UPDATE: As of firmware 1.16 GoPro has moved where the New Custom Preset button is located. When selecting a preset, instead of scrolling down to the '+' icon, hit the 'edit' icon (3 horizontal lines) in the upper right hand corner. That will then allow you to edit the Presets and will show you the '+' icon to add a new Custom Preset. In addition, you can now see the Presets on the back screen while you are scrolling through with the Secret Menu.
Hello, can you do a video from this? I have the v1.72 but still cannot see the presets on the back screen in the secret menu, I'm really frustrated now, please can you help me?
Thank you for all of your videos. I recently purchased the Flip 9, and Macromate Mini and will be using them in January. I especially liked the idea of the 2 button approach for changing setting underwater while using the housing. That way I could switch between regular and Macro settings while underwater. But today that changed. I upgraded my Hero 10 to Version 1.16 and they no longer offer Custom settings. I did not know that before the change. Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you so much for this. Someone also suggested (As an option) to go to GoPro Labs and update the camera to read QR Codes; then set up specific ones for each use, print out the code and laminate it so it can go underwater, and then just scan them to set the camera to the desired setting. What are your thoughts on that?
@@marshallbreite4647 That would be the ultimate DIY pro move. We have a turnkey solution along those lines in development right now, but it isn't quite ready yet.
@@backscatteruw Apparently quite a few people are already doing it. On TH-cam, I found a guy snowboarding and clicking on the QR code to set his camera - and others.
Did the latest (1.72) software update change how to get to the secret screen? I can't seem to get to the wrench. I've watched your video several times - mashed the mode button and engaged the capture button but it just starts recording...no wrench. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for the explanation! Although, I'd like to ask about the macro and red lenses attached to your diving housing. They seem pretty cool, do you know where I could buy them? Or the brand name? Thanks!

Thanks for the video, didnt know about the secret menu.. Many suggest to put the max ISO at 400 to remove grain and noise. Havent tried it yet, what is your opinion on this?
That setting may be fine for shooting topside with plenty of sunlight, but ISO 400 is just too limiting for general underwater use. The footage will be too dark in most cases. That being said, if exclusively shooting in shallow, bright conditions then it may be fine, but the camera will also likely default to an appropriate ISO in that case so there just isn't much of a need for that limit.
Another great clear explanation. I wonder what is your take on Superview vs Wide. Also if the Auto White Balance changes too often during a shot. I usually leave on Native. But maybe Auto is smarter? I dive in apnea in NY, so water is green, and visibility changes. I basically just changed the GoPro Presets instead of making custom ones. It would be great if GoPro would allow naming the custom presets using the phone app, it should be simple. And if it would allow to completely turn off the front screen to save battery and still be able to access the list of presets. I have the Hero 10 and if I turn the front screen off, the presets never come up.
We tend to favor Wide over Superview to avoid the fisheye wide angle distortion effect. It is still somewhat present in wide, but superview makes it pretty exaggerated. That's really just a preference though.
@@backscatteruw i could already access tge peesets. I hope the new update allows accessing the presets with the front screen completely off. So far it has to be on for the shortcut to work. The battery life of the hero 10 is a bit disappointing, so turning off the front screen may help a bit in extending the battery charge

Thank you so much for this clear no nonsense instruction for setting up my 9 for underwater. Can’t wait to try it out.
Thanks for sharing it, It's o helpfull 👌😉
Thanks, I'll try these on my my Hero 10 with Macromate Mini.
Can it be accessed by buttons in GoPro hero 8
Yes, the process is similar for Hero 8
@@backscatteruw Thanks for the reply 🤗
Where can I purchase a flip macro and red filter like the one in this video?
Right here!: www.backscatter.com/FLIP10-Pro-Package-with-SHALLOW-DIVE-Filters-15-MacroMate-Mini-Lens-for-GoPro-HERO-5-6-7-8-9-10
hello - what would be the equivalent of 'gopro' color on the hero 9 for the hero 10; on the hero 10, there are only "flat, natural or vibrant"
We find that Natural is the closest to the older GoPro color setting
@@backscatteruw thanks again!

Yes!
@@backscatteruw Thank you. good timing I am leaving for a liveaboard. I plan to have the movie up in December.

Nothing, just add lights to the mix for even more vibrant color and brilliance in the foreground of your shots.

Make sure the front screen is turned on. It must be on for the secret menu to work. Feel free to give us a call if you have any issues.

Yes, these settings and the Custom Preset method works the same on Hero 10

White balance auto is never a good idea.
When using our Flip Filters the camera can run in auto white balance and get great color underwater
