react if they found out I'm a lesbian and it's scary thinking about it especially because they're extremely religious. But I know someday I'll be on my own and independent enough to find my own happiness with people who will accept me for me. I'm still really young but your videos give me hope💖

I’ve been confused about my sexuality since middle school…I’m now 19 and still don’t know what I would “label” myself. I’ve felt attracted to all genders but it’s when it comes to the intimate parts of a relationship where I get confused. Recently I’ve been feeling like I’m more into girls but I really just don’t know anymore…

    • @hanquokkasan

It's okay to not have it figured out! Something that I've been telling myself is that I'm more soul-sexual than anything, meaning that for me the most important part is who the person is and how we vibe rather than what they identify as, etc. If this mindset helps you to be okay with the uncertainty then I would encourage it, bc I know it's helped me, otherwise just go to where/who you feel drawn to, and don't worry about labels as much (:

    • @jessi8797
      @jessi8797 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@hanquokkasan thank you for the advice! I have always felt the way you described. The problem is everyone I talk to (no matter their gender) seems to only care about sex, so I feel like I need to have it figured out because I have yet to meet someone like me who cares more about feelings and romance than sex

@@jessi8797 I'm so glad that you related to my comment! Sexuality is a very fluid and confusing thing especially in a society that puts so much emphasis on sex as you described. @Jessi You may want to look into asexuality/demisexuality to see if it similar to how you experience attraction. Having labels can be a good way to communicate how you feel/ find a community, but please don't focus on it too much. You are just you and that is perfect. I have the same experience as you and I got a lot happier when I decided to just...exist as me. Some people would just use the word queer (not meant as derogatory!) to explain this experience.

i love this style of video it’s really easy to watch and feels super casual which is cool, for the future it would be a tiny bit better if the background music is a lil quieter, idk if it’s just me because i’m autistic but it makes it a bit hard to hear when you’re talking a bit quieter☺️

when i came out i was terrified, i came out to my best friend who i knew i could trust with anything, (she ended up coming out to me a few days after too). I slowly came out to a few more friends and they were all supportive! But it spread around that me and my friend were queer and we were made fun of a lot. But im so glad i have my best friend because we are like a team and we try to figure it all out together. 🏳️‍🌈

Hey Makayla, just wanted to comment on your video. I was actually raised in a Christian based family, and I was taught not to judge anyone by who they are or who they choose to be, I’m not implying that it was a choice for you by the way. I was taught that we are supposed to respect others, and not force anything on them. But yeah, just wanted to let you know that your awesome, and I love all your sense of humor

The only thing I'd like to comment on is your comment that "you'll never be done coming out." as a transgender woman, i'm not afforded the opportunity to come out necessarily because i usually get clocked as not the gender that i am. and that's common for many trans ppl.

I'm scared to tell my parents that homosexuality was actually added to the Bible bc they're gonna be like "so why are you defending that? are you gay?" and then i'd end up accidentally outing myself, when i literally never want to come out to my parents lol. I just know that they'll never accept me,,i know they support me in all that I do and they love me regardless, but when it comes to the lgbtq+ community, they're just hateful and just...I want my last year under my parents' roof to be non stressful and happy :')
