I think this video cover the most important point of going into Japan, good job as always! I'm already a bit sad that i'm not again in vacation but who i am to complain, i've already spend 30 days (mainly february ) this year in Japan. But that doesn't matter, after seeing this video, it remind me how important it is for me to explore japan. So many things to explore but only one life to do so.... I'm now motivated to work harder to be able to visit Japan once again! Ganbatte ^^ !
Thank you for watching and your comment. It's always sad when good travel finish, but that's great you had a good time in Japan. I know... life goes by so quickly. I'll work harder to make more videos too. Ganbatte kudasai! ^^
Your videos are very thoughtfully constructed and provide more detailed and useful information than any others we have seen. We are very grateful, thank you.
Kengo-San, what a great video for first time visitors to Japan. I would echo the suggestion to not just visit the traditional big three of Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto if possible. Whilst these are great places to visit they are often super busy with tourists. Smaller cities and towns are often pretty peaceful and very welcoming of visitors, as they aren't overwhelmed with tourism. Hokuriku and Tohoku are just two of many areas that really merit spending time there. I would recommend a mixture of business hotels and ryokans to get a real experience whilst not destroying your budget.
Another fantastic option is renting a machiya. I booked one with 3 others in Kyoto during peak cherry blossom season, and it comes out to ~$50 USD a day per person.
Thank you Jamie san. I'm making travel videos recently and that is not only to show the different regions of Japan, but also to capture the fun of planning a trip and traveling slowly in Japan. I think you are a master of that as you probably have visited more places than me. :) I learned adding business hotel in the middle is a must for loundry.
Loved this video. Such important information for first time or returning visitors. I used all of your videos when I planned my first trip last November and I continue to watch your channel to help me plan my next trip. Arigato, Kengo-chan!😎🌺🍍🏝🥷
Thank you Lilly san!! I appreciate you continued watching my channel even after your first trip. I'd like to capture the seasonal sceneries and show you more different areas in Japan. Arigatogozaimasu!😊🌷
Visiting sights is of course important, but for me, experiencing typical Japanese things is just as important or even more important. This can be totally different things, depending on your interests. For me, the most important experiences are: - staying in a Ryokan: sleep in a Japanese room with tatami mats on the floor and a futon / enjoy fantastic halfboard with amazing food (not suitable at all for vegetarians or vegans, unless especially mentionned) / enjoy onsen - staying as often as possible in an accommodation that has baths (sometimes onsen with mineral water, often "normal" water, but still great). For that, the Dormy Inn hotel chain is great, as most of them have baths (and are in general good places to stay at) - eating great food and trying out new things. Most restaurants in Japan are serving only one type of food, like sushi, tempura, ramen, udon, sukiyaki, Japanese curry etc. - typical Japanese things: this can be so many things, like manga, gachapon, karaoke, maid cafes, kaaui culture, electronics, pachinko, theme parks like Ghibli in Tokyo etc.
Yeah, Japan has so much to offer, and they are way more than the door you use to enter into japan (whatever it is, food, anime, martial art, hkking or as for me, architecture ) Having an autentic experience, i mean visiting and doing thing you can only do in Japan is for me too what you should seek but i understand why kenchan is also thinking about other who aren't that adventurous. I'm gonna give one exemple: A friend of mine where going on a trip with his father in egypt. I was naturally jealous because at the time, i haven't travel that much. Needless to say that they where no reason to be jealous because sadly, my friend stay in the club med all the time, he didn't even see any pyramid, any temple! What i mean by this extreme exemple is that this kind of people trully exist, and even if some aren't that extreme, it's nice to give them advice on how to go travel without being too adventurous. My first travel in Japan, 2 years ago (20 days ) follow the so called "golden route" without hakone ( We only add Hiroshima/Miyajima to the plan because i was insistent with my friend ). So when i return this year in february, without the same friends, i went mostly out of the traditionnal spot. For my friends, it was impossible to not spend mutliple days in Tokyo and they where shock that i skip the city for my travelplan! I didn't have to compromise with them so i went nuts with hikking during multiple days, going to restaurant exploring what each region has to offer without compromising, a kyushu trip of 9 days with some island visited (ikeshima for exemple), koyasan, etc... All in all, it's your vacation, we should dig into what we like, what dream we wanna accomplish. As long as we respect japanese people, it should be the time to go full exploration mode, visit amazing place, trying unbelievable food, make your own path, etc... I respect people who wanna travel without going out of their confort zone too much but they are missing the point (or at least what i think it is ) Anyways i've wrote too long, sorry for that. I just love talking about japan ^^
@@Eldiran1 I see that you are very passionated about Japan 🙂, as I am. Of course everybody is different, and for some people doing "only" the Golden Route is totally fine. I just wanted to give some input, and point out what is important for me, as it might give interesting input to people planning their first trip to Japan.
Arigato gozaimasu for your excellent and informative video. This has given me so much information. I have limited mobility and your hints and tips are useful. Thank you 🙏🫶
Thank you. As I plan to travel to Japan for the first time next year I found this video very useful. I have read information about Japan and watched videos but your video sums everything up and provided new information and tips. Thank you.
Awesome work with this comprehensive guide! Will be really helpful for my next trip. After having done the Golden Route, I will be visiting Kyushu for my 2nd trip.
Thank you for watching and leaving your message. That sounds great to visit Kyushu! I hope you have a godo time at the off the beaten paths of Japan this time. :)
When planning your itinerary to Japan, it of course depends on how much time you have, and what your interests are. If you have more than 2 weeks, I would definitely not "only" do the golden route, but also include 1-2 less visited places. And not do a day trip to the Fujisan area for example, as those places get a huge amount of day time visitors, and are so much more pleasant before the day visitors arrive, and after they leave !
Two examples for that: Kawaguchiko by Mount Fuji (which I prefer over Hakone) Mijayima Island by Hiroshima / here you can also stay in a Ryokan, and if you love seafood like me, you will be in paradise 🙂
A few ideas for not so visited places which are not far from the golden route: - Okoyama: for great food, a beautiful Japanese garden and a beautiful castle - Takamatsu: again, a beautiful Japanese garden and a great gateway to the modern art island of Naoshima, which can be easily visited on a day trip - Kurashiki: the "Venice of Japan", also the "Jeans capital" of Japan, and lovely things to do and see - Kanazawa: definitely not a hidden place, but still, wonderful. A lively fish market, beautiful Japanese garden, Samurai and Geisha quarters and great food
@@swissfoodie3542 I did literally every one of those places other than Takamatsu on my last trip in October! Great suggestions. I'd also add going over the bridges to Imabari and on to Matsuyama!
