    The original Pelikan logo had 4 chicks if I recall.
    I'm really glad you managed to get your hands on a semi-transparent model and not the new one. To me, this feature is both elegant, and useful. This brilliant feature was a distinct trait of Souverän pens, allowing to check the ink level when looking closely but without breaking the striped pattern with an ink window.
    Since they made this change in their production (and increase their price at the same time), I renounced to buy new stripped Souverän.
    At any rate, that's a very pen. I don't think you will regret buying it.
    I like videos with the kid, he/she is so clever and makes sensible comments.
    But please, try to listen and let time for the other to talk, it seems you are constantly interrupting each other.

      I agree with all.of your comments. The change to a lack of transparency in the stripes is so unfortunate. I have one newer Pelikan that lacks the transparency, and it's impossible to gauge the ink level. I also second your comments regarding the narration. Hard to say to a parent without causing offense, but honestly, it's hard to listen to all the interrupting and talking over each other. I suspect that people with auditory issues might find it really triggering. I wonder if there's a way to incorporate your son while delivering videos that work for your followers. Happy belated birthday!

      Thanks. It's a great and beautiful pen, and yes we did get excited!

      You are correct. The original logo had 4, and they have been reducing it by one chick throughout the decades. I wonder why? It's a full blown consensus; no one likes the opaque barrels, but I wonder as we try to get back to normal if the supply chains will improve, Pelikan might and should revert back to the translucent stripes again. Then the opaque ones will be the rare birds.

    I got my grail pen, a Namiki Maki-e, then I got my next grail pen, a Namiki Chinkin, then I got two other grail pens. Now I'm after another. Silly me for thinking a grail pen would mean I would not select yet another grail pen, then another and another. Hope you have more self-control.

      Those sound like amazing pens James. The other grail pen for me would be the Waterman Carene, and then who knows!

    Congratulations on your ‘current’ grail pen 😉
    Lately I’ve begun feeling that ‘more is merrier’ instead of one grail pen, so I’ve been purchasing more lower priced pens..
    My recent birthday haul includes a Sailor Progear Slim Mini, 2 Vintage pocket pens from Sailor & Platinum, 2 Kaweco Al Sport, 2 pocket pens from Ohto..
    I’ve a mixture of happiness and guilt for this extravagant haul !

    • @PEIPenGuy

      That's a very nice selection of pens!

    I love the color. I always have. I'd like to get it in an M800 though, if it came in an M1000 it would be the best. I'm glad you got the translucent barrel, especially if it is a birthday pen. May be when things improve Pelikan will revert back to the translucent bodies again.
    If you're looking at inks, the 4001 series I find is on the drier side. The Edelstein inks whilst more expensive are much more vibrant. In case you didn't know, Pelikan started out as an ink company before they started making pens.
    Happy belated Birthday. Hope the M405 brings many years of enjoyment and wonderful memories.

    Whether a grail pen or any other goal, I definitely know what you mean about "well now what?" 😂 A weird kind of grief at the end of a journey. I feel that way about us getting a house!

      It is a strange feeling, and one I often get after a big project or event. The pen is wonderful though and I'm very happy with it.

    Congratulations on your grail pen! And belated happy birthday! I have not tried the M405. I think the blue was a good choice. I have an M600 and an M800. I prefer the softness of the nib on the M600 to the M800, but I prefer the weight and size of the M800 to the M600. I love how smoothly the piston moves on Pelikan pens. I think a video of pen kid showing us his favorite pens from your collection would be awesome! Thanks for this video!

      The M800 is such an enigma. Whilst even the steel Pelikan nibs I have, have some softness, the M800 is so stiff. It is quite puzzling.

    • @fountainpeninsanity3344

      @@ironmic9244 You are right. It doesn’t make sense that Pelikan’s smaller nibs, bigger nibs and steel nibs are all softer than the Pelikan M800 nibs. The Pelikan M800 nibs are not bad, they just aren’t interesting enough for me. I got my M800 nib ground to add interest. The M800 size is great for me unposted, but the M600 is a bit short for me unposted and it doesn’t post securely for me. Maybe other people find that the M600 posts well enough.

    • @ironmic9244
      @ironmic9244 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fountainpeninsanity3344 What did you get it ground to? I have one in medium, and I'll buy a replacement IB nib at some point. I have a broad on an M1000 that I am absolutely in love with. Too bad Pelikan stopped producing specialty nibs on a large scale. I think there is a nib exchange though. The nibs are great no doubt. I don't want or expect any flex, but Pelikan has the cushion that I can appreciate, which the M800 doesn't see to have.
      The M600 is as you pointed out to small, more just too thin, and I don't really like to post anyways. The M800 I thought was perfect, until I tried the M1000. And that M1000 nib is something else.

    • @fountainpeninsanity3344
      @fountainpeninsanity3344 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ironmic9244 I have a medium nib ground to an architect on my M800, and it is nice, but I still prefer the nib on my M600, which is their standard medium nib, but it absolutely writes broad or double broad. I would love to try an M1000 because of the nib and because large pens are easier for me to grip.
