Yay! Congrats on your progress. I'm excited to see what grows in the hoop house. It looks like you have lots of room for more stuff in addition to the raised bed too.
@@ehopem4877 thank you! lots of room! Just not enough water 😅 * yet. don’t want to get toooo ahead of myself. But having such a mild winter (compared to what we are used to) I super hope to be able to grow some nice cool season greens 🥰
LOVE the hoop frame and plastic cover! Simple way to create a flexible “green house” that can be opened up in the daytime:) Congrats on the mudding progress!
@@erwinsegers3696 I do lots of hay/straw and compost mulch. The straw & other mulching help keep the roots and soils warm. Doesn’t do much for the above parts of the plant especially when it frosts. The hoop house is amazing against frost. My tomatoes are still rocking it! ✌🏾💜
I just did a pvc hoop house with plastic here in Colorado. The plastic lasted 2 hours. Lol. I'm going to try again, but it's pretty windy up here on the mesa.
Yes! The wind can be a pain, we come from MT where it is super windy too. We roll the sides tightly down with a piece of 2x4 and weight it down as well as pvc clips to clamp the plastic down to the pvc. Helps a ton!
it's not just any person who can create a youtube video. Both you and your husband are good at making these videos and I wanted you to know. I so want to do what you guys are doing. But I'm not sure exactly when and how. So until I figure that out I am watching youtube. Thanks for sharing and inspiring others to do the same.
I appreciate that very much! I enjoy making videos and sharing. It’s a journey to even begin the journey. Hopefully watching TH-cam will help you figure out your own way to do things ✌🏾💜☺️
Thank you!!! 🥰The bees down here kinda do what they want haha. Last winter any warm day (around 50 degrees) they would come out to look for food. They don’t seem to have a solid hibernation period. Always warm enough throughout the year to be at least partly active
Sounds like alot of bees. Neat hoop house. I found at one time that the bees in our area of Oregon(a couple of months ago)showed up in the morning tge whole summer than the yellow jackets showed up in the later afternoon. That sure surprised me..
SO MANY BEES! Haha. Bees do such different things from region to region! We found these guys are out all year long when they days are above 40. Was so strange to see them out in December last year 😅✌🏾💜🐝
Awesome progress! How do you protect your garden from critters? We have many deer on the land here that bed down bring their young to drink from our cattle troughs. We have also seen javalina recently. Wildlife is great but also worries me for future food growing prospect.
There is a fence that goes around the garden area (I am in progress of moving it further out) but one day a fence around the whole property. As well as we are here most of the time and our dogs help deter critters. Want to get Livestock guard dogs in future. It is mostly cows we have to deal with. Cows are truly the worst destructive animal we have to deal with. (Same fence out situation in MT, we are used to cows, but AZ cows are way feral, more destructive, and so desperate) so that’s been the hardest things to deal with. Then the cats do their cat thing to curb the crazy rodent populations. The javelinas have not been to much a problem except with my mini root cellar, they bust open the lid to eat onions 😂
@@a_fellow_homesteader i love livestock gauridian dogs. I have had kuvazs, greatpyrenese and marrema-pyrenese cross. We have a sanctuary for a small herd of indian zebu cattle that we have to protect from the range cattle. We use a blm donkey to protect them. The fencing here is in sad shape. I like to joke that the wires are holding up the the sticks rather than the sticks holding up the wire. There is an abandoned garden area that someone extended the height of the fences with by adding higher poles and then weaving a network of fishing line. That area was too big for me to want to work on my own but after watching deer jump right over the fence in what used to be a childrens garden i need to seriosly rethink where i put my efforts. @@MosaicHomestead the main gabion wall? Nope ☺️ no mud. I will plug spaces between rocks with mud but we like the rock and wire look. We may paint the basket wire so it blends in a bit more tho ✌🏾💜
@@MosaicHomestead that is done a lot with tire style EarthShips, So the mud sticks to the tires nicely and where there is bare earth walls. I did a lot of that on our first EarthShip.
