    Hi, In this episode, we show you how we replace the serpentine belt of our Land Rover Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Puma. An easy DIY maintenance operation. If you own another type of Defender, this operation should be very similar.
    Here's the equipment needed for changing the belt:
    1x Screwdriver
    1x WD40
    1x 36 wrench & a hammer
    1x 10 wrench
    1x 3/8 wrench
    One important tip is to TAKE A PICTURE OF THE BELT PLACEMENT before you take out the belt. Like this, you won't have any problems putting back in place the new one.
    Enjoy! And don't forget to add a thumb up, subscribe to the channel, turn on the notification bell, & share this video.

    About Off-Track Family:
    We are a family of 4 with 2 children. We are overlanding for years now on wild tracks in our Land Rover Defender 110.
    Our expedition vehicle is a Land Rover Defender camper conversion. Some people say it’s more like a bug out vehicle but for us it’s the perfect 4wd off-road tourer with best 4x4 camping set-up.
    We bought this 4wd rig brand-new in 2009 and the engine is the 2.4tdci Puma version. We transformed it time after time in a real overland 4x4 touring camper and it’s now a perfect off-grid truck for wild camping, bivouac or simply as an overlanding Defender.
    We love enjoying time in nature and exploring the world as a family.

    Having purchased a previously owned vehicle this is one of the areas I was concerned about. I suspect it is still the factory fitted belt so I am very pleased to have seen your video on how simple it actually is to change. Thank you for the well formatted instruction.

      Thanks a lot for your comment. Sometimes it's easier than it seems. Just need some time to start the work. ;)

    You actually don't need to remove the fan. There is a yellow marking on the fan and when you position this marking to the belt tensioner you can release the pressure from the belt a shown, remove the old belt and install the new one. I have done it twice already after about 90.000 km each.

      Thanks for your message & sharing on another way to remove the serpentine belt.
      In any case, we find it easier to remove the fan as it stays in the way :)

    With the fan and shroud removed, take a look at the overall condition of the radiator for small leaks, and consider blowing out any bugs, seeds or other contaminants that may have clogged the fins.

    Love your instructional videos guys, please keep them up! When you put the fan back on, did you just spin it tight? Or did you need to tap back down tighter using the same wrench+hammer trick as you used to loosen it? Thanks!

      Thanks! We just put it back by hand and it rescrews properly when turn on engine

    Thanks for the upload. How often should you change this belt?

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The workshop manual talks about every 200'000km but you can just check how it looks and change it before that if you see it's damaged for exemple.

    Great video- after some ominous squeaking from the engine bay I am going to attempt this on my puma. Do you know what torque settings (if any?!) these bolts need to readjusted to? Thanks for the video :)

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! The best is to check the workshop manual if a certain torque is needed.

    Why did they put the engine so far back ? That means the bell housing bolts are almost impossible to reach. Looks like the engineers left the building.

    I am 2 years late: Nevertheless: When looking at your engine from the front (1:23 Mark), what is the device on the 10/11 Clock position? Is it the AC compressor or one of your accessories?

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  ปีที่แล้ว

      You must be looking at the heater box, it isn't one of our accessories

      You should confirm with a garage to be sure you take the one needed for your Defender.
