    Same amount of metal attached to my drain plug magnet as well.
    Changed transfer case fluid for the first time today at 79K miles.
    Plan to tackle the front and rear differential fluid change soon.

    Working for a dealership, some of the mechanics instructed me to change as much of the fluid as you can after 5,000 to 10,000km if you buy a new vehicle for that exact reason. Not always practical, but helps everything last longer.

      Definitely more wear during that first 5K

    I had the same amount of ferrous material and gunk stuck to the magnetic plug on mine as well. Did my transfer case fluid change last weekend at 58k, used AMSOIL too. Best fluid on the market.

    Helpful video.
    Out of curiosity, how'd your drain/ fill plugs hold up after you were finished? GM service procedure says to use thread sealant on both , but curious if you've seen any leakage on yours since you didn't seem to use any.

    • @TheSundaeDrive
      @TheSundaeDrive  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't had any leaks. Probably the safest way to do it is use thread sealant. Especially if you average low milleage. I will be doing another flush in 3 to 4 years due to how many miles I average. Over longer periods of time, the thread sealer is probably more important.

      The front differential has a rubber gasket on both the drain and fill plug, the transfer case does not because they don’t get screwed all the way in so I used thread sealant on the transfer case only

      On a level surface the fluid needs to be to the bottom of the fill plug: from the owner's manual, "To get an accurate reading (of the fluid level), the vehicle should be on a level surface. If the level is below the bottom of the fill plug (1) hole, located on the transfer case, some lubricant will need to be added. Add enough lubricant to raise the level to the bottom of the fill plug (1) hole. Use care not to overtighten the plug." But check your manual too in case it is different

      For the Love of God...you TORQUE BOLTS, NUTS, FITTINGS, PLUGS, ETC TO MANUFACTURERS SPECS. Torque means amount of force, hand tight may be too tight or too loose depending on the hand that's supplying the force. My dad had a good feel for it, I don't and usually over tighten unless I use one of my torque wrenches.
