  • This is Part 2 of a series of lectures given by Swami Sarvapriyananda on the text, Vakya Vritti.
    Vakya Vritti is a text of fifty-two Sanskrit slokas attributed to Adi Shankara and is in the form of a dialogue between an eager student and an enlightened teacher. The text concerns itself with the detailed and elaborate explanation of two Mahāvākyas - aham brahmāsmi and tat tvam asi which are intended to give a direct perception of Brahman.

    ABOUT VEDANTA
    Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
    ABOUT US
    Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

    Swami Ji. Great Honour. Thanking You Respected Sir. I am very glad and happy. Your Explanation is so profound. Talks are very deep and difficult since it is nameless formless. Once again Sarvapriyanand Ji Maharaj your explanation and talks are absolutely down to as simplicity as possible though the topic is not so easy.
    I personally feel very happy and confident seeing your TH-cam talk's great Sir because I strongly believe in form of God like Krishna. Saraswati Ji etc. Divine Dieties. And your profound explanation on great formless and nameless and without any attributes God makes me feel comfortable as I am a bit less worried that the Great God exists beyond death, etc. Salutations to Great Bramhan, Atman. And Great Saint's Ramana. Ramakrishna. Mother Sharda. Shri Swami Vivekananda. And the Great Acharya Shankara without which vedantic understanding wouldn't have been possible.
    Great Thanks. Swami Ji. Maharaj. Om Sweet Om Shanti. Peace. Divinity. Happiness. 🙏🕉️🏵️😊🌼🌺🌹🕉️🙏

    Life is a mix of duality and nonduality. Birth is a dual phenomena, born of desire. Death is a nondual phenomena, nobody desires it but it is inevitable. Then again desire takes us away from nonduality and we are born again. This cycle continues until we settle down into nonduality and aren't born again.
    However there is one school of thought especially that of Ramakrishna which says that even after nondual merging one may return to duality to help others along the spiritual path out of compassion. Logically it doesn't make sense because nonduality has no choice, choice exists only on duality. But such is the paradox of life, nonduality is not the only reality, there is duality and nonduality, and they have a dual as well a nondual relation.
    So one can be dualistic and have a dualistic relationship with nonduality, one can be dualistic and have a nondual relationship with nonduality, one can be nondualistic and have a dual relationship with duality, and one can be nondualistic and have a nondual relationship with duality. There is complete freedom to move between these four, but it just so happens that the last two are the most blissful so a wise person would choose one among the last two depending on the will of God and need of the hour.

    The identification with reflected consciousness is relatively easy. Upon introspection, the mumukshu realizes that he is aware and becomes aware of being aware.
    But 😅 To what is the mumukshu appearing? In what is the mumukshu appearing? Isn't the mumukshu just like a wave in Ocean of consciousness? Who Witnesses the mumukshu having these weird thoughts?
    From this point how does the locus of I shift to Chid or the witness consciousness?

    Swamiji, while I understand all of this theoretically, I still have a "doubt" / query: if I am not my body and still I "identify" with it, I cannot move from one body to another body, from one object to another object. There is a definite and clear link between ME and this body and this experience and this time. I embody this body.
    So, WHY is this happening?

    • @arjunrathore8950
      @arjunrathore8950 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Best way to understand is looking at your own dream. In your dream you take up another dream body mind complex through its dream senses you experience dream others and dream universe. The awareness channeled through that dream body and senses gives the illusion of embodiment. If someone hits you in the dream you will get dream pain. In the dream also you will not be able to walk through a wall because it is solid. On waking up you find the subject object difference was an illusion. It was all ur mind. Same in waking state also. You know the waking universe through awareness channeled through this body mind complex giving the illusion of embodiment. Here also subject and object are one only.

      Thank you to all of you who kindly reply, BUT... there is always a but: ... we all have the save illusion. We all see each other as bodies and minds. SO there must be a reason for this.
      WHY? Why do we have to see us as this?

    • @arjunrathore8950
      @arjunrathore8950 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@mtomat007 this ignorance is beginning less. Let's say if I ask you do you know zulu languange. If you say "no" then I will ask, since when? You get the point. Now the point is do we like all this? If we like this game then it will go on. So it is totally dependent on us. We want experience, the universe will surely give us. It is obvious that this body is not us because it was not there 100 years back and will not be 100 years in future. What we are should be same all the time. So what is the point of taking up different bodies and having different experiences. Totally pointless. Only when through analysis and discrimination one comes to the realization of futility of this game that one says ok enough of this. I want out. Then life begins. As per vedanta the only purpose of human life is to know who you really are.

    • @Glower22x4
      @Glower22x4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mtomat007 we use the mind and body as a tool for self and God realisation and individualisation. I too tend to have my mind run in endless thoughts why I appear as myself in the dream, or why my sister or brother appeared as themselves, and there is matter too. Maybe that way we can recognise each other and recognise the divine teacher. We as a unit of Life, Consciousness, beingness, we were hewn from the Creative Spirit of God and sent down here in Mind and Matter in order to be trained, taught, gather experiences about our true nature and return home where we came from. Like you stated that we have embodied physical body and mind, when we are done with our running in circles about our true identity, we just drop the mind and body and go to the home of Soul.

    why does it seem so foreign to what I am. the closer I get the more it seems that I am not the Self then of course you have everyone saying i'm that regardless how i behave .listening and surely we don't want a limited Self but I certainly don't WANT A infinite Self who is not only capable of extreme evil but permits it so whats with the infinite paths talk ? it seems like only one path is the direct right understanding and that's Buddhism perhaps some instances Hindu the spiritual path of Self inquiry all else is ego and maya allows and brings suffering.

      Stop the search. Whatever you will find will not be you, so whatever you find reject it. All the scriptures can do is point towards the reality because the reality is beyond mind and beyond words. Just have the clarity of the pointer that the reality just is, just illumines and it is you and not anything you can conceive of. Any qualification of that reality actually disqualifies it. Neti Neti is the best way, do not try to look at in affirmation as it is non affirming.

      See if this practice helps. Just "be", do not "become". You do not have to sit in one place and practice this, do it all the time. Do not indulge in a thought. As soon as you indulge you become, ego gets engaged. That does not mean you stop your work, all work related thoughts you have to indulge but anything else let it pass. Mantra can be an aid and it is ok to indulge in vedantic thoughts.

      Im very well knowledge about self Satsang but even if fulfillment of knowledge of Brahman there is still things of this world as a physical avatar I want to have meditation on what I am is not getting me those things fact is that if world knows me to be Krishna it should know all this entire experience existence is me or mine but they all have an attitude of I don't care what you believe your Self to be your claim is ridiculous as if they don't believe me like Im untrustworthy purposely deceiving myself and them Deception is their game not mine @@arjunrathore8950

    but the "great dreamer doesn't break the dream he just shifts us back to the waking portion of the dream which is often cases the cause of the nightmares we have he she whatever the case will not let us out or only seams to favor certain people gives them everything they can want in a lifetime while the rest go without and must endure till the body mind gives out i don't see how that is considered love and compassionate or bliss surely ifcIam this great dreamer i should be able to take luxury in all I have created.

    If Sadguna brahman is brahman with a form and if we are consciousness then we are also sadguna brahman. But Krishna, whom is sadguna brahman and we normal human being cannot be equated? It is difficult to believe we are great Krishna..

      If you are Saguna Brahman, Brahman + Form then the difference between you and Krishna is the form
