Kyo No Oto No.5 Aonibi Fountain Pen Ink
This year was my first (TBF, I only found my FP addiction this year lol). Auckland, New Zealand. I was not expecting to get "loot" at all - I just went to try out pens I otherwise wouldn't be able to afford, try ones on my wishlist (try before I buy) and share some of my pens. I was nervous because the only Pelikan FP I own is a Twist lol. But no one else there had seen one so was kinda cool to be able to share even a cheapie Pelikan. I had a really good time, and my wishlist has changed because of it. The Golden Lapis will be the first shimmer ink I've ever had and I'm looking forward to inking up a pen with it!
for the best results I highly recommend a Noodlers Konrad with a Fountain pen revolution Ultra Flex Nib that pen never disappoints and when gently gossled it gives the most beautiful shimmer :)
I’ll probably be using a pelican There was an m200 lapis gold group buy in a Facebook fountain pen group that I participated in and I got a broad one so I will probably match them
I ended up getting Covid on Thursday evening so I couldn’t go. 😞 If you like the base colour, you could not shake it and fill from above the shimmer. Just leave it at the bottom!
I've only tried the Golden Lapis ink in one pen so far. It clogged the pen immediately. I know others have had better luck, so I'll try it again in another pen. Overall, I'd rather not use shimmer inks because they are a hassle and, as you say, the shimmer is hardly necessary. I suppose the shimmer could be lovely for fancy calligraphy.
Marina Bay Sands in Singapore
I wasn’t expecting to like Golden Lapis because I don’t like most bright blue inks, but I am enjoying using it.
I went to my first Pelikan Hub last Friday in Boston! It was so much fun talking to other pen enthusiasts and trying out each other’s pens! I had wanted to do something like that for a long time.
I love Noodler's and Nathan Tardif. I think what his so called called friends the Goulet's did to him is disgusting. I stand with Nathan and will do anything I can for him. I own well over 100 inks and over 30 pens. I will support him as long as I can!
I used both of these exact pens when I was a kid. Great pens, actually, and tough enough to put up with the abuse that kids often put these things through. The sleeve was designed to take up the slack inside the pen when 2 ink cartridges were installed. It kept the spare from rattling around inside the pen. Also, when the pen ran out of ink, all one had to do was to flip the assembly and screw the pen back together--you didn't have to push the cartridge into the pen to pierce the cartridge. Simply screwing the pen back together would apply enough pressure to release the little bead in the cartridge. I'm assuming to lessen the chance of getting ink on your fingers (wasn't really a problem).
Yours is an interesting analysis and review of the ink. I think the Mont Blanc heritage or other special inks might mostly be wet inks. I have but one, the Paris Memorial 1924 Olympic red ink. Lush is the word that comes to mind in association with that ink. Wet. Little shadowing, which I prefer. Yes, I think I might be significantly in the minority with that take. But again, nice job.

Bookmark is the best!
Just got a black one today!
Any way that a black wing pencil would fit in this guy? It’s hexagonal so I wasn’t sure…..
whenever i visit my grandparents in pei i always get a fountain pen! i love this one but i will say its annoying that it dosnt take universal ink cartridges for that reason i like my pilot metro more
Can I eyedropper this pen?
the bottom right 'prado brillante'. which language is supposed to be? because if it's spanish, there is a typo in 'prado', it should be 'pardo'. Otherwise it means 'gleaming meadow'.
My vintage Pilot Elie is smaller than contemporary E95s pen and has a smaller 18k medium nib. It is my favorite pocket pen. Thanks for video.
I picked up a quattro after your pen case video and I'm loving it. I throw a few of my less pricy pens in it and bring them to work with me. I have two kaweco students, a pilot kakuno, and a Lamy safari in it. I keep one inked with black, brown, red, and a fun color.
It’s a great case. Thanks for the code.
Thanks for featuring the Quattro, Stephen! And feel better soon 🥰
Estie offers an 18K nib, but it costs extra. Its "gold" nibs are gold-colored stainless steel. I own both vintage and modern Esterbrook pens. It is a good brand. The barrel coloration on this pen is variegated.
Have a Cross Townsend gunmetal M And a Cross Century 2000(limited edition hybrid of Townsend and century: same size as Townsend but clip and cap of Century) Both steel nibs These two are workhorse edc.I love them . These are very reliable pens
What price you paid for this in eBay?
❤
Soft Cover lays flatter. Have them in A5 and B5 for sketching with fountain pens and dilute ink washes with Pentel Pocket Brushes. Rising Sun - R&K sketchINK Black-WP for cartooning, Pacific Green - Birmingham Ink Co Tailing Pond for anatomical studies, and Stone Blue - Diamine Prussian Blue for architecture.
I was browsing around in an antique store today and came across this exact pen but with a black barrel. I took it home and it has been soaking for a couple hours most of the ink was in the cap. 🤔. I’m hoping that’s not a sign of leaking. My pen has the same converter as yours. I hate the squeeze converter (changed my Pilot Metro to a Con-40). I was able to remove the converter. What size cartridge does it take? I tried standard and it didn’t work. Thank you for sharing! God bless you.
Thank you. Very interesting. I recently purchased a silver Auretta. Did you ever find a date for it?
Looks like a nice case. I'll have to try one out. As you say: One cannot have too many pen cases.
The first one is by Midori (Japan), the makers of MD Notebooks and Travellers products.
Just tried this ink using a new Opus 88 mini fountain pen with a stub nib (1.4) and love the blend of colors and sheen. It would be great to use this for holiday cards. 8:11
Nice video, many thanks. I have been wondering about going up a format myself, as I find the A5 noteboooks can get a little cramped. Your comments seem to support the idea that bigger format allows one to stretch out a little (maybe write faster, or at a more natural speed of thought). Also, I'm a dedicated fountain pen user, so I was interested to see the dry time is quite long. One thing I did find a bit perplexing, though, is where you say (near the beginning) that the book lies down nice and flat - while we can clearly see it definitely does not. Specifically, the top left of the RH page (gutter) is curved, so your pen nib skates over the first couple of words - or you have to crease down the gutter. It's possible that this is less of a problem with the A4 version, but it's certainly difficult 'on the go' with the smaller A5. It's a non-problem when you have a big desk, loads of time and personal space; but can be quite awkward (esp with a fountain pen) on your knee, or on a train/plane/airport or even (frequent writing spot) in bed. I'm suspecting that the bigger notebook is in fact a better bet. what do you think?
Much lighter than I imagined given the name of burgundy. Thank you for the review.
From the video alone, without seeing them side by side, it reminds me of Pilot iroshizuku kon-peki.
For me my grail is my vanishing point. I personally want one FP in 18k and 2 in 14k and then just a bunch of steel nibs. I have a vintage Parker 51 in 14k and wanna get my safari or lx upgraded with a gold nib
Do a video on cross Bailey light fountain pen it’s a nice fountain pen
Love the video! What size of nib is this Sheaffer?
I open boxes like you but with a letter opener. Interesting ink and beautiful pen. Thanks!

Your handwriting looks eerily similar to mine
Can you do a giveaway of lamy safari?? Because i really wanted and need one 🥺
My mom bought one kislux and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
Hey bro, 2 years later, how is it going? With the new nib i mean. That pen is beautiful
Yeah, sweetie, I don't think much of the ink is lost, per se. It is all still in the carpet and on the floor. 😂
Thank you for sharing! In case you care, the « c » at the end of Montblanc is silent, pronounce it like there was no « c » P.S. Worst mishaps were twice with yhe same ink: Noodler’s Heart of Darkness and let me tell you this one stains! First was when I opened the gigantic bottle, it was filled to the brink and I topple it.. while I was at work! I was quick enough to pick it so I didn’t lose that much ink but my desk and most of what was on it got stained. Second time, I was preparing an ink sample and as the eye dropper exited the mouth of the bottle I started shaking wildly and splattered most of my desk at home and what was surrounding it…
Great video
Diamine Pick Me Up was an invent ink, later released in a big bottle Iroshizuku ink bottle caps are fragile. I've had several crack in transit.
Sorry to hear about your ink. One time I was filling a pen from a brand new sample vial, and tipped it too far at an angle (I wasn’t paying attention) and dumped most of the sample onto a paper towel. 🤦🏼♀️ Oy. But that’s not too bad, just annoying. I can laugh about how dumb that was now.
I was all set to share my worst tale of woe, which happened in rhe last week, when you said "no damage to pens." Honestly, nothing compares to that. But I did once spill a bottle of ink that also stained the open side of a nice Hobonichi notebook, ruining the entire notebook. Pilot Iroshizuzu ink bottle caps are notorious for being flimsy, so I'm not surprised it cracked.
