Hello. Shinkansen is much easier as you can take it from Osaka city center. If you fly, I recommend you to fly from Osaka airport (ITM) to Tokyo HND. @tinale9458

We were supposed to be in Tokyo from December 5-20, 2023 but my wife got sick 1 day before our flight...sad to say our trip to Tokyo was cancelled...

Tokyo's winter illumination is the best. I love just strolling in Roppongi and Akasaka after dark between Christmas and early January even if it's very cold. The nice thing is December is dry and sunny most of the time.
I looove walking past stores in the season, almost every one of them play Mariah Carey or KinKi's Cinderella Christmas 😂. Altho I think Japan's KFC is a bit aji ga usui compared to Indonesia, I try to eat some when Im there in December.
My fav jinja for Hatsumode is Toyokawa Inari ❤ but hatsuhinode is usually in Osaka after watching oshogatsu live concert with my friends 😂 I bring lots of Kairo and drink lots of warm sake hehehe..
It's sad I can't go this year-end because of work.. Maybe, hopefully 2023-2024. Last was 2020 new year and I got a daikichi, hoping for a great year. I guess that didnt happen right 🤭

I wish I could spend Christmas in Tokyo 1 day. Lights are bright already in Tokyo but the added Christmas decors made it more enticing!! But what it makes honto sughoi is @ 2:00 @ 2:59 and @ 19:38 when Kengo san wears Santa 🙃

I am arriving in Tokyo on Dec 22th (Staying at Akihabara and then move around) and will stay there until Jan 8th. I'd love to go to a place to eat Soba during new years eve and then watch the countdown. However im having a hard time finding a place that's not completely booked, including several Hotels/Towers dinner courses and some countdown events. What would you recommend for us to do? Im glad that you mentioned that there will be trains too during the night. Thank you so much again!!

Have our shinkansen tickets reserved for Kanazawa on New Years Day and then back to IIyama, and looking forward to ringing in the new year at Senso-ji! Regarding non reserved Shinkansen tickets, when do they become available for purchase?
1 month before the travel date to the last minutes right before the train departure.
I will be visiting with 2 friends for the last 3 weeks of December and will be flying out on New Years. Are all the bullet trains fully booked up in December? We were planning to take the trains from Narita to Tokyo to nagoya, then to maibara, kyoto, onomichi, Hiroshima. Then Himeji on Christmas and go that evening on the train to Tokyo. But is everything full already or is it still possible to get tickets the day of?
It's getting pretty full in the end of the year and new year days, but other days in December should be ok. If you know the schedule, it might help to make reservation in advance. Have a great trip. :)

It seems Enoden (Enoshima-Kamakura) doesn't operate after midnight until 1/1 morning. Yokosuka line to Kamakura runs some trains after midnight, and for Odakyu from Shinjuku to Enoshima, they run special Romance car 4:50 Shinjuku arriving Enoshima 6:13. It will be warmer than usual year they say, but still cold so stay warm and enjoy! @@margaretbanana

Great idea to visit Asakusa and Harajuku. Many non-touristy shops are closed on January 1st excetp the souvenir shops or restaurants in Asakusa. If you have specific shops you liked to visit, it might worth checking with them. Have a great new year trip.

Hello. Yes, I re-checked but there aren't any outdoor countdown events I could find. People might gather Shibuya or Shinjuku unofficially, and private bars and clubs might have events. It seems they will have countdown in a temple in China town in Yokohama.

I'm interested to visit gala yuzawa. Does it make sense to stay in tokyo ueno and do multiple daily trips to gala yuzawa? Instead of booking accommodation in yuzawa.
Yes, if you get JR Tokyo Wide Pass, you can visit Gala Yuzawa for 3 days for 15,000 yen. It doesn't take long so it might be a good idea to keep your other luggage in Ueno.

If you land Tokyo and have your hotel in Kyoto, you will need to take the bullet train to Kyoto or fly to ITM. Have a great trip. :)
