I checked my user manual for a 2015 Chevy Express 2500 and it tells me the oil is 75W - 90 but it says nothing about when to check nor change this oil. Any idea where I can get this info?
I have a '20 Silverado 1500 RWD. Goal was to replace rear differential fluid. However, no drain plug on the bottom of the axle. Is there another option of pumping out old fluid or do I need to open up cover? Thank you in advance.
You drain it by removing it easiest to loosen and remove bolts on bottom and side but leave a few on top loosened enough to let it drain then remove once finished.
Yes. Torque wrench is just an accurate way to apply force. Someone who wrenches every day usually has a feel for the amount of force applied. This plug isn't holding anything down, just itself in place. Snug s/b good. I have 3 different torque wrenches handy all the time and use them regularly.

If the gear fluid is low theres a reason for it. Rear diff fluid should be changed around 10k after break in then every 100k with synthetic gear fluid. If you do any off roading or drive through water that submerges the rear axles then you need to change the fluid as well because water can get in through the breather.
Most if not all chevys you need to either remove the rear diff cover to drain the fluid or can be sucked out with a pump which i use at the dealership on vehicles where removing the cover is more involved then removing a dozen bolts.

Love how clean yours is mine is an 08 in New Hampshire. Just getting the plug out is going to be a nightmare
A1 auto on how to change rear diff fluid
You don’t have to add any fluid most of these axles say to fill half inch below the plug

You can hand pump it out as well.
Short. Sweet. To the point ✌
+WHO DA NEIGHBOR Thanks for the feedback!
You over filled the rear end.. 14-18 1500 9.5" rear end is 15-40mm below the fill hole. Stated in the oem service manual.
Can the plugs be tighten without a torque ratchet?
Yes. It's a fill plug so make sure it's tight but don't over torque it. A snug fit is good.

Thanks. Does a grinding noise indicate low fluid or time to replace the entire differential?

Do you HAVE to change the rear gasket as well once you change the fluid?
If it's not leaking, no.
Should be reusable but give it a good look over for any cracking ect.
I have no lift an no jack stands. Can i do this procedure simply if the vehicle stands level on the pavement?
Yes, if you can fit under truck. I can, my brother's too fat.

Is it best to drain the fluid or just add fluid if it’s low?
