Just got back from 8 days and 7 nights in Tokyo, with day trips to Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima. Sure, it was a lot to do but very much worth the hustle and bustle! Here’s a good tip, if you haven’t mentioned it-if planning to ride the Shinkansen, try to avoid trips on weekends as they tend to get booked AND sold out. The Japanese are just like us Americans as they work during the week and travel, en masse, on the weekends. Oh, the Japanese are very friendly, especially if you speak to them in Japanese.

Came home from a 2 week guided tour a couple of weeks ago. Recently went to Japan. Definitely didn’t research as much as i could’ve. One was that while money exchanges were common in certain areas of tokyo. Getting money from an atm and just paying the atm fee was cheaper (gave more value per dollar) than the actual exchanges. Also a lot easier to find depending on where you’re at. Also seriously recommend travel light. Laundry mats do exist and are open pretty late. So just wash clothes while there and buy some outfits if you must. Its not that big of a deal to have a check in, but was more cumbersome than it needed to be if i went carry on only 😅
I really love logging on and seeing your videos first thing in the morning. As always, thank you so much for being so helpful. Btw, love your background. Its soooooo cute!!!
I feel like the advice about social media is relevant for any trip and any country. Whenever someone tells me they found a city or attraction underwhelming, it usually ends up that it wasn't in their interests to begin with, but the internet told them it was a "must see". Also, agree on reserving train tickets. A lot of people online will tell you that outside of holidays, you can just show up and you don't need to reserve. And while that's true, you might get unlucky and have to wait for the next train or so, or end up having to stand for the whole ride in the unreserved car. Not ideal if you are carrying all your bags or are on a strict schedule.
I have been researching Japan since middle school 😂 going for my 30th bday in November! Super excited! Love your videos as always!!! Do you have a video on how to pre-book the trains?
@@ElijahNetzel I haven’t made a video yet! But this last trip I booked all my Shinkansen rides through Klook! You can do it a lot in advance! My code might work but it might work only on the first purchase. So maybe try and save it for the more expensive ride. BUILDYOURMOXIEKLOOK Then once you get the QR code, just go to the major train station. Shinjuku. Tokyo. Shibuya stations etc. And look for the little scanner :). Then you just click English and then scan ur code and the tickets come out! It is way less hard to do it like that than buying it there on the kiosk :) You can try the kiosk a few days in advance too :)
@@buildyourmoxie thanks so much for the reply! I have heard of them lots but never really checked them out much since I didn't need to book anything through them. But I also didn't realize how easy it'd be to book trains thru Klook! How neat! I will definitely look into it. Thanks so much!
i’m going next year in october but i’m so glad i stumbled upon ur page and this video! i try to be a prepared person so i’m doing as much research as i can beforehand😭

Another wonderful video about Japan. Next time, I will download the translation apps because I did not on our first trip to Japan. Looks like it is so handy. I don’t speak much Japanese even though I am half-Japanese 😎🥷💕🍍🏝️
This is definitely giving me a peace of mind that im doing the right thing to research and learn everything prior my arrival in Japan in just less than 3 months (cant believe is so close now) What im stressed now is booking all my activities as the big thing like flights and hotels are all settled. Your videos have been so helpful and cant thank you enough even watch your Japan haul and saw few items I might grab to try myself.
Thank you for the great TH-cam video. I will be making my second trip to Japan in December. My first trip I made my fair share mistakes. I wish I’d seen this video before my first trip. Thank you very much Erica!
Thank you michael!!! Hehe always good to see your comments! Yay! Japan in December is going to be such a blast!! Where are you going to head this time?
I love all of your tips! Your videos were so helpful for planning my last trip to Japan and I can't wait to go again soon. Thank you for all you do! =)
Everything makes perfect sense to me and it also makes me feel like less of a lunatic for checking how long it’ll take from the hotel where I’m staying to get to certain places 😂
You don't have to bring so many clothes as you can always go to uniqlo or GU buy clothes there. As they always have clothes for the season you are there for. And going to different regions of Japan, it's pretty cool to get different ic cards as the one for Hokkaido has a flying possum on it.
@@saharelsayes4195all the clothes they have out for autumn will also be perfect for spring time :). Go to Shinjuku, Shibuya, harajuku. Lots of shops. Harajuku will have thrift shops if you like thrifting! Uniqlo is always a staple so if you get overwhelmed you can always go there hehe. Takashimaya malls are more high end. So just be sure to look at the prices!
I agree with your assessment of Japan, love all the delish foods. briefing around, etc. etc. Planning to visit Fukuoka next Spring - have you been or any tips?
So far I’ve heard that you need to know a little bit more Japanese there! I’m gonna start learning more Japanese before I go! Everyone that has been has said it’s so beautiful!
For Japanese people, Fukuoka is famous for spicy cod roe, motsunabe, and Hakata tonkotsu ramen. If you go to Dazaifu, you can often find Umegae-mochi, a type of bean paste rice cake, on sale at the approach to the shrine. When it's freshly baked, it's crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, and delicious. Having visited Fukuoka several times, I recommend Amabi, a strawberry warabimochi sold at a shop called Ito King at Fukuoka Airport and Hakata Station. It doesn't keep well, so buy it at the store and eat it at your hotel. It's a rice cake made with Amaou strawberries, which are famous in Fukuoka. Also, although it's inconvenient to get there, the squid sashimi at Nishinoura Ika Ikizukuri Namihei in Itoshima is excellent.
@@annchee1329 Kyushu, including Fukuoka Prefecture, is interesting everywhere. I recommend Nagasaki, Beppu, and Yufuin, which can be accessed by train from Fukuoka. Nagasaki is the last city in the world to be bombed, and is a place that people from all over the world should visit to think about nuclear weapons. In addition to the Atomic Bomb Museum, there is the Western-style garden Glover Garden and Inasa Mountain, which has a beautiful night view. Famous foods are champon, sara udon, Turkish rice, and castella. There is Huis Ten Bosch, a famous Dutch theme park for Japanese people, but it may not be enough for foreigners. Personally, I would like you to see the Seto Kancho Bridge in Sasebo, which is a short walk from Sasebo Station, one stop away from Huis Ten Bosch. Here, you can see the power of the tides right in front of you. Although it looks like an ordinary river, this is the sea that connects Omura Bay and the East China Sea, and the water flows with incredible force between high tide and low tide. Beppu and Yufuin are located in Oita Prefecture and can be accessed from Hakata Station by taking the Yufuin no Mori or Sonic express trains without changing trains. Both are famous hot spring areas in Japan, so if you like hot springs, they are the perfect place for you. Oita Prefecture is especially famous for fried chicken and chicken tempura, and there are many restaurants serving them.
I overly like your planning style, very detailed. Especially the tip for the smaller carry on and the duffel bag, almost every hotel has laundry and I just do laundry once on a ten day trip.
Omg hi!!! 😍 so happy you saw it! 😍 I love my chefette so much!! I’m going to be making a Barbados video soon! I just want to make sure it’s absolutely perfect so people visit my favorite tropical island! I have family in Barbados. Thank you for saying hi! I’m smiling so big right now 🤩
Great question! I use my luggage weigher 🤩. I bring it with me every time I travel on an airplane! I love this one. It’s accurate and only a few bucks! amzn.to/46V9B2o
Thanks for your great vlogs on Japan, I'm now obsessed with visiting the country 😅 What would you suggest for a first-timer, Tokyo or Sapporo for the snow, seeing that I had never seen snow before.
Thanks for the helpful video and beginners guide - especially about ESims. I check out Airalo and it looks good. QUESTION - the plan is for 28 days but well be there for 31 days. If we buy a second plan to cover the extra days, can the remaining 25 days be changed to use up back home in Australia. Thanks.
Hi hi!!! You can just pay a few dollars and top it off with like 1, 2, 5 gb more! :) no need to buy an entire new plan! Also try the code ERICA6357 and it saves you extra few bucks! That’s pretty much the last 3 days of your trip! ❤️ I just asked someone else and they said the code worked! ref.airalo.com/LfBj

Hi! I’m planning to stay in a hostel in my entire trip (Osaka,Kyoto,Tokyo) as I’m only travel by myself. My question is…is it safe for me? As this would be my first time staying in a hostel. Thank you
I would say always have caution whenever you travel especially by yourself :). Always good to scope out your surroundings. If it were me personally, i would feel safe in Japan in a hostel :)
Hi!! I recommend Klook cuz it’s super easy and very straight forward. I find it much easier than random websites online. You can pay in your currency, you can order way ahead of time, and look at all the schedules and compare prices. Then you get a QR code and you go to a major train station and scan it in and ur tickets will come out :) It’s a free app. Idk if my code will work but you can try and it might save you money. Hello, I've been watching a lot of your videos lately because we're taking our 1st trip over to Tokyo. Thank you for all the insight! I do have a question, I'm not sure if you can answer or not. I plan on hiking Mount Fuji. I plan on purchasing one of the walking sticks where they brand the stick with a "stamp" as you go to each station up the mountain. I would like to know what the procedure may be to getting that onto the plane for the travel home, and whether I need to check it, or if it's even possible at all. Not sure if you'll know or if you've seen this occur on your travels. Anywho, thanks again for all your help so far!!
Hello. I'm Japanese. I don't know much about Mt. Fuji, but are you talking about "金剛杖(kongou due)"? If so, you will need to leave it with the agent when you board the plane. I don't think you can bring it into the airplane cabin. Thank you for considering traveling to Japan. Have a nice travel!
@@JeanC... oooo Japanese magic perm?! 🤩 for sure harakuju and Shibuya will have some places. You can also try ginza but it is gonna be more pricey there cuz it’s like Beverly hills of Tokyo
awesome video! Thank you. as we are traveling soon to Japan. How difficult to use english in Japan? I am worried cant communicate in the matter of urgency for example, or bought wrong item or something else. I heard, some busy places the staff not keen waiting for us to use google translate
@@Tendangan-Matahari I don’t speak Japanese (yet!) and I rarely took out my translation app because it takes time. I haven’t had any issues! I would say the best thing to do is be aware of your surroundings. Follow what others are doing and then copy 😁. One time my little ticket thing wasn’t working but they were patient with me and we figured it out on the side! As far as food goes, you should be good to go as long as you watch what others are doing! ❤️
Hi - great vid - i was screwing around with getting great rates to goto Bali to relax for a month or two...so what happens? I find a $398 RT from california to Tokyo ( so much for relaxing) so I booked it...I've been researching my trip, booking everything and even spending time learning the language .. AND I want to save...do you know, if I buy a JR rail IC card for local transit will it save me $ to add the EX Shinkansen to my JR pass or Smart EX ? I'm hoping to save over $4,300 yen. let me know if you have tips for saving taking Shinkansen
I was stationed on okinawa for almost 3 years. To a point I agree yet disagree. Apps aren't always needed. Some times it's better tonjist explore. Packing lighter helps. I left heavy. Bitthays such an American thing to do. I'd recommend travel light leave light. Enjoy your time there overall.
Just got back and my two biggest regrets were: 1. Letting my friend convince me that summer in Japan would be fine (35-40 degrees C every day 😭) 2. Loved saving money using Airbnb, but never again! Luggage forwarding between the airport and hotels would have been AMAZING (especially in the heat 😅). I'd rather pay more and save the time and stress next time.
Not having a japanese translation app on your phone (smt like mazii, gg translate) when not knowing japanese can be a problem when travelling to japanese when you are unsure of your japanese skill

Hello there, I was wondering, if I can share with you the most important thing. God the Father sent His holy Son Jesus to earth, to be born of a virgin. He grew up and died on the cross for our sins. Then He was put into a tomb for 3 days, after that Abba Father raised Jesus to life.He appeared to people, and went back to heaven. We all must sincerely receive Jesus into our life to be God's child. John 1:12 says: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” Will you today genuinely by faith receive Jesus into your life for salvation?

@ ohhhh. That makes sense. Well I’m SUPER excited for your next trip!! =D. Being able to choose your travel buddies is the best!
Its not that big of a deal to have a check in, but was more cumbersome than it needed to be if i went carry on only 😅
agreed!! =D thank you for sharing your experience!! 🥰

I don't know if you have done a video on this.... but a video all about hotels and best areas to stay, what to keep in mind when booking. Thank you!
Not ideal if you are carrying all your bags or are on a strict schedule.
we appreciate your videos..so much helpful information!! we'll be there for the first time in about 3 weeks..aloha from hawaii!! 🤙🏾

BUILDYOURMOXIEKLOOK
Then once you get the QR code, just go to the major train station. Shinjuku. Tokyo. Shibuya stations etc. And look for the little scanner :). Then you just click English and then scan ur code and the tickets come out! It is way less hard to do it like that than buying it there on the kiosk :)
You can try the kiosk a few days in advance too :)
@@buildyourmoxie thanks so much for the reply! I have heard of them lots but never really checked them out much since I didn't need to book anything through them. But I also didn't realize how easy it'd be to book trains thru Klook! How neat! I will definitely look into it. Thanks so much!

You don't have to bring so many clothes as you can always go to uniqlo or GU buy clothes there. As they always have clothes for the season you are there for. And going to different regions of Japan, it's pretty cool to get different ic cards as the one for Hokkaido has a flying possum on it.

Planning to visit Fukuoka next Spring - have you been or any tips?
Ooo we are trying to get to fukuoka next spring too!! Late spring. Maybe camping!
@@ykk-1 Thanks for all the great tips, you're awesome! I am looking forward, as love Japan, and hopefully, visit the other prefectures.

"that's so sad, huh?" 😂
If you take the eSim, can you share it via mobile hotspot?
Could you recommend a hair salon in Tokyo? 😊

John 1:12 says:
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” Will you today genuinely by faith receive Jesus into your life for salvation?
