    Really helpful, thank you much for explaining pros and cons and for giving a succinct explanation of each of your decisions and possible alternatives to these. I hope to get even better footage next time-- hopefully great raw footage without relying too much on post.

    Nice informative video thank you. I have a GoPro 8 and will definitely watch this again before I go diving next. I mostly dive where visibility averages 5m and at depths down to 20+m. I will use the narrow view due to me videoing small subjects and use a macro lens made for a GoPro3, unfortunately I have to hold the macro lens up to the housing lens to get the desired result. Also using narrow disable 4K so I shoot in 1080.Thanks again

    As always, an excellent treatment for underwater. I've found the pink filter perfect for snorkeling with my Hero 7, but my new Hero 8 it's hard to get a filter mount unless you use the dive case. Without an underwater filter you have to do more work in post.

    • @davesdigitalnomadlife

      One thing to think about tho...the extra dive is cheap insurance for your camera giving you double the protection from water damage

    • @ThierryC2373
      @ThierryC2373 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well... I used a red filter on a recent scuba dive with my GoPro 9 and the footage looks awful when the sun hits le lens, it takes a lot of work in post to remove the red hue which changes widely depending on surface conditions (the more waves on the surface, the more shifts in light conditions). I will never use a red filter again with a GoPro, it ruins everything, it is easier to add some red in post than removing it in any kind of wild range.

      Get a dive video light. Has to be a wide angle designed video light. If you can afford it get a good/powerful one. Regular dive light ‘spot’ lights tend to overexpose one ‘hot spot’ and underexposed the rest. Can be used as a dive light too.

      Hi Edgar, the Hero7 Black, Hero 8 and Hero 9 all work fine and are great cameras. The white balance of the newer cameras could work better underwater but I didn't make a direct comparison. Consider getting a red underwater filter for better colors.

    Thanks for this, I’m diving next weekend and going to try it out. I’ll be in Monterey so it’ll be a little darker in the kelp forests, any specific suggestions for that not mentioned in your video? Also my biggest problem I’ve found is like you said the shots get very shaky, especially when I’m cold. Are there any camera setting that help stabilize shots?

    • @MountMediaChannel
      @MountMediaChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lowering the frame rate to 30fps or 25fps will help in a darker environment - the electronic image stabilization needs high shutter speeds to work properly. Raising the ISO would be the only solution but this would lead to ugly footage

    Hey , thanks for these helpful tips . I’ve a question. Actually,I am a beginner with using a go pro ,so while trying to take a shots of fish underwater with a selfie stick by the go pro , all the fish run a way and the footage looks bad , so the question is ,Are fish afraid of a selfy stick because it looks like a hunting weapon?

    • @DirectorDavoPaul
      @DirectorDavoPaul 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spend some time, extend your arm even when you're not shooting. The fish will get used to you but you need to stay around for a long while. Don't chase. They sense it, My best shots happen when i just chill and relax. also, bring a bit of bread rolled into balls or bait with you to get them to school around you. Takes time. :)

    • @MountMediaChannel

      If possible I would use 60fps even - I would not go up to 120. For the night dive you should use 30fps. 5K gives you a slightly better image quality but I personally would prefer the higher frame rate.
