Thanks for the tips!
I didn’t know you could get 2 Marriott cards, I got your setup before no Boundless yet, and also I canceled my biz Hilton one :) good information thank you
You can get even more between Amex and Chase.
Great strategies! Thanks for the info + video!
Me and the family prefer Hilton. Just snagged up the Hilton business card for the elevated SUB. Working my way up the ladder to the Aspire 👍🏼
I love points in all shapes and sizes, but I have a soft spot for Hilton. Way to work the Hilton ladder!
Hilton trifecta + IHG setup. I wasn't happy with the Hilton Business refresh at first, viewing $30K or $60K spend on the Aspire as more lucrative. Looking at the business version on its own for what it actually is, 2.5% back is not bad. We stay at Hilton 80% of the time, so we could always use more points at a lucrative earning rate.
I took the low end but if you stretch it .8 cents per point, then 5X drops to 4X which is why I love this catch-all multiplier. However, the free night is very valuable for those folks who routinely put $15K in spend on the card.
Nice video. I like the discussion and strategies. Personally I only have the IHG Premier card as far as hotel cards. I’m thinking about adding the Hilton Aspire soon and maybe other cards that give a free night certificate. I find them easy to use and get value from.
Agreed. I prefer the ones which give me a free stay without a spend requirement.
You will credited both for the $50 gift card and the $1.95 shipping fee. There are no $60 gift cards.
There is no expiration on gift cards, so I will use them once every year or so.
I'm planning to convert all my Hilton cards to Aspire.
Now there is a true Hilton loyalist.
@@RSquared-travel-rewards Yes, free night without spending and negative $50 AF.
I prefer the Amex Hilton Business refresh. Now we can buy a $50 Hilton gift card every quarter and get reimbursed, resulting in effectively being paid $5 every year to keep the card. Previously, there was no direct way to recoup the annual fee.
It works for me this year because I have so many other plans so it would have been a challenge to hit the $15K spend on the card. The free night cert is powerful so I will likely pick up a 2nd Aspire next year.
Does Capital One let you have 3 personal cards? I'm trying to do a free hybrid travel/cashback setup with SavorOne and VentureOne, but I don't know if after I wait 6 months after my second card, CP1 will let me get the Quicksilver
I'm thinking that you're gonna have to join the channel for .99 cents a month for me to keep up answering so many personalized questions.
@RSquared-travel-rewards oh my gosh, I'm sorry man my bad😅
@@grogu_2003 you may certainly hold 3 CP1 cards at a time. I hold the savor 1, quick silver and the VX. I owned the QS and VX first and got the SavorOne last. I see no issues with your strategy.
Excellent Richie. Would you be getting Hilton gift cards? Any idea how to redeem gift cards? Thanks as always 👍🌍(my Hilton set up would consist of the no annual fee and biz)
There are others who report to getting them online so you should DM them directly. I use my credit to book a Hilton stay because I actually stay at Hilton's often. I always pick the cheapest rate which requires charging my card immediately then I upgrade as a result of my Aspire card.
Is it okay to close cards that you don't really use after your first one, to avoid having to worry about having to put purchases on each card, overall management, and so that you don't have so many cards just laying around?
You can never have too many card hahaha.
I always look to downgrade to a free version whenever possible vs closing a card. If the card in question or any in its downgrade path is of no use to you then canceling is what I'd likely do. However, be mindful not to do it too often with any 1 card issuer so that there isn't a history of getting a bonus then cancelling immediately.
@@RSquared-travel-rewards but if I stop using the cards and not putting any type of balance on the card, won't the issuer close the account?
@@grogu_2003 You know your situation best, however, if I wasn't interested in a card and there wasn't a downgrade/free option AND it wasn't an old card which reflect lots of history, I'd likely cancel it. What card issuers do regarding inactive cards varies. I would definitely close a card rather than let a card issuer close my card.
@@RSquared-travel-rewards for the credit cards that you don't use, do you just put a small purchase on each one for each statement cycle? Or do you just do 1 small purchase every 2-3 cycles?
@@grogu_2003 I run systems and not just charge on cards. Specific cards are included in each system. I only use cards from Citi, Chase, WF/BILT, CP1 and Amex. So I always have a reason to run a system and I don't worry about putting spend on a card for the sake of it. This is currently possible with my current job volume of cards 23. That could change in the future.
Excellent video. I am still on the fence on whether to be a Marriott loyalist or have a combination of Marriott/Hilton or another brand.
My wife just got the AMEX Platinum which gives us Marriott Gold and Hilton Gold so I’m trying to reason keeping any Marriott cards or Hilton cards.
It's not a requirement at all. You have Gold status with 2 brands and for most folks that's good enough.
In my mind, the only reasons to get hotel cards are the following:
1 - Sign up bonus which normally gets you at least 2 free nights to start
2 - An annual free night if you're going to truly travel each year
3 - Climb the status ladder to get additional perks
If you don't care where you stay and the free night doesn't matter then sticking with your Gold status is perfectly fine.
you over-exposed your face with the light :P
All feedback is welcomed on how l may get better. Thanks.
